Now my girls have gone back to their mums, the adult games are coming out today. In no particular order.
The Outer Wild's - I attempted to start with my daughter to spark her interest in space but realised pretty quickly, there are some horror elements, so I turned that off. Monster Hunter Rise - I’m getting into the spicy side of hunts with Anomalies investigations now getting into the lvl 100 stage. Aaaaaand…. Super Mario Wonder (first play through, going to try and casually speed run it).
If family come over today/tomorrow. Exploding Kittens: Recipes for disaster.
I have been playing this with my 6yr old daughter over the Christmas period. It’s been great so far, especially for her first turn based game. Been teaching her about element weaknesses which she has picked up naturally. It’s also co op, so it’s been nice letting her make choices in battles and choices in how she responds to NPCs. Should serve as a good starter ‘mon-collecting’ game as I’m overly cautious in paying for any of the recent pokemon games because the snob in me won’t allow my daughter to play such shoddy made games.
In response to the article, the music is banging, I also appreciate the pop culture references throughout. Great read.
Literally thousand upon thousands of hours of gameplay in this list.
Risk of Rains Returns is worth a shout out. Also the paid DLC for ROR2 is out now as well.
30xx is a recent top tier release. Best Megaman-like
Warm Snow has an excellent combat system and worth a look even if it is a bit barebones. The devs really want you to become a killing machine and I’m all for it.
I’m not touching World of Horror until it’s patched but it’s gunna be a good’n.
Top 3 personal faves are:
The Binding of Isaac/ Repentance
Dead Cells
Slay the Spire
Honourable mentions:
Monster Train
Griftlands
Invisible Inc
Dungeon of the Endless
Darkwood
As a heads up for all console gamers. There is a save issue where progress, achievements and all achievement related unlockables are being wiped. Dev is aware and patch in works. Other than that, love the game. Chill, creepy and strategic.
@TotalHenshin
Thanks friend, I’m using it as a good opportunity to catch up on my backlog while I job hunt.
Pikmin 4 is stunning, it’s actually up there joint with TOTK as my Ninty GOTYs. I’ve completed the main mission and in the end game content now. Olimar’s side story is much more in line with the original game so it’s a lovely little throw back. You can tell a lot of love went into it and wasn’t just a quick quota to fill. 10/10
Happy gaming bud
Due to my recent unemployment, I won’t be partaking fully in the Mario festivities until Christmas when I get it for my daughter. But my friend has a copy and we’re going to give it a blast today on multiplayer with the kids. I did have enough to scrap by for Warm Snow and I’m sure to get my monies worth. Great game so far if you like games like Hades. Outside of that, we’re in the final stretch on Pikmin 4 and I’m also having some fun (albeit anxiety) in the restaurant on Cook Serve Delicious! Happy weekend gaming all
F-Zero 99 has led me back to F-Zero X on N64 switch online. The last time I played it was back in 98’, I had a Jap knockoff copy and had to work out the Japanese menu. It is so much fun! Really shows the unique experiences Nintendo were trying to create in the jump from the 16Bit to the 64Bit era. And it is 60fps! Outside of that, I’ve been playing Dungeon of the Endless and I highly recommend to any fans of strategy/survival games. 30XX, mega man fans whatchu waiting for. Pikmin 4 with my daughter. What an absolute stunner of a game.
Just finished this. It’s a solid 7. It’s got great atmosphere, aesthetics & initial world building. The smooth and fluid controls instantly stand out. There are some great but short lived set pieces. The Gunbrella mechanics are great but criminally underused. You’d imagine some superb run & gun platforming design with a game like this but it’s not there. Story is dire and I’m sure they could have mustered something better than this. Every boss is easily chessible and they’re not that inventive. There are not many enemy types. This all sounds like I really disliked the game but it’s still worth a play through.
It’s a great game, I’ve been mindlessly playing it. Great for putting some tunes on in the background and going around mining resources for base, suit, ship & exocraft resources. Picked it up half price in last sale so money well spent
Metroid Prime Remastered & Alien Isolation for me. I can’t believe how good they made MPR look and AI is up there with the home consoles versions and then some
Mr. Run and Jump is one of the best hardcore 2d platformers I’ve played this year. It’s well worth a look for platforming fans. The game repeatedly kicks your ass from level 1 and I’m all for it
I was so close to purchasing the new Illusions game but was instantly put off by the metroidvania tag, I’ve burnt out on metroidvanias lately and still have oodles to finish. I think Mickey & Minnie will find it’s way into my daughters Christmas stocking this year.
So I settled for Mr Run and Jump for some hardcore platforming goodness and I have 0 regrets. I’m only four levels in and the difficulty is already brutal. Lots of fun.
160 hours in, I’ve just completed third temple. I’ve been taking my time with the game, doing side quests, finding koroks, shrines, exploring the underground, searching for outfits, mining zonaite, doing the colosseums. A good 20 hours of playtime is my daughter tending to her horses at the stables and feeding the doggies alone. I’m in it for the long run. Best game since Elden Ring. Everytime I play, i say to myself at least once ‘you can’t do that in any other game’
One thing I’ve learnt from working in data myself. Is that almost all companies will bend and manipulate data so it fits whatever narrative they want to portray even if the data says otherwise.
TOTK! Yesterday I had the best play session. It involved making jet skis and boats and all the drama in between and it was glorious. It exemplified how the ultra hand ability changes the game, your strategy, your goal. Just like BOTW did, TOTK has boosted my love for gaming yet again. In cooling off periods from Zelden Ring, I’m trying to polish off the third modifier crown in Wildfrost, which is no easy feat! Happy gaming everyone!
Was made for Mario fans, and did the job well. If anything, it’s made me want to replay every Mario game in my library including the Donkey Kong games. My 5 year old daughter wants to do the same (obvs for the first time) 😁
I’ve yet to properly tuck into Have a Nice Death, the art style is stunning. Having lots of fun with Dredge, it’s one of those calming chill games that turns into an absolute nightmare pretty quickly. The atmosphere building is superb. Dead Cells Return to Castlevania is also another highlight for me and it’s given me the Inspiration to finally tackle the 3rd Boss Cell.

Re: Feature: The Best Hidden Gems And Underrated Switch Games Of 2023
For deck building enthusiasts, Fights in Tight Spaces, Wild Frost & Cobalt Core are all great gems slipped somewhat under the radar.
Also Gravity Circuit, and also for fans of that, 30xx

Re: Poll: Have You Come First In F-Zero 99 Yet?
I’ve come 1st once and 2nd in a Grand Prix Overall.
The amount of fun I’ve had playing this is unreal and it’s easily up there in my 2023 top 5.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 16th)
I’ve been mainly playing Gunbrella, 30XX, Vampire Survivors & (as of this morning) Summum Aeterna which I forgot was releasing.
I also want to get back into my new Baldurs Gate campaign which I started this week on Switch.
F-Zero 99 in the evenings 😁
I’m having way more fun gaming than expected this month!
Happy weekend gaming everyone.

Re: Review: 30XX - Excellent Mega Man X-Style Run 'N' Gunning, With A Roguelite Twist
Cracking game, no joke about the difficulty spikes although it can usually be down to your build I’ve found. Don’t pick up everything!

Re: More Quake II Rumours Point To An Imminent Switch Release
I only ever played Quake 2 on the N64 and I have fond memories of it. A remaster would be lovely.

Yes we’ve been playing Zelda

Re: Zelda: TOTK Playtimes Start To Appear, And Some People Haven't Been Getting A Lot Of Sleep
I haven’t checked mine yet but I reckon easily 70/80 hrs. I think you could spend hundreds of hrs exploring the underground alone. The game is huge.
Next news story ‘Players spend 95% of their time in Hyrule creating weaponised Dongs’.
