Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 16th)

Nintendo Switch:
Phantom Breaker: Omnia – finally got a good ending in Cocoa's story in Story Mode.
Guilty Gear XX ΛCore Plus R – got Path 2 ending in May's story and both Path 1 and 2 endings in A.B.A's story in Story Mode.
Android:
Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon – played for a 1 hour, probably. Good roguelite game, but my smartphone is too weak to run this game in good performance, sadly. Deleted it later.
Kentucky Route Zero – Act I. The game is interesting, but kinda annoying. The world map is annoyingly big for me.

I beat Starfield yesterday on the Xbox Series X after playing it for almost 70 hours.
Currently continuing my playthrough of Ace Attorney: Justice for All I started on my Switch before Starfield.

Planning on starting Firewatch later and finally starting either God of War: Ghost of Sparta or Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time on Ps3.
Might also start Baten Kaitos 1+2 HD on the switch.

Sea of stars and splatoon 3…..but mostly a lot of sea of stars!

On PS5 i will be playing Monochrome Mobius and Atlas Fallen, both good games so far. I will also put a couple hours into Sea of Stars as I plan to chip away at that game slowly.

On the Switch I want to get Dragon Quest Treasures done before the end of tbe month but there's a lot to do in this game. I will also be continuing with the Pokémon Violet DLC.

I finally beat Sea of Stars and it was absolutely wonderful. I’ve been raving about the game for the past couple of weeks, so I’ll spare you all another rant about the game. All I’ll say is: Go play it.

I’m now playing Baulder’s Gate 3 on the PS5. I’m not sure how long I’ll dabble with the game, but so far it’s quite a masterclass in writing, world-building, and RPG mechanics. I’m also not entirely overwhelmed which is even more astonishing. I thought the onboarding would be a difficult process, but it hasn’t been bad. That said, I still don’t understand a lot of its systems, but I’ve yet to feel punished by them.

So far, I’m not sure what I’m even doing narrative wise. I know the arc, but I’m just walking around, chatting with people, intervening various situations that lead to fun side quests, and most importantly, letting things play out with my choices which is something I never do often. I like being the good guy, and I’ll typically reload a save just to make the right decision — but the writing is so good that I’m fine with how things play out. In fact, I’ve had one party member kill another already, and I’m not even mad about it. I will say, I recommend camping as much as possible. You’ll get some of the best character interactions and overall development that I’ve ever seen in a video game, particularly in this magnitude.

I do have one complaint though — the density. You never seem to have a moment to breathe. You’re always in conversations, or doing some kind of quest, and then another before finishing the prior one and the trend continues. Everything then becomes jumbled and [I] you feel like you’re not having significant meaning behind what you’re doing because you forget about the situation you were last in. I do not like that.

With that said, I did decide to start a completely new play-through yesterday despite having 20+ hrs logged, and halfway through Act 1. I had the house to myself and I was able to truly focus on the characters and environmental storytelling without being interrupted by my wife and child (we have been sick with Covid). I took things at my own pace. Things are now clicking together and I can’t get enough of the game.

BG3 is a new benchmark for CRPGs, or any RPG for that matter. The writing is exquisite, and your choices have genuine consequences that pay off — good or bad. And the level of consistent polish is mind blowing considering the scope of this game. This is quite easily one of the best CRPGs of all time, and may just earn the status as GOAT and GOTY.

I'm going though my usual post splattfest gaming slump where I played too much video games last weekend so now I don't feel like playing anything!
I had Starfield and Sea of Stars on half but I think I've lost motivation with them.
TOTK is still on going, in no rush to finish it.
I also finally got Phantom Hourglass for the DS, I've been hunting that game down for months and I finally got a copy (for free of a friend too which is great!). I will definitely be giving that a whirl once I've gotten over my burnout, same with F-Zero 99, looks very fun.

Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga (NSO).
Really enjoying it and have to clear the slate for all the future MARIO RPG goodness we have coming late this year and next!

Going to try to clear some of my backlog before Wonder drops, so it’s Ape Out today (with generous sprinkles of the wildly fun F-Zero 99!).

Finished XC:DE yesterday and I don’t feel like doing postgame, at least now. So I started Diablo II, which I bought on sale in bundle with DIII. I loved it on PC 20+ years ago, but now it hasn’t hooked me yet. So either giving this some more time, or starting the next scheduled game: AI nirvana initiative.

Going to play a few rounds of Super Smash Brothers Ultimate with my friend and besides that just going to enjoy the sunshine in this beautiful tail-end of summer 😎

Just got done with Bloodborne over the past couple days, checking out NG+ for a little bit and then it's Sea of Stars for me.

More Diablo III for me. Somewhere in Act II, have met the highly amusing Covetous Chen, and my wizard just melts everything with his disintegration beam. The story is pure background, but the constant climb of numbers and the power trip it takes you on are great.

I'll probably be playing some smaller games this weekend, since I'll be so busy. I may give Bubble Bobble 4 Friends and/or Burgertime Party a try, and probably a little bit of N++ on the side. I've beaten most of my major releases. I only have Shin Megami Tensei V left on the horizon, but I'm going to wait a little bit longer on it, so I have a longer game to play during the last few months of the year.

A bit of FZero 99 which I’m really enjoying but know won’t hold my attention for too long (which is fine).

Also plodding on with Octopath Traveller. I’m down to last 4 character’s chapter fours so really want to complete the game, but it’s hard not to abandon it and start something else. Don’t get me wrong I’ve enjoyed the game, it just gets a bit samey after this long.

I will be playing a fair bit of F-Zero 99. I love it.
I really hope they add an option for 25 player online racing soon. And leaderboards for time trials would be nice too.

I was planning to play Baten Kaitos 1 + 2 Remaster this weekend on Switch but my copy has been delayed and unless it magically gets delivered in the post even though payment hasn't been taken from it along with a dispatched notification from base.com, won't be happening. So I guess I will spend more time playing the demo for Dragon Quest Monsters which I'm very mad about Square Enix quietly dropping without any fanfare, they really don't want the series to do well here. And I could probably finish Bayonetta Origins, which I started playing slowly in the week to keep me busy while waiting for Baten Kaitos. It's very different from the traditional Bayonetta experience, and won't appeal to everyone but it's still a lot of fun. As you can tell a lot of gaming on the Switch right now, PS5 is in waiting mode until Spider-Man 2, LAD Gaiden and P5 Tactica drop.

Sea of Stars! And it's ace! Also, rather more shamefully, Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp! That 'game' is just the dirt worst, but I am still deep in the thrall of it's hideous fanservicing tentacles.

I am a terrible person and I deserve terrible things.

Probably more MK8 Deluxe but maybe also some F-Zero 99 and another attempt at making progress in the Teal Mask DLC without Scarlet crashing. Hopefully with the existence of F-Zero 99, fewer people pick Mute City and Big Blue in MK8 Deluxe when there's wave 5 tracks selectable.

I'm working today, so gaming time will be limited. I plan to chip away at a little more Forza 3 and also try out F Zero 99.

Tomorrow I will hopefully find time to go back to Starfield, which I haven't had chance to touch since last weekend.

Dug up the old N64. It's still working after all these years. The last time I booted it up, it shut itself off after a couple of minutes. (Looks like that was due to that particular cartridge.) Fingers crossed it continues to work.

I'm having a blast playing Blast Corps. My 25-year-old save game was still present. (But I reset it. Hold Start while powering up.)

Also played some 1080, which I still think is better than 1080 Avalanche. Will probably play Perfect Dark next.

That era of AAA gaming had a playfulness that seems to have been lost. Games are becoming too expensive to make, so devs and publishers are taking less risk it seems.

Switch: Dragon Quest XI, 8hrs in and this is my favorite 3d JRPG.

Ps4: Spiderman

Xbox: Just finished replaying through the first 3 Gears games. Come to the conclusion I enjoyed those more than the first 3 Halo games. Halo Reach is peak Halo for me and wished they would have done more spin-off titles.

Not sure what my plans are today, don't really want to start anything because my partner is going to be off work for two weeks starting tommorow, so I will be roping him into co-op shenanigans before I lose him to FIFA (or whatever it's called these days) with Unravel 2, Vampire Survivors, Nobody saves the world and god knows what else.

Maybe I'll just continue my playthroughs of Pokémon stone dragon and Sword and sheild GBA. If I'm feeling frisky, I might start well, a fresh start because I really loved the other farming/vaccuming game; No place like home and they look similar. When I do let him free my next big game will be Faefarm which I'll start midweek no doubt.

Edit: Baten Kaitos should also be in the post today, will be hard not to boot that up, but I'll resist. I need to play more of the Pokémon DLC when I can be bothered, after such a gap I forgot how annoying encountering small Pokémon underneath you was, and as I've been playing roms at 4X speed it feels extra slow to me now. Also need to swallow my salt and get back to sea of stars because I got rekt at the start of it and it put me off of it completely, but I know there's a good game in there. TOTK will be played this week as well after a break of so many months, I love the game, I wanted to make it last.

Out of town! I have my Switch lite and my 3DS, I am playing Master Detective archives: Rain code (just started, loving Shinigami so far) SMT IV apocalypse and the ever present TOTK (broke the fire temple abusing the ascend ability, because there is no way I would have figured how to play those mine carts right)

Starfield for me.

Probably not much, as I've come to the conclusion, that with not much on the horizon in terms of new game releases (at least for me personally), I have to ration what I've got.

So not much gaming until november 1st (which happens to be my birthday - but that's a coincidence), when the dark half of the year really commences - I will try out the free Wesker and Ada Mercenaries update for RE4 remake this thursday though.

But come november and I will play Fallout: New Vegas (because I never really got into that one before) and Elex. Those will probably last me until just before Christmas and then I will pull out the really big guns, like The Evil Within, Alan Wake, RE Village (etc.) to get me through the Christmas and New Year period.

I started up Final Fantasy 6 and it already has its claws in me. I’ve been craving an old school RPG and decided I was going to play it the original way and not turn encounters off. I just got to the opera scene.

Also I’m still trying to get in one day in Pikmin 3 with my wife each night.

And I want to continue Twilight Princess HD but it can be hard to play anything not on the switch. I’m on the go a lot and the switch is just so convenient

Continuing with Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp. This game is much more fun, than I expected. Part one is beaten already.

I haven't played anything since I finished The Messenger last weekend. I'll probably start Fire Emblem: Three Houses tomorrow. It's only my second Fire Emblem game and it'll be the first I (hopefully) complete. The first was Awakening, which I gave up on as I struggled with the small text on my 3DS screen.

I've already finished with the TMHT:SR DLC.
I'm not trolling but I've been playing Battlefield 1943 on X-Box One very much most recently as the servers will be shut off in December. It's one of my favourite Games on the PS3 (which I sold in August 2017).
Either I've lost my touch or the XB control Pad isn't very good...
Switch-wise, I've briefly stopped playing Pokemon Sword. I'll be getting the Violet DLC soon and don't wanna Pokemon myself out.
I've also decided to look at my games collection and sell off what I'm no longer playing as they are just sitting on a shelf.

Yet more Tears...shrine hunting and lightrooting continues, and in between if any caves show up, that's a bonus. Will this game ever end???

Decided to give Double Dragon Gaiden a go and I quite like the game. Some graphical elements and the specific gangs remind me of The Combatribes and Renegade. Feels like the frame rate drops a bit on Switch, but will be trying another play through to see further into the other stages.

I'm playing raindrop sprinters and absolutely loving it!

I think I’ll play some Mario Kart 8 and some Sega Genesis games.

I need to catch up on my Mario RPGs. That being said, I'm doing some multiplayer this weekend with Smash and trying out the new F-Zero 99

Star Ocean 2 demo for me. Finally getting to play this game, and in this utterly beautiful remake, is a gift. I remember seeing a promotional video in a Play Magazine demo CD decades ago, loving it, and then learning it wouldn't make it to PAL regions. Justice, finally

I don't have any "main" game at the moment, keeping my gaming schedule open for next month possibly the Batman Arkham trilogy, and for sure SMB Wonder.
I'm really addicted to the Hatsune Miku rythm game, really having a great time with it.
Also doing some Tetris 99, MK8D, and Lyrica.
Once I've made enough progress, I'm looking forward to playing some Arms that I haven't played since the Party Crash stopped, and the DLC of the ninja mutants.

This weekend, I will continue to explore Kitakami, in Pokemon Scarlet. In a bit, I'll probably fire up Nuclear Blaze, while I’m at it. Beyond that, I’ll play some F-Zero 99 as well, if for nothing else than to check it out.

Probably some Splatoon 3, as Well as some Tetris 99 and F-Zero 99. Won't be touching Pokemon Violet, though. Not paying more money for more bugs lol

I’ll try to dip into Vampire Survivors and take a few laps in F-Zero 99, but between weekend chores I mainly want to unwrap my copy of Super Bomberman R2 and see if I can persuade the kiddos to play co-op with me!

Also Ill be keeping an eye on any news coming out of the Tokyo Game Show this weekend. Have you heard a multi platform Macross shoot ‘em up is coming to Switch in January? Pilot your Valkyrie and save generations of kidnapped idol singers! I hope we get a look at it running on Switch at TGS.

Mostly Sea of Stars and Starfield

I was sick yesterday which was perfectly timed with the fzero 99 announcement. I’d never played fzero before but I gave it a try and now I can’t stop. my only complaint is the maps don’t seem to rotate but still really fun game.

Comparatively fewer plans this weekend, with PS4 sitting it out entirely while Switch/Deck titles fill out most of the "whim board". As usual, I expect to invest some time in one or more Xenoblade games, RF5 and Portia, SR4 and Borderlands 2, Doom 64 and Idol Manager, a range of other RPGs from Symphonia and SMT3 to Atelier Marie and Romancing SaGa, possibly other stuff like NMS, Children of Morta and/or Lego Marvel... plus some Deck spotlight frequenters like Horizon, JC2 and the Final Fantasies. Lower odds left for handhelds, but a bit of Luigi's Mansion, Endless Frontier, God Eater or Etrian Odyssey isn't quite off the table either.

Switch: Finishing up Bioshock II Remastered (already in Minerva's Den), then hopefully starting up Bayonetta. I have already beaten it on PS3, but I want to show it to my fiancée and also refresh my memory before starting up the sequels.

PC: Some semihistorical strategy games, Europa Universalis I and Civilization VI. I will probably keep playing these two for a very long time.

Android: Dungeons of Dreadrock. It's a cute and funny little puzzle game, but the swipe controls are not at all it unfortunately.

I actually managed to beat the main story quests for a realm reborn in Final Fantasy XIV. I'm going to be taking a break and then dive into the post game quests.

I have also started the pixel remaster for Final Fantasy II. So far I'm about 3 hours in and it definitely feels different from the first game lol. Looking forward to playing more of it.

I am still working on those two final endings for Chaos Head Noah, and working on Sea of Stars, but I got distracted with Super Mario Advance 4(SMB3) and the Star Ocean 2 demo which is utterly fantastic. So I got a lot of options for gaming this weekend. It will be fun and of course I forgot I got sort of hooked on F Zero 99. So many choices….but it will be fun, Happy gaming !

Continuing Sea of Stars. Never thought an RPG with turn-based combat could get me hooked, but I am! This game is so charming and fun!

Continuing with Banner of the Maid on chapter XXI the Knight Returns. Highly recommend this game for anybody wanting a high quality indie SRPG.

Contre Jour (Windows Phone) - Around 3/4 of the way done with this. I've been enjoying it very much so.

Splatoon 3 as usual and I’ll try to play a few races in F-Zero 99. Maybe I’ll play some GX too since I need that F-Zero itch. It’s so weird typing “F-Zero” into the games box and seeing a new entry there lol

I'm feeling Ni No Kuni in honor of Level 5s announcement. I haven't finished it yet.

Baten Kaitos Origins!!! I was so hyped for the remaster because I never finished the prequel back in the day.

Also I started playing the Messenger last week because of all the Sea of Stars hype. (I had it installed on my switch for a while but hadn't gotten around to it.) It's really good! And it has a Québécois translation because the devs are from Québéc. It's pretty funny and makes me nostalgic for the time that I spent living there a few years back

F Zero 99 and tears of the kingdom which im about to finish but man the path to ganondorf is tough fighting so many enemies including a silver lynel is brutal along with fighting ganondorf himself is extremely brutal.Man this game deserves to sweep all game of the year awards.

But really enjoying it. I restarted last month, but now am the farthest I've ever been in the game.

The story is really emersive.

As I'm playing, I'm wondering what this would be like if it were in VR.

@Zuljaras I played Rondo fo Blood last year, and I'll never play it again. It's a great game, but not as good as Super Castlevania IV.

F-Zero 99. I never expected to have so much fun with it. How addictive it is, is FANTASTIC. It's going to keep me busy until MK1 comes out on Tuesday, already have it pre loaded on my Switch!

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. Progressing slowly but the newly arranged soundtracks and the HD visuals makes this gem an experience worth revisiting.

I very impulsively decided to go through the MegaMan Legends games again (something that is very rare for me - I barely play games these days). Just beat 1 - planning on hopping over to 2 soon. and good god, do I miss this series. So much unique charm and wasted potential.

Trombone Champ, Samba de Amigo, Tears of the Kingdom, Rocket League, F zero 99, Pac Man 99, Kingdom 2 Crowns, DonPachi, Battle Garegga, and Saturn Bomberman.

Tinykin. Got it on sale a while ago. Started playing it, really liking it.

For me this weekend is
F-ZERO 99: Say what you want about it being the most recent F-Zero, but this is the most fun I've ever had with the SNES original.

Pokémon Stadium 2 on the NSO app: Late last night (about 1am) I was able to defeat the cheater known as Lance on the Gym Leader Castle with the help of my own cheat called save states, so yes it was a cheater vs. cheater.
Now I can battle the Kanto Gym Leaders, of which I already defeated Brock, Misty and Lt. Surge. Erika and her Vaporeon are the road block right now.

Sonic Origins Plus: So I found a way to have the DLC without re-downloading the full game. So far I've completed Sonic CD and 3&K as Amy (Amy & Tails in the latter). Next I think will be Sonic 2 as Amy & Tails.

Rayman Legeds: Definitive Edition and Rayman Legends (Wii U): The games are pretty much completed, but I still need to get Lums (a total of 1,000,000) for the remaining 2 Heroes/costumes. I also decided to boot up the Wii U original and realized I'm missing the same Heroes/costumes.

I played PIKMIN 3 DELUXE. 🙂

I have accumulated 10 hours gameplay, obtained 5 different types of Pikmin creatures (Red, Yellow, Blue, Pink, Rock) and still working on Final place.

Too many to list, lol .. main ones being Grisaia: Phantom Trigger 6, Forgive me Father, Turok and Mass Effect.

I've been playing around in F-Zero 99, and started up the Pokemon DLC this morning. Always fun to catch em all!
I might start up Baten Kaitos this weekend (it's downloaded), but I'll probably finish Pokemon first.

Going to playing mostly Pokémon Scarlet: The Teal Mask, with maybe a bit of Final Fantasy II from the Pixel Remaster. I'd like to finish all 6 FF games before FF7R2 comes out.

Fae Farm. That time of year when I have a cozy life sim itch.

I am playing the Resident Evil 4 Remake on PlayStation 5 this weekend and I am loving every minute of it. I have never played this game to completion and it has been a thrill so far. The shadow effects are so incredible in this one.

Smorgasbord this weekend, no thanks to the Direct and a couple of games on sale. Here. We. Go.

2. F-Zero 99 (Smh, as if I don't have enough distractions)
3. Actraiser Renaissance (I said I'd grab it when it went 50% off. Finally me and this classic will tango once more.)
4. Chrono Cross (...Aaaaand this is the other SquareEnix game I was waiting to be 50% off. At long last this longtime Chrono Trigger fan will get to experience this game and form my own opinion.

Honorable mention goes to TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection which I have still been getting a few online matches in ever so often.

Played some Splatoon 3 but am sick of it now. On to Final Fantasy 13 on my PS3 which is getting really good, wish I had played it years ago.

@Qwiff I'd been thinking about playing Blast Corps lately. It's such a cool and unique game I wish they would make some kind of sequel. 1080 and Perfect Dark are awesome too.

After completing and absolutely loving FFVII, I’m going back to FE:3H after a few years. Finally ready to try another path. I wouldn’t say I’m speed running it, but I’m going through as fast as I can while still enjoying everything. I still have Crisis Core FFVII: Reunion, and I bought Ni No Kuni in the last sale. I also loved FFVII so much that I bought FFVIII in the Final Fantasy sale. Needless to say, I have a lot to get to work on before Pikmin 1+2 physical and Wonder come out.😅

Baten Kaitos has been a blast to start replaying. Still one of my favorite games in the genre and one of the most beautiful games ever made. Thrilled that these were remastered. The look and play great, and I’m happy with the lack of VO’s. That was my least favorite aspect of the original games.

Well this week yet again proves interesting. Being free of those morning shifts feels oh so very good. Plans this weekend are fairly simple. Play some trails to azure and stay cozy with some football on the tv. Peak Fall vibes and it ain’t even fall. And I definitely wanna go hard on Trails To Azure minus Monday where I wanna do some Future Redeemed I wanna try to beat Azure soon so I can get even closer to playing Trails Into Reverie. Over on the PS5 tonight is a debate between FFXVI and Baldurs Gate III. Im thinking of restarting my play through of BG3 with a Origin character like Shadowheart as I feel it’ll finally click if I do that and I won’t feel Elden Ring levels of choice paralysis. I know BG3 is special I just ain’t gotten to the core yet. Otherwise this week kinda special. Got Bomb Rush Cyberfunk last week and been enjoying it but this week I’ll be nabbing a copy of Mortal Kombat 1 my first real MK game tho I dabbled in 11 a little. Probably take some trades for it too so I can nab some eshop and psn money for The Teal Mask and Phantom Liberty DLCs for Pokémon and Cyberpunk respectively. Very very excited overall just very good vibes. Otherwise the rotation of games is simple as always. On switch we got Zelda TOTK, Pikmin 4, Trails To Azure, Fire Emblem Engage: Fell Xenologue, Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed, and on PS5 we got FFXVI, BG3, Sea of Stars, Tales of Arise, SF6, KOFXV, and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Anime of the week of course is a big one this week as we have 4 finales this week meaning you won’t be hearing about these anymore: Atelier Ryza, Ayaka, Liar Liar and Yohane The Parhelion. All excellent shows and they made for great summer watching and I can’t wait to see how they end. Also big shoutout to Bungou Stray Dogs for giving me even more trauma then I already have y’all know what you done. And of course shoutout to my podcasts of the week: Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Giant Bombcast, Friends Per Second and Remap Radio. Overall enjoyed the game, but the Sky Armor battles are wearing thin. It just seems like there are way fewer directions combat can take and it's become a slog, especially banging my head on spoiler and spoiler
