Anyone remember Body Harvest (I think that’s the name)? Think that was one of the few N64 titles I did not complete. Would love to try again. Never played Blast Corps either. I don’t think Nintendo are going to charge more but if they did, I’ll be happy to pay extra for a good line up of other retro console libraries.
Anyone on the fence about this. I love Roguelites/likes, my switch is full of them. Ive played crap ones and I’ve played some excellent ones. This is leaning more to the excellent side. Very original concept, gorgeous art style (reminds me of where’s Wally books), a lot of strategy (a lot of pre-planning with every move you take, combat, choices) and the difficulty is just right (some reviews have said it’s too difficult). There are risks around every action you take but you will be rewarded. The characters are interesting and it’s great to see a different bunch of heroes compared to the usual knight/Ranger/wizard affair. The combat system did feel a little obtuse upon first playing it but once I understood the dice and how to get more dice, the combat system is actually pretty cool and it’s essential that pick your comrades well in order to get the most out of combat situations as well as random encounters etc. I really enjoy the exploring side of things. It seems a little unfair at first but you’ll soon get the grips with managing your sanity (basically energy) and travelling will get easier with perks reducing your travel costs, increasing inventory space etc. You can have dinosaurs as allies. Oh and you can mount them as well. The only gripe I’ve had so far is that random perk events can be pretty unfair and can mess up your whole exploration party but I’ve learnt to deal with that situation if it comes to it now. It’s such a chill game as well. And I’m hoping the content holds up as I go deeper into the game.
I just want to point out for y’all that Metro 2033 is about £2.40 and last light is about £8.20. Snapped them straight up. No idea if they are part of this sale though
Edit: I may have got them the wrong way round. Still an absolute steal if you want some immersive shoot em ups.
While Subnautica follows the basic recipe in terms of survival games. It really is one of the most unique experiences you’ll ever have the pleasure of playing.
The problem I will always have with single player card games is Slay the Spire spoilt me with probably the best a single player card game can ever be until Slay the Spire 2 ever happens (and that might not even be as good).
Slay the Spire is a 10/10 masterpiece and best money I’ve ever spent and I recommend it even to gamers who don’t like card games. I’ve put over 300hrs into it!
Last time I played subnautica it was in early access on the Xboxone. It seemed ok then, I didn’t think it was an amazing game but I caught it in its early life. I bought the double pack based off this review from game collection and it came yesterday (£40 is the cheapest I’ve seen physical anywhere for both games). The first 30 minutes, it felt like it wasn’t a game for me. But I stuck with it and didn’t get to sleep until 1am this morning, it hooked me in well and truly and looking forward to a good sesh this weekend. Great gameplay, great soundtrack and it really does look beautiful. The fear is also very real but once I got over the initial overwhelmingly intimidating ocean, the fear eased up (although I shudder when I read about the leviathan class creatures, and the fear will return then for sure). The UI/PDA (nothing worse than a laggy PDA in any game) is also incredibly responsive and easy to use and crafting was simple and quick. I encountered some very minor pop up and very little frame drops but didn’t detract from the experience at all. This might change as the game progresses and areas get a bit heavier, but promising so far.
I will be jumping between Doom Eternal and MHR. I also picked up all the Outlast games to play in the evening. Great deals on the eshop, I couldn’t resist.
This is terrible news, means some poor parents will get tricked into buying it for their children without testing it out first. Unethical business practice.
REmake was the best video game remake in history imo. Nailed it on every level considering it’s base material was already amazing. I know it will never happen with the great direction the RE series has gone with 7 and Village coming soon, but I’d love to see a new Resident Evil in this original style
I honestly think this game is nothing like Hades and it shouldn’t be compared. The only similarities are it’s a dungeon crawler rogue lite and it has an isometric view.
This game is very much its own game, it has its own ideas. You can adapt your build a lot more mid run, the curse system is great. You can parry and dodge roll. There is a stamina system. You can charge all attacks + weapon combos. Also a combo system that rewards you for playing better. You can plan your route along the dungeon. There are no permanent character upgrades, just unlocking weapons (and there is a lot), unlock new starting presets (which are randomised), and get rerolls. There are buffs like Hades however and that’s the closest comparison progressive upgrades wise. It also feels incredibly well balanced and you get rewarded for playing well. There is a lot here on offer that differs it from Hades. Essential purchase for any roguelite fan.
@TYRANACLES Huntdown was such a surprise hit, had some immense fun with it and now trying to complete it on the hardest difficulty. @dugan I don’t cry much but that game did something to me, it’s a game everyone needs to experience.
Spiritfarer is the most beautiful game I’ve ever played and sad to see barely any mentions. Think it got missed within all the TLOU2 hype. That said, Hades is my GOTY with Huntdown as my 2nd place. Spiritfarer at 3rd
Just finished this. Took roughly 15 hrs if anyone is interested. Explored all of the world. It’s a solid game that loses its way in the final act. Melee combat is ok and could be better considering it’s your main weapon. Firearms are unexciting and nothing special. The real treat is the world you can explore. There are some cool (and meh) set pieces/stories, some twists and turns. Solid voice acting let down slightly by the usual cliches. Will never play it again 7/10
The only Black Friday sales worth waiting for are the digital sales on the eshop. Also if you are in the UK, i've heard that Aldi of all places are selling Switch's at 60 odd quid off.
@BigE @JHDK Congratulations to you both on your fitness achievements. I love reading stories about self improvement. I think we all need that little push or inspiration to get active and if an Nintendo product can inspire even a little, well that's a product well made IMO.
The most comforting games I've played on the Switch, has to be:
Stardew Valley - Heroin in digital form
Slay the Spire - The most relaxing but tactical and challenging roguelike I've ever played.
Binding of Isaac - Just never gets old
And recently I've got back into Terraria - My lockdown ladyfriend and I have started a brand new skirmish, she has never played it before and we're both hooked. So much more fun with splitscreen co-op
For those on the fence, buy this game. This review was amazing because it explained the game perfectly without giving anything away. There is so much love put into this game and admittedly it may cater more for English folk as there are English pop culture references everywhere but that aside, it's in the running for my favourite game of the year.
Shame Mario Maker 2 isn’t discounted for those yet to purchase it. That game is in my top 3 mario games of all time. Endless entertainment and never gets old.

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Top 15 Most-Downloaded Switch Games In August 2021 (Europe)
I was expecting to see Spelunky 1 or 2 on the list. Thought that game was more anticipated.
I’m still tempted by Slime Rancher. May pick that up soon!

The Nintendo Switch 27 odd years later rekindled my love for gaming in a market saturated with amazing looking games with absolutely no soul.
