Re: Random: Xbox Celebrates The GameCube (And The Dreamcast!) On Their 20th Anniversary

Neckcrane

Ahh the generation of the real Console wars. And I’m talking about the battles that were fought on the school playground, the school bus and in your local park . The constant arguing, bickering, shouting at/with your mates, ‘but Xbox is so powerful and has Halo’, ‘GameCube has the finest shade of indigo and has REmake and a…carry handle???’, ‘PS2 has everything else’. Actually had to buy magazines back then to keep upto date on everything as well as playground rumours. What a time to be alive.
GameCube was my fave (:

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 6th)

Neckcrane

@BenAV
Dude I’ve done the same with Repentance, I’ve started a brand new save file as well. TBOI is my most played game on the switch and quite possibly ever and Repentance will easily triple my play hours.

Other than The Binding of Isaac, I will be playing Disco Elysium, Tetris Effect and Smash Bros.

An action packed weekend for me! Everyone else enjoy their weekend 😁

Re: Feature: The Scariest Game On Every Nintendo Home Console

Neckcrane

While I’m yet to decide whether or not Sunless Sea is a scary game, I’d like to thank the reviewer for highlighting it because I had no idea this game existed and it’s the perfect type of game I’ve been looking for. From looking at reviews and a few comments from people on here, it’s also a great game. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in tonight.
It reminds me a lot of my favourite (while not the scariest) horror game on the Switch, Darkwood. That game riddled me with the same anxiety and fear and dread I had when I first played Resident Evil on the GameCube and I highly recommend Darkwood to any survival horror fan.

Re: The Superb 3D Action-Platformer Blue Fire Just Got A Free DLC Expansion

Neckcrane

Took the plunge and got this last night. It really is like Dark Souls, Hollow Knight and Zelda made a baby.
I will be glad to see how the difficulty ramps up because most 3D platformers aren’t hard at all really.

Edit: after a day of playing this. I conclude that this game is sick and just the platforming challenge I’ve been looking for.

Re: The D&D Roguelike Game Curious Expedition 2 Is Out Now On Switch

Neckcrane

Anyone on the fence about this. I love Roguelites/likes, my switch is full of them. Ive played crap ones and I’ve played some excellent ones. This is leaning more to the excellent side.
Very original concept, gorgeous art style (reminds me of where’s Wally books), a lot of strategy (a lot of pre-planning with every move you take, combat, choices) and the difficulty is just right (some reviews have said it’s too difficult). There are risks around every action you take but you will be rewarded. The characters are interesting and it’s great to see a different bunch of heroes compared to the usual knight/Ranger/wizard affair.
The combat system did feel a little obtuse upon first playing it but once I understood the dice and how to get more dice, the combat system is actually pretty cool and it’s essential that pick your comrades well in order to get the most out of combat situations as well as random encounters etc.
I really enjoy the exploring side of things. It seems a little unfair at first but you’ll soon get the grips with managing your sanity (basically energy) and travelling will get easier with perks reducing your travel costs, increasing inventory space etc.
You can have dinosaurs as allies. Oh and you can mount them as well.
The only gripe I’ve had so far is that random perk events can be pretty unfair and can mess up your whole exploration party but I’ve learnt to deal with that situation if it comes to it now.
It’s such a chill game as well. And I’m hoping the content holds up as I go deeper into the game.

Re: Review: Rise of the Slime - Slay The Spire Lite, With Tiddly Text

Neckcrane

The problem I will always have with single player card games is Slay the Spire spoilt me with probably the best a single player card game can ever be until Slay the Spire 2 ever happens (and that might not even be as good).
Slay the Spire is a 10/10 masterpiece and best money I’ve ever spent and I recommend it even to gamers who don’t like card games. I’ve put over 300hrs into it!

Re: Review: Subnautica + Subnautica Below Zero Double Pack - An Accomplished Double Dive

Neckcrane

Last time I played subnautica it was in early access on the Xboxone. It seemed ok then, I didn’t think it was an amazing game but I caught it in its early life.
I bought the double pack based off this review from game collection and it came yesterday (£40 is the cheapest I’ve seen physical anywhere for both games). The first 30 minutes, it felt like it wasn’t a game for me. But I stuck with it and didn’t get to sleep until 1am this morning, it hooked me in well and truly and looking forward to a good sesh this weekend. Great gameplay, great soundtrack and it really does look beautiful. The fear is also very real but once I got over the initial overwhelmingly intimidating ocean, the fear eased up (although I shudder when I read about the leviathan class creatures, and the fear will return then for sure). The UI/PDA (nothing worse than a laggy PDA in any game) is also incredibly responsive and easy to use and crafting was simple and quick.
I encountered some very minor pop up and very little frame drops but didn’t detract from the experience at all. This might change as the game progresses and areas get a bit heavier, but promising so far.

Re: Review: Curse of the Dead Gods - Fans Of Hades Will Find Lots To Like Here

Neckcrane

I honestly think this game is nothing like Hades and it shouldn’t be compared. The only similarities are it’s a dungeon crawler rogue lite and it has an isometric view.

This game is very much its own game, it has its own ideas. You can adapt your build a lot more mid run, the curse system is great. You can parry and dodge roll. There is a stamina system. You can charge all attacks + weapon combos. Also a combo system that rewards you for playing better. You can plan your route along the dungeon. There are no permanent character upgrades, just unlocking weapons (and there is a lot), unlock new starting presets (which are randomised), and get rerolls. There are buffs like Hades however and that’s the closest comparison progressive upgrades wise.
It also feels incredibly well balanced and you get rewarded for playing well.
There is a lot here on offer that differs it from Hades.
Essential purchase for any roguelite fan.
