Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 13th)

Mega late to the weekend party.

Had a cracking weekend on XC3, it really is the best of the series. The writing is superb.

I bought Cult of the Lamb but won’t play until at least Xeno is finished.

And Monster Hunter Rise, jeez the game is almost too big now to get round to everything. Won’t stop me from trying though

Tetris Connected in between. Fricking love that game.

@Matt-e-r Kudos to packing in drinking dude. Love reading things like this. You do get a new sense of perception/ immersion when you give up the drink in a lot of aspects in life alongside gaming. I actually play through games I completed when I was a boozer and for most games, it’s like playing them for the first time. Almost like a 1/2 memory wipe.

I just want to say, I love these types of articles. It’s been wonderful reading everyone’s relationship to gaming. Really brings out a different side to the medium.

Literally had split from my now ex wife days before first UK lockdown. Animal Crossing: New Horizon was an absolute godsend. It’s a simplistic game but the escapism is huge. I don’t really play it anymore as I’ve moved passed that stage in my life but I’m still grateful for the purpose it served.

The writing and voice acting in this game is next level. Absolutely superb stuff.
So happy they’re still giving it some tlc and extra content.

EDIT: they weren’t licking the rum off the table when they said loading times have been improved. Super quick loading now!

Stardew tops the feel good list for me. Read and heard so many amazing personal stories of the game helping people with anxiety and depression, myself included.
The one man developer deserves every cent he gets and then some.

Sales were pretty rad over the Christmas/new year period. So much so that I’ve made a resolution to not buy any more games until BOTW2 hopefully comes out this year…
This weekend I’m determined to finish Aeon Drive (with the quickest times as well) and Deaths Gambit: Afterlife. I’ve been playing them in small sessions over the last month and I’m now in the final stretch. In between them, TBOI: Repentance has been keeping me very very busy.

Kaze and the Wild Masks - A great (and cheaper) alternative to Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze.
Dreamscaper - haven’t played much of this but the premise intrigued me and I will sit down with it properly soon.
Monster Train: First Class, If you’re a fan of Slay the Spire, this is another deck builder equally as brilliant as STS. This game got my longest playtime this year. Content for days. Lots and lots of strategic versatile play styles. It’s a 10/10 alongside STS.
Curse of the Dead Gods - Has been compared to Hades but the only similarity is the top down camera perspective and that it’s a dungeon crawler roguelike. It’s very much it’s own game (compared to Hades at least) with its own systems and unique challenges like a parrying system, customisable load outs and lots and lots of curses and darkness😁.
Blue Fire - A great 3D platformer. Very much felt like playing a game that was crossed between Dark Souls, Zelda and Hollow Knight. It has its faults and is far from perfect but devs have been listening and slowly improving the game. Has potential. There are some hardcore platforming challenges to be found here.
Undermine - my latest pick up in the Christmas sales, it looks very nice. I’ve read from multiple sources that while it isn’t innovating in the slightest, it is a masterclass in rogue-like dungeon crawling.

Re: Review: Loop Hero - A Creative And Incredibly Addictive Distillation Of An RPG

I started playing at 5pm, only just finished at 11.30pm. Yep, it’s addictive.
I expected a game like this to not control well with a game pad but it all works bloody marvellously.
Also this is is the type of game like Slay the Spire, I say that in the sense that you can play at your own pace, can pause the game at will, giving you the time to think and it’s basically chill. Chill but challenging and engaging. And I love those type of games.
Soundtrack slaps.

Re: Review: Death's Door - Much More Than The Sum Of Its Zelda And Soulslike Parts

A game made by two people… I mean, you have Battlefields, Cods, FIFA’s and Pokemon’s, Grand Theft Autos and Cyberpunk 2077s and they all boast unfathomable budgets and huge teams and just all the resources they need to produce money grabbing, lifeless, boring, un-innovative and mostly broken games.
But it’s the games like Deaths Door, made by dedicated, small, independent and budget limited game developers that put everything into it to make sure it is of the utmost quality. Well, what’s more original than that.
