To add to my previous comment. This is a solid 11/10 for me. I’ve had a lot more time with it now and I cannot describe the exhilarating feeling you get when you P-rank a level. I’ve almost fully cleared the first floor and can’t wait to tackle the rest of the game.
I’m not the target audience. My daughter is. She will be in awe of this movie no matter what. I will enjoy taking her to see it because of the joy it will bring her
I couldn’t resist in the end and snapped this up. I’ve spent about 10 hours just trying to P-Rank the first level. The controls felt so fiddly at first but once it clicks, it’s smooth as heck. Got a feeling I’ll be sticking with this one a while.
I had a great session on Steam World Heist 2 today, I’m having a lot of fun with it.
For the rest of the weekend, I’m aiming to finish the base story on SMTVengence!
Happy gaming all
You know how black mirror explores alternative dystopian realities. We’re living in one and its life source is based on popular cultured memes. Literally everything is a meme
It’s got to the point in the switch’s life cycle where my back log (and my wallet) just cannot take the sadistic abuse anymore.
This game just looks, there are no words, I must resist. My back log has become so gargantuan, it’s become sentient, it talks to me and pleads no more.
While I’m sad the updates to this phenomenal game have ended. I feel like I can finally aim to finish the boss cells without fear of new things to learn/be overwhelmed by
Man I remember playing this on its original release. I was 8 or 9. My introduction to adventure games. A one of a kind gaming experience I’ll never forget.
Not sure if it’ll have the same impact nowadays on newcomers but it’s a game everyone should play at least once.
My brother had a pirated Japanese copy of F-Zero X. 10 year old me had to work it all out. I remember Deathrace vividly. I’ve had a quick blast on the switch online service recently and it still holds up well.
My daughter made a good observation regarding link in the poster art. He’s surrounded by a purple aura (which could just be the background of the other dimension), we think it’s possible Link might have an antagonistic role within the game.
More than happy to explain. The whole game is about playing poker hands to beat the blinds (basically the score you must make with your poker hands). You play 8 rounds, each round has a small blind, a big blind and a boss blind. You have to beat the boss blind in order to progress to the next round. The blinds get progressively higher and more difficult to make. And boss blinds will have a specific random gimmick that will try to stop your winning streak. You win once you beat the 8th boss blind. The hands you play give different chip values and multipliers. The rarer the hand, the higher the score. However as you learn the game, you can easily win with a ‘high card’ run. You start with a set number of hands you can play and discards to draw new cards. The game gets truly spicy with all the jokers (they all give you different powers, quirks and passive effects), tarot cards (give your cards new effects like added multipler or chip bonus) etc), planet cards (hand upgrading). The game comes with oodles of different card sets to play, tons of added difficulty modifiers, synergies to experiment with. Every run is random giving the game tonnes of replay-ability. I’ve had a lot of fun with it. It’s the kind of game that won’t ever make sense until you try it.
Excellent news! I burnt out on Balatro when it released, cained it for 200 odd hours. Had a break and now it’s a game I jump into once an evening to try and complete the odd stake. This game is going to stand the test of time.
Due to tough financial times, I cashed in the original without ever really playing it. Always said I’d rebuy once I’m back on my feet. They announced this version two days after I cashed it in. Just bought a copy on prime day sales. Looking forward to a more juiced up game.
@LikelySatan Biggest problem with RPGs right, you can only really commit to one at a time. I’m planning on Star Ocean next, it’s at a great price on sale at the moment. It must be good if it tore you away from UO. Make sure you get back to UO at some point, it’s incredibly involving.
I picked up Unicorn Overlord this week and my daughters little face when she realised it wasn’t what she expected 😆 I’ll be playing that in the evenings and probably Minecraft during the day. Happy gaming all.
I picked up Disgaea 4 complete+ last week on sale so going to continue playing through that. In between, Dicefolk is impressing me more and more with each run. The game offers an absurd amount of build customisation and optimisation and I’m enjoying discovering the endless possibilities. I worried that the ‘Pokemon’ side of things would put me off, but the game is pure deck building which was a pleasant realisation for me.
Happy gaming all
I remember when this game first got announced back in the day. Hearing the premise back then filled me with excitement. I unfortunately never got the opportunity to play. Now here might be the perfect time and couldn’t be a more perfect studio to bring it in.
I’ve been gaming with such a tight budget this year so thank god for reasonably priced indies. I did get to play Balatro and Animal Well. Both very well deserving of the indie GOTY label at least. Dice Folk is showing some potential but will see if it’s got legs.
I’ve been playing Bread & Fred with my daughter. I recommend to anyone who wants a genuine belly laughing inducing game.
Other than that, I completed Animal Well during the weekday evenings so going to crack on with the end game stuff. It was so reminiscent of Fez that I’ve started a new play through on that as well and already got to new game+, it’s been great remembering how to solve certain puzzles.
I’ve been playing the Last Faith, it’s had a recent patch and the performance is somewhat improved. Still needs some work though. Other than that, it’s a decent soulsvania that scratches that Bloodborne itch.
Call me old fashioned but just pick yourself up a cheapie guitar, learn the basic chords (Youtube is free education) and practise every single day! Follow up with learning your favourite songs/favourite musician styles. Fulfilment will eventually ensue
Last time I played VS, I set the goal of crashing the game by overlevelling some characters. I succeeded and haven’t played since. This is good enough reason to get back into it.
Had to take a little break from this superb experience because it’s a sensory overload at times (in good and bad ways, how can a game be so equally beautiful and terrifying at the same time?!). Think this patch might justify picking up where I left off and finally facing some fears.
Question for all day one switch owners. Was Shovel Knight your complimentary (second) game purchase after BOTW like it was mine? The perfect modern retro game.

The last trailer they released a few weeks back showed me enough that I’ll get this release day. I won’t be watching this one.
