Re: Team Cherry Provides One Last Silksong Update Before Launch

Max_the_German

@AJWolfTill What you describe seems to be based on the same Switch 1 code, running on both Switch 1 and Switch 2.

But Silksong will support genuine Switch 2 code, allowing for higher resolutions and framerates. There are not many games out there with both Switch 1 and Switch 2 code, which use the NSO cloud system for save file storage.

What are good examples for this kind of games? And what are the experiences with them?

Re: Stardew Valley Creator Announces Version 1.7 Update

Max_the_German

Oh no, it‘s happening again. Several articles about the course of months for an update, like it happened with 1.6.

I still don’t get the fascination. Other companies announce „New update tomorrow, enables 60 fps on the latest console generation“, update lands, everybody downloads it and is happy. Here? The creator doesn’t even say what he plans as the main content updates.

Please, Liam, you seem to be a big fan, but make articles only in case of substantial news (not „ConceredApe said he‘s still working on update 1.7, still can’t say when it will be released“).

@Johnny44 Here are the regulations for the gamescom awards:

https://media.koelnmesse.io/gamescom/redaktionell/gamescom/downloads/pdf/gamescom-award/regulations.pdf

5.4 says „Submitted games must be hands-on playable by the general audience in gamescom‘s entertainment area during the entire duration of the show.“

These regulations are very interesting to read btw. It is defined what a good gameplay is and so on.

Re: Feature: What's It Like To Attend Gamescom 2025?

Unfortunately it seems you haven’t had the time to visit the inner of the Cathedral, it is spectacular in every aspect. The Cathedral is the most popular attraction in Germany with the highest number of visitors per year. And when TV shows asks for the favourite place in the whole country, Cologne Cathedral always wins.

Thanks for this nice report. This hour-long waiting even on Wednesday is really deterrent.

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong Finally Has A Release Date

Max_the_German

Does Nintendo support „Buy a Switch game, and on a Switch 2, it will automatically use the native code“? This is what PlayStation does.

I‘m still not sure whether I want to play Silksong on my Switch 2 (bigger screen, higher resolution, 120 fps, HDR?) or on my Switch Lite (nicer form factor, longer battery life, less screen blur).

I don’t want to play the NS1 version on the Switch 2 because of the lower resolution which doesn’t fit to the NS2‘s screen resolution.

What should I do? Just wait for the cartridge which allows both?

Re: Video: Uh Oh, Elden Ring On Switch 2 Has Issues In Handheld Mode

So my gut feeling was right when I bought the PS4 version for my PS5 a few months ago for 30 euros (haven’t started it yet, Switch 2 is just so captivating at the moment). The Switch 2 CPU is weaker than that of the PS4 Pro, and on that machine, ER often runs like garbage.

I swore that TotK were my last 30 fps gaming in my life, so the only PS4 ports I’d buy the my Switch 2 are the Resident Evil games, Dark Souls Trilogy, Doom 2016 and Eternal, etc.

But I‘m tempted by GTA 6…

Re: Apex Legends Switch 2 Performance And Resolution Upgrade Detailed

Max_the_German

@topsekret Unfortunately, I can’t find good examples to show anamorphic resolutions flr video games (for filmic content you find more than enough). The trick is to use non-square pixels.

The best example might be thr dynamic resolution of Call of Duty: It keeps the vertical resolution constant and only scales on the horizontal one. So if the full resolution is 1920x1080 (PS4), then the lowest resolution it reaches is 960x1080, with numerous steps in between. The reason is unclear: Maybe the implementation was easier, but many people say that the dynamic changes are less noticeable for them, and horizontal lines like edges os buildings remain sharp on the screens.

Keeping the vertical resolution has historical reasons. CRTs showed the horizontal lines much sharper, so a reduction in horizontal resolution was the way to go.

Re: Nintendo Showcases Every Partner Direct Switch 2 Game In New Infographic

Max_the_German

These „Game-Key Cards suck!“ comments get boring. Many if not most of these games would have been digital-only or on small cartridges with „additional download required“ on NS1.

That said, Nintendo should finally offer the option to put NS2-only games on small (and cheap) NS1 cartridges. If a full installation onto the internal storage is required to provide high loading speeds for the proper NS2 experience, so be it.

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase Announced For Tomorrow, 31st July 2025

Max_the_German

Death Stranding 1 is already on almost everything which can run it. This and Baldur‘s Gate 3 are my top guesses for this Direct.

Edit: Plus The Talos Principle 2. Part 1 is already on NS1, running well. And part 2 has a Xbox Series S version which would be a fitting starting point for a port. I have not yet played the DLCs, could be a nice way for me to catch up.

Re: Around 1 In 3 Switch 2 Owners Bought New Pro Controller Despite High Price Point (US)

Max_the_German

@The_Nintend_Pedant No, it‘s just speculation from my side. The old Switch and its controllers used Bluetooth 4.1. These days, 5.x is state of the art, which has some optimisations for energy consumption iirc. So for a lower standby (and operating) consumption, it would totally make sense to only use this 5.x modes. Nintendo could probably set a 4.1 standby mode for legacy support, but this would mean a higher power drain in standby. While playing, the power difference between 4.1 and 5.x would be too small to mention, but over several days of standby, it most likely makes a noticeable difference.

Re: Around 1 In 3 Switch 2 Owners Bought New Pro Controller Despite High Price Point (US)

Max_the_German

@The_Nintend_Pedant „So was purposefully nerfing the functionality of their existing Pro Controller on their new platform.“

Do you mean the inability to wake up the Switch 2? If so, do you know (!) that it would be technically possible? Or is it a principle disadvantage of the new Bluetooth controller, which could require a newer Bluetooth standard for low-power standby operation?
