I‘m playing Helldivers 2 on PS5 right now, great game!

Switch 1 will remain the target platform for 2D Indies for the next 2 to 3 years.

All these Cupheads, Hollowknights, Celests, Animal Wells, Balatros … will also release on Switch 1 in great form.

That will be a big part of its legacy!

Mobile is the Blue Ocean of today. And while Karen played a bit Game Boy as a child, she is now bored with her live, playing random mobile games on the sofa while watching random Netflix shows. Give her good mobile games from Nintendo, and she might get interested in Nintendo games again and buy a Switch Lite with Animal Crossing!

I‘m loving the game so far, half way through the lava world, never played the game before. I like it even more than Tropical Freeze, because I find it more of a challenge (or I‘m just older now).

„Beating“ the PS2 sales numbers is totally unnecessary, and I think the business people at Nintendo think the same.

Seriously, it will just be a button for connecting with Bluetooth headphones, with C for Connection.

The Bluetooth support of Switch 1 was added later and is quite poor (high latency, Bluetooth controller restrictions). These days, everyone has Bluetooth headphones and wants to use them also for gaming. Quick and easy switching the connection from phone to Switch 2 would be great!

I think it won’t be the swan song! There are still too many hardware sales for Switch 1, and there will be for the whole year 2025 and beginning of 2026, assuming that Switch Lite bundles will be much more affordable Christmas/birthday gifts for 8-year-old kids getting their first console.

There are still great Kirby and Yoshi games available for Switch ports, New Super Mario Bros Wii, F-Zero GX, Super Paper Mario, Wario World. Rumours say that a Metroid Dread successor is in the works at MercurySteam, plus all the other rumoured games (Fire Emblem etc.).

I don’t need Mario Kart 9.

MK8 DX is great and just enough for me. When the kids of my friends want to play some MK, with MK8 DX we have so much fun! Maybe I lack fantasy, but for what I want to play a MK game, it couldn’t be better.

I‘m surprised by this lack of QA. With sufficient testing, this problem would have easily been identified in advance.

On the other hand, the track record of Forever Entertainment is not flawless. Where is the good old „Seal of Quality“?

Many sidequests in The Witcher 3 are better than most of the other quests in video game history.

The Japanese gamers obviously haven’t watched Alex Olney‘s review on DKCR HD.

@Olmectron I know, PS4 releases will remain a thing, because it is technically very similar to PS5 (especially SDK-wise), and the power is sufficient for many games. From what I’ve seen in videos, CoD Black Ops 6 runs good and PS4 and great on PS4 Pro.

From the games on this list, maybe half of them will also come to Switch 2, or even more.

@Olmectron It could run on PS4, but not on a quality level many gamers today would accept.

@Varkster Fair point, and it is clear that comparisons for the CPU performance are not appropriate in the moment, mainly due to architectural differences. But it’s also clear that the CPU performance will be comparable poor due to power constraints for portable play! We are lucky that the PS4 and Xbox One CPUs were quite poor as well, but it is not unrealistic that even they are significantly more performant.

And the CPU performance determines the ability for ports from PS4/PS5.

Yes, but only if it runs at 60 fps while retaining the visual style of the game, which I doubt because there are no plans revealed for a PS4 release. Wicked seems to be a really tough action game, and I don’t want to struggle just because of a poor framerate.

@CJD87 The Bloody Baron is great and so prominent in the game that I wouldn’t consider it a side quest, regardless you can finish the game without touching it. Maybe one day CDPR will reveal the percentage of players who finished this quest during their first run.

Why do you take the price into account?

The price can change, while the game remains as it is (later patches here not assumed). If somebody reads these comments in a couple of years, they will be very irritated.

It‘s like you‘d read comments from 1996 about DKC3 like

„Bad game, because Nintendo wants full price, but it’s only a 2D game, and nobody wants to pay full price in this new era of 3D gaming.“ Totally out of place for somebody who wants to play DKC3 today via NSO, because the game was and is great, regardless of contemporary feelings.

I‘ve bought it now for the first time, and it is great. Graphics are not as shiny as of Tropical Freeze, but gameplay is top notch. And I find it harder than TF, which I appreciate (or my reflexes were just better back than when I played TF).

These are well spent 55 EUR for me!

Even my friends without contact to video games learnt about the Switch 2 trailer via general news sites. The Nintendo Switch 2 release will become a huge thing, even here in Sonyland.

The wide bezel on the sides is needed because of the long blue/red „shoulders“ of the Joycons. These Joycons are much bigger than we might think they are!

Remarkable what fundamental shift the management team achieved with Atari. It reminds me of Lego, which was almost dying before Jørgen Vig Knudstorp became new CEO in 2004, and now Lego is highly profitable and hip.

Maybe this is not DK, but the return of DK Junior. You know, the ORIGINAL character in Super Mario Kart.

Japan is Nintendo Land, and that’s not good for competition I think.

I find this comparisons with Tropical Freeze unfair! The 2010 DKCR got a „Outstanding 10/10“ from Nintendo Life. And now, with more levels, better controls and better graphics, it‘s only a „Good 7/10“. Okay, different reviewer, but the core game is the same, and standards for precision platformers didn’t change to much in the last 15 years, TF was an evolution, not a revolution of this original formula.

TF is great, yes, but DKCR as well!

This game primarily targets a younger audience which wasn’t gaming (or not being born yet) in 2010 and newer played the inferior 3DS version.

So most of us in the comments here - and in the NL team as well - are NOT the main audience.

And still I am happy to play this game with the extra levels and mostly smooth 60 fps on the go! The price is acceptable for me.

@harrystein I disagree. With a PS4-like performance, the importance of multi-platform releases and the appeal of portable gaming (even Sony and Microsoft seem to work on that), Switch 2 could be THE place for playing the best titles of the past decade and even some newer ones.

If it runs at a decent framerate, Switch 2 will be my platform to play Elden Ring for the first time!

I‘m surprised that it‘s more than 8 GB, because 16-GB-cards are more expensive than 8 GB ones. Or Nintendo is removing something optional from the card and adding it back via a day-one patch, as they did with TotK.

Can’t wait for the release, so rumors finally stop.

@OorWullie As far as I know, it is always-online for all relevant game modes, streaming the polygon models and textures and the real local weather of your vietual position in the world.

@Mirastrix Here talked a lot about Switch Pro for a long time, which never materialised, true. But he insists that his information was credible, and Nintendo killed it for an unknown reason.

Long story short: If you hear confidential information from inside a company, it is likely that many things are wrong, because a lot of stuff is cancelled during development (personal professional experience).

@OorWullie Big question here is internet access, because the maps are so huge that the files are not stored locally on your Xbox, but streamed from MS servers.

Microsoft knows that its games will sell very well on Switch 2, Minecraft on Switch is printing money.

@JokerCK There is this small game GTA6. Even if it would be released on Switch 2 on the same day as on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S (which is highly unlikely for several reasons), Nintendo would probably not be able to manufacture enough Switch 2 systems to compete.

I don’t see any problem:

• Would Switch 2 release earlier because of an earlier announcement? No.
• Would Switch 1 sales be lower due to an earlier announcement? Yes.

Result: Nintendo will stick to its plan, rightfully so.

My Super Metroid gets the love it deserves!

With my more than 30 years of gaming experience, I consider Super Metroid THE best video game, full stop. After these 8 to 10 hours for your first playthrough, you will know if it’s your cup of tea.

No bottleneck for thr capacity, but bandwidth can be a huge bottleneck. The calculation in the Reddit post NLife cites for the memory bandwidth is credible and says 60 GB/s, while the „main“ RAM of the Series S provides 224 GB/s, PS4 with 176 GB/s.

So raytracing is technically possible, but very unperformant. How else will the low memory bandwidth effect the overall performance?

Which Switch 2 games will come during the launch window (= launch till the end of 2025)?
I think, that

• a new Mario 3D
• Mario Kart 9
• Animal Crossing and
• Wind Waker HD

are in the realm of possibility.

I‘m very interested in the upcoming analyses of tech pros for the different chips. Are these 48 GBit chips and the famous T239?
