I hope for a decent framerate in portable mode. With mostly stable 40 fps and VRR, this is an instant buy for me. If it’s a messy 30 FPS, PS5 will be the platform.
Wrestling games were a key part of the N64 library back in the day, easy to access. Such a mindless and great couch coop experience!
Nintendo Life should do a special of wrestling games on Nintendo platforms. In a gaming world where many rediscover the old joys of couch coop, it could be the right moment for wrestling games to return in their old glory!
I think the blue shell is needed. Otherwise the no 1 could get ahead too much without correction, while the rest of the field can‘t catch up due to fighting each other.
And now you can also use the feather to avoid the shell (but I couldn’t achieve it yet).
I‘m happy that many addressed issues can still potentially be solved or mitigated by system updates:
Display overdrive (?)
4k with 120 Hz
VRR down to 20 Hz
VRR support for TVs
Easier method for handling virtual game cards
Additionally, I want higher clocks for docked play:
Higher CPU clocks, e.g. those of handheld mode
Higher GPU clocks -> The AC adaptor has lots of reserves left, and the fans are surprisingly quiet. 10 W higher power draw could result in dramatically better results.
@8bitKirby You, and what about buyers of the digital version? Publishers just can’t get away with releasing the physical version for 80 bucks and the digital version for 60 bucks, even 10 bucks difference is problematic to communicate.
But customers don’t want to pay the premium for full cartridges, nor publishers. And if Nintendo could get away with game key-cards, they would stick to them as well.
„EPD“ is imprecise in this context. It is the business division which is home of all internal studios, while acquired studios like Monolith and Retro are managed in a slightly different way.
Here we are talking about EPD production group 8, or simply EPD Tokyo, because it’s the only internal development studio located in Tokyo, while all other studios are located in Kyoto.
I finished BotW yesterday and tried Zelda Notes for maybe 10 min. I found it complicated and confusing, and I wasn’t keen to collect Korok seeds, so I saw no purpose for me.
This fanboyism here is horrible. Of course DF compares Switch 2 with the PS4, because they are in the same ballpark performancewise. As the testings show, maybe the PS4 Pro would be a better comparison because of its higher CPU performance, while the base PS4 struggles to hold 30 fps where it’s no problem for the Switch 2. And except for the higher texture quality and faster loading speeds of the NS2, overall image quality could also be quite similar.
DF is NOT anti-Nintendo! It’s quite the opposite, they adore Switch (2) games of Nintendo or thirds which punch above their weight, like Luigi‘s Mansion 3, Ori and the Will of the Whisps, and Metroid Prime Remastered. And they emphasise where devs bit more than they (or the poor Switch) could chew.
I am genuinely surprised how good this game is! The movement is so much fun, the AI is clever and acts organically, the distribution of items is well balanced. Finally, you get many green and red shells even when in place 2 or 3.
Yes, for serious racing games they are essential. But for all other purposes, I prefer short ways and defined pressure. And no, the DualSense emulation cannot match this!
Why this negativity? Nintendo learned it the hard way, and often only small design changes are enough to solve such issues. The industry makes successful analog sticks for 30 years now, and most of them are without hall effect sensors. Cool down!
@Yosher I agree, having only the option for 64 GB cartridges is not great. But I argue that we will likely see smaller cartridges soon, and many publishers will still prefer the cheaper game-keys. „Complete game on a cartridge“ will be the exception.
>> Nintendo should "take preservation a little more seriously". <<
Should they shut down the eShop and force every other publisher towards full games on cartridges? So basically back to the good ol‘ days of Gamecube and DS Lite? This won’t happen!
Customers want third-party games on Switch, so Nintendo must please these publishers. And with the four options of distribution (full cartridge, game-key, code in a box, eShop), Nintendo is exactly doing that.
@RupeeClock Okay, if you can’t do it with existing pictures, you could still enable this functionality for new pictures. The NS1 will keep living for a long time.
The Switch Lite will remain the best system for 2D games like Hollow Knight Silksong and Hades 2: light, compact, quiet, comfortable to hold, sturdy, with long battery life.
I doubt that we will see a Switch 2 Lite with similar properties any time soon, if at all.
I love this comment section! And the fact that comments like “People don’t want to hear the truth“ get so many upvotes.
It showes me that many here are smart and self-reflective. The great game makers out there made us addicts, and we happily experience the joy and pain of it.
@Varkster Look, I‘m not that clever. I see a video of footage which reminds me a lot of the PS4 version of the game. This may be unfair, because the NS2 will deliver better better anti-aliasing, a 40 fps performance mode and the DLC of course. And a video of the Xbox Series S version could look different to that video, with 60 fps.
Nobody expects a 40 W (?) console with small handheld cooling to perform like a 160 W console, at least not me. And that’s fine. I still don’t expect miracles, and I can’t see them here. The Emporer is naked.
I don’t like this video. The PS5 footage is recorded with 30 fps, but this game runs with 60 fps, also on PS4, its original platform. Not very trustworthy.
@Varkster I still don’t see that the NS2 version would be leaps and bounds better than the PS4 one:
Similar framerate (30 fps with frequent drops)
Comparable resolution (900p-1080p on PS4, 540p with a simplified NS2 version of DLSS Performance Mode)
Is the NS2 lighting model really better?
The NS2 version is probably not the final one, so there can be improvements to come. And they say it provides an 40 fps performance mode, which would be a huge win. But my statement was related to what I saw in the video.
Looks like CP2077 on PS4. So we pretty much know what to expect technologically from NS2. It will improve a bit over time, for sure, but don’t expect miracles.
