Death Stranding 1 is already on almost everything which can run it. This and Baldur‘s Gate 3 are my top guesses for this Direct.
Edit: Plus The Talos Principle 2. Part 1 is already on NS1, running well. And part 2 has a Xbox Series S version which would be a fitting starting point for a port. I have not yet played the DLCs, could be a nice way for me to catch up.
@Pillowpants Metroid Prime 2 probably, could be the latest addition on NSO, revealed directly after the Metroid Prime 4 release date trailer. For Metroid Prime 3 though, we first have to wait for the arrival of thr Wii emulator on NSO.
@The_Nintend_Pedant No, it‘s just speculation from my side. The old Switch and its controllers used Bluetooth 4.1. These days, 5.x is state of the art, which has some optimisations for energy consumption iirc. So for a lower standby (and operating) consumption, it would totally make sense to only use this 5.x modes. Nintendo could probably set a 4.1 standby mode for legacy support, but this would mean a higher power drain in standby. While playing, the power difference between 4.1 and 5.x would be too small to mention, but over several days of standby, it most likely makes a noticeable difference.
@The_Nintend_Pedant „So was purposefully nerfing the functionality of their existing Pro Controller on their new platform.“
Do you mean the inability to wake up the Switch 2? If so, do you know (!) that it would be technically possible? Or is it a principle disadvantage of the new Bluetooth controller, which could require a newer Bluetooth standard for low-power standby operation?
I‘m surprised that Endless Ocean: Luminous was affected. It is published by Nintendo, but it wasn’t marked as incompatible on this list of Nintendo games.
The voltage spikes would mainly be a problem for switching converters with no other loads attached. But here the 5 V bus should power the whole system, so the relative power fluctuations would be comparatively small.
I wouldn’t be afraid of killing my Switch 2 with a fan!
The only NS2 cartridge available now is 64 GB for presumably 16 USD. Let’s assume a 32 GB version would cost 11 USD, a 16 GB version 8 USD, and a game-key card 2 USD.
I have an ifea what most publishers would still choose.
@Samalik "If buying isn't owning, Piracy isn't stealing" sounds nice and clever, and many people use this mantra. But I think it’s BS. And I even don‘t have to go into details about software licences. You know that people worked hard for making a creative product and want to get rewarded for their work and invested resources. And you don’t care.
Elden Ring: I haven’t played it yet, and I wanted my first run on my Switch 2. But based what I‘ve seen here (and other videos), now I don’t expect framerates significantly higher than 30 fps, and I‘m a sucker for fluent gameplay.
So, with the current Amazon Prime offerings, today I ordered Elden Ring PS4 version, to run it with backwards compatibility on my PS5.
This confirms that PS4 Pro with its better CPU than PS4 is a good comparison.
Based on this, many ports will target 30 fps when the PS5 version targets 60 fps. Spoiled by my PS5 and many great games for NS1, I won’t return to 30 fps gaming. 40 fps feels much better, especially with a good VRR implementation, but even that would be too hard to swallow in most cases for me. The CDPR tech demo for The Witcher 4 could be such a case.
So I mainly hope for new third-party games which target 60 fps on NS2 and PS5, with much higher resolutions and better ray-tracing effects on the latter. I look at you, CoD!
@axelhander The main problem with CRTs was the blur when working with Windows applications like Word and Excel. And this permanent flicker, refresh rates below 85 Hz were a physical pain for me. That plus the humongous size, weight and heat. So back then we were all happy to get horrible LCDs for office stuff!
For me, it looks like the same story as with PS5. VRR was added some 18 months after the console launch. PS5 was Sony‘s first console with VRR support, while Microsoft learned it with the Xbox One, and so the Xbox Series X/S implementation is still best in market.
Just wait for a major NS2 software ipdate within the next 18 months.
I‘m playing Super Mario Odyssey right now (now in the post-ending). And with these fresh impressions, I see a lot of similarities in the details. Clearly an evolution of the game engine, refinement of gameplay mechanics, and the same joy of movement. And the love for Pauline!
Unpopular opinion: The effect of game-key cards on the number of releases will be minimal.
They should be cheaper than cartridges with small capacity, which were popular for NS1 games „with additional download required“.
They will replace a few „code in a box“ releases, but not all of them.
„Switch 2 Edition“ games are on NS1 cartridges, so they can also be played on NS1 (and extracted with existing tools for „preservation“). If the pressure from publishers is really high, I expect that Nintendo will soon allow pure NS2 games on cheap and slow NS1 cartridges.
I hope for a decent framerate in portable mode. With mostly stable 40 fps and VRR, this is an instant buy for me. If it’s a messy 30 FPS, PS5 will be the platform.
Wrestling games were a key part of the N64 library back in the day, easy to access. Such a mindless and great couch coop experience!
Nintendo Life should do a special of wrestling games on Nintendo platforms. In a gaming world where many rediscover the old joys of couch coop, it could be the right moment for wrestling games to return in their old glory!
I think the blue shell is needed. Otherwise the no 1 could get ahead too much without correction, while the rest of the field can‘t catch up due to fighting each other.
And now you can also use the feather to avoid the shell (but I couldn’t achieve it yet).
I‘m happy that many addressed issues can still potentially be solved or mitigated by system updates:
Display overdrive (?)
4k with 120 Hz
VRR down to 20 Hz
VRR support for TVs
Easier method for handling virtual game cards
Additionally, I want higher clocks for docked play:
Higher CPU clocks, e.g. those of handheld mode
Higher GPU clocks -> The AC adaptor has lots of reserves left, and the fans are surprisingly quiet. 10 W higher power draw could result in dramatically better results.
@8bitKirby You, and what about buyers of the digital version? Publishers just can’t get away with releasing the physical version for 80 bucks and the digital version for 60 bucks, even 10 bucks difference is problematic to communicate.
But customers don’t want to pay the premium for full cartridges, nor publishers. And if Nintendo could get away with game key-cards, they would stick to them as well.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Partner Direct Predictions - What Do You Expect To See?
@Questionable_Duck „Problem is, Sony wants nothing to do with Bloodborne.“ -> Chance is zero.
Re: Feature: Nintendo Partner Direct Predictions - What Do You Expect To See?
Miyazaki and Sony seem to have a problem with each othet. As long as this persists, Bloodborne will remain an unpatched and stuttery PS4 exclusive.
And even if they can resolve the atmospheric issues: Bloodborne is property of Sony. Chances for a NS2 release: 0
