Well that’s because Disney makes many bad business decisions that crushed them financially so they can’t afford to make this free now. I would have only played it if it’s free, and since it won’t be, I will never get it. And I’m so okay with that. There’s a vast pool of much, much better games than this on the switch.
@Jhena thank you, that’s good to know. I actually get kind of frustrated with platform games now that I’m older so I was looking for an easy, pleasant game, and it’s sounding like wonder is the right one for me!
But how does it compare to the new Sonic game? It seems to have fallen under the radar now. I have yet to buy either of these but if I do, I’m pretty sure I’d start with SMB Wonder. Has anyone played both? I know they are quite different as it was 30+ years ago but still… which of these new ones is more fun?
So Nintendo releases some GameCube games (Pikmin, Paper Mario TTYD, etc) with little to no graphical improvements and everyone is cheering and celebrating, and then they bring out a well polished game created for 3ds that sat on a shelf due to bad timing, that they ended up porting to switch instead and everyone complains about “bad graphics”. What?! 🤨
@samuelvictor I am SO glad you saved the Galaxy! 😀 actually I am not familiar with much of the Star Wars stuff despite my husband being a huge fan of all of that! I did enjoy watching the mandalorian with him though. And the Princess Leia show they had on Disney recently. It’s so awesome you’re working on meaningful projects to help encourage others. I love that! I truly admire you and all you stand for!
@samuelvictor so very well said! Yes! I agree with all of that! And it took me until I was well into my 40s to feel that way myself, of course as a woman, defying what society finds as acceptable for conduct or interests for someone my age or gender. I feel very much at peace, finally, just being who I am, and not feeling like I have to hide what I love most. Oh how I wish we’d found this wisdom decades ago! 😀
And in a few years we will see the same story about the switch. Anything digital or online is temporary. I’m more than half a century old and still enjoy playing physical games I’ve owned since the 70s, 80s, 90s, and beyond. They don’t need an internet connection to play, or to validate my identity (I’m looking at you DRM), and still work fine to enjoy anytime, anywhere, on any compatible system.
They haven’t even come close to handling my most wanted list. I’m still desperately wanting a new Tomodachi Life game on switch, as well as a proper Style Savvy game. Yea I know Fashion Dreamer is coming but it’s very different. I’d also like to see more puzzle games like Bejeweled, Bookworm, Peggle, etc. I’d also like to see a classic compilation of classic Activision games as well as Intellivision games. I understand many of these are not “first party” games, but still… the switch is so lacking for me personally. Oh and don’t even get my started on all the shortcomings of animal crossing new horizons. That game should have packed in ALL the features of new leaf and pocket camp, as well as the few things new horizons offered that’s unique to AC. So much room for improvement here that it should almost be tore down and rebuilt at this point.
This is a door I was not excited to see being reopened. Out of all the paper Mario games, this one was the most frustrating, and I eventually gave up when I reached chapter 7. Then I later came back for some more punishment and got most of the way through chapter 8 and just couldn’t deal with it anymore and gave up. I still have the game and the strategy guide. This just was not a fun one for me. So many other good games out there… I’ll be passing on this rerelease.
The NA/EU box art gives me Lunar feels (silver star story, eternal blue). I like the clean, uncluttered look of it too. And while I’m on the Lunar subject… those games should be polished and released on a 2 in 1 package for switch! They were some of the best RPGs I ever played!
That’s a rather expensive sticker sheet and poster. This game was supposed to be free. I’ve lost hope and interest in it now and moved on to much better games on switch. Never bought it, never will.
Everyone is fussing over red dead redemption when the most important game of all is being ignored. Mouse Trap! 😆 Forget all that noise and violence and just get that cheese! 🧀🐭
Secret of Mana is one of my all time favorites. But it wasn’t so much the colors that stood out for me, despite how vivid and beautiful they are, but the music. That and Final Fantasy 3 had the most memorable music I’d ever heard in video games.
@Teksetter I was not only here in the 80s but also working. And games were quite expensive back then, usually averaging around $40-$50 USD for NES games. I had to thoughtfully consider which games were worth blowing my small paychecks on (considering I made about $3.75 an hour back then!). Seeing a basic or generic looking game box in the store with little to no other info available on a game made it a hard sell. For me, I had the Nintendo Power Magazine which did a huge feature (complete with maps and extensive strategy) on the Zelda game in their premiere issue in 1988, so seeing that made me aware of what I was buying. If it hadn’t been for that, I would not have given that game a second look in such a basic box. And I should note that I typically bought my games at Toys R Us which had this bizarre system of selling games, which had a picture of the front and back of the box inside this plastic flap, and then a “ticket” below that for buying the game that you took to their game counter/booth in the front of the store. So we never actually saw the boxes themselves until the game was paid for and in our shopping bags.
I almost voted for the gold box because that is what I came to know and love as the iconic Zelda game. But as @charliegirl pointed out, nostalgia is indeed a terrible thing. Whisking myself back 30-some years and imagining looking at all of these boxes side by side, not knowing what I was getting apart from seeing the box art, I would have picked the Japanese (FDS) box without hesitation. Remember, the 80s were a time with no internet. In fact, when this game debuted, that was the beginning of Nintendo Power magazine as well, and that was about our only hope for good game information! So it was critical for boxes to have game art that properly represented their games, which sadly most did not. It’s amazing that this Zelda game did so well in the gold box. And the shiny gold cartridge inside that we didn’t see till we opened it was a wonderful surprise too!
You left out Yum Yum Cookstar and Cooking Mama Cookstar. How in the world could you not list those, and note them as the very best cooking games on switch?! Also My Universe Cooking Star Restaurant should have been mentioned too.
Yes, I bought a factory sealed Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX game from Target in the morning on release day, and brought it home and opened it and it was empty. Thankfully they were very kind at Target to let me get one WITH a game. Ever since then, I check every single physical game I buy before opening it, by tilting it sideways with a light source behind it, to see if the cartridge is in there. Nintendo thankfully made these switch boxes mostly transparent so I can see that. I wish they were more transparent though because it’s a bit of a pain to try to see the cartridge in them. You should literally be able to see at a glance if the cartridge is inside, like when you buy a memory card and those packages clearly show it.
Well it might have been Pikmin 4 but my shipment was delayed 🫤 So I’m playing Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life which is by far the absolute best farming game on switch - an absolute delight to play! Much better than the original versions on GameCube! Also been playing Uphill Rush Water Park. I know, it’s a simple mobile port to switch, but it’s just hilarious and so perfect for hot summer days 😁
I finally started playing Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life. This was backlogged a bit, because I played through both versions almost 20 years ago so it wasn’t a new thing for me, plus I was just playing (and finished) Pretty Princess Magical Garden Island. But now that I’m playing SoS AWL, I’m enjoying it SO much! I absolutely LOVE this beautifully updated version of A Wonderful Life. I was a bit nervous about it potentially being bad after so many complaints and bad reviews I’ve seen but honestly I think it’s fantastic. It’s a big improvement over the original games, and yet still retains all the aspects I love so much about it while looking and playing so much better!
I’d rather they just bring back a PokeWalker, perhaps in color (like a Tamagotchi), and of course Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver for switch, enhanced, updated, remastered, etc.
The bathroom course is crap. No pun intended. The pipe is nasty, filled with sludge, and the course has very little guidance on where to go so I end up all over the place. I’m glad I didn’t pay for this DLC. It’s been underwhelming from day 1.
Alright so while we are on the subject, this would be an excellent time for someone to add the very old school classic detective game Deja Vu to the Nintendo virtual console. It was released both on NES and GameBoy color in the 90s, and is a fun and engaging game with a lot of nostalgia. I loved playing that way back then!
I would think, based on how things with Nintendo operates, they are already well into creating the “sequel” and I would think they are remastering Paper Mario Thousand Year Door as well. Typically releasing something like this RPG is a test run to see how fans react, and it’s been a huge response. Nintendo will likely run with that. We all would enjoy some Mario RPGs wouldn’t we? 😀
Pretty Princess Magical Garden Island. That was released June 22. This has become my all time favorite game after playing it about 8 actual hours so far. And I have played thousands of games in my life. You guys need to check this game out! It’s amazing! It’s a bit similar to Story Of Seasons.
@TYRANACLES Puppy Island is very cute! I like it a lot. You get the Nintendogs aspect with this game, but also go on little adventures with the puppies and get treasures. The graphics are good, the game is bright, cheerful, and fun, and I love all the cute accessories! There’s a demo in the eShop too so you can try it out
Grow - Song of the Evertree (an outstanding treasure of a game that NintendoLife completely ignored) Pretty Princess Magical Garden Island (another gem omitted on NintendoLife) Little Friends (the old one + Puppy Island that just arrived yesterday) And Style Savvy Styling Star on 3ds
Pretty Princess Magical Garden Island released on June 22 in North America, and while it’s currently sold out at some retailers (after shipping their preorder stock), GameStop as well as the publisher Aksys games has it in stock. That is a fantastic game too! It deserves a review.

If the next switch was digital only, that would be the point where I would permanently part ways with Nintendo after a solid 35 years of loyalty.
