I thought multiple switches were damaged, not just one. Either way it’s nice they are donating the proceeds to charity but I’m not sure this effort will remove the tarnish from their image.
I love mine much more than I thought I would. The battery has been excellent, the screen is excellent, it’s clear, vivid, and huge! The controllers work very well and are comfortable to use. I have no complaints whatsoever about the system itself. I do wish Nintendo had released a variety of games at launch, particularly for the cozy gamers because we really had nothing for our new system. Ideally a new animal crossing game would have been the way to go. Fortunately the system is backwards compatible so I’m using it with my older games which look outstanding on this new big screen! It breathes new life into those old games!
I still think it should have been free/included with the system. Or if they want us paying for it, add twice as many games on it, and sell it for $30 on a cartridge. They could call it “Welcome Tour - Expanded Edition” and just sell the basic one for $10 on eShop too.
The greatest revival they hope for will be squashed if they release game key cards. Make these games fully physical and the revival wishes will become a dream come true. Of course good quality games are a requirement too, but hopefully they know that!
This looks really cute but it should be a puzzle/bubble bobble game instead where you can play both games. I prefer puzzle bobble (aka bust a move), but I don’t mind bubble bobble.
This is the best news I’ve seen all week. I hope these third party companies that are trying to force us to buy their stupid game key cards are getting a clue. No one wants that junk!
This is a cute and fun facet to the game but it makes me think of how I wish they’d offered this type of photography option in Pokémon Snap on switch. Where you could freely explore and get the photos you really wanted.
I kinda feel like this Nintendo’s way of saying “yes we know a Switch DS is what you really wanted/needed but since that would cost more to make, here is your hillbilly version, use your own second screen and pretend it’s a DS!”
Straight out of the box the battery drained ultra fast. After charging it to 100% I’ve noticed it drains about the same as my standard (2019) switch 1 or my new switch lite. I’m getting about 4-6 hours on average between charges on my switch 2 so far. I’m satisfied with that.
I’ve had this happen with FedEx, UPS, and USPS multiple times every year with packages of all sizes and values. I’ve sent my security camera videos to the delivery services and reported these incidents and shown them photos of the damage. They do absolutely NOTHING about it, the same people that do these things still continue to deliver and damage items, and the couriers always say if items are damaged, contact the shipper because the couriers accept no responsibility. This is why companies like Nintendo need extreme padding and protection in their game system boxes. They have no idea what’s going on in the real world. I was forced to have my switch 2 delivered because my local stores had none in stock. The shipping box was crushed and the console box was damaged as well, so obviously there was some brutality happening to mine too. Thankfully the box wasn’t crushed in the area where the screen was. Only the side with the controllers.
The PWM on their cheap OLED screen was absolutely sickening in the worst possible way, resulting in guaranteed 3-5 day severe migraines after playing. If they had used OLED on the switch 2 I would have absolutely never considered getting one. Thankfully they used a high quality IPS LCD which has zero flicker and is vivid, sharp, and very easy on my eyes. I have seen none of this blur mentioned here. Maybe the “lottery” was in my favor. But my switch 2 has a better screen than any other electronic device I have, including my steam deck.
Hello Kitty Island Adventure plays so much like this game but it is tremendously better in every possible way. And it’s available in a physical format with all the extra stuff included on it, instead of buying DLC!
Beyond the fact this should be free, it should have just been included on the system straight out of the box, like Mii Plaza, Face Raiders, AR Games, etc was on the 3DS.
Everything about GameStop is an idiot factory, however, the way Nintendo packs this console in the box is extremely concerning. Compare that with how the steam deck, for instance, is packaged when purchased from Steam… that it ships safely within its own carry case (that Nintendo makes you buy yourself for their system), and the carry case with steam deck inside is shipped inside a cardboard box as well. So why would Nintendo put their console, that costs this much, right under a flimsy cardboard lid with NO protection?? Don’t they understand that millions of people will be getting these delivered via courier services that seem to play football with their parcels considering the condition they often arrive in!
Roughly 2000 people, polled here but globally as this is a global website, have committed to buying this on/near launch day. That’s actually a pretty small number. So does that mean they won’t be selling out this system after all, or that Nintendo Life has a small audience? 🤔 or perhaps people are already in line at the stores and don’t have time to bother with being online?
What will be interesting is how many people will say it’s worth $80 after they have purchased and played it. Most notably the ones that didn’t get the digital version packed in with the switch. Which is really what the game should cost - $50 - because at the end of the day, it’s still just Mario Kart. And it should be $50 for the physical game, not a digital one bundled with the system.
Nintendo is one of the largest companies in the world. Wouldn’t it have made sense to just make enough supply to meet demand? Or do they not have the ability? 🤔
I have 192 actual PHYSICAL switch games right now, and more on the way. I own 7 switches including 2 switch lites, an OLED, 3 neons, and the blue/green animal crossing switch. The only thing I’m bidding farewell to is digital gaming. My collection will live on and be played as long as I’m alive.
Also I’m still playing my 3ds, DS, GBA, GameBoy Classic/Color games regularly too. Why do people think that if you get something new then everything old has to be gotten rid of. I hope you don’t use this reasoning if you have multiple children too!
I preordered the physical copy of this about a month ago because this game , in my opinion, has a lot of the same kind of wacky and hilarious humor Tomodachi Life has. Of course this game goes way beyond the simplicity of that old gem, and looks so fun and engaging in its own way. I love games that break the mold and do things differently. I hope this one is a grand success and maybe encourages more like it to be developed in the future.
I’m just kind of laughing at how they call Mercari a flea market. I always said eBay was like a garage sale too. lol Anyway they need to stop the scalping in America far more than Japan. People here scalp for a living instead of work real jobs, in many cases.
Instead of a game “coming in hot”, I would much rather see it come in finished. I would patiently wait for that under any circumstances, if it means having complete physical copies with no updates or DLC needed.
Why not just make a powerful dual screen Super AMOLED handheld system for Nintendo gaming? Like a modern Nintendo DS with superior specs? It could run alongside the switch 2 without stealing its sales, just like all their other handhelds that ran alongside the TV-connected consoles in the past.
An insider working at Nintendo of North America confirmed this to me yesterday as well, but expanded upon it to basically say that going forward the consumers would be the ones to direct how this turns out, long term. If people prefer the physical game cards, they will continue to produce/sell them but if they prefer/purchase the digital or game key cards, then that will be what they will eventually sell. That’s why they use the wording they do, as in saying “no plans” to sell non-physical games. That’s very much subject to change. So to those of you that prefer physical, be heard! Like I said to them, it’s the consumer that makes a company! Without us, they don’t exist. So not only do we need to make it clear to them we want the physical games but we need to always buy them and never the other formats. Third party companies will take note and abandon the game key cards and digital only releases also.
As an older gamer, I have no use whatsoever for this. I game solo 99% of the time, and those rare occasions I play online with someone else, we are always on the phone together during that so there’s zero need for this game chat. Furthermore it feels invasive to me. Yes I know nothing is private anymore but why does Nintendo have to get in on my personal life? And the worst part here is this type of thing is more for children in my opinion and the high price of the switch 2 and it’s games kind of excludes a lot of families with children because for many it’s simply not affordable.
While I have no interest whatsoever in playing games that are not legitimately used/obtained, I think there should also be an agreement that us gamers impose upon game companies that once we PAY for a game, it is OURS, permanently. That it will not require validation online to play regardless of what system we play it on as long as it was validated on each system and account at the point of sale. This would scrap their ridiculous policy of having to “check to see if software can be played” every single time we play it on a “non-primary” switch. Apple products validate your digital purchase so they can be used on any apple device with your account regardless if you’re online or offline, forever. But Nintendo is too cheap to use that technology. So anything digital is never yours.
I absolutely do not support companies doing what Genki did and I completely understand Nintendo wanting to sue them, however I think the Genki leaks/reveals actually helped Nintendo more than hurt them. Yes it stole the “thunder” from the Nintendo direct but it also created a frenzy of chatter beforehand which was helpful because the Switch 2 announcement was kind of dull on its own, in my opinion. There likely would have been LESS interest if people did not already have some expectations and knowledge of what was coming.
Selling physical games only (and no digital) would be a major solution to this problem. Companies don’t push out physical games and invest the time and money into manufacturing and distribution unless they have some confidence in quality and sales. Yes I know some duds still slip thru but there is far less than what you see in the eShop. Funny how people want the digital games so bad but then complain about all the issues associated with it (slop in the eShop, lack of folders, DRM, file sizes, storage, etc), and still have to buy physical micro SD cards to store them on too! Ridiculous!
@dazzleshell that’s interesting. Do you do that with your games? I don’t. I keep mine in circulation perpetually. I still regularly play games I’ve had almost 50 years and everything in between. I make a point to play new and old games daily, cycling though legacy games to keep them in good working order.
I thought amiibo figures were grossly overpriced 10 years ago. This is outrageous now. What is even the point of paying all that money for a little statue that might get you an unnecessary bonus in a game?
I thought jamboree was awful. Like as awful as star rush. And that’s bad. On a side note, I wish they would release a switch lite XL. As in a 6”+ screen with the same integrated controls and all. They could do that easily by just getting rid of the bezel. Kinda like they did on the oled.
Wow. So could it ever be noted that the fact is there are less physical games to actually buy, so therefore sales of them are down. Give people a choice, don’t force their hand and then report poor sales on the items they didn’t have adequate supplies of to actually purchase from. As such, this article is almost fake or biased “news”.
I have the old PS1 collectors editions. They are like new but of course have aged, and the metal tarnished slightly on the pendant. They have things like cloth maps, hardcover books, standees, necklace, soundtrack CDs, etc. I actually kinda want to sell them. Not really into Lunar anymore. I really loved them back in the 90s and played thru and beat the games back then. Hard to believe it’s been almost 30 years now. Where does the time go?!
The simplest solution and this applies to everything, not just the Switch 2, is have enough supply to meet demand. Why companies perpetually fail at this has always been a mystery to me.
