I had considered it but I went and played my original copy on my GBA SP and it didn’t age well. The games aren’t as fun as they were 20+ years ago so I’m not buying the overpriced digital ones now.
I played that on my NES thru the blazing hot summer of 1989 on a big old console TV while I sat on a pillow on the living room floor lol. Still lived with my parents at that point and I remember my dad complaining that the Zelda overworld song was stuck in his head all the time from me playing that so much 🤣 fun times lol
Also one of my high school friends brought over the very first Nintendo power magazine and gave it to me to help me through second quest of the game because it had all those maps and stuff. I still have that worn out and well loved 1988 issue all these years later!
@Bass_X0 I have all those on cartridges as well as these Pokémon ones. I mean yeah it’s nice to play them on a bigger screen but they are still rentals. I’d rather just own them and play them on my terms.
I would have happily paid $40-$50 for a cartridge containing both of these even though I only want one. But at least they didn’t take the NSO route because that’s just a one year rental for $50 to play these and that’s a waste. $20 to partially own one is better than that for sure.
The virtual boy and all of its games are a poop stain in the Nintendo portfolio that should have remained a part of history and never brought back. Why do they waste time on things like this, Labo, clocks, talking flowers, etc when we could instead have good quality games, the stuff that once made Nintendo a household name. Give us a new Animal Crossing, Nintendogs, Dr Mario, Style Savvy, and another handheld dual screen system! Not this ridiculous nauseating virtual boy thing that no one asked for!
Angry Birds was fun 10-15 years ago or so, but wasn’t their last release in the early days of 3DS? I liked that game quite a bit but it was so tiny and hard to see. If they wanted to reCOOP (ha) their money, shouldn’t they have released an angry birds game for switch?! Now they sit here with egg on their faces.
They can afford to give away tote bags, game cases, and “empty” cartridges, but can’t put the whole game on the cartridge which is actually a pretty small file size for switch 2. Not sure if I’m amused, disgusted, or both. 🤨
All these excited, hopeful, ambitious switch 2 buyers, sitting here faithfully waiting for games to be released for the system… waiting, waiting, waiting…..
@Anti-Matter it bothers me to see these kids here attack you so much for stating things you believe in. Don’t let them get to you. I agree with you completely, the game key cards are indeed a scam. They want to go cheap and make us pay for the storage and still charge a premium price for their digital game. Keep standing your ground. I’m standing right beside you!
It’s funny, you can ask that question at Nintendo Life where the crowd here likes about 5 different games/series, and they aren’t interested in this game at all. Then you go to the mainstream gamers and there’s an extreme overwhelming positive response/interest in this game. As for me it is the best switch news of this entire decade and I’ve been waiting for this since the day I bought my switch so yes I’m absolutely getting it. Watch it be a number one seller while everyone here scratches their head in disbelief and confusion 🤣
Not releasing any good games for it is problem number one. And then this whole key card issue has hurt them so bad that people are running backwards in record numbers to buy older systems such as DS and 3DS to get back to gaming that is not only fun but complete. Nintendo has completely lost sight of what kind of company they once were. No more colorful consoles, no more cool system themes, no more good wholesome games (like a new Animal Crossing game for instance, which everyone was hoping for!). What does Nintendo have now to set them apart from other systems? Not much, if anything.
It’s nice they are making a new Mario Tennis game but personally I’d much rather have a new Mario Golf game, one that was more like the GameCube version but with at least a dozen new courses
Another case of supply never meeting demand, that could easily be remedied by just making more supply. They know there is 10x more demand than they ever have supply for, so let’s see if they have any intelligence about it this time around.
This just makes my blood boil. As a former developer of video games, I can’t emphasize enough how much AI makes absolute garbage games. I could list thousands of examples of how the use of this is destroying the game industry. You older gamers know what I’m talking about. Take a game like (any) Pokémon from the GB, GBA, DS, 3DS for instance. Look at the intricate storylines, battle systems, character development (both the people and Pokémon), side quests, post game story, etc. You have deep, engaging games with heart that are enjoyable and timeless. And look at the junk we have now. Games that are not even finished at release, and DLC is announced before even the main game is out. They can’t even make a whole game anymore and since most of these companies rely on AI for so many aspects of game development instead of actual humans and testing, these game are riddled with bugs too. It’s a disaster.
I bought the base system at a discount, and the physical copy of Mario kart world also on a discount, and spent less than I would have on the “bundle” with their digital game.
Lack of good games is a serious problem. Games are what sell a game system. People are tired of all these remakes and games that simply have a switch 2 upgrade. We don’t mind sequels but they either pushed all the really good games off to next year or just didn’t make them at all. If it wasn’t for backwards compatibility I would have never got the switch 2. It’s been 6.5 months and still my ONLY switch 2 game is Mario kart world. And that’s so boring.
Well that’s an interesting development for the people insisting that we should be buying game key cards. I expect a lot of frustration on Christmas morning for those gifted with those things and not being able to download/store/play those games due to no space and no memory cards. Psst… if the future of gaming is digital, then gaming has no future!
I started a new game of it early this summer and played it like crazy every day till I found out my store couldn’t be upgraded without connecting the game to a friend so it’s on hold for now till I find someone to play it with.
Actually nothing compares to Fantavision on PS2. But yeah that’s not a Nintendo system so Big Bang Mini and Animal Crossing New Horizons are a tie for me on this. Fantavision was so dreamy though. One of my favorite PS2 games.
My tired eyes almost read this as something related to New Leaf coming to switch. Once I started breathing again I realized it was the music app. That’s really nice, because I do love the music from this game. But oh how desperately I wish they’d release this game on Switch. All by itself on a cartridge with switch controls. I don’t even care if they keep the graphics the same. It’s just such a wonderful, cozy, cute game with so much more stuff in it than New Horizons!
I love this game. I played it all summer. Then abruptly stopped when I realized I couldn’t do any more Nook store upgrades until I connected with a friend’s town. No one else plays this anymore! Love so much about the game, but that’s a dumb hindrance to advancing in it. I definitely like the cover art for the North American version much more too but it’s kind of weird too how it emphasizes that when you play, the landscape constantly rolls like you’re on a terrestrial ball. I know they did that in the game due to graphical limitations and it does work, but it’s weird.
So my original New Horizons game from 2020 requires a huge update to get all the stuff they added after release. Will this new cartridge have all that already on there? Most notably the 2021 update?
Here’s the thing… Pokémon means Pocket Monster. They made a big deal about that with the pocket size GameBoy, GBA, DS, 3DS, etc, how you can game on the go, and so it was a perfect pair. You have these pocket monsters to fight, anywhere, anytime, enjoying a full RPG that fits in your pocket. This could never be as treasured on a giant console/TV with all this fancy stuff added to fluff up the game as it was in the simple olden days of whipping out your pocket system and playing Pokémon. So yes, now it’s partly nostalgia that is behind the love for the older games, but also when you look at what they really are, they just have so much strategy as well as imagination which is kind of lost now. I don’t mind the graphical updates, it’s actually kind of cool. But I like the original game format to remain. Give me a HeartGold/SoulSilver with updated graphics and the same exact gameplay as the DS one and I’ll be delighted. But it MUST come with a PokeWalker too, like the original. An actual device not some dumb smartphone app.
I enjoy it but I’d never pay a single penny for it. I just like collecting the cards. If it was on switch as a cartridge game I would have bought it but I don’t like paying for things I can’t keep so I will play for free till it goes away like all other mobile games do.
Someone needs to send this list to GameFreak. Their newest games almost always end up being the least liked. But HeartGold/SoulSilver remain the most loved… and they won’t bring those back! They need to be brought to Switch 2 with upgraded graphics and a device like the PokeWalker that can connect via Bluetooth or the usb port or something. Make that PokeWalker more interactive like the very popular Tamagotchis. This would be the best selling bundle they’ve ever released.
That’s really nice, they should bring back DS games. I have over 430 physical games for DS (plus almost 140 for 3DS) and still play these all the time. The DS family of systems was always my absolute favorite and even 20 years along hasn’t lost a single bit of its charm.
I had preordered that back in August but cancelled it a few weeks later when I saw gameplay videos. Personally I think that game looks awful. So I simply bought a base system without any game.
I paid $369.35 after tax for a Switch 2 console (no Mario Kart), at target last month because of some sale/discount offers I was able to stack. These systems just don’t sell at all here and I think stores are allowing you to get deals on them now just to keep the unsightly dust off of them.
These are not actually selling well at all in the USA. I’ve seen at least a dozen sitting on each shelf at several different popular retailers. Perhaps they should release some games for it. Just a thought!
It’s natural to be skeptical of new leadership but I hope she turns out to be just what Nintendo needs. I don’t like the direction Nintendo has gone in recent years, completely ignoring the girl gamer market. Maybe she will light a fire under Nintendo’s rear and get them to start releasing games that women like such as a new animal crossing game! I’m tired of all these violent and demonic games that seem to dominate anymore. And then we have so much Mario kart shoved down our throats I can’t take it anymore. Please Devon bring back the good stuff that made Nintendo such a treasured brand!
