The Pokémon Company Outlines Fixes For Scarlet & Violet's Next Update

The more updates and patches we heard from Pokemon Scarlet / Violet, the more we see the incompetence of Gamefreak and TPC in handling their Pokemon franchise.

I will be surprised if their competitor from indie developer with their game Nexomon 3 will dethrone the Pokemon popularity with better gameplay and better presentation.

It's ironic to see the AAA company with ultra popular franchise Pokemon got tainted with their lazy effort, while the unpopular indie developer of Nexomon franchise that got the inspiration from Pokemon showed something better than Pokemon games.

Yeah. Their ignorance to the performance of the games really cemented the deal.

Unless they learned their lesson and performance of their next game is as it should be for the biggest profitable franchise in the world, I am not gonna be there for gen X.

I mean, I don’t usually moan about the graphical or performance issues but there’s an area in the dlc where the frame rate really suffers (swamp area).
It’s literally juddered to a stop there before to the point I was worried the game would crash. I think that area needs fixing/patching if possible.

They promised fixes over a year ago and it still runs diabolically so I really wouldn't expect much from this update.

They could have saved themselves a lot of embarrassment by just releasing a proper finished game from the beginning. We would have been happier waiting for that then getting this jumbled mess with all of its half baked updates.

still left uncompleted untill they fix the awful glitching and framerates!! For me, it was a fun game but unplayable with Pokémon's randomly appearing and jarring graphics.

Meh, I don't think they will care to fix the game until Switch 2 comes out. They are way too lazy to optimize it for Switch.

But if that’s the case then Scarlet and Violet will be my final Pokemon games. There are loads of other better games that generate way more satisfaction to me.

Beyond the opening area on day one, I've not had any issues performance wise with my copy. I think the internet has blown it out of all proportion a bit.

That said, a little more effort, little more time in the oven wouldn't do the next games any harm, but I also appreciate that it's not just as keeping the game back, there's the anime, and the merch, and the trading cards, and the tie ins etc etc

Pokemon needs to just ditch open world. They can't do it. I'd love if they went back to maybe just slightly bigger routes, and with more cel shaded graphics.

@Anti-Matter Its foolish to think that any of the indie competitors could "dethrone" Pokemon. Despite having a bunch of technical issues with their 3D games, Pokemon still sells millions of copies each year, something only indie devs could dream of. Its not incompetence that is ruining these games, it is corporate greed, plain and simple. These devs are forced to push out games every year and are on a super time crunch which is why these games come out in the state we see

Remember when they told us patches were coming to fix the actual performance of the game - that's clearly never happening. Gamers really need to hold GF accountable for the products they are putting out and the commitments they are making.

@NinjaWaddleDee the recent Tales of games do just that. They ditched the overworld and opted for big open areas between towns and dungeons

While they run awfully I still find SV very fun to play, just really gel with their gameplay loop. While glitches can be frustrating they don't wreck the experience for me... even if sometimes like when the game softlocks it comes close.

Please hire Bandi Namco (New Pokémon Snap) or Monolith Soft (Xenoblade, Zelda TOTK/BOTW, Splatoon, every other Nintendo IP) to just make the next Pokemon game.

Game Freak has continually expressed they want to make new IPs again and again. Perhaps this is time they relief of themselves from making future mainline Pokemon games and just share in 1/3 of the revenue to make their next Pocket Tiny Town Jockey Hero.

It’s a win-win.

ILCA can move onto remakes of Mystery Dungeons. They are chibi style already. 😉

I'm still playing Pokémon Legends Arceus and the frame rate is just fine.
It's seriously crazy just how superior that game is to the mainline titles made in the last 5-10 years.

They know how to make a game. They're just choosing not to.

@TheMegaMarshtomp I agree with this 100%. GameFreak is capable. They just need to put more care into their mainline games akin to how Arceus looks and feels. Arceus is an amazing jumping off point. Scarlet & Violet and Sword & Shield are not.

@DynamoDouglas Yeah no it’s all very real, I got constant a glitching flickering skybox well after the game released and got stuck out of bounds in a cave. And I’m usually the kind of person who never gets glitches as bad as that.

@Anti-Matter Wow Nexomon 3 looks GREAT! I've been investing hours upon hours into Cassette Beasts personally. It's shockingly well-made and deep. That's my #1 Pokémon replacer right now.

I hate to (continue) beat(ing) the dead horse but no thank you. Played the game and couldn't bring myself to go any further than the first gym. Out of principle, I couldn't play the game for how bad of a state it remains in. I'm the furthest thing from someone who relies on graphics and performance but this is just outright jarring and sloppy. It feels like knockoff of its own series but done by amateurs.

While on the topic, I also despise the art direction they've been going with. I prefer the cell shaded look or the 3DS look. Cartoony but not this weird smooth surface hybrid stuff. Sun/Mon were peak for me: pixel graphics, non-chibi npcs, smooth gameplay, huge Pokédex, no need for HM dedicated Pokémon... It's gone down-hill since... Sword/Shield were great but that's when my burnout hit with the repetitive same gameplay: gyms, trainers, bland time-waste/fluff side-quests... That's why I was so looking forward to Scarlet/Violet because it truly finally shook up the gameplay with an open world.
Fooled me, devs! Fooled me real good and it won't happen again.

Please please please fix synchro to stop shiny ko. I can cope with the poor frame rates I have experienced thus far

Game still runs laggy but the pokemon have never looked better, have you seen blastoise??? Its perfect!

Nobody has, these problems are overblown by people, who usually have not even played the game. Most gamers look for the good in games, and do not obsess like the core minorities.

@Drac_Mazoku Okay I'm curious, do you play only in tv mode? I've played the game portable only and about once every 5 minutes or so the gang will hang for quite literally 1-5 seconds worth of frame drops, so I wanna know your secret.

(And before I get dragged into this dumb argument no I don't think it makes the game unplayable outside of one location in the base game, yes I have constant frame pacing issues any time it rains or I'm on/near water)

There are some of Nexomon fans out there.
I personally enjoyed more the first Nexomon game than Pokemon Violet.

Maybe the situation can be so interesting to see indie developer can dethrone the AAA company for a similar game and once it happened, the world is not the same like used to be.

I'm also thinking about peoples who have moving on from Pokemon franchise due to their disappointment and when they give it a try for similar games and then they like the games, it's like they find something better than Pokemon.

Nexomon 3 will be full 3D and open world style according to their developer. And the game will have a lot of new features and I'm interested to see what will Nexomon 3 bring compared with current Pokemon games.

@Friendly I still consider myself a big Pokemon fan, but I won't settle for half-baked garbage.Had a little FoMO in the early days of Sword & Shield, but quickly got over it, and skipping these past two generations has shown me that I don't need Pokemon. There are too many great games on Switch where you can appreciate the hard work that went into delivering us the best experience possible, and they are more worth your time.

@Anti-Matter Nexomon doesn't have the global merchandising and anime to complete with Pokemon. At best, it would be considered like Yokai Watch, another Pokemon-like game in the minds of consumers. At worst, considering both have mon in their name, consumers will think of it as another Pokemon knock off.

Another reason Nexomon won't overtake Pokemon is that it lacks that IP recognition with parents. They grab Mario, Sonic, Pokemon, Minecraft, etc off the shelves around the year. Sonic routinely sells the best on Nintendo systems because of parents buying for their kids.

The fact that Nexomon will have third game in 3D Open World style, that means Nexomon got recognition by a lot of peoples despite the franchise doesn't have bigger merchandise as Pokemon.
I believe there are some parents or peoples who still want to give credits for something different, not the too mainstream stuffs because being different is good also.
Yokai Watch still have bigger recognition as the franchise have their toys, anime, games, merchandise despite still being less popular than Pokemon.

First reaction though: pop-in issues, stutters and low res are performance issues.

However, I don’t think you’re comparing Pokemon to what it should be compared to. It’s the biggest grossing franchise in the world. They have so much money to spend on the games, but the pokemon company just doesn’t seem to care about their games.

Perhaps you should compare it to a game like Spider-Man, the Last of Us, Zelda, Star Wars or even Metroid Prime Remastered and the differences are glaring. People like me are more complaining because we see those games, we understand that the Pokemon franchise earns more money than these games, and we get sad because of ‘what could / should have been.’ Sword and Shield and Violet and Scarlet are the first mainline home console outings so most expected more.

Compared to other big franchises the state of the Pokemon games is just abysmal in comparison.

Not sure we have any idea how many people are on the "Hate bandwaggon", as you put it. Sure on forums the core are all up in arms, but no real indication of how many people this actually is.

@johnvboy i agree. But it has the lowest metacritic score of all mainline pokemon games.

I think that’s a better metric than the opinions you read on the forums considering the quality of the games.

@Anti-Matter yeah I think your overestimating the general appeal of something like nexomon. I just looked at the games steam page and I don't know how else to tell you but from my observation it look's like it's going to copy S/V. I mean imitation is the sincerest for of flattery but going by the series history on the eshop, It'll probably release at full price and maybe not even weeks later go on sale for almost bargain bin prices like the first two games.

They could of been review bombed, the critics are pretty similar, but yes these score less than Sword and Shield, but still very enjoyable Pokemon games. Perhaps the Switch 2 can do better.

@johnvboy nah, it’s the critics that are lower. No other mainline pokemon game besides emerald got less than an 80. This one got an average of 72.

And it’s not about the switch 2, there are tons of better running games on the switch, also open world games. It’s just about not putting it in the oven for enough time. Because money.

@Anti-Matter Nexomon is great, and definitely better than the recent Pokemon titles. I highly recommend Nexomon 1 & 2 for those who haven't already!

Can't wait! All Pokemon news is good news these days, the franchise is on a hot streak between the success of this Gen and the upcoming Netflix series "Pokemon Concierge" (which looks fantastic).

Just wrapped up Indigo Disk DLC last night, and my GOD are these games good. Loved seeing the return of some of my old favourite mons as well as the new environment of Blueberry Academy.

We're not going to get a performance fix until the Switch 2, and I for one am super excited for Switch 2 Pokemon games! Between PLA and SV, the franchise is looking more beautiful and ambitious than ever, with huge vistas in SV and seamless battling in PLA. Hopefully they marry the strengths from both games for the next one.

I'm always wishing for a Pokemon Legends Celebi, with a heavy Kyoto theme. But perhaps even more, I'm really hoping they give Kalos a proper revisit during the Switch 2's lifespan.

One thing I really want future games to explore is proper environment navigation with any Pokemon I own, not just designated legendaries/rent-a-'Mon. PLA is still leasing Pokemon like Sun/Moon, and SV only has one legendary able to sail and fly. I want to be able to get my own Dragonite out of its Pokeball, jump on his back and fly right off!

I've been playing Pokemon games since Platinum and honestly I love each new generation just a little more than the last. So Scarlet/Violet is my favorite, BUT ..... the performance is just inexcusable. Can't someone from the Zelda BotW/TotK team spend a weekend at Gamefreak and fix the dame framerate and draw distance!?!? lol
