Re: 'Hidden Gems: Volume One' Brings Four Classic Commodore 64 Games To Switch Tomorrow

Jayenkai

Over at AGameAWeek, I used to have a feature called AGameAWeek Gold, where I would (much like this) pluck out some old forgotten gems.
But people hated it. Because I wasn't picking the good stuff like Tetripong, Retro Raider, Alien Deathmatch, SpikeDislike and more, and was instead rummaging through the archive for things like Mr Money Grabber, BeHandy and Monoblast.

I had to drop it as a feature because, even when giving away free games all the time, and even with the solid amount of stinkers that writing at a rate of AGameAWeek brings... Some people just have a threshold for the quality of games they'll put up with.

I played a couple of these BITD.. And that's where they'll stay.

Re: Sonic Superstars Animation Features Fang The Hunter And Newcomer Trip

Jayenkai

I've seen a bunch of these "CD Style" animations since the Mania edition arrived, and each time they've felt like they worked just right. .. but this one.. I'm not sure why, this one feels like it really needed Voice Artists.
Something about it felt really off.
Maybe it's the music? I dunno, it just feels very very silent. And like something important was missing.

Still loved it, though, and the more of these we get, the better.
How cool would it be to be able to actually play something that looks like that?
Cuphead, I suppose..? Or WarioLand Shake It, with its hand drawn style.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Had No Deadline During Its Prototype Phase

Jayenkai

@BTB20 They did? Well, that sounds better, then. Honestly, I prefer not to watch people playing a game. Full of spoilers and stuff. If they want us to see amazing new things, they should kinda put that in the trailer, especially if the trailer is a 15 minute Direct. If they can't showcase "The bits that make this different" in that, then .. ..
I guess that's more of a marketing issue than the game.

My interest wained when they started the presentation with "Look at all these amazing new environments.. ... Grass, Fire, Ice, Desert.." and the whole thing carried on as if all these things were new and amazing things we hadn't seen in the past 170,000 Mario games.
"Look, it's a map you can walk around in!!"
Ugh..

Re: Surprise Surprise, Lenovo's Leaked Handheld Looks Like A Switch

Jayenkai

And I bet the fan screams like a Jumbo Jet engine!

I'd love to get into this current trend of handheld PCs, but .. Man, the fan issue really has to be sorted.
I have a 1st gen GPD Win micro handheld, in a shell not too dissimilar to the 3DS's, and it's a lovely little thing, but I can barely enjoy it over all the fan noise, and apparently that's quiet compared to some of the more recent devices.

Windows on Arm, properly, with proper gfx support and a capable processor that handles it all, can't come quickly enough.

Re: Talking Point: The Games We Got Rid Of - What Were We Thinking?

Jayenkai

I grew up with an Amstrad CPC. Nobody else in my school had one. I kept ALL my games!!! Every single one of them!
.. Come the Playstation Generation, and friends and family one by one borrowed my huge collection, until there was barely anything left. I must've had about 50 or so games at one point. I have 5 now. Beatmania, Parappa, Um Jammer Lammy, Vib Ribbon and Road Rash.. .. Because, back then, nobody understood how cool music games were, so those were the only ones I got to keep.
tsk
Nowdays I'm much more protective over my game collection, and everyone hates me for being "so selfish."
If I had more than 5 Playstation games left, maybe I wouldn't be such a [snip]

Re: Video: What Would A 'Master Mode' In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Be Like?

Jayenkai

Make it so that any other person within your sight will run up to you and start prattling on endlessly, telling you that you still haven't defeated the pirates at Lurelin Village, and asking you if you think their relatives are alright. The difficulty level will be how much A-Button mashing your right joycon can take before it explodes.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Store Your Games Collection?

Jayenkai

LOL, Shoebox of Games. LOL...

We're currently downsizing from the family 3 bedroom large semi-detached home, to a smaller 2 bedroom bungalow, and the amount of game cases that went into a skip last month would shock and stun you all.
Now all my Gameboy/Gameboy Advance/DS/3DS carts are inside those little wallet things, where they take up a whole lot less space!
I kept all my WarioWare cases, though!
Cassette/Floppy/CD/DVD based games can't really be stored like that, though, so I definitely need to install some nice big shelving units once I get to the other side.

Re: Sega Files Logo Trademark For "Sonic & Friends"

Jayenkai

Yeah, my head went straight towards a new multi-franchise kart-racer, until I saw the logo.
That logo looks very child-like.
I wonder if it's something Leapfrog or otherwise targeted? Maybe some edutainment titles for mobile? (Is Leapfrog still a thing?!!)

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Shows Off Returning Characters In Jaw-Dropping New Trailer

Jayenkai

I don't want to be grumpy old man, though I do love being grumpy old man, but in a franchise where some of the characters are near-identical but for their colour scheme, I find it somewhat unnerving that a majority of the actual ingame footage had "fancy" lighting that made the characters colours mostly muted and indistinguishable.
...
/grumpy old man.

Re: Yep, WarioWare: Move It! Is A Direct Follow-Up To Smooth Moves

Jayenkai

I'm a HUGE WarioWare fan, and have owned everything bar the unreleased-over-here Twisted..
But going back to play Smooth Moves after my brain-surgery left me dizzy, unbalanced and I could barely play for more than 5 minutes without getting nauseous.
I hate to even consider this, but.. .. I might not buy this one!!
And that makes me so very very sad.

Re: Anniversary: Two Years On, Here Are Some Amazing Game Builder Garage Creations

Jayenkai

Such amazing content. Bravo to all.
I really really struggled to get into the methodology of this thing. Growing up in the 80s with Basic, through Amos and Blitz, and lately SmileBASIC... I'm a "typing" coder, and the "drag/connect" stuff didn't work for me, but..
Daaang, that's some some great examples of the power that can be accomplished if you know what on Earth you're doing with the tech!
