Hey, Sega.. How about, instead of a monthly subscription, we pay upfront. I'd pay £299 for.. say.. a 4 year subscription to some Sega games. .. Maybe it'd come with a box we can plug into the telly, and a controller or two..? And then start adding new games into the mix. You could even charge extra for those "new" games.. Like maybe £39 for a new game? Gosh, that'd be cool.
I lost my Switch to my Mother, last year, during the house move. (Her ps4 was packed away, she "borrowed" the Switch, and now I don't have a Switch!!)
Apparently "I've" played 273 hours of Puyo Puyo Tetris, this year, and not much else!!
... All year I've been playing the "should I buy a Switch or wait it out for the Switch 2" game.
I remember back in the SNES days when people grumbled about there being way too many Mascot Platformers, and journalists would give anything to kill the genre off, completely. And then Donkey Kong Country happened.
I was just discussing the lack of good videogame music, yesterday. More of that, please! .. And maybe pop the music into the NSO app, along with Ninty's? .. I mean, the Genesis games are part of NSO, so why not the music, too?
If nothing else, can we have FZero GX available..!?
@Clyde_Radcliffe Puyo Puyo Tetris (both of them) has the Ultra mode, too, and has become my new all-time favourite Tetris version. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 even has a multiplayer Ultra mode! Mmmmm....
The website complains if all I say is just o/yeayo/ So I'll pad it all out, even though it's just o/yeayo/ I love Tetris DX, and this brightens my day. So I'll play it all morning, and be happy and o/yeayo/
I did like trying out the Jackbox Party Packs at first, but as a single-player, they're really quite dull.
More YDKJack please! I REALLY loved when they made it a topical Facebook game, right before starting these Party Packs. That was super-awesome. Give us that back. I'd happily pay a subscription for that.
If the "Game", being made up of mostly 8-bit and 16-bit era games, is fairly small... Let's be generous and presume it's about 256Mb.
The file size being over 5Gb is roughly 20 times the size of the game.
On my Switch, right now, the top 18 games are over 1Gb according to the Data Management page. Some as big as 16Gb Golly gosh!! But I have TONS of games under that threshold. And don't forget those NSO emulator bundles, each with loads of games in each collection. Compare and contrast those filesizes with this.
Now, imagine if all of those took up 20 times the necessary space. Imagine that...
I'm not annoyed about having 5Gb games, I'm not "worried" about the storage space. I'm grumbling that the game's taking up WAY more space than the actual game itself should be taking up.
@coolioam I'm of the "options win" mindset. I bet the game totals only a couple of hundred Megabytes or thereabouts. How about a "just the games please" version? But no, everybody gets 5gb of video clogging up their system, and goodness help us all when an update shows up.
Five?!
.. it's got history videos and stuff, hasn't it...? The sort of thing you'll watch once and never again.
Could they not have just streamed those. Could've made a documentary and put it on Netflix. Heck, could've just dumped everything on YouTube so everyone can watch and you get bonus Ad-income.
But no..
Five gigs..
That's just stupid. There's really no good reason for that.
Forgot all about this, but .. Yeah, I think this might explain why I'm finding the new TV I purchased in September to be slightly more difficult to stare at than my previous tellies. It's an OLED screen... Hmmm.
Probably should've remembered about this thread before buying that. Dangit. Thanks @Sketcz!
Yeah, I kinda love the idea of this, but you really do have to wonder.. Why are 90% of these not already on the NSO service?! And the answer is probably "because we can sell this.." So. I dunno. I don't think it's worth complaining. I do love me some Bombliss..
@-wc- Facebook? Honest suggestion. Old schoolfriends who still enjoy games like we do, and that one other person in the family who plays games. .. As a bonus, you get to confuse and frustrate all the other people who follow you just for the cat photos.
@-wc- Yeah, the 8-bit "Hi-Tech" games were really quite impressive for the time and systems they were on. Back in the day, care and attention was given to these characters. It's a real shame that this collection didn't end up being better than it is.
Over at AGameAWeek I've been making silly little mediocre mini games for the better part of 2 decades, now, and in an alarmingly small amount of time, I've seen the AI grow from "It can just about do Pong, barely", to "It can make a game better than I can, within the space of a few seconds.", to "It can make up its own Doom, now, on the spot, in realtime."
For a short while, that was the most disheartening thing I'd ever seen, and really put a damper on what I do. I kinda lost faith in it all, and though I didn't specifically say "Alright, fair enough, game over", I certainly did feel it at points. But I'm a hobbyist, and at the end of the day, I still have the ability to hobby away and make my fun little projects. That's what my mindset is, now. I'll carry on making my little games, because that's what keeps me occupied. My extremely limited audience will likely decrease to myself and My Mum!!! Meh, whatever. It's still fun for me to do this, even if nobody cares about the end result.
But I don't do what I do for the money. And I REALLY do worry about those who do. If your whole livelihood depends on being able to do something that an AI can do with ease, you're going to struggle. And sooner, rather than later. But the genie's out of the bottle. And there's no going back. I think we need a better solution than "Let's try to stop it from taking our jobs." because.. I think it'll likely do that, anyway.
Has anyone else remarked on the fact that an actual dreamcast at launch ($199) would've been cheaper than the $249 for this..? I mean, I know "inflation" and all that, but .. .. That model Dreamcast better be a functional little Micro Console, is all I'm saying.
Funko Pops : Keep them in the box. They're much more valuable that way. ... .. Because you sure can't tell what they're supposed to be without the description on the box.
Nice. I love in-depth content, and am an avid reader of all things retro. I wonder what the write-ups for each item will be like. I hope it delves into things like "this promotional item was created to celebrate the x anniversary of y franchise, which happened on the nth of Monthary." and things like that. Maybe taking a peek into the designers, and maybe even proto-pics and things.
@dojmin I think mine was Burnout Paradise, the first time, when that came out on X360... That's quite a long time ago, and I've not particularly been avoiding them.
I really hope there's something "Nintendo" about this. Right now it does indeed sound very much like they reused a ton of the "Murdered by Covid" Switch Pro features. Nintendo's gotta Nintendo, right!? Back-Compat is one thing, but bring us something new and amazing, too.
I really wish we could do more with these. Hopefully Switch 2 will do a nice menu-mashup between Switch and 3DS's menu systems, so we can earn/purchase beautiful menu themes, and then have these rewards instead of the pin badges that we got from that stupid bunny arcade thing that I hated so bloomin much.
I expect we'll be getting a similar one in other places. They're probably just making it so they can market a singular "Nintendo.com" and have a redirect take folk to the appropriate "/country", easier, without any browser security panicking about a redirect to a different domain.
