Re: 12 Switch Games Are Getting Free Switch 2 Upgrades, Here's What You Can Expect

Jayenkai

I expect in a lot of cases, a simple recompile would do the job. Maybe a few tweaks, like how they'd've optimised the rendering to account for the speed of the system, and would hopefully have defined those settings somewhere easily accessible.

But.. I have a feeling that Nintendo's methodology would make that a tougher job than most people would realise. They really do squeeze every ounce of power out of a system, and that means a ton of tweaks and nips and tucks all over the place, and undoing some of those might unravel a whole myriad of bugs. Game events being locked to "the framerate the Switch can manage", and rendering looking fine when at the slightly lower end, but showing all manner of issues when upscaled.
Things like that.

Good luck to all involved, I say!

Re: Opinion: Oh No, I'm Not A Fan Of Switch 2's Mouse Mode At All

Jayenkai

Reminder : You CAN plug a mouse into your original Switch.
And some games even work with it.
Having a mouse "option" isn't the problem. For me, it's things like...

.. Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S has a mouse mode, because EVERYONE needs a mouse mode for playing that, don't they...

And when I first thought "oh, it'll be ok, 'cos in Handheld mode the mouse controls would be replicated by having the touchscreen", because that made sense.. .. And then that bloomin' Wheelchair Basketball thing happened and I went "Oh, good grief" (but with swearier words)

Since 2012, I've found it hard to sit comfortably at a desk, so have done all my coding/arting/musicaling on my laptop, on the couch or sat in bed. I tried to use a mouse in those situations, but it's just not comfortable to do.
This whole thing smacks of "the developer is sitting at a desk", and reminds me of how we went through a period (and still happens) where the font on the screen is 8pt on a 1080p screen, because the developer is sat right in front of their monitor, and not the one end of the room playing from a sofa to the TV at the other side.

Also, just saying, but if you hold a Joycon between your finger and thumb like a pen... WAY more comfortable. Try it.
If the sensor was in the little diagonal cutout at the "tip" of the joycon... ... ...

Re: Nintendo Drops Teaser Video For The Switch 2's 'C' Button

Jayenkai

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but ... you'd have to turn on the switch 2, (maybe turn on your telly, depending on whether your telly does that) then turn on the switch 1, go back to the switch 2 to hit the C button, then settle down on the couch to play the game.
That doesn't "feel" very Nintendo, to me.

DKGameboy Woohooo!!!

Just imagine if modern remasters were like that, expanding on the original and becoming something more worthwhile, instead of just being "it is the sam, but it can has HD graffix"
All the time and effort these teams put into remaking games. At the very least, add an extra set of levels, or a new map, or extra challenges within the original levels, or something... Anything..
Bowser's Fury is one of the most interesting remakes we've had in recent years. More like that. Come on, Ninty, do cool things again!

Re: Team17 Group Is Rebranding, But The Iconic Name Isn't Disappearing

Jayenkai

Gotta love 'em, but modern Team17 holds as much a place in my heart as modern Codemasters did before they ultimately got EAd to death.
I shall always have fond memories of them, and the hundreds of thousands of hours of play that their games gave to me, but realistically ... that was decades ago.

.. and they never did bring back Arcade Pool.

Farewell, Team17. It's been a beautiful adventure.
