@MamaSymphonia I kinda agree.. Like "screensaver" (nngh) But there were lots of people talking about giving other companies the compression, and such, and that's where I draw the line!!!
There's no clickable "magic me mini" button. It's hard work and effort that keeps the games small.
"Compression" this, "Compression" that.
Some people are obsessed with methods they're used to, instead of thinking ever so slightly outside of the box.
How about.. "Low res textures that get upscaled by the Nvidia AI tech, whilst they're being loaded into memory." and "Shaders are doing a lot of the work on DK, look at his actual texture" and "layers of textures create multiple forms of the same texture in different looking styles", and a myriad of other wonderful methods to keep the overall amount of data to a minimum.
You do the Shake n’ Vac and put the freshness back. Do the Shake n’ Vac and put the freshness back. When your carpet smells fresh, your room does too. Every time you vacuum, remember what to do. Do the Shake n’ Vac and put the freshness back.
Cool. Now can we have an option in the game to turn the bloomin' music OFF, so I can actually play it, with sounds, but without having to hear the stupid music on a continual loop?
Tried my first 100cc today. Didn't think it'd be too drastic of a difference, but it kicked my motion sickness into gear after just a couple of races. 50cc I managed all 4 tracks of a Grand Prix in one go. Had to pause and come back about half an hour later in 100cc mode, but .. yeah, I think I could 100% the game. Eventually! Just.. one Grand Prix a day.
My day one Joycons eventually started to drift after about 5 years. My replacements lasted maybe about a year before the drift kicked in. I was quite miffed about that..
As someone who owns a ROGAlly, I have two things to say.
1. They'd better not "just" have Windows on that, because the second I switched it to SteamDeck, (last Monday!!) the whole system sprang to life, with extra features like the ability to actually USE the sleep mode, and the ability to have it sit in the corner at night, switched on, without the fan waking me up at 3 in the morning for apparently no reason.
and
2. RSI Cramps.. I'm not sure why, maybe the thickness? I haven't experienced it with Switch 1, or even Switch 2 yet, but .. AARGH!!!! It's BAD with the ROGAlly..
LOL @ GameBuilder "As a result of improved processing speed, there may be some changes in behavior in games that were made previously on Nintendo Switch." Time to learn how to deal with different frame rates, mini-devs Coming soon : Multiple Screen Resolution handling!
I wonder how this works.. Is it sharing a mini download like GameShare of old, or is it doing like a mini WiiU, and sharing a stream of a second screen that the system's running in the background....? Maybe a mix of both?
.. And if it is doing a stream, I wonder why we didn't get a "Stream to the Hub from the couch" feature..?
"Aaah, but if we cancel them now, then the customers have to re-order them once we've got the whole tariff price sorted, and then we don't have to offset any losses we'd make!"
Blimey, that's not a horrific price! I'd be tempted if I knew anyone who played Chess.. I still have the Chess set I've had since childhood, and it's still pretty much unplayed. What a waste.
Who's using Shaders for fullscreen effects like that? Nah, you'd just split the image up into RGB textures (three camera, same scene, different colour filter) and blend them together, slightly offset, onto a large sphere to give it curvature.. Add a fourth texture for scanlines and bob's your uncle.
SmileBASIC is still on the "with incompatibilities" list, mostly due to it allowing ToyCon and IR support. If you've coded without those, your games "should" be fine, I think. .. that's gonna be one of the first things I try out, I reckon!
They're probably sick of YouTubers who capture the trailers and stick 'em on their own YouTube channels with their watermarks slapped across them, and ad-revenue being generated, which they're not getting any benefits from. ... I'd imagine.
"You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and content of gameplay animation assets align with the game's vision." ... ...? That's an odd job description? If this were a Mario game, that'd kinda be the thing that Miyamoto does, right? Making sure that the vision is true to form?
Call me cynical, but I'm reading it as "We've got the AI to do most of it, we just need someone to check it looks passable before we hit the release button."
I expect in a lot of cases, a simple recompile would do the job. Maybe a few tweaks, like how they'd've optimised the rendering to account for the speed of the system, and would hopefully have defined those settings somewhere easily accessible.
But.. I have a feeling that Nintendo's methodology would make that a tougher job than most people would realise. They really do squeeze every ounce of power out of a system, and that means a ton of tweaks and nips and tucks all over the place, and undoing some of those might unravel a whole myriad of bugs. Game events being locked to "the framerate the Switch can manage", and rendering looking fine when at the slightly lower end, but showing all manner of issues when upscaled. Things like that.
I'm so looking forward to an era of having a zillion bland ports where the developers don't even bother working on console-standard controls because there's a mouse now. hurray
I still want to know where Alarmo REALLY came from, and what that tech was originally supposed to be. A bog-standard mouse feels like quite the downgrade.

And when I first thought "oh, it'll be ok, 'cos in Handheld mode the mouse controls would be replicated by having the touchscreen", because that made sense.. .. And then that bloomin' Wheelchair Basketball thing happened and I went "Oh, good grief" (but with swearier words)
Since 2012, I've found it hard to sit comfortably at a desk, so have done all my coding/arting/musicaling on my laptop, on the couch or sat in bed. I tried to use a mouse in those situations, but it's just not comfortable to do. This whole thing smacks of "the developer is sitting at a desk", and reminds me of how we went through a period (and still happens) where the font on the screen is 8pt on a 1080p screen, because the developer is sat right in front of their monitor, and not the one end of the room playing from a sofa to the TV at the other side.
Also, just saying, but if you hold a Joycon between your finger and thumb like a pen... WAY more comfortable. Try it. If the sensor was in the little diagonal cutout at the "tip" of the joycon... ... ...
