Re: Valve Confirms It Contacted Nintendo About Dolphin Emulator Coming To Steam

Jayenkai

Excellent job, Valve.
Emulation, cool as it is, is a hot button topic.
Of COURSE there are all the "for" arguments. Preservation, legal backups, etc, but 95% of emulation use is NOT that. And if you're about to at-me and argue the opposite, then you must have the absolute perfect set of friends and family that have never once, ever, asked you "as their friendly computer geek" to download an album/movie for them.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 27th)

Jayenkai

I attempted one of the main "dungeon" things the other day. The end-boss is a dragon like creature that swoops and swirls all around you, and you have to shoot at its hit-points as it swoops up and around and over and under, and you're jumping up and down and flying and shooting arrows and up and down and back and forth and round and round and....

Needless to say, my own personal motion sickness kicked in WAY before I'd managed to get the enemy's health meter down to 50%.
I had to teleport-escape out of there. It wasn't good for me.
And that was only one of the bosses.
I expect I might not ever "finish" this game, like I never "finished" BOTW.
That didn't stop me enjoying (very much enjoying!) over 400 hours of BOTW, but it is somewhat disheartening that I'll never see the ending of either game.

Re: Random: Sony's Upcoming 'Project Q' Is A Little More Wii U Than Switch

Jayenkai

This is exactly what I expected from this device. Essentially a RemotePlay Controller.
What I'm really really hoping for, though, is some sort of cheap bundle.
No way is it ever going to be as low as the WiiU was, but if you can get a cheap'ish pack with the PS5 and this, I'm.. moderately tempted.
But then, I also don't currently own a PS5.
I think, if you already do own a PS5, then just having the normal gamepad and a levitated iPad resting on your knees is more than enough!

(Thoughts of someone who, due to bizarre motion sickness issues, can't play games on a big TV anymore, and has to play either handheld, or on a tablet sized screen.)

Re: Puzzle Bobble Everybubble! "Limited-Time" Demo Arrives On Switch eShop

Jayenkai

@HammerGalladeBro With the demo being Online, it crams all the demo users into a manageable timeframe, and means that, for the most part, there's likely going to be other online players to play against.

If it weren't a limited time, you might have a completely void of no players to play against, then a sudden influx around the holiday period when people have the free time to try it out.
By forcing everyone to play within a limited timeframe, it makes it a better experience. .. In theory, assuming the server can handle it

Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Straight Up Fails In Just One Respect: Accessibility

Jayenkai

Every disability is different, and as a result there should be TONS of options to cater for that, so that the player can decide on what control scheme works best for them. But trying to second guess those disabilities, and trying to presume say that a limited movement means "the player couldn't ever do X/Y/Z", means you aren't really thinking in the mindset of someone who's had to already do that for the past couple of decades, and already knows a way around it. It's a really tough mindset to get into.
I think more options should be given, and maybe in the future of A.I. and such, We'll be in a position that gamedevs CAN allow some sort of automation for certain things.
It's a shame we're not quite there yet.

I make a lot of games that require direction and A or B, often simultaneously, and even I occasionally get myself stuck in the mindset of "What if you can't..?" It's really tricky to think about, and I think perhaps only something that having a disabled person on the team might help to resolve. .. But then, you're only catering for their particular issues, and solutions.

Re: Sega Looks Set To Raise Its Game Prices Up To $70

Jayenkai

I used to love Sega. I really did.
Post Dreamcast, though, the hits petered out, and right now I honestly can't think of a single AAA title of theirs that I'd happily pay that much for.

Bring back the deluge of Dreamcast era games, and I'll dive right in, but modern Sega...?

Re: The Mario Movie Might Be Appearing On Streaming Services Very Soon

Jayenkai

I don't mind paying for things, but I'm not about to spend what will likely be full price to only ever watch it once. No thanks. Even if I inevitably stream a digital version, I'd much rather have it on an account as a paid for product that I keep until the merchant inevitably dies, than only ever get to watch it once.

Re: Talking Point: With One Month 'Til TOTK, What's Left For You To Do In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild?

Jayenkai

I still haven't actually beaten the main game yet.
My motion sickness kicks in every time I have a circular battle, and I really can't force myself to do the big finale, after having struggled so much with it in the other lesser battles.
That hasn't stopped me enjoying the aimless wandering though. Oh, goodness, so much wandering. over 400 hours of exploring.
I really do hope the sequel is worth the cost of entry for me.

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of The Super Mario Bros. Movie Are In

Jayenkai

@DwaynesGames oh, absolutely it can be done well. I love a multi-layered movie where you don't realise those things until the 3rd or 4th sitting because the movie's storyline is so engrossing that you fail to notice such background things.

And I firmly believe that a movie that's been worked on for years should have a little more depth than an episode of a tv show full of Easter eggs (thinking particularly of recent Treks)
If you have the time, money and energy to create a feature film, make it so that I walk out of the cinema talking to my mates about the story that we just experienced.

Re: Random: Metroid Prime's OG Engineer Isn't Happy About The Remastered Doors

Jayenkai

I wonder if the alpha channel for that object is something in the code, or something in the art?
If it's code, then it means the remaster team have overlooked a tiny bit of code somewhere, which makes you wonder what other bits they've overlooked, and how broken the rest of the game is.
It only takes one little variable somewhere, and the whole thing comes crashing down.
Speedrunners are bound to find issues.

If the alpha was in the art, though, then that's an even bigger issue. Hopefully they didn't mess up any more alpha textures, because if this one's as obvious as it is, then.. .. Eeek!
