The Switch 2 has DLSS, though, doesn't it? If reduced resolution increases the frame rate, should the game not be running lower and using DLSS? Or does that not work in handheld, or something? (Honestly asking, no idea.)
.. Is that all? What are they up to, now? I know village was 11.. And there's been remakes galore.. Let's call it 20. And that's 20 flat, not counting ports. So, being really insanely generous.. Only 10 million per game?
That .. That doesn't seem a lot. Does that seem low to anyone else? What numbers to typical games get, nowadays?
Finally bought the game over the weekend, and spent ages lighting up "can't remember the name of that dark town", using utility poles and hooking up everything I could. That was fun.
... Then triggered off the events where "omg! Let's light up the town", and had to go through stupid amounts of completely worthless "look over here, it's a utility pole. What could you do with that?!" and "OMG! It's a Water Wheel!!!" and "Gosh, we could wire everything up" and "Oh, wow, a street light.. But it isn't powered!" and more...
Could they not have "You've already done this" checks at the start of the dialogue.. Skip it... Skip it all!! I've done that! RAWR!!!!
We need simpler remakes. Put these devs to work on 8-bit > HD Remakes, .. Even better, put them to work on making new levels/experiences based on those, too. Smaller jobs, more frequent output.. Right? Am I right? I'm probably wrong, but classic 2D games as 2.5D/HD remakes would "probably" be simpler. Game-dependent, obv. But, new from old, instead of "it's the same but cleaner"
More of that. If 66 people got laid off last time, and presumably another hefty chunk now. Imagine what those people could've achieved...
In an era where Hamster gets away with "Here's another single ROM with nothing new", I yearn for actual effort.

"Let's make a nice relaxing theme with nice relaxing SMGalaxy music, nice and soothing, aaaah" ... "I KNOW! Let's make the drop sound the most obnoxious CLANK we can find!!!"
Do remember that the PS5 and XboxWhateveritis both came out at the end of 2020, during the year of Covid, just as all the price horrors were starting. If you consider the changes in tech prices since THEN, then it's no surprise this has had to have happened. I think Switch 2 should be "ok" for a while.
It's lovely that so many racing/kart games get this treatment. And we've had Beat'em'ups do this, too. .. But can someone finally do a "buttload of characters from all over the IP-o-sphere" Platform game, now, please?!! Especially with all these lovely varied worlds to explore.
I did enjoy the basic concept of Mario vs DK, taking the puzzle/platformer of GameBoy DK and amplifying it with an almost Lemmings-like mechanic.
BUT.. They didn't do anything different than that in future instalments. It's like they got stuck with the Minis and never quite got out of it. Could've been a whole series of different puzzle mechanics for each game, but instead, future games in the series were stunted. Bah, humbug, etc.
It still ticks me off when, during a particularly mysterious event in Stargate Atlantis's original run, the Gateworld news site had pretty dang spoilery "Next time..." thing, right on their front page, minutes after the episode aired. It put me right off ever visiting fan-sites for TV shows.
I don't mind "tidbits" that keep you interested, but spoilers that ruin (or .. literally spoil!) a reveal are a whole other level of spoil. Boooo... Death to them all!
LOL.. I noticed the "Timmy and Tommy wander away" thing, yesterday. There was a tourist in the shop, so I presumed they'd added extra code so the brothers took care of other customers instead of just me. .. Didn't even consider that it might be a bug!
Dear NMS, I am currently paying off another loan on my house. Mr Nook drives a hard bargain. I will return to my ship once I have harvested enough fruit from trees. See you soon. Lots of love, Jay
I've always loved the "idea" of a Zelda game, but every time I've tried to play one I kinda trailed off after about an hour or so. I just don't have it in me to bother with storylines in games. Gimme gameplay, focus on that. But I did love BOTW/TOTK, so much that I ended up with hundreds of hours of each.
Having said that, I know that my opinion is NOT the norm, and as much as I'd love another "roam-em-up", I don't think that's the right idea for a Zelda game. None of the other games have really been like that, and as much fun as it was to have this excursion, I think we should probably go back to what we had before. It won't be for me. But it will be truer to the series.
(Though... .. I wouldn't complain if there was a "Free Roam" option on the titlescreen..)
If this were released in time for Xmas, it'd have been one mighty fine Family game. I bet kids would love this, though. And maybe that's the target, not us.
After my horrific brain-surgery, I thought that something calming like a 3D printer and miniature paints would be an awesome way to pass the time. It ended up not being, as shaky hands and miniature painting REALLY don't go well together. Bah, humbug, etc. My time with 3D printing was minimal, and I ultimately gave up, mostly out of how depressed it made me when I realised I'd lost a skill I once loved.
But I did at least take the time to create https://pixelcubes.art/ which can take a low-resolution 2D sprite, extrude it into cubes, let you change the levels that colours extrude to, then export that as a .stl file (or multicolour .stl files, or .obj files) which you can load into your slicer and ultimately print out 3D models with.
So, there's that, I suppose. Just be sure you've a steady hand for painting them afterwards, or it looks awful.
Yeah, where's Rhythm Whatevery on the list. That's definitely my most excited for game. Unless somehow we get a new Parappa. .. And that's really not likely for multiple reasons (one of which is, it's Sony's, but in this day and age, multi-platform is apparently the way to go for Sony + Microsoft)
@PtM It really is. It's totally messed up. I'm in the position of "just on my own, making silly web games", but even I'm looking at this and going "dang, I'll be completely unnecessary in the next couple of years!!"
"This won't replace artists or take jobs away, don't be silly." ^^ This.. Although, if we're honest, it's the Higher-ups thinking it CAN, that's the problem. I do like the idea of "as a tool", in places. Like instead of Proc-Gen'ing a Rogue-like, you might use AI to more intelligently generate worlds, But, to me, half the fun of coding a Rogue-like is.. .. actually coding that bit! A.I. background NPCs would be nice. Instead of all the NPCs being mindless repetition-boxes that spout the same 2 lines of dialogue repeatedly. I honestly wouldn't argue with that. I know it's really hard to make that many NPCs, and trying to script it all can be a nightmare. Focus on the game, get that done, then maybe use this sort of tech where it's legitimately outside of the standard scope of things.
Imagine how crazy it would be if you COULD walk into the 98% of closed buildings in your favourite game!
@Anti-Matter .. I know THAT..!! Previously had TL on 3ds, and it was fun building the town, adding all the characters, etc.
What I meant was, both games are "daily" games. You're going to have to set aside "ten minutes" (which we all know ends up being at least an hour!) each day, and I haven't got enough hours in the day to be doing that with BOTH games. At the same time.
Last trip to a GAME store for me was the end of Feb2012. Bought Sonic generations (X360) using a birthday voucher from my sister. I've been digital ever since.
I was actually looking forward to this, but .. the thing is.. .. I've just started replaying Animal Crossing, and this is kinda really similar, isn't it.? Hmm...
I can imagine a GTA release on Switch, with a physical handwritten letter to parents, stapled to the cover, explaining how violent and unsuitable the game might be for kiddies.
... and then the parents giving the game to 10-year-olds anyway.
Yeah, moderation.
And "It's not just games on a computer", too. That's important.
There are writing tools, art tools, music tools and more.
Let the kids "play" with those a bit more.
I grew up in the 80s, on British Home Computers and £2.99 budget games, when the sprites were not 100% all that!
Certainly didn't stunt my imagination any, nor did the complete lack of storyline in the games I played.
If anything, my imagination still hasn't stopped whizzing away, 40 years later!
Social skills, though. Eeek.
But I think I crawled into my computer-wonderland mostly because I already didn't have any Social Skills in the first place.
And that's a whole other argument.
DO let the kids play. Play is part of your imagination.
Just make sure the games are age-appropriate.
I restarted from scratch. It might be lacking "big" improvements, but AC's always more fun when you play it from the start. I've already got a house! WOWIE!!
I love that they've come out and said this. It's not very often big companies will admit something like this, and it's incredibly rare for that to be Nintendo. "It took us too long, we know it took us too long, and this is what happens when things take too long." Bravo for saying that, Ninty. The next big hurdle is figuring out how to reduce that time, without pressure, without stress, and presumably without AI. I trust Ninty to learn from this.
