Re: Romero Games Reportedly Shut Down Following Xbox Layoffs

Jayenkai

My heart sinks when I read this sort of stuff, and the past few days has been nothing short of horrific, with SO many more than just Romero's team getting disbanded. It's shocking what Microsoft have done to the industry as a whole.
D'you remember when Microsoft announced the Xbox, all those years ago, and there was a general consensus of "Microsoft doing games...? Nah!!"
But they proved us wrong, and Xbox 1 (the first one 1, not the second one 1) and 360 really were cracking systems with some amazing games.

I don't want to blame the entire shambles on their console naming scheme, but .. .. I also kinda do!

Re: Switch 2 Users Are Reporting Instances Of Their Consoles Overheating

Jayenkai

Is this possibly a "playing handheld whilst plugged in using a high powered charger" issue, because even my iPad gets super toasty like that. If you can use a lower than usual charger, like your old Switch 1 adapter, maybe see how it does with that. The charge might not hold for "hours and hours" but should at least cope with the amount of time you're likely to play for.

Re: Worms Armageddon On Switch Is Slowly Becoming The Ultimate Series Celebration

Worms World Party on GBA... Is that the one where, upon first play, and my worm fell through the floor.. so I complained on their forum, only to have someone ask me if I knew how hard it was to write games, (.. me?!!) and I replied with "It shouldn't be hard to not make characters fall through the floor, especially when one of the goals of the game is to try to not land in the water."
... And then got banned from their forum..

... is it that one?

On the one hand, evil, rawr, etc.
But on the other hand. .. Have you guys ever read the blurb at the bottom of any of their emails? I kinda think this might just be their sense of humour being taken out of context.
Any "you're holding it wrong" comments were probably accompanied by "but we'll give you a refund if it matters that much" kind of snarky comment. I'd imagine..
I dunno. Having read a number of the email blurbs, I can imagine that being the case.

Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Donkey Kong Bananza's Switch 2 File Size

"Compression" this, "Compression" that.
Some people are obsessed with methods they're used to, instead of thinking ever so slightly outside of the box.

How about.. "Low res textures that get upscaled by the Nvidia AI tech, whilst they're being loaded into memory." and "Shaders are doing a lot of the work on DK, look at his actual texture" and "layers of textures create multiple forms of the same texture in different looking styles", and a myriad of other wonderful methods to keep the overall amount of data to a minimum.

Why must it always be about compression?!

Re: Xbox Officially Enters The Handheld Space, But Nintendo Won't Be Worried

As someone who owns a ROGAlly, I have two things to say.

1. They'd better not "just" have Windows on that, because the second I switched it to SteamDeck, (last Monday!!) the whole system sprang to life, with extra features like the ability to actually USE the sleep mode, and the ability to have it sit in the corner at night, switched on, without the fan waking me up at 3 in the morning for apparently no reason.

and
2. RSI Cramps.. I'm not sure why, maybe the thickness? I haven't experienced it with Switch 1, or even Switch 2 yet, but .. AARGH!!!! It's BAD with the ROGAlly..

Re: Fear Not, Using GameShare Between Switch 1 & 2 Looks Super Simple

Jayenkai

I wonder how this works.. Is it sharing a mini download like GameShare of old, or is it doing like a mini WiiU, and sharing a stream of a second screen that the system's running in the background....? Maybe a mix of both?

.. And if it is doing a stream, I wonder why we didn't get a "Stream to the Hub from the couch" feature..?

Re: Mario + Rabbids Dev Is Hiring For A New 'AAA' Rayman Game

"You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and content of gameplay animation assets align with the game's vision."
...
...? That's an odd job description?
If this were a Mario game, that'd kinda be the thing that Miyamoto does, right? Making sure that the vision is true to form?

Call me cynical, but I'm reading it as "We've got the AI to do most of it, we just need someone to check it looks passable before we hit the release button."
