Re: Embracer Group Reportedly Looking To Sell Borderlands Dev Gearbox Entertainment

JayJ

@RobynAlecksys In a world where Sony is getting aggressive about pushing live services and jacking up the prices for their services while Nintendo is still using outdated mobile hardware exclusively, I would hardly call Xbox the worst thing to happen to gaming these days. If anything Microsoft is one of the few things keeping it from being a total joke with Sony just having a monopoly on home consoles, which would absolutely ruin the industry seeing how anti-consumer they have become lately.

Re: Nintendo Announces Mario Red Edition Switch OLED, Out October

JayJ

@Tyranexx Yeah I think the rev 2 Switch leaves little to desire, and as someone who has a nice OLED TV, the OLED handheld screen hasn't been a big selling point. That said I usually buy myself a late/last example of a console I liked before they end production or move on to the next one. I just have to ask myself if I really want another Switch, but luckily the price of 1TB micro-SD's has fallen to where it won't be too expensive of a proposition.

Re: Nintendo Announces Mario Red Edition Switch OLED, Out October

JayJ

I honestly really like the subtlety of this one. Stuff like the Zelda edition are a bit too flashy/gaudy for me these days. The Animal Crossing edition was ideal to me before this, as it just had a nice subtle look to it.

With this, it's just a nice clean solid red look. I might have to go for it as my late OLED Switch, as I held off on buying an OLED since I already had a rev 1 and 2 Switch along with 2 Lites.

Re: Feature: Meet The Virtual Boy Fan Making New Tech And Games For Nintendo's Console Curio

JayJ

I remember how interesting this always was, just so unique from everything else. That said I think there is a good reason I never bought one, I just never liked the monotone red and how you have to use the special display with it's awkward stand setup.

The controller was always one of those interesting and awkward looking controllers though with it's dual d-pads, I was always curious to how that worked and if any games actually used the both of them.

Re: Talking Point: The Games We Got Rid Of - What Were We Thinking?

JayJ

I only sold stuff when I was a kid, and it was mostly just some of my old Game Boy games and consoles as they were always worth a lot more than disc games. That said I kept a lot of stuff and never really sold much from my home consoles, I still got all of my original N64 games. I think only thing I gave away was my Gamecube and PSP, the Gamecube was the only one I sort of regretted giving away but I did buy another back before the prices blew up and I didn't give away all my games and ended up building up a bigger and better collection a while back before the game prices really blew up as well. As for the PSP, that went to the kid brother of a good friend of mine that I always liked, so no regrets there, and it's become an easy platform to emulate on modern handhelds. That said I still got my PSP Go and both generations of the Vita, all loaded with digital games.

So yeah, I sold some stuff I might have regretted today if it wasn't for how I was really into collecting video games and consoles for a while back when the hobby was a lot cheaper.

Re: Red Dead Redemption's Estimated File Size Revealed On The Switch eShop

JayJ

@OrtadragoonX I stopped getting NBA 2K games after 19 because they got too big. I think that was the last release that felt reasonable to me, after that they essentially doubled the file size and it only kept increasing. Thing is I have no idea why, because I can hardly tell a difference where it matters when comparing 19 to later releases.

Similar deals as well, I'm a huge Warriors fan but I have my limits and following the latest season simply isn't worth what they're charging and more importantly how much space it occupies. It's at the point where you really need to be dedicated in order to justify having the latest NBA 2K on a console.

Re: Red Dead Redemption Fans Aren't Happy About Rockstar's "Lazy Port"

JayJ

I leaned my lesson with the GTA Trilogy, and while I eventually considered that a worthwhile purchase for the Switch, there is a good reason why I never bought it on a different platform. As for RDR, I simply have no desire to play it on the go, it's not the kind of game that stands out as something I would want to have on a handheld. This port seems typically lazy for Rockstar these days, and I already got the game with it's DLC on a Xbox One X where they gave it some 4K enhancement.

Re: Review: Venba – A Narrative Cooking Game That Goes Down A Treat

JayJ

@Princess_Lilly I suppose you're right, but this game is very niche, I think the "not for everybody" label is necessary for a lot of indie games like this for the same reason a lot of modern art might not be for everyone. It's like this is definitely made to appeal to a specific audience, and a niche audience. It is one of those things to keep in mind when it comes to indie games like this, as they are often short experiences and not really the type of gaming most people go for.

Re: Front Mission 2: Remake Showcases Features In New Switch Trailer

JayJ

@XiaoShao Yeah the problem that I got if how there has been better and improved turn based strategy games with mechs since these games released. Like I think this series was simply a lot more appealing to me in the past when it was more of a unique concept, now it just feels like a really dated offering in a niche genre.

Re: Switch Online N64 Controllers Are Back In Stock Now

JayJ

@Chibi_Manny "drifting" was a part of the authentic N64 experience. Kids these days have no clue how bad it was on those original controllers, some heavily used ones would literally be so loose it would almost freely roll around the edges.

Re: Switch Online N64 Controllers Are Back In Stock Now

JayJ

@Switch_Pro Yeah I agree, I feel like I have hardly used the N64 app simply because I have been lacking the N64 controller. I could never understand why so many people seem to hate on it, it's honestly been one of my all time favorite controllers. There's just something about it, the unique feel it has. N64 games just don't feel the same without it.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of AEW: Fight Forever

JayJ

I knew this would be without a doubt a Series X/PS5 game for me. I already have Wrestling Empire on the Switch which is a far better game for this console, heck I would say it's pretty much meant for it. I think the new AEW game is great, but it's definitely a lot better on a next gen console.
