Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite 3DS Model?

JayJ

New 3DS XL is obviously the best one I got, it has the best hardware and improved 3D. Then it's probably the OG launch model, there's something about it that always felt higher quality over the original XL and it had a nice form factor. Honorable mention goes to the standard 2DS, that was cool design and throwback to the old Game Boy.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Virtual Boy Game Ranked

The virtual boy library is basically full of tech demos. Seems like Wario Land is one of the few serious titles and I would honestly much rather just play that without the forced 3D visor deal in black and white. The black and red is just harsh looking, it's no wonder it gives people headaches.

I still think it's just such a shame they never released these games on 3DS, a console that would have been perfectly suited to playing these games better than the original hardware design.

Re: Review: Virtual Boy For Switch 1 & 2 - Is It Really Worth Revisting Nintendo's Greatest Folly?

JayJ

Virtual Boy seems to be as much of a gimmick today as it was when it released. This really feels like it's just a Nintendo enthusiast curiosity, making the Virtual Boy something that people can easily experience. I think it's definitely just a curiosity though, I have bought stuff like this when I was collecting retro gaming stuff, things that are neat and interesting but not something I ever really used after I checked it out.

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate The Nintendo Classics Virtual Boy Launch Games?

JayJ

I think this would have been a lot cooler if they gave us the option to play these games in 2D full screen. I already tried that out by simply only looking at one of the two screens without any accessory and the games are very playable without the 3D effect. That said I deleted the app after because it's a terrible way to play games.

I honestly think they force the 3D just to sell us on the accessories.

Re: Ren & Stimpy Are Getting A 7-Game Retro Collection, Courtesy Of Limited Run

LGR has been pumping out a lot of these very mediocre collections of old licensed IP games. The emulation is usually good but the games themselves are very mediocre, like these aren't a highlight selection of classics, more so the games most people forgot about for good reasons.

Seems like they have been focused on a lot of stuff from Nickelodeon and Universal, and their games were never really anything special.

Re: Review: Mario Tennis Fever (Switch 2) - Slim For Singles, But An Addictive Core Gives It Online Legs

Playing this I was impressed by how good and smooth it looks, but when I tried playing some exhibition matches without the gimmick rackets, it really shows off how dependent this game is upon those gimmicks. Like the two hardest difficulty AI's are basically impossible to beat without them. It's like you can never really hit shots that push the boundaries, and you will just get locked into an infinite rally where the AI can just always hit anything you throw at it.

Re: Review: Carmageddon: Rogue Shift (Switch 2) - A Destructive, Roguelite Wreck Fest That Runs Out Of Road

JayJ

This feels like one of those games that should have been called something else but they went with a well established IP because they needed that to help sell it. This is just a completely different game from what Carmageddon games were (at least the fun ones).

The move to zombies reminds me of the worst entry, Carmageddon 64. The Switch 2 version of this game has a lot in common with that thanks to it running at an apparently unstable 30fps, so it doesn't even perform well.

I wanted to get this initially but I just can't. This is one of those games where it's a maybe if it's on sale with a big discount.

Re: NYXI's Hyperion 3 Is, On Paper, The Perfect Joy-Con 2 Alternative

This is basically what I've been asking for. Something that is more comfortable than the standard joycons that can genuinely replace them for handheld gaming with rumble and a traditional d-pad. Some things came close on the Switch 1 but they always lacked essential features like HD rumble.
