Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Busier Hyrule Is Making Me Miss BOTW

Great article, one of the few I fully read around here and happen to totally agree with. It's about the nicest way of saying "TotK isn't as good," and that's all down to personal preference.

I think sometimes, we have so much pressure to love the latest hot new game, that it takes a bit of courage, or some good explanation, to address how it might not be as great of an experience as some make it out to be. Once again, that's kind of down to personal preferences.

I think I can relate to the writer here as I too just get overwhelmed by these open world games these days that just try to throw as much at you as possible. That, and I just don't have the time to be dedicating to these games that they seem to demand. Like my main interest isn't games like this, it's usually games like GT7, Forza Horizon 5, and Session that get my consistent interest. Games like this tend to be more or less just a distraction for me, something different for me to get into, between racing game and sports game sessions. I mean I just really enjoy video games and checking them out, but with TotK, it feels like something that I have largely already seen before.

Re: Switch Online's N64 App Has Been Updated (Version 2.10.1)

@Roibeard64 The way I always look at it is that it's hard to claim someone is stealing something when it's not being taken away from anyone and it isn't being sold anymore. Not that I'm saying go out and pirate stuff, but if these companies want to be making an argument that people are stealing video games when they download them, well then they ought to be available for purchase.

It's like I don't doubt for a second that someone is stealing if they pirate a Switch game, because they are still being sold new and anyone can download them legally if they have the money. However, when you have these old games that haven't been sold anywhere forever, where piracy is the only alternative to paying some private seller a small fortune for it on Ebay, there becomes a good argument for preservation and public access.

Re: As Switch Momentum Slows, Nintendo Expects Further Sales Decline Next Year

JayJ

Knew this would happen if they kept being complacent with outdated hardware.

I remember fans telling me "it doesn't need an upgrade, it's still selling great, sales aren't slowing down" and then they tried to act like I was trolling when I said it desperately needs an upgrade or successor before long.

Well here we are, no upgrade or successor, and sales are hitting a real slump, and only going down further.

Re: Microsoft's Activision Blizzard Acquisition Has Been Officially Blocked In The UK

@RainbowStarFlower Sorry but today has objectively proven you wrong on all accounts, and it's blatantly obvious how you are just a Sony fanboy trying to defend their ruthless industry monopolization tactics as they further expand their dominant marketshare advantage over all competition.

Sony personally killed any chance of COD coming to a Nintendo platform today: fact. I have no reason to celebrate a Sony victory that costs me any chance of being able to play a Call of Duty title on a Nintendo platform.

Re: Microsoft's Activision Blizzard Acquisition Has Been Officially Blocked In The UK

JayJ

@RainbowStarFlower Sony is by far the closest thing the gaming industry has to a monopoly right now, and today has proved that as a fact. They have by far the biggest marketshare: fact. They have control over regulators and can make them block competitors deals if they start to threaten their industry lead: fact. They are aggressively buying up smaller studios: fact.

Face it, Sony are not the good guys anymore. They're the ruthless business that is out to dominate everything for themselves and force anti-consumer conditions because why should they try or care anymore? When one company can dominate an entire industry, it's the people who lose.

Re: Microsoft's Activision Blizzard Acquisition Has Been Officially Blocked In The UK

JayJ

@IndoorEnthusiast Except for the fact that the Microsoft deal was the only reason they ever made any intention to release COD on the Switch. Thanks to Sony's ruthless monopolization tactics, where they will get regulators to shut down any deals that might threaten their industry domination, Nintendo will no longer get a COD, because the proposal that would have made Activision do that no longer exists.

Why would you expect Activision to suddenly start releasing COD with Nintendo without any incentive? Sony wanted to ruin this deal for everyone so they could capitalize on it themselves.

Re: Microsoft's Activision Blizzard Acquisition Has Been Officially Blocked In The UK

JayJ

@Edu23XWiiU It's funny how Nintendo fans have been trying to sit this one out, but we've all been dragged into it now thanks to the way COD was going to come to Switch if this deal happened. So basically Sony's ruthlessness and anti-consumer tactics have resulted in them hurting Switch fans in their effort to hurt Xbox.

I guess that's when you know things have become serious, and how Sony has become a tyrannical force in the industry that won't stop with Xbox.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp

@bonjong23 Yeah, especially given how cartoonish it all is in this series, it's hardly the most graphic depiction of war out there. If you want to get into the "making something that could be gruesome look nicer with it's cartoony art style" argument, you could say the same thing about Super Mario games how he goes around stomping his enemies to death and incinerating them with fireballs. At the end of the day these are just video games and you have to ask what their goal is for them. Can't have them just being about holding hands and singing about rainbows and unicorns.

Re: New No Man's Sky Update Flies Onto Switch Soon, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

JayJ

@antisumo Yeah the support for this game across all platforms has been nothing short of impressive. Heck there is so much that has changed since I originally played the launch version on PS4, it's almost like I'm playing a sequel by now. It's also one of those games like GTAV where it's spanned generations for me by now, where I just play it on Series X, PS5, and Steam Deck, and won't even bother with it on last gen consoles anymore.

This Switch version is basically one of those miracle port games, where I am surprised they actually got it to run and work.

Re: Feature: Call Of Duty On Nintendo Systems - A Brief History

JayJ

@Hunter-D Last time I played COD was Black Ops 2 on the Wii U. I think Ghosts was the first "next gen" COD at the time, for Xbox One and PS4 consoles, while Black Ops 2 was just a 360 or PS3 title otherwise. The Wii U version is probably the best way to play it, even though it lacked the DLC. The online community was always smaller but dedicated, some people kept playing that long after everyone probably moved on from the other platforms.
