Re: Talking Point: With Bigger GameCube File Sizes, Should Nintendo Let Us Download Individual NSO Games?

JayJ

This is the problem with the app approach to retro gaming by the time it reaches this generation. It's easy to just put a bunch of roms in an app when all it's got is SNES, Game Boy, or N64 games as they don't take up much space. However by the time it gets to the Gamecube generation games got massively larger in size and such an approach quickly stops making sense.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Pulled Amazon US' Switch 2 Sales After Beef Over "Unauthorised" Sellers

JayJ

@TheExile285 Yup same. Amazon just doesn't seem to be a good place to buy serious electronics hardware. Their delivery of such items can leave a lot to be desired, they rarely seem to have Nintendo stuff available, and too often there will be sketchy 3'rd party sellers selling stuff. With Best Buy I know I'm buying it from them and I can just drive out to my local store about 10 minutes away and pick up whatever they have in stock. They were great for the Switch 2 launch as well, opened the store at midnight for people to collect their orders and it went real quick and smoothly.

Re: Of Course Mario Kart World Is Being Review Bombed

JayJ

@RupeeClock Yeah I can totally understand why some people would do this and I also find it funny how quick video games journalism can be to point out "review bombing" while completely ignoring the complete opposite where a bunch of shills and bots flood the user reviews with 10's which seems to happen quite often when it comes to big AAA releases.

Honestly all the score manipulation and the way everyone seems to leave either 10's or 0's has made me very dismissive of metacritic scores. Doesn't help how the average, niche, and small market games can often wind up with no reviews at all over there. Personally I just watch some videos on youtube and don't concern myself with number scores.

Re: Nintendo Today Video Showcases The New Switch 2 Pro Controller

JayJ

@Scollurio Yeah I feel like fighting games is one of the worst examples anyone could go off. First off the joycons have always been AWFUL for 2D fighters, the 4 directional buttons just don't work well at all as a d-pad replacement for complex inputs. Then there's the fact that most modern fighting games don't even use more than 4 buttons anymore, and the ones that do are games like Street Fighter where you won't be competitive online without an arcade stick or dedicated fighting game controller that has 6 face buttons and a proper d-pad.

Any way you put it, no demands for fighting games will be restricted by having analog triggers. Even triggers can be turned into digital buttons with alternative controllers like arcade sticks. Meanwhile by not having analog triggers, anything that uses them or was originally designed with having them will simply never be properly compatible. It's like analog can always be turned into digital, but you can't make buttons analog that were originally intended to be digital, the way the console reads the inputs simply won't allow for that. It also seems foolish to discard analog triggers by claiming only racing games use them, there is no shortage of games across a wide variety of genres that seem to make good use of them now a days, especially since Sony introduced the dualsense triggers. Not having anything to compete with that does feel like an obvious major loss when it comes to PS5 vs Switch 2 comparisons.

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?

JayJ

Why bother with having physical cards if I will need to download the games digitally off them anyways? This reminds me of why I stopped buying game discs, they became little more than piece of plastic you have to put in a disc drive for DRM purposes. By the time I am being forced to download all the game data I am sticking to digital sales.

Re: Nintendo Today Video Showcases The New Switch 2 Pro Controller

JayJ

@Scollurio Yeah I just really don't get why they don't think we can use analog triggers on a handheld. Seems to work great on my Steam Deck.

It just seems like such a needlessly stubborn decision on their end. It's like they just have to be the only company out there opposed to analog triggers for some reason, while the rest of the world has moved on, embraced them, and even enhanced them with feedback to make gaming more immersive, Nintendo is out here shouting a loud NO, saying keep it 4 simple old fashioned shoulder buttons instead. I don't think anyone else could get away with that.

Re: Nintendo Today Video Showcases The New Switch 2 Pro Controller

JayJ

@8bit-Man Yeah Nintendo's continued opposition to analog triggers is very confusing by this point, especially with their apparent focus on trying to make Gamecube a big part of the Switch 2 experience.

As for this controller, I just don't see the need for it over an the original controller, it just looks like an improved version of that.

Re: Poll: Which Switch 2 Accessories Are You Picking Up At Launch?

JayJ

Honestly nothing. I am going to see if I actually get one first, then I will probably only get a case for it and a screen protector and eventually an SD card. The way the Switch 2 is coming from the factory I should have enough storage to last me the early launch era and I doubt I will even dock it.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Manage To Get A Switch 2 Pre-Order In? (North America)

JayJ

Yeah got the Switch 2 with Mario Kart bundle from Best Buy, I was just on the site checking it out at the right time last night. I would prefer to do a store pickup and I like their stores a lot better than Gamestop. Hard to trust most deliveries with a console launch like this, handhelds are too easily stolen and everyone knows what's delivering that date.

Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers

JayJ

@Ryu_Niiyama We're talking about a handheld. Bring up alternative controllers, racing wheels, flight sticks, and arcade sticks seems to miss the entire point of how people use handhelds and ignore the entire convenience factor for using them. Analog triggers have long been an industry standard and it's a lot more convenient for a handheld to simply have them. If you're going to use stuff like racing wheels and flight sticks why even have a console handheld in the first place? Why not just focus entirely on home consoles or a gaming PC?

Re: Gallery: Here's Switch 2 Compared To (Almost) Every Other Handheld

JayJ

@8bit-Man The portability argument is the main thing working against the Switch 2 right now IMO. The fact that they battery life took such a big hit is a major blow to the main reason I still liked using my Switch 1 over a Steam Deck as a go anywhere travel console. Now it's like I might as well just take a Steam Deck.

Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers

JayJ

This is probably the #1 reason why I don't care about the Switch 2 anymore. They desperately needed to add analog triggers, it's simply an industry standard and most games today are made knowing they're there. If they want their console to be taken seriously as something that's just as capable of playing all the ports and AAA games as Playstation/Xbox it's needed, especially when it comes to certain genres of games that a lot of people happen to be fans of. Otherwise it's like I might as well just stick with my Steam Deck.

Heck Playstation has the best approach for people who like better response with their adaptive triggers, they can be as clicky as you like and it really adds to the immersion. Simply put the industry has evolved to where it's no longer acceptable to be missing them.
