Yeah I've had this one pre-ordered for a while, I'm always up for a strategy RPG. This one's got a lot characters too which is always something I enjoy.
Same as last week, Fire Emblem Binding Blade (hard mode) with a little bit of Tekken 8 online matches here and there against randos and friends.
I'm up to Chapter 18 in Fire Emblem now and have reached the game's 2nd route split. I've only ever played through the game once before so I'm now in completely unknown territory, since obviously I wanted to go for the other route this time to visit the snowy lands of Ilia.
In Tekken 8 I managed to reach up to rank of "Vanquisher" nabbing some wins from players clearly more skillful than myself but I guess they just couldn't deal with the bs tactics Asuka (my main) employs. I'm also attempting to pick up another character for a secondary and I went for Zafina, a much tougher character but she's cool and I kinda want to try and make her work.
Been mostly playing Tekken 8 since it released last week, all around superb fighting game and finally the generational leap for the series that I was hoping to see back when T7 released. I'm mostly done with all the single player content by now and I'm just on and off playing with friends and sometimes randos in the online.
But since I'm mostly done with Tekken as my "main game" I'll also be returning to my Fire Emblem Binding Blade hard mode which took a weeklong break, did CH12X yesterday and I'm now up to the bridge map which is where I believe the difficulty starts picking up once again, cus the western island arc was overall pretty easy after the brutal early game.
Something that I'm also looking to do in the near future is Super Metroid Map Rando, a super metroid randomizer that changes up the item locations and also completely jumbles up the map, I've been waiting for a Super Metroid Randomizer that does that for a long time and it seems like they've finally gotten there. Can't wait.
I think La Noire had a cinematic style camera as well for the driving, there's not any real stakes anyway when you're just moving about so it's kinda fun to do I found.
As for this, oh god no. Trying to play SNES Rainbow Road like this doesn't seem like a very good time.
I'm mainly trying to put more time to focus on other projects at the moment, but I do have an ongoing Fire Emblem Binding Blade Hard difficulty playthrough, up to Chapter 10 now.
@Zebetite Couldn't agree more, clearly there's some effort and talent put into this, it feels like a pretty big waste to have it just be a parody instead of having its own identity.
Make no mistake, the game could still be good but still, have some faith in your own game.
I haven't heard of this one before, looks really cool, I had a blast with Tormented Souls back in last halloween, maybe this could be what I try to go for the next one, this one seems to go even harder for the classic style than that one did. The PS1 aesthetic just works for horror games.
It seems to have been generally positively reviewed on steam too.
One of the few exciting releases for next year of the top of my head alongside Tekken 8 and Eiyuden Chronicles.
The card game is of some interest to me since it is a pretty unique bonus item and I do like board/card games, but ultimately I have a hard time believing a side thing like that's gonna be all that spectacular, maybe cute to try for a game or two but then it'd just end up dusting in storage, like every other special edition ever. So I went for standard edition, actually pre-ordered it earlier today. Very much looking forward to it.
Just like the first Octopath, It was alright but nothing spectacular. It looks nicer and the exploration feels a bit better but generally it falls to all the same pitfalls as the first Octopath. I don't think any combat mechanic that's centered around disabling your opponents is all that amazing, the scenarios are still extremely formulaic, the dungeons are still lame, the entire path action mechanic still has the depth of a puddle...
I think there's potential but a lot of the mechanics need to be entirely rethought.
I tried Warhammer Darktide with my friends, they all got almost 100 hours on it I think but I didn't really feel it personally, it's not bad I guess, it's got nice sound and the looks nice and the shooting feels nice, but the idea of grinding the same missions over and over just to get better loot isn't that appealing to me.
Tried the Tekken 8 demo, which I was already pretty hyped for this game, but goddamn that demo sent it to overdrive, the character animations and stages look amazing and the combat feels great (even if I still don't care for the rage arts as a mechanic, but I'll deal with it) Cannot wait for this one.
Started Cyberpunk 20-something on my shiny still-almost-new-PS5 as well, great combination of GTA and Fallout with a really strong art direction and world, love it so far. Also probably one of the bizarrely horniest games I've played in a while.
Finally I got hooked into Rimworld again, continuing my run that I started months ago and then dropped, when the addiction hits with this game it's extremely hard to put down. If you had to bring one game into a deserted island with you this one wouldn't be a bad choice.
I don't have much of a dog in this race since I'm not a big Zelda guy, I do find that the open world gameplay does work for me better.
However I can definitely undestand why someone'd be annoyed to have the original style entirely replaced. I'm not a fan of how Final Fantasy has been turned into an action game for example.
Dragon Quest Monsters Dark Prince proved to be a pretty big dud, so I'm not wasting time on that one anymore, Returnal was great and I did get a lot of mileage out of it past week but I can't get past the 3rd area and combined with the oppressive atmosphere the game has I really just needed something a bit more chill.
Right now I'm casually playing Tekken 2 which I found out was a free download on the PS Store (for some reason). I'm a Tekken 3 baby and that game had some pretty big gameplay feel improvements compared to 2 so it's always been a bit tough going back, but playing it for a bit now I have gained a bit of a newfound respect for the game. It's a bit jank but many of the moves the characters are known for are still there, the game does have an awesome soundtrack and a this weird vibe going for it that I kinda enjoy. I'm prolly gonna try unlock all the hidden fighters and in the meanwhile try to figure out something else to play.
Really? I've got a few hours on it now and so far it has come across as very low budget, especially in terms of story presentation, which really doesn't feel its very much in tune with the monster tamer angle.
It also runs terribly, especially for being a switch exclusive.
Fell victim to the day of the product and bought myself a PS5 which came with God of War, and I also bought Ghost of Sushima and Returnal which were on sale also.
God of War I have zero interest in and I tried the Sushi Samurai game, which I hear is an opent world game, but an hour in so far it's been like playing a movie, almost completely scripted, which to me is the lowest form of gaming one can have. Maybe it'll open up and get better later on but I'm quickly losing interest.
Which does leave Returnal which I would hope makes a bit more of an impression.
Having played it up until beating the power ranger knock-offs, just like the original I find it to be good but not amazing It has some cool events and set pieces and a nice soundtrack, the arrangements really do it proper justice as well, which is quite nice coming from the travesty that was the SO2 arrangements.
Star Ocean Second Story Remaster is ongoing, I'm pretty far in, I think its like 1 or 2 dungeons before the finale but I'm probably gonna go for the bonus dungeon too which is gonna be a whole chapter of its own, got my entire party decked out in bunny shoes so I'm ready.
Also visited my father's where I continued on my Final Fantasy 4 (japanese SNES version) save I've played a bit every time I've been there, made it up to the point where I beat the water fiend so now I'm in what I personally believe is the toughest strectch of the game.
Finished 8-Bit Adventures 2 few days ago (Superb game btw!)
So I started up the Star Ocean Second Story remaster, mostly just been meandering about still, I started the quest where you go with Celine to the cave but haven't done that still. It's been ages since I played the game last but I do remember that you can get a rare missable accessory if you get your pickpocket skills high enough and manage to collect the 40k needed for the bandit gloves very early on, I'm still undecided if I wanna go for the bonus dungeon since it is not for the faint of heart as I recall but in case I do, I do want to at least be prepared somewhat.
I'm not as huge on these controllers as I used to, I bought 3 of SN30 Pro+ controllers of which one now has a malfunctioning A button which kinda "sticks" which results in double presses (a pain in the ass in RPGs and like) and 1 copy of Pro 2 which just never seemed to work properly, it's always disconnecting and having compability issues.
As long as they do work they're great feeling controllers but I'm slightly iffy of their build quality now.
Got a good 10 hours of it on PC since the day the full release dropped, it's good, it has slightly limited replayability since there are only so many cases and so many resolutions to them, even after unlocking all of it and the UI and mechanics does take a bit getting used to, but it's a very stylish game with great atmosphere and music.
Luckily for myself I didn't bank on Star Ocean 2 Remaster cus turns out that my delivery for that ended up getting delayed to next week.
Instead I started up 8-Bit Adventures 2, an indie RPG, which I played the first game earlier this year and quite loved it, and now 10 hours in into this game, this one seems even better to the point where this may very well end up being my game of the year if the quality stays constant.
I was just casually playing late last evening when this guy randomly showed up on the character select, I hadn't heard a peep of any of it before so that was kinda weird, I thought they had messed up, releasing the character earlier than intended or something.
I suck at music creation but I've always wanted to learn, if only to be out of the shackles of having to use pre-determined tracks for my RPG Maker games. I wonder what the stance is on using tracks created on this on potential commercial releases?
Original in the case of all the NES Marios that got remade.
I don't care much for the all-star look or soundfont and while I kinda like the Advance port of Mario 2 for all the added content and weird voice lines, I think the originals just are more unique.
World of Horror got its full release finally so I'm playing some of that, great game and perfect for the october festivities.
I also started yet another playthrough on Rimworld, one of my recent all time favorites. I haven't played the game after its latest DLC had released so I'm kinda just doing a generic run without any real goals to see what all the new stuff potentially entails.
Yeah, I'm a fan of (old) Fire Emblem so I'm no stranger to RNG combat, but on the first game at least I found the combat to be sluggish and annoying, and the menuing and shopping to upgrade your mechs was so slow and cumbersome. I love the art of both games and I wish I could like this, but I just don't.
I'm mostly waiting for World of Horror next week but in the meanwhile I've been playing Tormented Souls, a game emulating the style of the PS1 era survival horror games, in spite of some rough edges it's been pretty fun and it does have some pretty spooky atmosphere even if the monsters themselves aren't all that scary. I think I'm decently far into it by now, I got the "electric lance" weapon a little bit before and I've opened up many of the areas of the mansion by now, so now I gotta figure out where to use all the key items I'm obtaining. Doing pretty well on resources too, I'm not in any real danger of running out of healing items or bullets any time soon.
Probably the worst main series Pokemon games for me in competition with Diamond & Pearl, but unlike those games there wasn't a 3rd version to fix many of the issues either. Doubly jarring coming from Gen 5 which I deem to be one of the better ones.
Still Final Fantasy Blacmoon Prophecy, the RPG Maker 2003 Final Fantasy fangame from the 2000s using assets from the SNES final fantasies. 20+ hours in I've entered the 2nd main act of the game.
It's jank and the writing's really goofy, infuriatingly so at times and it has SO much padding but I've been able to enjoy it for what it is nonetheless, if nothing else I do commend the effort that was put into it, there is a lot of game here.
Late last week I was visiting my father's and in there I decided to play a little bit of Final Fantasy 4, which really did get me in the mood for some final fantasy.
But unlike a normal person I decided that instead of one of the classics I'd try out Final Fantasy Blackmoon Prophecy a final fantasy fangame made in 2000s on RPG Maker 2003 by some rando using assets from the SNES final fantasies (4 most prominently), someone on the internet told me that this is the best Final Fantasy fangame, donno if there is any stock to that.
It's a little bit jank because of the (old) RPG Maker engine and the story is about what you'd expect from a fangame, bit of a mess with tons of new forgettable characters that get added at every turn and a simple plot that overexplains everything, but I do find that there is a degree of sincerity to all of it at least and the gameplay's been remarkably well paced roughly 8 hours in.
The dev clearly loves dungeons, dragoons and invisible walls.
It doesn't need to be anything set but I do want to play something different coming from another game, coming from a hard game requiring concentration I'd rather play something easy, coming from a turn based RPG I'd rather play something shorter and/or different genre etc.

Re: Talking Point: What Is Your Video Game Palate Cleanser?
It doesn't need to be anything set but I do want to play something different coming from another game, coming from a hard game requiring concentration I'd rather play something easy, coming from a turn based RPG I'd rather play something shorter and/or different genre etc.
I just cannot play too much of the same thing.
