Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (21st March)

Expa0

Continuing on with Mewgenics, well on my way into Act 2, been trying some of the challenges bringing the cursed items to the runs and whatnot as I understand that unlocks more stuff. This has been an exceptionally amazing game, an all time great as far as I'm concerned, I say this with full confidence.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 9 Pokémon?

Expa0

The Pokemon designs were overall bad in this gen, easily the worst in the series so far.

My favorite Pokemon from the gen is the legendary Wo-Chien and I do like Klawf mainly for how much of a ingame MVP it ended up being and how it sounds like a cow for some reason.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 8 Pokémon?

Expa0

I really like Nickit, though I was so disappointed at its evolution.

Uhh... Indeedee is cool, Galarian Farfetch'd is awesome, Falinks is great.

Honestly looking at the list I thought there'd be more I like, maybe the gen that comes after this was just so bad that it made the one before seem way better than it actually was.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 7 Pokémon?

Expa0

Salazzle is pretty great, Guzzlord is also so overdesigned and awful that it kind of loops back to being great for me, I do also like Alolan Meowth a whole lot.

overall this gen has a decent selection of Pokemon but not too many standouts.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 6 Pokémon?

Expa0

X/Y are probably the weakest mainline Pokemon games of all but I do overall like the Pokemon designs in this one.

Noivern is like the best looking dragon pokemon they've ever come up with, Espurr and its evolved form Meowstic are both top tier designs in my book. Even the newly added Sylveon is a much better take of a new Eevee evolutions compared to the Gen 4 efforts.

On the other hand Barbaracle is from this gen and that's a contender for the worst pokemon design of them all.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 5 Pokémon?

Expa0

I used to dislike Gen 5 designs but over the years I've warmed up to them a lot. Woobat is freaking fantastic and probably my favorite. Throh and Sawk are so bad they kind of loop around back to being great, I like the goofy elemental monkeys, Scolipede is great, just in general this gen's got some awesome bug types.

It does help that Black/White happened to be some of the best mainline Pokemon games.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 4 Pokémon?

Expa0

I've grown fond over Shinx lately for reasons I'd rather not elaborate on.

Just on the whole though I don't really like this gen of Pokemon much, the selection you had in the OG Diamond/Pearl game was just poor as far as I'm concerned. This gen does have a handful of my least favorite designs, namely Electrivire and infernappa.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 2 Pokémon?

Expa0

Ariados is my favorite Pokemon, period.

Espeon and Jumpluff are very cool too and I do have a soft spot for Ledian. Ho-oh is also my favorite legendary Pokemon.

Gen 2 is where Pokemon hit its peak as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Anniversary: Resident Evil: Deadly Silence Is 20 Years Old Today - Were You A Fan?

Expa0

Yeah! It is actually the first Resident Evil game I really played, I ultimately did dozens of runs in that game with the several different variable modes and difficulty levels you can go for.

These days I prefer to play the PS1 Director Cut release instead, but it is a great version of the classic for sure.

I guess my only regret would be that I never got to try the weirdo multiplayer mode the release has since no one else had that game.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance (GameCube) - Aged & Easier Than You're Used To, But Still A Winner

Expa0

@sportymariosonicmixx
There are two games being discussed.

Path of Radiance, the Gamecube game which this article is for, in this game the international release removes the Maniac difficulty and adds a new Easy difficulty which is easier than the easiest difficulty on the japanese version.

In FE Radiant Dawn, the Wii sequel, it is a labeling issue Japanese version has Normal, Hard & Maniac which were translated to Easy, Normal & Hard respectively for the US/EUR release, it's the same difficulty levels with different labels.

@metaphysician
Easy mode generally means easy, meant for total newcomers, which you can enjoy learning a game and just chill through the story while Normal would be the "average" difficulty which is recommended for a standard player. It's not about an ego issue when someone unwittingly picks what they assume would be the standard difficulty level.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance (GameCube) - Aged & Easier Than You're Used To, But Still A Winner

Expa0

Can't you just download the japanese gamecube thing and play japanese POR that way if you really do want to play Maniac? People familiar with the game should be able to navigate the game even in japanese I'd like to think.

Not that you'd really want to because the Maniac difficulty in this game is one of the worst takes of higher difficulty in this series ever. The enemies aren't relatively that much harder, there's just more of them and everyone is super obnoxiously tanky, it's a chore to play honestly.

The game itself is fine, I used to like it much more as it was one of the first FEs I played but it's kind of lost its luster in some ways, the Wii sequel Radiant Dawn is way better.

Re: Talking Point: Does It Bother You That Big Games Companies Are Using GenAI?

Expa0

It does, but I've also just grown increasingly jaded just in general, with the increase of AI in all aspect of life, I don't really foresee much hope for anyone who isn't either already rich or willing to adapt to it.

AI unfortunately has kind of ruined art for me, no matter what I look at, the thought always pops to head, but what if it was made by AI? You just cannot trust anyone, and it is a shame to see those who are legimately invested in their craft to just be tossed aside for a cheaper alternative that's "good enough".

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Meet The Team

Expa0

I'm really not a fan of Metroid having companion characters like that (and the way I'm hearing they are kind of overbearing and annoying too), I think the solitude is a part of the series' identity.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th November)

Expa0

That's funny, last week I actually started replaying Resident Evil 5 as well, for the first time since I played it back on the PS3 around when the Gold edition released. This time however I'm playing it on online co-op with a friend, the co-op experience is making the game so much better. We're already in the tribal area, hopefully we can get some more game time this weekend.

For my main solo playthrough I'm replaying Fire Emblem Fates Conquest, I have my share of issues with the game but I'm quite enjoying the intricately designed maps and trying out some characters which I never really gave the time of day to, most notably Odin who I understand has redeemed himself in a big way in the game's later years, the simple act of getting him a Nosferatu tome turns him from a low damage liability into a tank. I've made it through into the midgame, just got Xander in the last map and the main characters have for the most part been rounded up, next up should be the absolute nightmare that is the Ninja dungeon chapter, I'm both looking and not looking forward to that.

Re: Switch 2's First Warhammer 40,000 Game Isn't The One You Might Expect

Expa0

Tried playing this one after hearing it compared to Baldur's Gate 3, which was a game I loved. It lacks the mechanical depth of BG3 while also being about twice as confusing somehow, there's nowhere near the same amount of interaction with the world in general.

I also found the story and what was happening very difficult to follow, partly by my ADHD brain I would assume, it makes the wall-of-text text boxes exceedingly difficult to parse through with all the character expressions and whatnot also being written in text form instead of being acted out, I had zero problem following the BG3 writing in comparison. I managed to drudge through the game for a bit but once the cumbersome space combat/exploration aspect became more prominent I just lost all interest.

Maybe it's just BG3 being so masterfully crafted that even someone who usually cannot get into CRPG type deals could enjoy that one and more run-of-the-mill offering just don't do it for me in the same way.

Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me

Expa0

Judging from the online demo I'd say I do prefer Sonic, Mario Kart between the inbetween tracks and out of control item spam courtesy of having so many players just isn't all that great in my opinion. Though as it is I'm not really willing to shell out the money for Sonic at this time, it is just too expensive. Maybe once it is feature complete with all the DLC and hopefully still has a player count to play with.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Checking Out Switch Online's Virtual Boy Service?

Expa0

There's a couple games there I'd like to try but I'm not buying the a dumb peripheral for that.

Maybe if you bought the stupid thing and they let you keep the games I'd consider it for curiosity's sake, but them being tied to the Nintendo online thing and being forced to buy a thing to play them is just next level stupid.

Besides, aside from the curiosity of it I'd much rather just play the games on the TV screen instead.

Re: Virtual Boy Is Being Added To Nintendo Switch Online

Expa0

I'm sure there was absolutely no way to get these working without having the consumer buy an expensive piece of plastic that's good for this one single thing, and then you run out of the subscription and you're literally left with a piece of plastic, genius.
