That was amazing. Pokemon TCG has never been my thing but I always follow it for content like this. It's the best thing Gamefreak has unintentionally created.
No one is stiff competition for Nintendo until they have even half the brand recognition and heavyweight IP portfolio. No amount of technical superiority or new gimmick is going to move units like Nintendo and that will never be more clear than when Switch 2 is the most unremarkable console they've ever launched and it still goes hard.
Very neat. And it makes me wish once again they would have done a further depths with no ability to create much light and some horribly abstract creatures like in the ocean depths and monstrously corrupted yiga clan who went too far.
Most of all I just wanted more of this game. I love BOTW a huge amount but I loved TOTK a bit more for the Depths and Sky world (especially for that cashing in on all of Skyward Sword's flubbed potential). It was totally complete but I would have thrown money so fast at DLC.
@Tasuki It's definitely not sloppy. They upgraded the graphics while making it still look and feel like the original and didn't alter much. It is even easier than the original though, with timed hits doing splash damage and the ability to swap party members mid battle. They added some post-game extra boss fights which are kind of interesting and offer a little more challenge but nothing spectacular. New soundtrack is alright but you can always switch to the original too. Movie and other references in the original localization have been removed. Valentina doesn't jiggle when you hit her.
Rather, some guys who have nothing to do with the original failed company have bought the once already desecrated remains and hope to make some cash off the brand recognition. The only Acclaim games worth playing today have already been rereleased anyway or can be bought on gog like ReVolt.
Begrudgingly my second favorite Nintendo console, because I really love the Wii U still but the Switch really is the potential of the Wii U almost fully realized (still long for the double screen of the Gamepad). I never adopt at launch though, so eight years ago I took the day off and spent the full 7 hours while my kid was at preschool playing Breath of the Wild. It was almost perfectly timed for me to paraglide off the Great Plateau right as I needed to wrap up for the day. One of the best gaming days I've ever had by far.
Never happening. People voted with their wallets and they said it was too expensive to pay $5 for NES games and $8 for SNES. That, coupled with the world of subscriptions we live in and third parties wanting to sell their own retro collections means NSO is here to stay. The Virtual Console was fun while it lasted, but even that was subject to things vanishing from the storefront like the entirety of the C64 games. And by the time we got to the Wii U, the library was pitifully small due to the aforementioned third parties realizing they didn't need Nintendo's VC to get into the retro cookie jar.
Super soccer suddenly has a lot of diehard fans it seems. Who could forget how the illustrious Human Entertainment rocked the gaming world with this title. I have a Super NT with the 'jailbreak' firmware, I have a modded Vita, raspberry pi, etc., etc. I have the endless options anyone else does and access to the Internet which means a full archive of roms is always moments away. I also have an NSO subscription with the understanding that it is a curated list in a slick little app. The list can change any time and thankfully doesn't much, but everyone stamping their feet or hefting their silly dunks as if the NSO apps are some bastion of games preservation or the high priced archive with a high expectation are just making fools of themselves. Don't romanticize or get dramatic over a cheap little fling with SNES rentals. Any of us with a lick of sense know exactly what we're buying here.
Might give it a try someday, probably when the new price is further on sale. Dragon Warrior I-IV are favorites of all time but I've never been able to jive with any of the other games. I fell asleep playing the DQXI demo, but it still looks like it could be fun in bursts on the Switch.
Way too loud and that percussion will be annoyingly intrusive in game. It's like the Xenoblade DE remix tracks which are similarly overcooked. The original OST had a great balance in the production where it blended into the gameplay perfectly. I'll definitely stick with the original but I guess this is fine for everyone who craves being beaten over the head these days.
Rented a couple of the games back in the day so I'm good for life there but it is interesting how the AVGN episode for this just dropped. I know he's pretty much just a shell anymore outsourcing most aspects and doing it to pay the bills (no disrespect, man has a family to provide for), makes me wonder if his show is now a place companies are paying for exposure.
I definitely appreciate the focus on the animals and scenery. That's what I play Stardew mostly for, couldn't care less about the humans there past the passing interactions between doing important stuff.
@Ryu_Niiyama it's a severely neutered port of the game, it's not like they're even getting half the experience of the full product. More of a novelty than anything to see it run.
Makes me wonder if the timing on XCX has been calculated as a last grippy touch point for a player on Switch 1 to cover the gap to Switch 2. Just very interesting to hold onto a port of a giant game like this to the very end right before the successor's Direct.
Nah. Only console I've ever given up was my OG gameboy, which I figured I didn't need again once I got the Pocket and traded it for $20 and giant pack of AAA batteries. I still regret it.
Original Switch has already been refurbished for my oldest kid and I'll put that back in storage when she's done with it. For the Switch OLED I'm hoping someday someone figure out how to sideload roms into the NSO apps once Nintendo stops rolling out updates to it but otherwise it'll stay in the collection and remain as a backup.
No flippin way they're going to NSO that library when they can do remasters and sell them at a premium. DS could be possible. I have no interest in two screens squished into the Switch or awkwardly on the TV though, especially when they already look brilliant on the N3DSXL. If they can make the Switch play these games like the Wii U then I'd be all in. The DS Castlevania titles on Wii U is top tier, and worth the pain to inject them and fiddle with the display files to get the map full screen on the gamepad & bottom screen on the TV full screen.
Would love to day 1 this, but if there's any performance issues I'm going to pass. I can tolerate that on most games but when the Wii U version was already seamless and damn near-bulletproof in that department, I expect the same in a supposed definitive edition.
They really shoot themselves in the foot with that silly titling. Like Hyrule Warriors DE can't rightfully be called DE when the Wii U version had a leg up visually with the weather effects.
Huge shocker from a company that preys on fomo and hides their money grubbing behind the almighty "games preservation" while also peddling overpriced reprints of games readily available on the used market like Battletanx. Even Wisdom Tree bootlegs wouldn't fry your hardware. Shameful display. But hey, preserved some shoddy code in that Rugrats cart which has an unavoidable softlock.
Locking that little unit in the collector's box is foolish. I'd buy one to go with the Mario and Zelda G&W units, especially if it also had a desk clock function, but I'm not buying a bunch of other stuff especially the useless knickknacks to get it. But given the price point of everything together I'd guess it's a generic low grade thing anyway.
Eh, most of mine expired and half the time I thought to redeem on a game cart the release window had already passed. It's been a sad display ever since Club Nintendo closed anyway. I couldn't care much about meager discounts but exclusive merch and a year end reward was great. Platinum points are fun here and there and hopefully if they have a new program they remember to make it fun first and not just some bland penny scraping program like every other loyalty thing out there.
I was expecting a lot more comments removed. No doubt Nintendo will navigate whatever comes down the pike well. They haven't been around this long without figuring out how to weather a storm. He's obviously not as big a personality as his predecessor but Furukawa definitely has his head on collected & straight as Iwata did.
Yeah I'd never hitch my wagon to anything Funko related, that blight absolutely had an expiration date and it is passed. Also huge not shocker that a company who made their success chasing an obnoxious fad wouldn't be interested in treating their workers as anything other than consumables.
Aptly named console, in the end. My Xbox is a literal box for game pass and I love it for that. Perfect place and slick interface to pull up and try new games and game with friends. Being able to buy some of the games on the Switch for portable play is icing on the cake. No idea if I represent a significant part of the gaming population but for me their pivot over the last years has been perfect.
Never happening. Whatever pocket change they'd pick up from one-off purchases wouldn't be worth having to manage purchase transfers to the next console & keeping downloads available, and it would open the option to have a portion of occasional customers rather than 100% recurring customers. Not to mention people were constantly griping about $5 NES games. We're never getting VC back and it would be a shadow of the Wii anyway as we saw with the Wii U because other companies now prefer to sell their own collection packs.
40K to get a slight head start on making accessories which will absolutely not guarantee a massive spike in sales while putting a massive target on your back for notorious legal arm. Or, 40K for 15 minutes of internet fame and a drop of clout with a console that is effectively a brick until launch day. I sure hope someone tries to do this because it will make a great story to follow.
Hard to say. I 100%'d the original way back in the day because I felt like I wouldn't be replaying it any time soon and just wanted to see it all. Still have my gold cart complete in box and it has stayed in box since then. Someone gave me the 3DS version as a gift and I was excited for a replay but never got to the first dungeon because I realized I just can't with this game again. I obviously love LoZ but I will never understand why such an obtuse game with a painfully abbreviated game world and miserable mechanics has gotten such a following, like not just cult but a legit fan favorite. Wonderful soundtrack, and goron rolling around the field & zora swimming in that tiny pond of swimmable water is fun but that's not worth the price of admission.
I'm sure every big businessman in the world has at times had conversations about acquiring the wildly successful Nintendo, not because they know anything about it or have an interest in gaming but because big businessmen are always talking about potential acquisitions of successful companies. By the same stroke as Yamauchi probably had a pile of things he thought about acquiring before and after deciding on the Mariners.
Looks like a weird knockoff remake. And the Kickstarter screams amateur. I'll pass and stick with the original, and buy this later if it comes out and is decent.
The garbage is going to keep popping up, this only encourages bottom feeder companies to be more creative which risks legitimate titles getting caught in splash damage. Better to encourage customers to be more discerning with their purchases, but instead everyone expects companies to put up the safety rails for them. It's really not hard to do 30 seconds of research to find out if title is garbage and scrolling past obvious crap to let it starve is similarly easy.
Wow, not preying on fomo with preorders for limited physical editions shouldn't be cause for affirmative nods but that's the damage LRG and their ilk have done.
Reliable leaker is an oxymoron. They're clout chasers who occasionally get things correct, usually the extremely predictable guesses like a Kirby game at the end of a console life cycle.
I just want the proper rerelease of Symphonia but that's never happening. It's the only game in the series that really clicked with me. I'll take more Ys on the Switch though.
Not surprising, the pivot to NSO apps over virtual console purchases was surely due in part to the nightmare of transitioning purchases from the Wii to the Wii U and having titles not available on the latter which couldn't be transferred. And for every one person saying they want to buy individual games again there's probably 100 people going lol no one's gonna pay $5 for an old GBA game that should be like 50 cents tops.
Eh. Mirror of Fate was a weird janky (bad jank) game with a silly story. The Lords of Shadow games were okay but generic action games shoved through a Castlevania skin. Bloodstained was already been chewed Iga gum. Curse of the Moon's novelty lasted for exactly one game. Metroidvania has become so bloated and mediocre titles are celebrated. I don't think there's anyone left capable of making a good successor, official or not. And the existing games have pretty much said it all. All Konami needs to do is rescue Adventure Rebirth from wiiware limbo.
Yeah 100% I want it back. I stopped using all social media in 2012 because it was terrible then and has only gotten worse. Miiverse was perfect because it had all the benefits of sharing experiences in real time with none of the garbage social media 'proper' introduces, and it retained the fun of connecting with random people. Sharing posts when the GBA Castlevania games dropped, a ton of us experiencing the Mysterious Murasame Castle for the first time together, talking Earthbound moments, all the stuff everyone was finding when Breath of the Wild launched - those were all such great memories and there's nothing exactly like it today with a singular focus and attached environment. Launching the Wii U and seeing random posts on the curated list was awesome, integrating posts into games was great too and I don't even care about getting the occasional d pic that slipped through (in my experience the occurrences of inappropriate content was massively overblown). I get it would need moderation and that's something no one wants to do anymore but it would give Nintendo another corner that no other gaming company has right now because everyone else just wants to integrate with garbage piles and call it a day.
Yeah I'm going to agree with him. The Wii version got real sloggy real fast trying to do increasingly complex and fast moves with dodgy motion controls. And it definitely wears long & hard on a game commonly known as OK Am I Done?
Looks interesting. I sure hope it isn't flubbed with a ton of unnecessary dialogue or handholding or map bloat or uninspired level design or ridiculous boss battles. It's batty how low the standards have fallen for a good concise Metroidvania.
Wow they get an official name and a chance to find other work. Every mass layoff I've been privy to was turning around and realizing a third of the company wasn't in the building anymore, and getting an email at the end of the day basically saying if you can read this you survived.
Perfect time to get DK64 on the NSO app. I couldn't get into most 3D collectathons but this one did it so right for me. Planning to replay it anyway when the Analogue 3D ships but it'd be nice to have on the go too.
For whatever reason it was really fun to download all the map files ahead of time back on the Wii U. They definitely pulled off some magic not just making the game but now compressing it.
And I love that the game's soundtrack is such a pleb filter. I can't wait to get back into a battle and sing out those cheesy lines again.

Looks interesting. I sure hope it isn't flubbed with a ton of unnecessary dialogue or handholding or map bloat or uninspired level design or ridiculous boss battles. It's batty how low the standards have fallen for a good concise Metroidvania.
Re: Bandai Namco Studios Has Reportedly Reduced Its Staff By Over 100 People
Wow they get an official name and a chance to find other work. Every mass layoff I've been privy to was turning around and realizing a third of the company wasn't in the building anymore, and getting an email at the end of the day basically saying if you can read this you survived.
Re: Japanese Charts: Donkey Kong Is Still The King Despite Diminishing Sales
Perfect time to get DK64 on the NSO app. I couldn't get into most 3D collectathons but this one did it so right for me. Planning to replay it anyway when the Analogue 3D ships but it'd be nice to have on the go too.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Digital File Size Seemingly Reduced
Stuck on a whole different pla-net
Re: Nintendo Confirms Timings For The Switch 2 Direct In April
That's a nice time for me. I usually never have meetings at 9AM but I blocked it just in case.
