Last week's Nintendo Direct broadcasts brought a host of fresh details on amiibo, taking us beyond the launch period's tales of Super Smash Bros. support, relatively minor features in Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8, and the ongoing shenanigans of painfully limited stock. Well, the latter may be ongoing, though we hope that as we move through 2015 Nintendo will be able to meet demand a little better with its upcoming figures.
To kick us off we had the reveal of a fourth wave of amiibo for Smash Bros. - Robin, Lucina, Pac-Man, Wario, Ness, and Charizard - that'll arrive in April; there are reasonable odds that the Ness figurine will be tougher to find than Mario's credentials as a plumber. The batch of new figures was expanded further by the upcoming Super Mario range, which will be heavily marketed and released with Mario Party 10 - it'll feature Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, and Toad, with the latter being the only brand new addition; these designs are free-standing in their poses, though, without plastic supports.
So, those are the new toys. In terms of Wii U game compatibility we saw the Western confirmation of abilities and items available with three toys in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, the Toad-only extra - in which you search for a pixelated Toad - in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and various features within Mario Party 10. In the latter game some amiibo will have read and write features, with the Super Mario range - or their Smash Bros. equivalents - unlocking special boards and allowing characters to save and use one item per round.
In a Direct that was focused on the New Nintendo 3DS, for large spells, there was naturally a push to promote the arrival of amiibo support on the portable in the West - it's already been happening in Japan. There'll be a Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS update in February that will give amiibo the same features as on Wii U, while Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy+ (say that quickly three times) will have unlockable plane skins; it should be noted, however, that those skins can be unlocked in the game proper. Slightly neater is the Code Name S.T.E.A.M feature that will allow Fire Emblem amiibo to be scanned in and then used as playable characters, which is quirky but looks rather fun.
That gives us a lot of amiibo additions in the next few months, then, and attention will turn to how obtainable these figures will be at retail and how useful and fun the implementation is. The arrival of Mario Party 10 will also raise the issue of limited save data for the first time - each toy can only have one set of data, so if you want to use (for example) your previously saved Mario Smash Bros. toy for read / write in Mario Party 10 you'll need to wipe its data to do so. In an ideal world Nintendo will offer simple data back-up options in games to let you swap data about between toys - Smash Bros. already does this behind the scenes, as when a scan goes awry it reverts to an automatic back-up; that would potentially mean some buying less toys, though, so Nintendo may decide to hold back on giving us the option.
We'll see on that, while we'll also get into the realm of potential consumer confusion; to be fair to Nintendo, its official website and compatibility chart tries to tackle this.
So, amiibo is about to get busy, but we want to know what you think before we look at it more closely in a wordy article. Are you excited about what amiibo's bringing in early 2015? Confused? Indifferent?

I just want my Ness. Nothing else matters.
How about making some more "out of stock" ones first?
A Luigi's Mansion and Kid Icarus Set, I would buy all of them.
Definitely getting the Ness and Luigi amiibo once I get some more money.
Well, I'm happy that I can show my enduring support for FE some more, and the STEAM integration is the first and only one I'm actually interested in.
@Tuulenpoika Same here. It better not be rare.
I want my Ike, Robin and Lucina. To be honest, Codename Steam is the only one with interesting amiibo support and even then I want to try out the game before I buy if possible.
None of the in game uses for Amiibo are really that great yet, most of it is skins and costumes and other pointless things. I've yet to see a game use Amiibo for something worthwhile.
EDIT: Actually it's more the games I want that aren't using it well, not as much the lineup as a whole. Mario Party 10 and S.T.E.A.M. use it well, but I don't care about either of those games. Meanwhile, I like Captain Toad and Mario Kart 8 but they use Amiibo terribly.
I was planning on getting Sonic and Meta-Knight but beetween the stocking issues and the scalpers I changed my mind.I already got the only amiibo I really wanted(Link).
Amiibo is kinda losing me as a WiiU accessory, since the implementation in games so far has been a waste of time, and upcoming titles don't make me care more for the features, either.
At this point, I'll probably just get my amiibo harem, and then hope for Nintendo to allow 3rd-party developers to add their characters to the amiibo range. That's the only thing that could revive my interest.
I want more Smash Bros. style read/write functionality from amiibos, rather than having them as glorified unlocks for skins, content and items/abilities.
That was the interesting hook behind them in the first place and we've seen precious little of it.
Wrong choice on poll 1 for me. I'll get only a few on wave 4 and not all. I'm getting all Super Mario range on the other hand as well as the upcoming Bowser and Toad Wiimotes to complete the set. The Peach, Luigi and Bowser amiibos are way better than their Smash counterparts. I'm glad I didn't get Peach and Bowser yet. I'm not sure about Rosalina and Wario Smash amiibos if I'll get them. They could release a better Rosa & Wario Super Mario range in the future.
I just wish they would fix the stock issue. I hate that I have a hard time finding some of them.
I'm more in it for the collecting than for the games (I haven't bothered to use them for Smash at all).
My major complaint regarding amiibo so far has been the store exclusives. A guy at EBgames shot me down when I asked if I could pre-order Shulk. It was embarrassing.
Wave 4: Pac Man and Ness
Super Mario: Toad and Bowser
All I want is Bowser, Sonic, Mega Man. Which I have all 3 pre-ordered. Just collecting my favorites out of amiibo and not really using them unless a upcoming game really shows some true use that I care about.
I'm just gonna get the Smash ones of the ones I care about. As for the games, not bad, but could be a bit better. Hence why I mostly just get them for collectors purposes.
My top wants are Lucina, Robin, and Ike. If my budget allows, I'll consider picking up the Reprint of Marth, and maybe Ness/A Kirby Character. I really want them to do a whole lot more on both platforms, although I really think the Fire Emblem Characters in Code Name: Steam is a great start.
Yeah, they're doing a MUCH better job with Amiibo integration now it seems. Adding Fire Emblem characters to Code Name STEAM is TOTAL HYPE!!!
And unlocking an entire Amiibo Party mode with character based boards in Mario Party 10 is exactly the kind of thing I wanted to see. And the Kirby Rainbow Curse Amiibo support seems useful as well- I could definitely go for a faster dash attack and new outfit. And I also like the skins in Ace Combat- they look really cool I think.
If Mario Party 10 is just that stupid car... I am not buying it.
Still no compelling amiibo use. I look forward to the day when I can walk into a second hand store or garage sale and buy my first amiibos on clearance when they are 5 for $10.
Might get Robin if my mum lets me. Pretty disappointed by amiibo so far.
Pac man is the only amiibo I want from wave 4, and I forgot to pre-order him.
Can't wait to get my hands on some Wave 4 Amiibo and Super Mario Amiibo!!
I'll try and get Ness and maybe Lucina from Wave 4. I'll probably pick up Luigi, Bowser, Peach and Toad from the Super Mario range – I already have Smash Mario and Yoshi, and much prefer that sculpt for Yoshi than the odd looking pose they've used here. Yoshi standing upright like that just looks strange!
I've yet to buy any amiibo because I don't want the figures. I'll buy the cards if they function the same as the figures though. I think Nintendo needs to release a killer app that requires amiibo like a Skylanders clone or Subspace Emissary 2. There's nothing wrong with its current uses but its sales are more for being decent figures than worthwhile tech; games requiring amiibo will change that.
None of them..it's a TRAP! #Gotta catch'em all.....
So far amiibos are a mixed bag for me. I love collecting them just because im a huge Nintendo fan, but when it comes to using them for games I find them pretty lacking. Like at first I was excited to lvl up my amiibos In smash and unlock new stuff in hyrule and mk8 but after getting a few amiibo to lvl 50 and unlocking the content in mk8 I really have no reason to use them. As of now all my amiibo are just in a display case. I feel the only upcoming game that actually makes me want you to use my amiibo is code name steam. It actully gives you a reason to keep scanning your amiibo in if you want to keep them in battle.
I think amiibo's would be much better than what they are now. Maybe using them as memory cards or sell virtual console or small eshop games with them.
I watched the nintendo direct. At one point, talking about a new game for the 3ds, Steam something, you could use Marth, Ike, and Robin amiibos each round. Then the guy said, for those of you who didn't get Marth in the first wave, don't worry, we are going to be working to ensure plenty are in stock in time for this release (or something to that effect). Basically, as I told my son, when the Wii launched here in the US, and sold out, Nintendo focused on their EMEA launch for the Wii, they did not expect such a strong demand, but after they filled all of their orders in EMEA, they worked on ramping up stock back here in the US. All of these Amiibo's are going to be available again, and in years to come I suspect they will be collecting dust on shelves, as Nintendo over produces to meet demand. I see, on a daily basis, Villager available from Amazon Germany. I actually bought one from Germany for my son. With shipping, it cost a little over $30, cheaper than what most scalpers are going for and what is available on Amazon US.
Just give me captain toad already
@Godlygamer you can't pre-order wave 4 yet..at least I don't see any of the retailers offering them up for pre-order yet.
Ness. Toad.
Simple.
The one and only amiibo I'm getting so far is Marth for Codename S.T.E.A.M
I'm surprised so many people voted that they are "Quite pleased, Amiibo is going really well" when Nintendo has been absolutely terrible at keeping them in stores and worse in giving us explanations for this shoddy job at maintaining or continuing stock.
After watching the Jimquisition video on amiibos, I'm a bit more skeptical than before. If there's a metroid one in the future I'll have to get it though!
Nintendo's been doing pretty good with Amiibo they're selling like hotcakes everywhere. but they still need that game that to them to they're fullest, they need a game like Disney infinity or Skylanders.
I'd be interested in Amiibo figures if they were available at retail. They aren't, so I'm not.
On the upside, I've moved past being "rather pissed at how the whole stock and preorder debacle has been handled" into a blissful "just don't care"... so that's an improvement regarding my overall feelings on Amiibo.
I wanna get them all. Both the Super Mario and Smash Bros collection of amiibo figures. I don't even care that much about the game compatibility; that's mostly an extra for me, personally. At least, until there's something truly interesting that can be done with these amiibo.
I really think Nintendo needs to make a skylanders- esque game so there is really a reason for owning loads of amiibo. At the moment, all the features are rather good, my favourite so far being smash Bros and MK8, but I feel that they lack a real figure pusher, a game that requires lots of amiibos to fully complete it. Then Ninty would be rolling in it.
Still have to pick up Luigi, Donkey Kong, Mega Man, and Yoshi and probably a few more!
@Iggly I feel your pain
I have really been enjoying collecting the amiibos to decorate my apartment. The designs are awesome!
I have also been using them a lot in Smash Bros. I have 2 Wii U's (one for home with my Wife, and one for my afterschool video game club that I run for my 7th/8th grade students). Smash bros is naturally a big hit for the club, and I can do grading while the kids play on projector. I have been enjoying training up amiibos and bringing them into the club as "guest fighters" for kids to fight. At level 50 with specialized equipment, they can be absolutely brutal. The kids love the challenge, and I enjoy training up the amiibos (have 8 amiibos fight each other on automatic, and then collect the coins, experience and goodies - all while getting work done at my computer - win!) and matching stats/skills to the personality of the characters (i.e, Luigi is high speed and defense, and heals automatically).
Excited to finally have some use for the amiibos. Never bought a Wii U, but getting the NN3DSXL in February. The amiibo support for Code Name: Steam seems like the best right now. Having Lucina and Robin fight alongside steampunk fighters in another strategy game is pretty cool. Support for Smash 3ds also seems pretty good, but nothing compared to CN:S.
I personally am a fan of Amiibo. I just hope they implement them stronger in future games. Some of the uses they have shown have been kind of lackluster.
im going to scalp the ness ones like they are going out of style
I'm really hoping for an amiibo sandbox game a la disney infinity. As far as functionality goes, anything less than that will be a disappointment to me. I enjoy collecting them as figures though.
@ikki5 sadly its amiibo party along with bowser party and Mario party. There is no mode without the car. Looks like another chance at redeeming themselves by making a really good Mario Party wasted.
The only reason i'm buying these figures cause they look awesome nothing more!Cause costumes? Really? If there was something like amiibo land where you can use them in minigames and such then i will changed my mind, but for now amiibos are just collectible figures, which for some reason Nintendo can't restock some of the rare ones.
getting every amiibo in wave 4 besides charazard.
The Shulk Amiibo will definitely have it's uses in Xenoblade Chronicles X and maybe Xenoblade Chronicles 3D...
After I complete my pokemon game collection, I'm gonna try getting all the Pokémon Ammiibo (either japenese or American due to certain American amiibos going sky-high such as Lucario)
I like the amiibo party mode with the use of amiibo in Mario Party 10 but from the looks of it,its gonna be another wasted opportunity to make a really good Mario party after those awful Mario Party games 8 and 9 were. And I expected more amiibo use in Captain Toad Treasure Tracker rather than just finding a sprite of toad. That is pretty depressing.
I have yet to be convinced on how essential Amiibo are in any game, as much as I love just collecting them. They're a fun extra for sure and I love that they look so cool.
I am part of the problem: I think amiibo integration is weak at best (to the point that I view cost/benefit as worse than Disney or sky landers), supply stock is an embarrassment, and communication was horrible (but getting better) and yet, in spite of all of that, I have purchased 11 of them (more if there was stock), will purchase more as they are released, and may even get the full super Mario set bc I like the style.
Nintendo would do well to make a sandbox game that uses the figures. I can't imagine that people that knew little of the way the figures would work in a game are impressed with their implementation after the fact.
"As amiibo Expands and Evolves, Which Features Are You Most Excited About?"
At the top of my list? A restock of Wave 1 Smash Bros. amiibo. That'd be an awesome feature.
At least Nintendo are compensating for requiring multiple r/w data for certain figures. They could've made it so u had to buy the same mario for each game, but now you can buy one design for smash and one for mario party. No one can justifiably say it's a money-making gimmick, cuz if that were true they'd just have the one design and produced mario. I wish I had the finance to get these amiibo. I'll have to just settle for a select few methinks!
I'm in the minority on this it seems. I don't care about amiibo, I think they cost too much, and I think their use in games is pointless. I don't have space for them, the money for them, or interest in the features they deliver. I honesty think they are a waste of resources.
I want a Toon Link one, even though I have Link.
Why is there no "I want them but they are sold out everywhere" option?
Again, I find great value in Amiibo in how it contributes to my gaming experience for games I'm going to play anyway, but I'm 100% disappointed in the commitment by nintendo to get them in the hands of people, scalpers aren't entirely the problem as I've seen from working in best buy warehouse that stores are simply not being sent any. my store literally got 1 diddy kong, 1 little mac and 1 pit. never got wii-fit, marth or villager...what kind of garbage is that?
Captain Toad is dissapointing, Hyrule Warriors, Smash and Mario Kart I feel do it rather well, while Rainbow Curse, Codename:S.T.E.A.M. and Mario Party I feel do it the best.
Waiting for those Toon Link and Mega Man amiibos...
@CerberusAzdin Hopefully they can use the molds that have already been made and just up production. I'd planned on ordering just a few to begin with but as I had preordered have just held onto them. As collector items they are nice quality for the price, although I would like to see more uses for them. Personally I don't think it would be all that bad to have a Skylander/Infinity style Nintendo themed game that incorporated them all. Even if you couldn't level up your figures because of limitations in the save data, it would be nice to just collect and explore as your favorite character.
I think another issue Nintendo NEEDS to address shortly is Amiibo save data. Having to erase Mario to use your Smash Bros Mario figure in Mario Party and then erase the Mario Party data to play again in Smash seems crazy. Each character should have a six to ten save slot bank on your Wii U.
@NintendoFan64 I agree, but the fact that Captain Toad and Mario Kart 8 use amiibo at all adds to the amiibo versatility. At this point Smash Brothers amiibo's biggest selling point (aside from being collectible figurines) is fighting with or against a more difficult opponent. Any other uses for franchise amiibo's outside of their home game is just gravy. We could hope that each amiibo has some future use we are unaware of, but for now we are left with taking them at face value.
@audiobrainiac I thought the same thing for a while, and could still use some convincing. Right now at this point I have them all, but will soon reach the point where I have to financially only buy a few select amiibo.
I read a recent reddit article talking about how amiibo hit 1.5 to 2.5x more powerfully than you do in a match even without feeding them equipment. But aside from that they also use advanced tactics like hanging onto an edge that a CPU will not do. These were just a few noticed features. Hopefully Nintendo developers continue to add new features to upcoming games. I fully plan to pickup every Fire Emblem Smash character for use in S.T.E.A.M.
I just don't see a point to them yet other than being collectables. Give me a game where all the amiibo are playable. Like an open world game.
Micro unlockables are just not that great.
Nintendo just needs to make the amiibo be used in better ways in the games and actually RESTOCK the figures that very obviously have extremely high demand.
Mario Party 10 is really disappointing me. When I heard there was a traditional mode, I was hoping for something more akin to the first eight games, but then found out that the traditional mode is just Mario Party 9's dumb car mode, without Bowser. Then I see the amiibo mode, which has players moving separately, collecting coins to buy a star like a true Mario Party game, but the board map is a boring square. Nintendo can't seem to remember all the aspects that made Mario Party fun. It isn't just the minigames; the maps had a part to play in it as well.
Forget the amiibo for a second. DONKEY KONG is playable in Mario Party again?!! Shouldn't that be news-worthy? Too bad about car returning, though.
I thought Shulk would be the only one I'd buy this year... Then they announced compatibility with Codename:S.T.E.A.M I went from planning 1 Amiibo this year and a probably not on Steam to planning on 4 Amiibo this year and day 1 on Steam
My two amiibos are collecting dust right now. I'm a patient person, so I will wait for a sandbox game that uses them more extensively.
@King_Boo same, i guess we're in the minority or getting too old for this stuff or something. it's just a bunch of figures with a tiny memory chip that's used to unlock features. i might pick up a ness or toad one but it's a waste of money unless you collect toys.
I wish they had an Amiibo driven game, where they unlocked something significant ..
I already have Diddy Kong, so I just need Mega Man and a Super Mario Line Amiibo. But, still, I wish they were used better. Amiibo party is just regular mario party!
All i want is lucina and robin from wave 4. Im looking for marth and ike now
Lucina and the new Peach are the ones I really want. I hope I can grab Charizard and Ness too though.
I want Wario and Ness in wave 4 but still plan on picking up Yoshi and Kirby.I think Amiibos is pretty solid thus far, especially considering it's barely kicked off not that long ago.
It'll only improve going forward. They should definitely make it so if you can have more save files on a amiibo. It's not a deal breaker for me but a slight annoyance.
@MixMasterMudkip The new Peach? Are you talking about Rosalina?
Personally, I am not really liking the whole amiibo thing. They are a bit pricey to me and they don't really do enough to be worth a purchase. It's kind of like physical DLC to me. And these things are so darn difficult to find. It's just not worth it in my opinion.
@Bolt_Strike I agree w/ you. I feel like nintendo is using amiibo to sell games that usually won't, and not really try w/ games that don't need it.
I want more support for the amiibos! There's not enough as of yet!
I'm not really into the whole amiibo thing. I'm a gamer not a collector so if it doesn't add something meaningful to a game, I'm just not that keen! Having said that, I'll grab 1 or 2 for birthdays probably and I said I'd buy a wario and waluigi one if they came out to encourage some more game action for my favourites
@blaze8937
My thoughts exactly.
Best Amiibo/Amiibo promotion video ever created:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb3N01lm6P8
Honestly, I'm not sure where I stand on amiibo. I got one as a gift, and amiibo in general seems pretty neat. I'm just not sure if I'd like to go through the trouble of those that run out of stock in less than two seconds.
I'm on the same wagon as most in thinking that Amiibo are cool but I'm not really convinced yet. If you have a second, read my idea below for Amiibo integration for the upcoming Zelda U title and tell me what you think. I humbly submit my idea is quite good for two reasons: A) It could support ALL Amiibos, currently released and any future ones, and B) It would be lore friendly, meaning it would not break the atmosphere and seriousness a Zelda game should have. Here's the idea:
You scan in any Amiibo at any time in the game. Scanning an Amiibo will add into the game an easter egg pertaining to that Amiibo's franchise, only you don't know where or how. In Zelda U's expansive open world...you may never find what it added, or you might if you keep a sharp eye out. Some examples of what I mean:
Villager Amiibo: Brands your bug net (assuming there is one) with the Animal Crossing leaf symbol.
Yoshi Amiibo: Makes a specific group of those lizard enemies in a specific dungeon turn
Yoshi-green and have a saddle on their backs.
Peach Amiibo: A certain woman in one city is now carrying a pink parasol.
Donkey Kong Amiibo: A certain rock face out in the wilderness somewhere now has a hieroglyph of a gorilla scratched onto it.
Fox Amiibo: At a certain time in the day (or night) you can look up to the sky and see a tiny R-wing flying in the distance.
Marth Amiibo: In the weapon shop, you can see the Falchion sword hanging on the back wall.
Wii Fit Trainer Amiibo: Link's idle animation cycle now includes him breathing and exhaling deeply (yoga-like).
etc. etc. etc. You could re-scan the Amiibos at any time to disable the easter egg. I think it would be a fun way to include all Amiibos without messing with the game itself and they would make for really great Miiverse posts. Thoughts? Feedback?
I think amiibo looks really cool. I would like to collect the figures, but I don't have a Wii U, and I'm not getting a new 3ds. I hope they make an amiibo connector cord for the old 3ds because it sounds fun.
@invictus4000 I think that would be a nice idea. But I'm not really sure if that would be worth it considering how much amiibo cost. I may not even be able to find the easter egg then it might just be wasted money.
Definitely want to get all the Fire Emblem amiibos, as I fully intend to use them in codename steam.
I said very dissapointed on the last one simply because they are doing terribly with their inventory levels. It's really embarrassing that they didn't prepare better. Other than that, they're great.
Where's the option for "I like the idea of amiibos even if their use so far has been so-so, but Nintendo seriously needs to do something regarding the stock issue.", because I'm in that segment.
Everywhere I look for them I just see Mario, Peach and Kirby. The only time I've been able to see more variety was the release day for wave 1.
None yet.
Holy crap Nintendo! Slow down a little. Stop releasing so many damn amiibo's at once. Give people a chance to get the amiibo's they want. We aren't made of money. We won't be able to afford to buy an actual game when it gets released for our WiiU/3DS. While your at it stop with this super limited amiibo crap.
amiibo must be an endangered species. Why else would they be so rare in the wild (of Target, EB Games, Kmart, etc.)?
I'd be nice if they made Splatoon amiibo that you could save your character, clothes, and load-out to so you could do local play at a friend's and have all your stuff there.
As for the new releases, I'm going to try and get Ness, Pac Man, and Charizard from that set. MAYBE the FE ones. I'm not the biggest FE fan but I like their use in Code Name S.T.E.A.M. And I'll try to get the Super Mario ones. I'm kinda unhappy Mario Party 10 has it set that everyone moves together, like they had in 9, so I don't know if I'll get that game, though.
Paultina isn't in Wave 4 is she? That is the one I want. I have a feeling that will be a hard one to get.
If I come cross a Sonic amiibo in the wild, I'll likely pick it up to join my Fox and Pikachu. Otherwise I don't see myself buying many more. I do hope that Ninty works on storing saved amiibo data somewhere so it can be used on more games in the future without having to completely reset the figure each time. Granted it doesn't take long to train my amiibo to level 50 on Sm4sh but seeing as I haven't bought my own copy yet, (i been training them at friends houses) and I finally got Pikachu right where I want him to be for sparring and teaming up. Mario Party 10 will (hopefully) not be the last game to use the storage on amiibo so I am curious how this is going to turn out.
I don't think even Nintendo is selfish enough to insist we all will buy a second figure without getting angry about it.
Is there a feature which actually allows you to buy them
So far amiibo just includes minor gameplay additions for games, instead of straight-up adding the character into the game its compatible with; which is what I'd prefer.
It won't stop me from buying them though. Pac-Man, "regular" Mario, and Luigi will be mine!
I must be a pretty average person, because turns out I voted with the majority for every single poll.
/goes back to doing average person things
Besides what Super Smash Bros. did with amiibo, I really haven't been impressed. At least they're cool collectables aside from whatever else they're supposed to be ;-;
I just want a Robin amiibo.
Was kinda hoping other games would do more than just add stuff...oh well. :c
I think we need a nintendo world game, like disney infinity, of course it will be difficult to put together, but it could have been a bit like nintendoland
@invictus4000 I think it is a neat little idea. At the end of the day it is another little extra for a number of amiibo character's
I couldn't give a $h1t€ about amiibo.
Most exciting thing about amiibos is that I can look at them on my shelf.
I just hope Nintendo can fix space issues. Also PLEASE no more retailer exclusive amiibo's.
I'm really fond of the "looking sweet sitting on my office desk" feature.
I'm rather hoping they do a Fire Emblem line when the new game comes out. A lot of possibilities for amiibo with a tactical RPG.
I've already moved on from Amiibos due to the fact that I can't find some of them unless I overpay for them on Ebay.
I'll admit that I really like how they all look, and who doesn't like figures of classic & new Nintendo characters; but for the small amount of in-game content and the fact that they failed to produce enough has caused me to lose interest.
I don't really care for the use of Amiibo's so far. There really needs to be a good amiibo-based game instead of just gimmicky features (that some games even allow you to unlock without amiibo's anyway). So far I might just get two amiibo's this year, but just to put next to my Wii U as figurines.
I think overall, use of amiibo in games are subpar, but I'm just really collecting them because I love Nintendo and they look cool. The fact they work in games is a bonus (backwards thinking, I know... But I feel I'm the target audience Nintendo had in mind. Lol) folks who aren't really that into video games always admire the Pit, Samus and Falcon amiibo I have on my desk.
As far as me using them in games, I unlocked the MK8 costumes and I use them daily in Hyrule Warriors and that's it really. I haven't been bothered to level up in Smash. As far as upcoming games, STEAM looks like an intriguing use, but I haven't decided if I want that game yet. It looks like MP10 will use them well, but I'm not that into MP, but I might get it for Family and friends game night at my place.
@Pahvi Yeah that's a good way to look at it. For me I like getting a few for collectable reasons. I just think if they really want to convince people the "extra" aspect of the figures needs to be something more ideal.
Out of the next wave I'll get at least Toad and probably Charizard.
I don't think Ninty really thought amiibos fully through. There is SO MUCH wasted potential in these games. I expected them to work like Skylanders except across multiple games and instead we get some that unlock special things in certain games, Meh.
Ninty needs to make a completely new IP for amiibos and make them more ubiquitous. Even if they don't come out with the exact same sculpts for ones like Wii Trainer, Marth, etc... they need to make a 2nd printing or new versions or something.
An adventure game (like Skylanders) where each amiibo can be brought in and out of the game, and remember their skill points or weapon increases, etc... would be TOADally awesome.
