Nico07 commented on Lego Jurassic World Pre-Order Freebies Comi...:

@Quorthon I can think of several dev issues such as Dues Ex (Director's Cut) was not an exclusive to the Wii U, sure it had a few add-on features like use of the gamepad, but it was lackluster when compared against the 360 version. And the 360 is older hardware, so the Wii U version was a port with a few enhancements. EA learned their lesson when they released Mass Effect at launch and then gave PS3 and 360 less than a month later the whole trilogy for less. Their studio, Criterion released NFS Most Wanted U, which is a masterpiece on Wii U. I can't sing them enough praises for that game. But it sold six months after the original release on other platforms. EA also had Crysis 3 ready to ship on Wii U, but for reasons unknown to us cancelled last minute. Watch Dogs wasn't a simple 360 port, but the problem is that it released six months after the original release that got ok to bad reviews. I personally liked the game but only because I can see it has a lot of potential as a series.

So yes, I agree many of Nintendo's third party woes are in some part their own. It's not all Nintendo, and not all just lazy developers. Nintendo insists on making their own creative hardware that innovates, gives us something new, but at the expense of a hardware war. Personally I don't mind that third parties have largely shunned Wii U (with exception of Ubisoft and maybe Activision, so far). Nintendo has some great second party devs like Retro and others that are giving us great content. I personally own all three current gen systems because they each offer something unique.

For the Lego series, I could get better graphics by buying on PC or PS4, but I love the split screen gameplay of Wii U, which is why I am buying this game on Wii U. Sure I won't get Tim and Lex, but they are minor characters and I am sure there is likely other content being held back for Lego Dimensions, so I won't get too upset about this. At least the game costs $10 less on Wii U than it does on PS4 or Xbox One.

Nico07 commented on Review: Splatoon (Wii U):

@Zapkido That was my thought as well. When a game is retired for lack of online players (which Splatoon will eventually be) the game will have little to no value. It's similar to the re-release of Mario Kart DS on the Wii U eShop. Albeit you can race in every course of the game, MKDS is a shell of what the game once was with no local or online multiplayer.

Nico07 commented on Review: Splatoon (Wii U):

@zool I agree that single player or local multiplayer is what I play most when gaming. Sure a lot of games now a days are online and gaming culture has somewhat shifted to online. Nintendo has been a little backwards in this regard until now and maybe it's for the better to have a few games that online is a major portion of the game. But for those of us that are used to gaming locally with family and friends, the lack of a more robust single and local multiplayer mode is a little disconcerting.

Nico07 commented on Review: Splatoon (Wii U):

@rjejr They probably cycle through only letting you play two arenas every few hours possibly to have them cached locally to allow the quickest load times. Another reason is likely just to keep people playing longer and at different times to be able to play all of or their favorite levels. But in reality it does seem like a pretty lame limitation.

Nico07 commented on Review: Splatoon (Wii U):

This review is slightly disappointing. I was lucky enough to be able to preorder the three pack Splatoon amiibo, so it will be good to have that extra content and the cool looking figures. But aside from that 3-5 hours for single player and a very limited local multiplayer mode are disappointing. I suppose it could be like Titanfall and be online only to the point where when the game is unpopular that you can do nothing with it but use the game disc as a coaster. Hopefully more local multiplayer modes are added in the near future as I was looking forward to playing this with my son. But we did buy a second Wii U around Christmas for dirt cheap. So I suppose in my situation I could just always buy a second copy down the road and we could do online friends mode matches.

Nico07 commented on Review: Splatoon (Wii U):

@zool The only reason the editor is holding his final review score is because the game hasn't launched online yet, which is a huge part of the game. Matchmaking times, connection issues, and general online play will all affect how well the game ranks. This is a common practice by this site and the fact that the game's score is pending reflects nothing about the quality of the game.

@NTELLIGENTMAN Emulators are notorious for having bugs and issues. Like the video states, running games on original hardware is the best way for games to work correctly. Using one of these mods you can get picture sharp and crisp enough to get the best picture on today's monitors.

@AyeHaley Congrats on the Amiibo finds, I already had both but was going to buy one each for a friend. Didn't check my notifications until I woke up and they were long gone.
As far as Disney Infinity 3.0, it is pretty exciting, and I'm really liking whats been shown for the racing courses, especially the Nightmare Before Christmas. That said all of the content will be on the same disc, but locked to the playset pieces. This is looking to be the biggest and best Infinity yet, but with something like eight, yes eight playsets at likely $35 each... my wallet doesn't like the sound of it.

Nico07 commented on Wii U Stretch Goal Seemingly Teased for Bloods...:

I would likely buy this for Wii U, but as others have said I will wait. I have PS4 and XONE but with Amiibo and Splatoon out soon my money is elsewhere. Plus I also just backed Yooka Laylee, a game I know will be coming to Wii U. If they want Wii U owners to back it they need to confirm this as an actual stretch goal.

@Danrenfroe2016 If these additional eight were aware of the final competition and will be practicing days on end until E3 then yes, it is a shame. But if they are a mix of celebrities who come into this blind then I think it will be good publicity. I seriously believe that one of these eight will be Fred Savage.

I think the range of stores is a little small, but perhaps it is to have one winner per store. Depending on turnout, some rural stores or those without a lot of participation may have less turnout and advance someone not as talented. If I'm not mistaken in 1990 it was a little better with several age ranges of I believe 4-7, 8-17, and an 18 and over group and ultimately one winner was chosen from each group.

Not that I would stand a chance nationally, well maybe I would, but because the nearest store to me is 705 miles (10 hrs) away, I won't be going. If they did have one in my state I would love to watch and participate.

Nico07 commented on Which Games are Coming to the Virtual Console?...:

I wouldn't be surprised to see maybe three Gamecube games appear as VC titles for E3 including: Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, and F-Zero GX. But hey, that's just my prediction.

Going a little off topic for E3 I would love to see Double Dash show up on Wii U VC or just get a special announcement that they will have Double Dash DLC for MK8 including all tracks, racers, carts for around $40 or less. Or just a general announcement that Retro is working on a new or remastered Metroid. Would also be great to hear if F-Zero on Wii U will actually be a thing.

I was seriously considering deleting the demo last night, so I am glad that I didn't! Looking forward to giving this another go before launch. And I already have it preordered at BestBuy for pickup on the 29th for $50 (GCU price), so I know what I'll be doing the next few weekends.

Attack on Titan looks good though I have no familiarity with the series, and if I didn't already have the NSMB cart I would probably pick this up. With new amiibo and Splatoon at the end of the month, I'll likely wait for a sale on Titan and NSMB.

Loved the song, especially the virtual tiger. Someone needs to start a petition to get this song in Guitar Hero Live, Wii U version. Full text below:

When you're playin with power, you gotta give it all your be-e-est.
When you're training for tomorrow, there's no time to re-est.
It's so high in the sky, you will fly, don't you cry, you gotta hit it with some zest!
You're a virtual tiger on the back of a big lion, that is riding a falcon, that is flying through some fire!
You're a digital eagle that is in a big volcano! (song cuts out)

I liked the demo though the times weren't great. Only disconnected three times in the matchmaking, never in game. I didn't notice any lag either and my internet connection is only 768K up. Not to mention we had two Wii U systems playing the demo at the same time in our house. As for the game it played great. I love the roller but could never get the hang of the long range gun. It would stink when you were on a team where most had the same weapon.

Nico07 commented on Producer Of The Mario Kart Series Appointed As...:

@Nintendian True, but hopefully it won't take him away from more MK8 DLC and MK9. Providing they are separate teams that he is heading I don't really see a problem, but I'd hate to see these console platforms take a big hit in development for a mobile game. At the same time though, I'm curious to see what they will develop, whether Mario Kart or something smaller, and how much it will cost. They obviously won't be making a $1-$5 MK8 port on a mobile platform.

I'm fairly certain that by mid year 2016 the 3DS will be replaced by Nintendo's next handheld. As for MK8 and Smash DLC, I'm not surprised but excited to see these platforms get additional support. I'm not worried about the inevitable Wii U replacement in probably 2017 or 2018 as it will offer new and unique gameplay with likely full 1080p support. And Nintendo has enough staff to support this.

@Shiryu I agree with you on Rogue Squadron, Factor 5 and LucasArts made a great set of games back in the day. The new Battlefront looks okay, but like you mentioned I don't expect much more than a Star Wars skinned Battlefield. And with EA publishing... probably a broken game for several months.

Nico07 commented on Disney Infinity 3.0 is Announced With Star War...:

@CharlyDunst It would be nice if all characters could play anywhere, but in 2.0 they added Toy Box tower defense and dungeon crawler modes for both Marvel and Disney respectively. This gave every character a structured set of levels to play through. They also added a skill tree for each character so that the experience you would earn could be put to use and you had to decide what talents to buy as you can't purchase them all. The racing though in all Infinity games has been at best pretty pathetic. I'm hoping with some more outside help this time that the game will be pretty good.

@Shiryu Unless you want to turn to the dark side and buy a PS4... but yeah there doesn't seem to be anything else for Star Wars on a Nintendo platform. I'm fairly optimistic that with help from Ninja Theory, Sumo Digital, Studio Gobo and United Front Games that Avalanche can produce a decent game to represent Star Wars.

Will be picking this up at launch, though I'm not sure how many extra figures I will pick up at launch. Olaf, and Tron characters for sure. I'm glad I passed on the digital only Tron figures of 2.0 as you had to buy them separately on iTunes and PC, yet all other character codes activate cross platform (strange). I'm still thinking that C-3PO and R2-D2 will not be playable figures but rather support characters. As for the game itself it looks to be pretty good with the talent they are bringing on board. The games themselves have been good, but they could definitely use help with their racing mechanic.

Nico07 commented on Yooka-Laylee Double-Jumps Through Final Kickst...:

Just backed it now myself for the console download. The N64 cartridge version description is a little confusing but intriguing. It sounds likely they are just encasing a USB drive with possibly the PC game on it in a N64 cartridge with box. Or did I read it incorrectly and they will be making a huge 64GB (not MB) cart version of the game playable on N64? Would love to see a physical retro version for N64 happen and would hope that some are made available later on for $99 or less. Also the stretch goal of the N64 shader mode was met, so I'm assuming a mode will be available or rather unlockable to have the option for N64 quality visuals? This project just keeps getting better and better.

Nico07 commented on Poll: Is It Time For a Fresh Alternative to th...:

I think the VC is ok. The problems I have are the time it takes for these titles to arrive. We need more N64 titles. The DS titles work but more control options are needed (Controller Pro). I know the DS uses a touchscreen but most games don't need it such as Mario Kart DS where its awkward to have a large Gamepad. As for N64 and Wii VC in North America looks to be done, three titles on each, really? We just want more. Sure N64 can play in the Wii VC, but my receiver won't display the emulated Wii mode on TV so Wii U mode is the only working method for me unless I want to connect directly to my TV... or just play with the Gamepad as a monitor.

@bluedogrulez You can actually unlock the Luke Skywalker landspeeder by playing as every character released in the current Infinity 2.0, complete with Star Wars theme. But yeah, they clearly show podracers in the boxart. Should be pretty good, but I wish Disney would just come out and confirm or deny some of these rumors themselves. I live about 30 minutes from Avalanche Studios, so I suppose I could stroll by and find out myself...

Nico07 commented on More Disney Infinity 3.0 Leaks Emerge With Sta...:

If true, it seems that the Clone Wars series characters are pretty polarizing for fans. I like the look of the series and think it would be a good fit for Infinity both toy and game play wise. Princess Leia, Yoda, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan, and possibly the later Darth Vader would all but be confirmed from the box art if true. C-3PO and R2D2 could be playable, but I would suspect they would likely be support characters in the story mode as they both would have very limited attack moves. But then again, if this is true, who would they opt for as the main villain in game... Anakin fighting (spoiler) himself?

Nico07 commented on Talking Point: Mario Kart 8 DLC is a Winning F...:

I think battle modes are my biggest hope for future DLC. Honestly we have a good selection of courses and characters, Nintendo has really given us a good balanced game with affordable DLC. But I would still love to see more levels/characters added in the future. I would pre-pay for any extra content they choose to release.

The only indicator I see in that they could be done with DLC (at least until September) is the fact that the game has amiibo support for Olimar who won't be released until September. This seems to indicate that the game is wrapped up until at least then. And at some point they will need to have the development team switch to MK9, but that will likely won't be until after they have finalized the hardware on the Wii U successor.

So we are about a month away from E3, and for North America the only releases we know of for Wii U pre-September are Paper Mario 64 next week, Tap Amiibo, and then Splatoon on May 29th. Hopefully during this last Direct before E3 we get the following:

1. Xenoblade Chronicles X release date (a given, but before September hopefully)
2. Next batch of N64 VC titles
3. Confirmation of more Wii VC titles in NA (Last Story, Xenoblade)
4. Confirmation of MK8 DLC pack 3 (battle arenas, one can dream big, right?)
5. Some brief footage of things to expect at E3 like Star Fox, Project Giant Robot, and Project Guard.
