Epic. The soap shoes are a super cool design, it'll be pretty cool to have the option.
Give me Shadow's shoes with the jet boosters!
Do they have to pay royalties for them anymore, considering Soap went out of business?
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are unplayable messes.
I genuinely do not understand other people's fondness for them. They are light years behind Mario 64's playability despite releasing years later. The following 3D Mario games surpass them even further.
There has yet to be a truly good 3D Sonic game nevermind a great one.
Frontiers looks like another mess.
@KindofaBigDeal
Has there been a good sonic game at all?
@WaffleBoat
The 2D games? Certainly. Sonic Mania was brill.
3D games? Nope, even the celebrated ones like Generations and Colours you spend half your time watching Sonic run loops and the rest of the time struggling to control him. Awful.
Edit: Sonic Racing Transformed is fantastic. Not mainline but should not be ignored if you want a Mario Kart alternative. Really needs a remake with 60fps at a decent resolution (the Xbox framerate boost version still looks like mush because of the low res)
@KindofaBigDeal
I don’t count mania because it wasn’t made by sega
@WaffleBoat
Ha! Fair enough. Aint that sign enough of how bad Sonic Team are.
And all I have to do is subscribe? Heck yeah! I’m so hyped for this.
@WaffleBoat It’s all opinion but my favorites ones that I consider good, are unleashed, colors (Even tho I think it’s pushing it to call it a 3d sonic game) generations, because that was great, and adventure 2, one I think is absolutely unplayable and just unfun but hey, if anyone likes it more power to ya.
'SONIC ADVENTURE TOOoOo'
It's such a small thing, but I'm honestly thrilled they're bringing the Soap shoes back. Adventure 2 is probably my most played game ever (which is absolutely bizarre to think) so the image of 2000's Sonic grinding on rails in those things is permanently seared into my brain. Rollin around at the speed of sound...
This is really cool, and it means the customisation isn’t limited to colour swaps this time. But this has me wondering, if they’re willing to give away the soap shoes for free, then what are they gonna be putting in the digital deluxe edition? Maybe licensed movie shoes, the extra cost would help cover those fees.
@Maulbert Didn't you just answer your own question, dummy?
@KindofaBigDeal
I actually played the Adventure games (Dreamcast versions) for the very first time last year, so I have no nostalgia for either one. I found the first game quite fun and extremely playable, with a few minor nitpicks (mainly fishing). I didn’t have a lot of fun with Adventure 2 except for the first few Sonic stages, but that’s a me issue, the game is definitely playable. I’ve heard many times that the re-releases of the games don’t work as well though.
Side note: Sonic Generations controls great.
And most people who have actually played Sonic Frontiers (especially the latest demo) really liked it and said it controlled great for the most part, so who are we viewers to judge if it’s a mess or not.
I just have to sign up? Ok hold on a sec…
edit: okay I’m back and I’m all signed up!
@FoxMcMuffin In my case flippers.
@Pandy-the-Panda you don’t have to like the games, but I just think it’s so odd that people think it’s going to be the worst thing ever even tho so many people liked it, so many people played it.
I mean a lot of people just don’t like sonic, and that’s just fine.
Gonna love rockin' these like its 2001!
Not bothered really. I'm not subscribing so they can spam my inbox just for a lousy pair of shoes. Thanks but no thanks.
@RubyCarbuncle
I just want to say that I’ve subscribed to 3 or 4 of these Sega newsletters in the past, and the only emails I’ve ever gotten were: a confirmed of sign up along with an advertisement, another advertisement at launch, and then the dlc code; after that it was just nothing. I personally never minded 4 emails in exchange for free stuff.
I’m in no way trying to convince you, I just wanted to mention that they’re pretty chill with the spam.
The game is not even out yet and we already got cut contents from the game? Really Sega?
@Maulbert The shoes were stylized after Soap shoes but it isn't an actual product of Soap.
Forget Soaps, give me a Chao Garden da**it!
What’s the point of this when we’re stuck with the boring un-dynamic rail grinding? SA2 had this fun Tony Hawk style momentum rails and some of the later levels took advantage of this high speeds and crazy jumps you could pull off with it but it Heroes gutted it along with everything else that felt good about SA2’s controls, Frontier’s uses the Unleashed take on it where it’s a glorified lane switching QTE where you cant anything dynamic with it which misses the point of what open world games are about.
😅I read this as 'free Sonic Adventure 2' for simply signing up to a newsletter.
Fantastic! Can't wait
I suppose if SEGA is gonna give me something to make up for the lack of Inugami Korone-themed DLC outside of Japan, SA2 shoes would be one way to go about it.
Why does it have to be so complicated?
Just put in the e shops of the consoles.
Would also take a Remastered of Sonic Adventure 2✌🏼
@Maulbert What @MalkynRei78 said is correct. SEGA had an advertising deal with SOAP so that they could include the SOAP logo in-game, but the shoes were designed by SEGA. That's why SA2 re-releases get rid of the SOAP logo but Sonic keeps the shoes, and also why they appear variously in comics, Forces and elsewhere.
Sweet! Love DLC for a game that isn't out yet and requires extra steps to unlock something already in the game files you downloaded!
Thats unexpected for free DLC sonic adventure 2 is one of my favourites good story and characters and of course best chao garden.
Cool. Different shoes. Neat.
Btw, it's amazing how many people will take literally any article about Sonic to crap on his games, over and over again. You don't like them. We get it. You've said this on every other article. But, there's a time and a place. The energy some people put into repeating that they don't like them again and again instead of just ignoring the article and moving on is staggering.
I hope this means that Sonic Adventure 2 will come to Switch
As much as it pains me to say this because all my sonic games are on switch currently but I’m gonna have to go with the PS5 version of frontiers.
@Pandy-the-Panda Oh that's fine. It's just based on past experience anything I've subscribed to in the past has always resulted in an explosion of emails. I might reconsider this now.
SA2 is my favourite one. What a great game!
Considering this is free. Its the SA2 Shoes, and gives you months to claim. Sounds like a win win to me. But I guess you could say I'm Biased
Not gonna lie, I got wayyyyyy too excited to see "Adventure 2 DLC". I thought for a brief moment that it would be sections of the game. Adventure 2 Battle on GC is still a game I play through annually.
But the real thing is, how long will the codes be active?
I'm not planning to get the game at launch, maybe a year later. And if it's like the Nightmare Zone of Sonic Lost World, they'll be timed. Unlike some of the eShop codes I got for my 3DS before I got one that lasted for years.
Lol so heels XDD
@KindofaBigDeal People like different things than you, even things like the Adventure, Unleashed, and Generations games. Imagine that.
@HammerGalladeBro you can redeem the code before you own the game.
@Lanmanna
I like Jaws the Revenge.
I still know it is rubbish though.
@KindofaBigDeal agreed SA was a bit of a mess, but it was only 2 years after SM64 which is alos massively overrated. Any 3D platformer without a camera stick is just horrible.
@elpardo1984
Huh, I didn't realise it was only 2 years (well two and a half) between the two. The difference in graphics at least is immense.
Mario is still perfectly playable today though and as a first attempt got a lot more right than it did wrong.
Sonic Adventure is just.....ugh.
@Lanmanna Thanks for the reminder. I keep forgetting you can do that.
3D is not gonna work for sonic, they should just make it a 2D game, like streets of rage 4.
@Pandy-the-Panda Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on Gamecube is great. It is the definitive 3D Sonic game.
No idea how the later versions (PS3, Xbox 360, Steam) hold up.
Sonic has had some serious blunders, but still some games ranging from decent to great. I'm in the camp that would rate Unleashed and Generations very highly, Sonic Heroes as a generally good game, and Colors as decent.
@KindofaBigDeal you sure it’s not because both games are just getting on in years I mean they were both released close to the turn of the millennium.
@KindofaBigDeal
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions I guess. I really loved SA1 and 2, as well as Heroes. Meanwhile I still couldn't get into a single Mario game, either 2d or 3d, they are just very slow and boring in my opinion.
@Key19 Forget that, just give me shadow!
@KindofaBigDeal You are a very Uneducated troll as Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are playable yes i get it you hate them but making up false reasons why you hate them only makes you look stupid.
@Eagly Yeezes are canceled!
@KindofaBigDeal there is a remake it's called a pc
@NinjaNicky I mean this was over a month ago when I made this comment and we hadn't seen any footage yet. People were literally just saying "it's going to be crap" on every single article before we'd seen anything. It was exhausting.
@NinjaNicky That's your opinion, and that's fine.
@NinjaNicky
The game runs very well on Nintendo Switch…
@NinjaNicky It's not a fact. I've seen plenty of footage, and it runs fine, in my opinion. In your opinion, it's not good enough. We can agree to disagree.
"Uhhh…let’s just say, if you have another option, please consider that other option. If you only have Switch then you can still have fun, I think…somewhat.”
Digital Foundry, John Linneman
@NinjaNicky I mean obviously it's not going to run multi-plat games as well as other current-gen consoles, it's basically a handheld PS3. What did you expect? Plenty of games still run fine on it, though. More power doesn't automatically equal a better game.
Can you play as Tails, Knuckles or any other characters in Frontiers?
@KindofaBigDeal Can confirm, just played through SA2. But I love it anyway.
All this coverage, and still not a review yet.
I just got my code, it was in my junk box despite getting every other sega email in my inbox
@KindofaBigDeal Sonic adventure controls great especially sonic. I'd agree that the mech sections are annoying, but outside of those the treasure collecting and sonic/shadow sections are great.
I just played the adventure games just a week or two ago and was very impressed with how well it holds up. I feel like I have more precise movements with sonic in the adventure series than mario in 64 or sunshine. All of which I recently played through, forgot how janky sunshine was.
I don't know if it's just me, the drinks or the fatigue- but the phrasing of this article initially had me puzzled thinking they were releasing Sonic Adventure 2 DLC for free if you subscribe to Sega's Onlyfans or something.
I know.. Before I head out, I'd just like to add that while admittedly absurd, I'd gladly take new Knuckles & Rouge stages and jazzy/funky soundtracks... or better yet just make Sonic Adventure 3.
... Wun can only hope.
