Update: Just to remind you, Nintendo's 'Try Before You Buy' sale is coming to an end very soon. You have until the 25th October – that's this upcoming Tuesday – to grab any deals that take your fancy. Find sale highlights and links to discounted eShop credit vouchers at our store in our original article below.
Original Article: Nintendo is offering a rather tasty discount on multiple eShop games this October. Between now and 25th October at 11:59pm PT, you can make savings on the best eShop games that have downloadable demos! So, if you grab a demo and really like it, you're not spending quite as many pennies. Or cents, we suppose!
And yes, you're not misreading the headline — this is the lowest price we've seen for last year's outstanding Metroid Dread. The game is currently 30% off on the NA eShop alongside a couple of other demo games such as Daemon X Machina, Miitopia, Yoshi's Crafted World, and Triangle Strategy — just to cherry pick a few.
With this and Ubisoft's Spooky Sale, there's a healthy dose of Switch games on sale for the haunted season. Here are Nintendo's picks:

The biggest discount yet-...oh, it's still just 30%. >_>
Metroid dread is a masterpiece everyone should play, great to see they haven't forgotten about it
By the way this was titled You would think that the game was practically free.
I hate that I knew it was going to be the same 30% off all Nintendo discounts always are.
Like, ARMS and Sushi Striker are ancient at this point, would it kill them to make them $20 or something?
ARMS being $42 more than 5 years after release seems a bit excessive. That game probably should have been 1 of the "Nintendo Selects - Players Choice" games for $30 two years ago.
@sneaky_sasquatch Ooh, nice Coindexter avatar. 👍
I know that's not it's real name, it's just what my family calls it. 😁
Really should have come to Switch.🤷♂️
If you're at all interested in Metroid or ARMS, you'd be hard pressed to see them go for lower prices than these. Absolutely pick them up if you're able. Dread is an excellent single player experience that makes you feel so darn cool, and ARMS is one of my absolute favorite games and a wonderful multiplayer title.
At the very least give them there demos a go
Now might be the time to bite on Yoshi’s Crafted World
@Kyloctopus I'd very much not recommend it. Liked Woolly World a lot but Crafted World just feels extremely plodding.
Metroid Dread wasn't bad, but it was pretty meh & uninspired imo given how many Metroidvania's there are now and the numerous interesting takes there have been in the genre since 2D Metroid was the flagbearer. Hollow Knight, Cave Story, Ori, Rogue Legacy and heck even Dandara (among others) were more interesting to me than Dread. About to start Ender Lillies soon too.
That being said I can't wait for the return of 3D Metroid with Prime 4 and still hope Metroid Fusion & Zero come to Switch in a Game Boy NSO App soon.
... Wun can only hope.
Would anyone recommend Box Boy + Girl? I'm on the fence if I'm interested or not.
I bought that game metroid dread on launch, I played it for about an hour but the bosses are very hard, I consider super metroid on snes the best ever metroid game, I remember playing metroid one on nes in the hospital when I was sick with phnemonia and it was hard too, I might pick up metroid dread again later
@Lizuka
I didn’t really like crafted world that much. Nintendo seemed to think the only thing people loved about wooly world was the art style. But to be fair, it is just my opinion. My brother loves crafted world. There is a demo out there though.
Metroid Dread feels like a good deal at this price. I enjoyed it a lot, but thought it was a bit short on content for full price.
Sam & Max are good point and clicks, but if you're able to play on PC instead, the original versions are better, because of some weird content trimming, and cheaper.
1. Buy Warioware Get it Together.
2. I give my friend code
3. Let´s compete on weekly Wario Cup online!!!
@Lizuka Given how well a lot of Nintendo's games continue to sell over time at around full price, it's probably smarter business to avoid doing big discounts in general. Not worth the risk of consumers getting the idea that they can just wait for a sale.
@BenAV That is the point, whether you agree or not. They've seen that their content retains value over time, a very different strategy to others who have 50% off sales after a few months.

@GuyProsciutto
What was the point of this comment. If the guy wants to do the sign off thing then let him. It doesn’t effect you in any way, and they aren’t doing anything wrong.
@strollin_stu Same. If Ubisoft didn’t devalue their games so fast it makes me feel stupid for paying full price, I would’ve bought this day 1. Looks great and I loved the first game.
I have no idea what your twist is, and I don’t want to
@Joeynator3000 I dunno 30% is always a good discount on things. I mean saving $20 USD is still a fair amount off a game. The only amount off a game I tend to get a chuckle over is 10%. That I go " "Oooh thank you for me saving the whole $6... what a discount."
@ketrac Slightly off-topic, but with Ubisoft+ basically doing the whole game drops on the service the same day as retail, I won't even bother buying the games at discount (unless I know I'll replay them). I mean for $20 and I get to play Assassin's Creed Mirage for a month and probably finish it and save $50? YAY! And with Ubisoft's predatory Season Pass prices... I see no reason to buy the game anymore till they are basically $30 for the ultimate editions... Ubisoft sure loves devaluing their games while at the same time price gouging their loyal customers.
Considering that WarioWare: Get It Together! is one of the few Switch retail games I want digital, that's certainly tempting and is the best price I've seen so far. The rest of the discounts I can either ignore or already own.
@Joeynator3000 @Lizuka @rjejr 30% off would be great if they were physical titles. Digital titles need deeper discounts.
@wuntyme8 If you like puzzle games, I totally recommend BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL!.
@Wexter the answer is yes.
@strollin_stu Yep, anything by Ubisoft automatically goes into the 'wait for a sale' pile. Didn't buy Immortals Fenyx Rising at launch for that reason and within weeks it was like less than half price but even then I was like nah if it's already this cheap this quickly then let's hold out and eventually just picked up a copy at bargain bin price.
Ubisoft has so many sales that you might as well start reporting when their games are selling for full price and not the other way around. Same goes for Capcom.
Thanks! Metroid isn’t really my thing, so I picked up Triangle Strategy instead
Metroid Dread is £20 in Smyths atm, still a few copies left around the country for anyone looking for a bargain
All these games often go cheaper at retail. There are more options than the eShop.
@GuyProsciutto Haha no worries. I could see how it might get a bit tiresome for some, but tbh it's not that deep for me. It's all in good gaming fun. I was actually inspired by @BloodNinja 's "NINJA APPROVED" tagline wayback when I joined this site- cudos to you Ninja! I think signatures are a nice personal signoff. In any case, I'd just ignore it if I were you to avoid feeling such feelings.
... Wun can only hope... that's not too bothersome of a tactic for you. 🙃
@blindsquarel Agreed and appreciate it!
@Tandy255 Good to know! I might just pick it up! I've actually been playing more puzzle-esque games on Switch as of late (i.e. Manifold Garden, Portal Collection, Part-Time UFO, Gorogoa- all of which I'd also recommend). Thanks!
@GuyProsciutto you name yourself after some ham and accuse someone of being cringey? were the other options GuySalami or GuyPepperoni? the irony...
besides @wuntyme8 ain't hurting no wun!
@sneaky_sasquatch It's a good game but to me personally it's far from a Masterpiece. The E.M.M.I were just annoying and everytime I encountered one I just let out one big sigh. The first Metroid Prime is my favourite game and I've played all of them since the first Metroid on the NES.
@Koffyman Crafted World is a great game. Quite relaxing to play and keeps you coming back for more as you try to find the hidden objects in all the stages. Highly recommended!
@Gradius Haha No Wun! I see what you did there! I asked the NLife DJ's to dedicate this next song to you my good fellow!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rywUS-ohqeE&ab_channel=aliciakeysVEVO
... Wun can only hope.. you enjoy it!
@Tandy255 Sorry, I don't see a 30% discount off of a 5 year old video game as great. Mayne if it was the Complete Directors Cut edition, but it's still just the same game it was 5 years ago w/ a couple of characters added.
Physical should be $30, digital should be $20.
@wuntyme8 Thanks, I thought you might appreciate that! Hopefully using your pun doesn't make too many other people cringe; I'd hate to embarrass myself to a bunch of anonymous strangers on the NL site!
@rjejr I am with you! Metroid Dread and WarioWare are new enough, but many of the other titles are way overdue to be re-released as discounted Select titles.
@wuntyme8 That put a smile on my face.
Thanks for that!
NINJA APPROVED
People need to show up for it. It's by far the best game in the series( at least for the 2d outings).
I don't know why 30% off isn't good enough for some of you. I'd guess it's the final price ($41.99) that's unappealing and not the percentage itself. Or maybe people just like being contrarian, or feel entitled.
I might pick Metroid Dread up at 30% off. That's the most you'd get for a game like this and I really enjoyed the demo.
My bank is not a fan of that eshop code website. Both of my cards were declined and I got fraud alerts several times.
@wuntyme8 Dread wasn't all that innovative other than the EMMI stuff, and that seemed to be divisive among players although I enjoyed it. But what it was was very solid, with some of the best boss battles ever IMO. It didn't do much new and it didn't reach the heights of Hollow Knight, but it was a great experience and I had a hell of a lot of fun playing it. PS ignore the haters, I'm a fan of the corny sign-off.
@rjejr It's not too late... we could win profile pictures, and they could restrict it to NSO subs and have us put in ~100 platinum points per play...
One can only dream
@Tandy255 Yeah I have no problem w/ Metroid at $40, that is a good deal for a relatively new game, but 5 year old release titles like ARMS and 1 2 Switch are different.
@sneaky_sasquatch It's too late for Switch, maybe Switch 2.
It was such a cool little marketing tool, felt like each week the rabbit would tell us about a new game coming out and we'd get some new badges. Maybe Nintendo felt like Switch didn't need it b/c we already have those games on Wi U.😂
I kind of feel bad for whoever created the character and it's personality to have it just die, it seemed worth keeping around in some capacity. 🤷♂️
Got Dread with MS rewards points. Feels like a win.
Yoshis crafted world should be 20 bucks
I can’t help but think Metroid at 30% off means physical copies seeing the same discount on Black Friday. I’ll probably get it then.
@Divide_and_Wander
There will probably be a better discount. At Walmart they are usually around 30 dollars.
@wuntyme8 Metroid Dread is uninspired cause it don't need to as it was the originator of the genre to begin with. It don't need to be inspired by anything, everything had to be inspired by it which is why they used the Metroidvania formula.
Sushi Striker for $35 on a freaking sale is absolutely unacceptable. It was always a $20 game.
You caused me to freak out when you said "biggest sale ever" when the discount rate is 0% greater than what Nintendo brought historically for the Switch.
Ori > Metroid Dread.
And Ori is cheaper.
Metroid Dread does not deserve my $42.
Maybe $14,90...
@Kyloctopus Yeah. The new Yoshi game is really pretty with great music. I hope you like it.
@NeonPizza tbh, I haven't started it yet. I put it in the backlog to play after XC3.
