Re: Nintendo Switch "Lifetime US Unit Sales" Surpass Xbox 360

@ninty_junkie77 that’s an interesting thought, but reflective of the times then and now. It would be difficult for Nintendo to have both a handheld and dedicated home console now. Look how much MSFT is struggling against Sony with near unlimited resources. I did think that it would be intriguing for Nintendo to release a dedicated home console, then in essence have the Switch be handheld. Maybe even have the Switch interact with said home console as a third screen. The main reason it is selling so well is that it filled the need that the other two couldn’t….a console experience on the go.

You are probably right about software when taken together, but Wii Sports notwithstanding, it seems this allows for a better environment for franchises to thrive- Animal Crossing, Zelda, Pikmin, Smash etc. seem to be doing better separately.

Re: Video: Where Does Mario Kart Go From Here?

It will be subscription/live service oriented….. I hope there’s a base game, plus season pass that can be purchased. They will have seasonal updates with tournaments and mini-games, somewhat like Tour. I hope they have new characters and IPs….Kirby, Star Fox, Fire Emblem, Bayonetta, Xenoblade, Metroid tracks and circuits….

Re: Feature: Why I Still Love My Wii U

@Croctopus it was confusion over the name. Lack of marketing. I also think that it was poorly timed bc tablets and phones were where a lot of casuals went. Why buy a WiiU when I can get a tablet or just play games on the phone? It also didn’t have the killer app.

Conversely, the Switch was the killer app in and of itself. The ability to play console games on the go is pretty much what sold it.

I was a little surprised with the lack of sales bc I had a 20 year absence from gaming and thought the GamePad was amazing, even if not completely portable. I was also very impressed with the graphics bc I had last owned a SNES. It freed up the TV and allowed me to still spend time with the family. I figured there was an audience for this functionality, but I guess not.

Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass - A Great Big Track Pack For Switch's Best Racer

This is tough. I think 9 is definitely too high. I am far from a graphics guy, but the textures on half the courses look so cheap. A lot of the tracks a rather boring. For as much $$$$$ that this has made. (Probably $4 billion with WiiU numbers included), more unique tracks should have been made, especially for those of us who have been fans for nearly ten years now.

That said, for the price the value is unmistakable. Love the new characters. It has added about 25 hours for me and I could see myself playing another 25 hours easily. There are some good to excellent tracks, so it’s difficult to not recommend this. I want to give this a higher score, but it’s hard for me to overlook the cheap and laziness here by Big N. So, I think a 7 on the low end- 8 if I am feeling generous. This could have been so much better with just a little more effort.

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

There’s too many performance issues due to weak hardware on the Switch. We tend to overlook this bc most of the time, we are happy to just have a port of a game on the Switch than not. But even Nintendo’s own titles are starting to struggle.

Nintendo is probably thinking that it can sell more systems by forcing people to upgrade, but I think the opposite will be true. I would rather wait for the library to grow if this is the case.

Re: Random: Xbox Marketing Wanted To "Avoid Calling Switch A Console"

@larryisaman this is how I see it. I have barely used mine in docked mode. I suppose I could get a pro controller, but I don’t like the joy cons unless attached to the system. Let’s be honest here, when compared to even an Xbox One or Ps4 it’s really much mor like a handheld that can be played as a console than vice versa.
