They could treat the Switch almost like a handheld…and the new Switch for more sophisticated games. They can still sell to their massive install base on certain games for casuals….this way they keep people locked into their eco system….

There’s too many performance issues due to weak hardware on the Switch. We tend to overlook this bc most of the time, we are happy to just have a port of a game on the Switch than not. But even Nintendo’s own titles are starting to struggle.

Nintendo is probably thinking that it can sell more systems by forcing people to upgrade, but I think the opposite will be true. I would rather wait for the library to grow if this is the case.

@Enigk I agree with you. That said, I can’t imagine that many people doing this. If they are a fan of the series, they probably already have it. A lot will double dip like I did with Advance Wars.

@samuelvictor I like and still get physical copies. I am moving more in the direction of digital tho, at least with Ps5 and Xbox. I like the idea of a complete edition for certain games. So maybe in certain cases this will make sense, if for no other reason, preservation

For a game that’s not a Nintendo title, this is so Nintendo….it’s too bad this wasn’t their creation instead of 1-2 Switch

@samuelvictor the problem with physical these days is two fold- games are becoming so massive- some take two disks. Worse tho, is how they are constantly updating. A disk is almost becoming useless. Even with Nintendo and smaller games, there’s always an update….

@larryisaman this is how I see it. I have barely used mine in docked mode. I suppose I could get a pro controller, but I don’t like the joy cons unless attached to the system. Let’s be honest here, when compared to even an Xbox One or Ps4 it’s really much mor like a handheld that can be played as a console than vice versa.

@Keman to be fair, I don’t think the rumor was that the new Switch was as powerful as a Ps5, but rather, that the games look just as good and run as smoothly as a Ps5….just guessing that they managed to accomplish some things technically to achieve similar results with less power.

@mariomaster96 is Peachette that much different than Peach? I get they might want another female character, but this is pretty lazy….

I am not expecting anything too big if for no other reason, Nintendo is probably saving the big hitters for the next system. My guess will be some random, out of the blue Game Cube remaster in addition to an F Zero remaster….

Spy vs Spy….would be an obscure remake, but cool.

@Grumblevolcano sad? It has only been nearly a decade since we have had a proper console Mario Kart. The Tour tracks are mostly meh….a new entry is long overdue….

Rayman Legends was truly amazing. I know there’s a lot of excitement for Mario Wonder, but I question whether it will measure up to Rayman. Don’t get me wrong, I am sure that Nintendo will deliver its magic here.

I am definitely getting this game day one and I am quite excited for it….. I’m glad it had its own direct in that if they have another direct, they can focus on other games and developments….. that said, I personally could do without this direct. I get that Nintendo wants to market this and I am sure there’s some remarkable stuff in it, but at the end of the day, it’s just a 2d platformer.

@Maxz I have had similar thoughts on what Nintendo’s expectations were for MK8D when they released it on the Switch…..i bet it gets close to 60 million….throw in the 8 million that it sold on WiiU….

@Ironcore the tables are good but the interface is awful and load times are terrible…..this is on the series x, so I can’t imagine what they are like on the switch. I am guessing it is more of a server issue bc I can’t imagine a pinball game taking this long to load.

Cool…I remember a game by EA way back when called Archon. Sort of chess but you had to fight for the win… more like fantasy and with knights, soldiers and creatures… always wanted a more modern version… will check this out

You nailed Mario…. I am with you 100 percent…. He really is boring as a character, but but somehow manages to draw you into his world. I hardly ever race, golf, party or fight as Mario, but put Mario on a game and there’s a good chance I will buy it.

@Bunkerneath @EaglyBird plus they need something to sell the next system…. I won’t drop $400 to play a port of a decade old game.

@MeatSauce the load times are ridiculous for something like this and I am on my Series X. Also hate that we have to be online….that said, they are some cool tables.

My one disappointment with the Switch is no Madden. I know this is not Nintendo’s fault, other than maybe having an underpowered system. That said, I wish they could have made a gimped version. I bet it would have sold 3-4 million, if not more.

@Dark_Knight I am pretty sure it’s just a timed exclusive….will probably come out later for Xbox and Pc…

I think it has a chance, especially if they keep as a low cost option. They did it for a while with the 2ds. It will get a nice boot in the fall with the new Mario game and will have a decent holiday season, I am sure.

@MisanthropyAGoGo how is the difficulty? I am definitely on the casual side of gaming. I get frustrated easily with difficulty spikes….

@nmanifold as much as I love having 48 courses, it feels like a lot of the content is bland filler material. Granted, at just $24.99 or as a bonus for being a subscriber, it’s still a great value. But considering that this has sold well over 60 million if you count the WiiU version, plus DLC, it really shouldn’t have been an issue to put more effort into this. Throw in that the mobile version has made a decent chunk of change and probably even served as a marketing vehicle for the Switch to sell more systems …..I just feel that Nintendo could have put more effort, polish and fresh content into this….

No Everybody 1-2 Switch? Or does it have a different release date in the UK?

@h15c0r3r I am not one to complain about graphics and textures, but some of the Tour tracks look so bland….

@AtlanteanMan agreed…some of them are ok, but I think it’s so lazy….they are mostly pretty bland.

@Agent_P I won’t summarily dismiss it, but I kinda agree that this is an odd and rather unsavory setting for a track….it might still be fun to race in spite of the strange environment….

I hope they can squeeze Shy Guy Bazzar and Wario Ship on the final wave…,

@Waluigi451 they do have to be somewhat careful as this is what they did with the Wii….milked everything possible out of it….and then lost momentum with new system. I am hoping for a November 2024 launch….maybe we get more out of the next system with specs if we wait just a bit longer, and that’s fine with me.

This would be the 3ds port that makes most sense. It was a cool game, but very awkward to control….

It’s not like there’s anything at stake here, but Pikmin 1&2 should have been bundled for the purposes of this list….

@FishyS I wish Nintendo forgot it exists…. Kinda like how they forgot the WiiU existed….(I love the WiiU, but just seemed to have erased it from their collective consciousness….)

It’s Schrödinger’s console…. It does compete with the other consoles and it doesn’t compete with the other consoles…..I think it does in the sense that Joe Consumer might just get one console….for that guy, just wanting to get a taste of gaming, or a parent wanting to get something for their kids…. Nintendo is a very real competitor. But for the graphics guys and and hardcore gamers, Nintendo is barely an afterthought in a lot of cases.

So Nintendo is comprised of three audiences….the dreaded casual, the die hard Nintendo fans and then a subset of gamers than all three. So yeah, this acquisition will not affect Nintendo like the other two, if for no other reason, diversity in audience.

Glad for those who want this, but the 3ds version is fine for me. I am sure it will look great, but if I am going to get a remaster, I think u get more bang for your buck with Mario RPG….

I will be happy if we get something like Mario Baseball and F Zero remaster….really not expecting much. Wouldn’t be surprised if they just drop the new tracks for MK8D….

@-wc- I understand the business decision to not release a Switch specific MK, but I wish they have us at least 16 new tracks. What they are doing right now is so lazy and borderline criminal. Even then, it isn’t bad value for $25…. But it could be much better.

@-wc- I agree with some of what you are saying. As much as I don’t care for the overall direction of MK8d, I will still put a hundred hours into it. Pikmin 3 was still a good game. Smash Bros- tons of content. With some exceptions, I think you get your $$$$ and then some with Nintendo, even if not the same as the good ole days…

@-wc- the two massive disappointments were Mario Strikers and Wii Sports. Otherwise Nintendo has been pretty consistent. I am going to guess this will be a solid 8 out of ten ….

@Chibi_Manny except that they aren’t all new levels…. Most are recycled. As I mentioned above, I am not huge on graphics and textures but some of the tracks are so lazy. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the new content. I just think there’s more Nintendo can do with the franchise.

@Grumblevolcano I hope they release more content and I would not be surprised if they did. But I would also not be surprised if they didn’t. It would be a good way for them to generate revenue in between systems. That said, Nintendo has been pretty lazy. I am not one to be too critical of textures and graphics but several, but not all, tracks look so drab and plain. And I wish they would have incorporated anti gravity somehow with the Tour tracks. I wouldn’t be shocked if they called it a day on the game just like Animal Crossing….
