@NinjaWaddleDee First off, Federation Force isn't even out yet, so calling it trash doesn't make sense. Try again after you've played it.
Second, Metroid's never not been a creepy game and as far as Nintendo's titles go, it's the most "realistic."
I did not grow up with the SNES, but I have played pretty much every Metroid title (as I'm sure you have as well) with the exception of Pinball. This demo doesn't look or feel like Metroid to me in any way and I'd be personally offended if Nintendo made the next Metroid look anything like this. In my opinion, Metroid Prime looks better than this demo by a long shot. Prime has better lighting, atmosphere, and effects than this demo and, most importantly, it feels like Metroid.
This demo is not Metroid and I really don't think it looks good in the slightest. If ANY game came out looking like this, I can see the reviewers tearing it apart on visuals alone.
I really hope people are kidding when they say stuff like... "This looks good." "I want the next Metroid to look like this!" "THIS IS WHAT WE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN INSTEAD OF FEDERATION FORCE!"
In my opinion, this looks bad and it doesn't have the feel or atmosphere of any Metroid I've ever played. Hell, you all give Other M so much flak, but I'd rather play that over THIS any day.
Only things I'd really want from Miiverse would be the ability to post screenshots for all games and a messaging system for BOTH Wii U and 3DS with the ability to message between the two.
Otherwise, I can't say that I've used Miiverse that often lately.
I honestly can't wait for this game to come out and be a solid 8/10 so everyone can shut up already...
This is why I don't get my expectations impossibly high.
Like, seriously, I go into E3 and Directs expecting no more than information on previously announced titles. Any new reveals are surprises to me and I want to learn more. Have there been games I hadn't been interested in? Of course, but it's still nice to have an optimistic approach as opposed to getting upset that the [strong]specific game I wanted didn't show up[/em].
...and for the record, I like Other M. Is it the best game ever? No. Is it the best Metroid ever? Hell no. Is it a functional and fun game? In my opinion, yes. If it was called anything other than "Metroid" I guarantee it'd be an obscure Wii gem.
Okay, Slightly Mad. That's fine. I hope your game has fun competing against Forza and Gran Turismo as well as the other third party racing heavy hitters.
I'll just use the money I could have spent on your game elsewhere.
They'll have to wait until the game's on store shelves (with mostly positive reviews) if they want to see my money...and judging from the current state of Project Cars on other platforms...this could just be developer laziness.
My brother and I played the heck out of Dragon Quest VIII. The only games that saw nearly as much play time were Kingdom Hearts II and Champions of Norrath.
@OneBagTravel My purchasing decision depends on the information we'll get in future Nintendo Directs. None of the games look bad by any stretch and I'm still appalled by the childishness of some of...those people.
To properly answer your question, I'll probably pass on Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival as I don't always have friends around to play such a game. The Zelda game looks interesting and, so far, I see no reason to NOT buy it. It's still Zelda after all. Stacks are just going to be a new tool to solve puzzles. As for Metroid Prime: Federation Force, it does look interesting and I will probably grab it after I've heard what the game will offer to the lone player.
@Mario_Fart I'd weep if Star Fox was supposed to compete with Battlefront and if Starfox looked bad. But since neither of those are true, I'll be fine.
As for Nintendo's relevance, it would have been impossible to do without Zelda (which Nintendo already said wasn't going to be shown) especially next to Fallout 4, Uncharted 4, Battlefield, and Halo. Of course, those are all the big guns. I imagine even with Zelda, "relevance" would be a challenge.
I'm satisfied with this Digital Event and I look forward to more information on all of these games in Directs in the future. Anyone who isn't was expecting Nintendo to give them the moon as well as free games for buying the Wii U.
I think literally everyone that's upset needs to chill out.
We ARE getting Directs in the future that will announce more Wii U games. It's not like this is the only announcement of games Nintendo has.
Also, a lot of people are complaining about stuff that we didn't hear much about. Like, at all. We saw FOOTAGE from Metroid Prime Federation Force and everyone wrote it off.
You see, this is why I go to E3 with no expectations. I see what I see and I'm surprised by the surprises. You all apparently go into E3s and Directs expecting Metroid Prime, Super Mario Galaxy 3, Zelda U, Pikmin 4, New IPs 1-6, Announcement for Splatoon 2, all third parties returning on their knees, Final Fantasy exclusivity, new hardware, every game from Japan localized, Mother 4 (3 bundled in), New IPs 7-10, and a patch for analog triggers.
If you set the bar to impossibly high standards, you'll always be disappointed. Always. And you guys ALWAYS are.
Geez.
8/10. Good showing. Still buying a PS4 at some point though because I refuse to miss out on Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Also, we're not getting a sequel... Regardless of how this rumored port sells. If Ubisoft was going to give us a sequel, we likely would have had it by now.
This'll just be Resident Evil Revelations 2 all over again.
Well, if this is true, I don't expect it to be the ZombiU we played...simply because it would be impossible. The GamePad integration streamlined menus in a way that can't be done effectively without a second screen. On top of that, the map was a necessity that would just add to screen clutter (and they'd have to find another way to do pings). Then, once you factor all of that out of it, the multiplayer can't work at all without a second screen.
I thought ZombiU was great and it was one of the reasons I bought a Wii U. Of course, why would a PS4 or One owner get it? They've already got Dying Light... ZombiU is no Dying Light. Unless they completely overhaul the ZombiU control scheme, the game will be too slow paced for the average gamer...I mean, look at how fast paced other zombie themed games are. Maybe it'll see an audience with the Dark Souls/Bloodborne fanbase...
I've only been playing Stealth Inc. 2 and Splatoon these past few days.
I will admit that Woah Dave! and OlliOlli were a lot better than I thought they'd be...as for The Fall, I'm REALLY excited to keep playing that (but Splatoon, though...)
@Ichiban I was actually thinking about a controller like this before I went to bed last night.
Pro Controller/Classic Controller set up. Motion controls built in (similar to sixaxis with PlayStation) and an IR pointer on the top of the controller.
Didn't find the scroll or see this article before sleep, so...I guess I'm just on the right wavelength.
AGH! I've already spent SO MUCH MONEY on games this past week with the Humble Bundle, Splatoon, and finding a working PlayStation at Goodwill, I'm almost BROKE!!
But I have to grab Don't Starve before I actually stop murdering my wallet.
Japanese Direct? Well, I'll probably wake up early (or stay up late) to see it, but I don't think there'll be too much info or any relevant info to me...because E3's only a few weeks away.
@ecco6t9 That's great and all, but by then the game will be 2-3 years old and no one will care if it's coming to the NX or not...and on top of that, we don't even know what the NX is.
If the NX is a home console, yipee, it gets a game no one cares for anymore.
If it's a handheld, then yipee, the game comes out on the Wii U (or not) and it either A) ends up being a sub-par version just to shut the "wailing" Wii U owners up or B) comes out so much later than the other versions that it's the Watch_Dogs situation all over again.
We always prefer to aim for 30fps generally in order to keep gameplay-specific features like having more cars on track or better weather effects etc.
So that’s standard across all consoles, and we’re more likely to utilize the native 720p support of the Wii U for launch especially since our physics and rendering systems demand a lot of processing power in order to deliver a truly next-gen experience.
All you need to know is that when you get the game, it’ll look and feel amazing and you’ll want to show it off to your friends.
the gamepad just screams new innovations for gameplay and is a perfect match when thinking about using the gyroscope as a handheld wheel like in mario kart wii and showing data on the screen such as a map, telemetry, speedo, or rear view mirror. When you couple that with miiverse functionality and community it’s a no-brainer.
Interviewer: regarding the wii u version, how are you going to use the gamepad? Will it have off-tv? Will it use the gyro sensor? Will you be able to use the touch screen to change the camera angles?
Tudor: as soon as the wii u was announced we were like `oh my god, this looks amazing! We need to work on this´. There are loads of ways to use the gamepad: As the rear-view mirror, or the parameters screen or for storing all hud elements, or using the gyro to control the car...
There are lots of opportunities with the wii u gamepad, and we want to use it as much as we can because it´s so cool! There´s also miiverse, which lets people post screen and post their thoughts on a game... The wii u is full of opportunities. Interviewer: what features of the madness engine will be cut down for the wii u version in comparison to the pc build?
Tudor: well, you´ll need to talk to our code team about that (laughs). But i can tell you that we´re making all the versions at the same time, so it´s not like we´re making the pc version and then we port it to consoles afterwards.
But obviously, each console has its strengths and weaknesses, so the code team will have to make compromises and work out what suits each platform´s strengths better. The pc version, on the other hand, is going to be amazing! It will have the best resolution and the best graphics, obviously.
What we´re going to make sure is that the wii u version is not the worst one, it won´t be a crappy version. We want people to get the game and say `holy s***, that looks amazing!´
we obviously delayed until 2015, and there were some passionate people who got in touch with us about that. There's no conspiracy here - we announced the wii u very early on in our development cycle, and some people think because we've been working on it a lot longer so it should be out now. The xbox one version looks wicked, the pc version looks awesome, so does the ps4 version. It's not our goal to rush the wii u version and have it not look as good as the other ones.
The nintendo fans we've got are crying out for a game like this. They don't really have that experience currently, and there hasn't really been anything like it on wii previously. It's not our job to disappoint those guys. So when we say the wii u version is delayed in 2015 because we need a little more time, that's all it is. We just want to make sure it's of the same standard of all the other games. To do that, we just need a little more time. I've seen the wii u version, i've seen it quite regularly. It's got dynamic time of day, weather - it looks phenomenal. And the actual console itself is quite good.
We started the project as a Free to Play PC racing game. That's where more than 95% of the funding was raised. It later (by the choice of the backers) changed to a standard console release on last gen.
This then changed (by decision of the backers) to a standard console release on next gen systems.
We don't want to put out anything sub-par to Nintendo fans.
We're already profitable and all backers will be getting more than they put in. I think you'd struggle to sue on the basis of making a profit on your investment while SMS consider pressing ahead with WiiU or going to the next Nintendo machine.
Now stop wailing please.
...we still haven't given up on the WiiU version, we are though looking to see if it makes more sense to move it to new Nintendo hardware, just as we did with Xbox and Playstation, to get the framerates up.
To move above 23 or so FPS we would need to cut the graphics back substantially, remove weather and dynamic time of day and use an earlier tyre model (not Seta). This is a simple hardware reality we can not avoid.
And yes, I remember the survey, that's the only reason we haven't given up yet. Having said that, I don't want a sub par version of pCARS out there.
The only way Nintendo could "get back" a fraction of its lost fans would be to make a system that rivals the next PlayStation or Xbox, have the same games, and get rid of the Nintendo IPs.
While it hurts me to say this, I have to accept that it's how the rest of the gaming world thinks. No one wants to play Nintendo anymore. No one cares about Mario or Samus or Kirby or even Pokemon outside of Nintendo gamers.
If Nintendo wants these fans back without copying the competition point-for-point, they'll have to change how they approach gaming. They'll have to make people want to play Nintendo again...but that's basically a long shot.
I might grab a LEGO game again at some point in the future...of course, there's still plenty of side things I can do in LEGO City Undercover...
This does look interesting, though, and I've always enjoyed the LEGO games I did get.
On a bit of a side note, I personally feel that the LEGO games are great as far as movie tie-ins go. Nice mix of gameplay styles, follows the story pretty well, and they're fun and solid games overall.
I might be able to play a few rounds, but I get OFF at 6pm. Also, my brother will be back home from college by then, so plans with him may get in the way, too.
If I get to play the Testfire again, I'll be happy, but if not, I'll see you guys when the game comes out less than a week later.
I recently bought a GameBoy Advance for around $30 and an SP for about $40-$45. I don't think this $70 substitute is worth it...at least, not where I live.

It's a solid game that deserves its 7/10. I tried playing the tribute game online, but it's just...TOO complicated for me.
This is nice, while still offering a challenge (in World Mode anyway) that's from the game and not the controls.
