Nintendo has just confirmed that a Japanese Nintendo Direct broadcast will take place this Sunday, May 31st. The focus of the video will be Wii U and 3DS games which are releasing this Summer.
7PM Japan-time is when it will all happen, which works out as 3AM PT, 6AM ET, 11AM UK time and 12PM in Europe.
The stream - which obviously won't be active until Sunday - can be found here. We'll be broadcasting it with a live blog and chat here on Nintendo Life, naturally.

Stability Updates!
Kind of close to E3. I have a feeling it may be a Fire Emblem specific direct.
SMT X FE release date possibly?
If it is just Japanese, that makes sense as E3 is more for the west.
@ikki5 was thinking the same. E3 for us, direct for the summer for them.
I wonder if they announce anything about Mario's 30th? I hope so.

@ikki5 Yes, but I think they should know that a lot of us still look at their Japanese directs anyways, so if it would be similar to their E3 one, then they would be spoiling the event.

None of these things are as regional as they used to be. Be it E3, Tokyo Game Show, or European Gamescom. They are used by global audiences for information and game news.
Nintendo should know better, so this Direct this close to E3 is confusing. I don't expect any big reveals or anything for it, otherwise they'd completely upend any impact E3 would have. They're probably just taking time to hand out some Japanese release dates of a few titles and oodles of DLC that they don't want to do at E3.
@Quorthon Yo-Kai Watch Busters. Exclusive Japanese exclusives that will never be localized™. Perhaps, Persona Emblem may actually be ready for a summer release.

Obviously they will talk about FE: IF, Project Mirai DX, Yo-Kai Watch busters, and Splatoon. But one could hope for more SMT X FE information.
@Quorthon Even if they did have a few events around E3 in Japan... how would a direct be confusing? Over all, they may get some announcements but in the end, E3 is primarily a non Japan thing. Them watching it would be like us watching their directs. They are not really meant for us but they still give us some info.

Well this is a surprise to see just before E3—a good one
I doubt they would give away their E3 secrets so soon. I think it'll be a Fire Emblem special with a few minor announcements like some bizarre jprg/puzzle/karaoke title we've never heard of or Japan-only bundles.

Well this is interesting. Not really expecting any new game announcements since it is so close to E3 so maybe it really is just Fire emblem if and maybe some small-name japan exclusive games.
I bet they are going to announce more Home Themes for 3DS.

Well id like to see more on Rhythm Tengoku the best plus. And a 3ds theme for west players whilst we wait for next year. And im still waiting for pokemon red and blue and yellow to be on the 3ds vc and hoping gba will be a virtual console on the 3ds.

I wish we'd get one for the Americas, too, to get stuff like release dates out of the way before E3. I want E3 to focus on shiny new stuff instead of games we've already seen a lot of (including ones I can't wait to get, such as Xenoblade X or Yoshi's Woolly World), because, well, it's E3.

Wasn't Capcom supposed to give some sort of announcement for Monster Hunter on the 31st of May? I wonder if that'll be involved. Regardless, I'm interested.
So is this Sunday morning or Monday morning? May 31 is Sunday, but if that 7pm for Japan, wouldn't it be June 1 for us? Wait, forgot about the international date line. Ok nevermind, so it is Sunday morning...
Hopefully this opens up the way for a awesome E3 (read cool new games we haven't heard or seen anything about so far).
