The faceplates are a big draw...as well as the built in CPP, but I wouldn't shell out the money for one unless there were a ton of games I'd be missing out on. There were a few DSi exclusive titles (and games with DSi exclusive features) that I was able to experience once the 3DS came around. If the New 3DS is the DSi situation all over again, I can wait for the 4DS (har har) and get the N3DS exclusives later...unless Nintendo cuts backwards compatibility from the 4DS...
@McoobabWATP Let's be honest here. Anyone that won't buy a Wii Ubecause of this announcement was likely never going to buy one anyway. They probably won't even get the NX and use the Wii U as their reason for avoiding it.
@Kalmaro No, but you don't make a console in a year... They haven't announced the yet, but the PS5 and next Xbox are underway.
@McoobabWATP Nintendo's still supporting the Wii U. Don't be silly.
You are aware that Microsoft and Sony are working on their next consoles, too, right? Announcing a new console doesn't mean your current console is going to die immediately. Hell, I think the PS3 and 360 are still getting the big AAA games, aren't they?
Personally, I would avoid this if it came to the Wii U. I've already got Wind Waker, and while it doesn't look terrible, it just doesn't look different ENOUGH from Wind Waker to warrant me purchasing it...
If it came to the 3DS, however, I might consider a purchase. I do have Ocarina of Time 3D and A Link Between Worlds, but this looks like it would provide a different experience from those. I would definitely consider buying it (especially as an eShop title).
@ZeroZX-Dev The way I see it is if it does come to the Wii U, it will have disappointing sales because a lot of us already have Wind Waker HD... and if it goes to the PS4 or One, they'll either avoid it because they'll have superior games or have that as a reason to avoid getting a Wii U. "I've already got a Zelda-like game. Why should I get a Wii U to play it again??"
@IceClimbers You see, it's things like this that make me not care about sales and whatnot.
If Nintendo DID do everything right, there'd still be entirely too many people that wouldn't buy the Nintendo console simply because it WASN'T a PlayStation or an Xbox.
At the end of the day, Nintendo's console is still considered "too kiddy" for the "hardcore" gamers. They'll also argue Nintendo's a rehash company because they constantly recycle Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and their other IPs even though they're likely to go out and buy GTAV, God of War III, The Last of Us, Tomb Raider, and DmC AGAIN (the remasters from 7th gen).
I'll enjoy what I get. I'll enjoy my Nintendo games. If the NX seems worth it to me, I'll buy it. If not, I'll either wait until it is or get another console.
Can't wait to hear more information about the NX and the DeNA deal.
I don't know what's so great about a game being "open world."
I've played a lot of RPGs that aren't open world and I still think they're pretty massive and open...
And I've played games typically classified as open world and it's a pain trying to play them. Unless you know who's giving you story missions, it's a trek toward death. You go left, you die. Right, you die. Unless you get levels/items from the story, you can't even really play the game.
I don't have a problem with Zelda's world and I don't know why anyone does.
I haven't played Bayonetta 2, yet (I have it, but I'm trying to clear my backlog, too...), but from what Bayonetta had to offer, I'd support Bayonetta 3...
...if it came to the Wii U. I don't doubt that Bayonetta 3 could make it's way to the PS4, XB1, and PC. I'm not saying Platinum wouldn't make a Wii U version...but it's possible, I suppose.
With the disappointment surrounding the New 3DS, I'm actually a little excited about the release (FINALLY) of Flipnote Studio 3D.
I don't get what the deal is with sharing online, though. For a dollar a month...to share online...? They stopped it because of offensive material? Guess it's a good thing they're not in charge of the Colors!3D Gallery, huh?
I dunno. I'd think that for people paying for an online fee, that'd be enough to save the kids from blood, gore, and porn.
All in all, I thought it was pretty good. Glad to see more Splatoon info. A bit upset about no standard size New 3DS confirmation and no chargers included, but I'll live. I'll probably skip the N3DS and wait for the next one.
What did surprise me was how amazing Xenoblade Chronicles X was and Wii games for download on Wii U. I missed out on Mario Galaxy, so I'll be scooping that up right away! Wish I'd waited for Prime Trilogy, but I have the first two on GCN and recently got Corruption.
I've decided that the best way to enjoy Nintendo Directs and E3 is to go into it without any expectations. Whatever disappoints me would likely have disappointed me regardless and I don't shrug off massive or impressive reveals because it's not Metroid U or Star Fox (which we are finally getting).
While you all argue about total sales and semantics and other stuff, I'll just casually sit back this year and play the games that come to me as well as clear my backlog.
I tried to keep up with all of this nonsense through 2014 and in the end... It didn't matter. As long as the Wii U continues to get new and exciting games, I'll be happy whether the Wii U has 8 million units sold or 18 million units.
@kidwalrus Probably just T. If they simply added Bayonetta as a racer, it wouldn't be that different from Cia in Hyrule Warriors. And besides that, Snake from Metal Gear (an M rated series) was in Brawl and THAT wasn't rated M. It was only even rated T because of the Wario Waft.
I was watching The Judge and remembered this came out on the eShop.
I'm so glad it's all three of the originals for $30. On Amazon, they're charging just about that much for ONE. I certainly feel like I've saved a few bucks...
Anyway, I love it and recommend it to anyone who hasn't played the originals. After seeing a few comparisons online, if you have the originals at your disposal or can find them cheaper than I have, pass on this title.
@Dipper723 Didn't a Dreamcast game come out earlier this year?
On topic, though, I didn't think Frozen was as great as everyone was making it out to be. Yeah, the songs were alright and I'll admit I sing along if I hear "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman" or "Let It Go", but aside from those music numbers, there wasn't much to the rest of the film.
I know I like to rant, but I'll keep my reasons for not absolutely loving this movie brief. The twist ending was silly and didn't really make sense. Without the music, the movie's just kind of boring. The trailers didn't advertise the good parts of the movie, just Olaf. Elsa is literally there for 15 minutes of the movie and the rest of the screen time is split among other characters and Olaf. And lastly, that's not how loving parents act (in reference to the beginning of the movie).
I voted Smash, Shovel Knight, Smash, Shovel Knight, Smash.
I don't personally own Shovel Knight, but I hear so many good things about it everywhere that I feel it deserves to win. As for Smash, it was certainly a toss-up, but with all of the big-name, heavy-hitters that came out across all platforms this year, I think Smash Bros. is the only one that didn't disappoint the majority of those that bought it.
Alright. I'll be fine for now with the basic color themes, but maybe if I have extra cash lying around in the future, I'll buy some holiday specific ones.
When I get an Amiibo figure, it's coming out of the box. I can respect collectors and those who like the packaging, but for me, I want the figure(s) to have a nice spot on my desk.
I just don't like buying things to keep them in their original packaging. I still have my Wii, 3DS, and Wii U boxes, but that's not for resale or collecting...it's just easier to store it when I have to move or if I'm going on a long trip. I'll probably toss the Amiibo box(es) because I've never kept a toy's packaging.
I'm not saying I WOULDN'T, but at the moment, I don't see a reason for a Nintendo Phone.
Personally, I haven't heard of a gaming phone that's done well and using smartphones for gaming isn't as great as a dedicated console. Scrunched controls aren't my thing.
I put Maybe. Whatever happens happens. If it happens and it proves to be a viable phone that (following Nintendo's history) gives you a good experience at a low cost, I'll be on-board. I won't buy a phone just because it's got Nintendo printed on the back.
As for Nintendo games on existing phones, I'm not rich and I'd buy a PS4 or One before dropping the same $450 on a phone. I have a smartphone that can do a few apps and 3G. I'm fine with it. It can't run games, but that's what my 3DS is for.
@platoonleaderg I don't think Amiibo will ever be mandatory.
Personally, I think the Amiibo figures are awesome and I can't wait to get one. (I want that Shulk one). I certainly hope all of the consoles succeed and I hope the Amiibo figures stick around for a while.
Many people here and in other forums have pointed out that the Wii U, although doing better than it had been, is not selling phenomenally well. The GameCube Adapter and Amiibos weren't made in an insanely high volume because of this. Now that Nintendo sees the demand, they're more than likely going to produce a ton more.
I certainly hope I can get my hands on that Adapter and a Shulk Amiibo.
I want the adapter because I highly doubt Nintendo is only going to use it for Smash. From the developer that looks at gameplay before anything and has ALL control options for Super Mario 3D World, Smash Bros., and Mario Kart, I don't think this peripheral will go by the wayside.
@NbaJunkie You're right. I'm completely disappointed with the GamePad implementation in Wind Waker HD... And Super Mario 3D World... And Lego City... And...
Wait a second... Nintendo didn't delay the game for six months for these games' GamePad features.
Still a game I'll get used if I'm still interested in the future.
@Quorthon I'd be right there with you...if it wasn't for the ocean of garbage third party multiplats on the Wii U.
It's not that Wii U owners don't want anything that doesn't have Mario, Link, or any of Nintendo's other main figures; it's that we've come to know that if we want a high-quality, non-gimped game, it makes more sense to get a Nintendo game than anyone else's or a game built from the ground up on the system.
As for Ubisoft specifically, I wouldn't be upset with them over it...except that was a game that could have gotten Wii Us moving early in the system's life. Ubisoft making the game a multiplat hurt starting Wii U sales by a fair amount. On top of that, the game was already done for the Wii U and there was no reason to delay it so it could release on time with the other versions. Wii U owners don't get that luxury. In fact, just look at Watch_Dogs, a game that showed up six months late on ONLY our platform.
I only agree because the Wii U has games and experiences you can only get on the Wii U.
Sure, the PS4 and One have third party support that the Wii U will likely never see, but they're no reason to drop $400. Every worthwhile game on the PS4 and One is also available on the PS3, 360, and PC. If you have one of those, there is absolutely no reason to upgrade. There really isn't. Last of Us Remastered? Great, but it's on PS3. Halo Master Chief Collection? Okay, fine, but every Halo game excluding Halo 2 is on the 360. Destiny, Watch_Dogs, Evil Within, Shadow of Mordor, Call of Duty? All available on PS3 and 360. Assassin's Creed Unity? Hardly worth the upgrade based on the press so far. Ryse, Titanfall, Knack, Forza, Dead Rising? All either ported to PC, underwhelming, or both.
At this point in time, I agree with Reggie. If Sony or Microsoft start making PS4 and One exclusives that are worth the price of admission and start leaving the PS3 and 360 behind, my thoughts might change. However, we're now a year out and there hasn't been a thing that (in my opinion) warrants the purchase of either console.
Call me a fanboy if you will, but that's my opinion. I see no reason to upgrade my 360 to a One or buy a PS4.
So far... I've decided on getting a Link and Shulk Amiibo.
I still consider myself quite lucky with Xenoblade Chronicles, though. I went to my GameStop just as the praise for the game was building online and saw it on the Pre-Owned shelf for $45. I bought it, despite that being the last of my pocket money, and I'm enjoying it thoroughly. Imagine my surprise when I hop online again a week later to see GameStop is selling the game for almost $90!
I don't really know how to feel about this news. As of now, there aren't any games besides Smash Bros. that will also write to the Amiibo, right? And the other games will simply see if the Amiibo figure is Mario, Link, Samus, or whoever else for different in game bonuses?
At the moment, I don't see a big issue with it. I'll likely only have my data saved on the Link figure I plan to get so I have the data when I go and play with my friends. As for Mario Kart 8 and other games, they'll give me whatever bonuses come with them, so that'll be cool.
Also, I don't think buying multiple figures will be an issue either. Collectors already buy everything. That's why they're collectors. And if there are game specific Amiibos, if people want the Amiibo features used in their games, they'll get the figures they need. If they don't, they don't have to get the figures.
As for the storage space each Amiibo has, I don't know if that'll be a big issue for me because if it reads and writes quickly and works like it's supposed to, I'll be satisfied. I don't need the price of the Amiibo figures any higher just to give it more storage space when every game in my Wii U library won't use it anyway. If only a bit more than half of the Wii U's library uses Amiibo and only a portion of that writes to the Amiibo, small storage space shouldn't be an issue. And besides, having a bunch of little figures on my desk won't upset me.
I never played Super Mario Bros. on the NES, but I did play the Virtual Console version. I can't say that I felt the controls were bad. They were actually really responsive to me. Mario gained momentum and I could run. Okay. Got it. Bring on the game. Unless you never get used to his momentum and slowing him down, I guess you could say you feel the game controlled poorly. For me, it didn't take me long to grow accustomed to slowing down or even jumping backwards to control Mario how I wanted to.
Extremely responsive game. Played it through to the end (thanks to restore points. maybe I'll try without them someday). Still working on Super Mario Bros. 2: Lost Levels.
@jbunker7 I didn't read, but know that between Ocarina of Time 3D's release and now, we DID get Skyward Sword, Wind Waker HD, and A Link Between Worlds. Also, they've been working on The Legend of Zelda for Wii U. I imagine they didn't release it sooner (or give us a ton of information) so we didn't have a Zelda overload.
If that wasn't the case, I would imagine that releasing Majora's Mask 3D sooner would make it seem as though Nintendo wasn't focusing on future Zelda experiences, but remakes of the old adventures. We already have Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker as remakes on their respective systems and A Link Between Worlds does use the Link to the Past map despite the new story and gameplay elements.
Personally, I don't mind it coming out 4 years later. It allowed me to really sink my teeth into Ocarina of Time 3D, Wind Waker HD, Skyward Sword, and A Link Between Worlds without feeling overwhelmed. I still have a backlog of games, but my Zelda itch has definitely been scratched between then and now.
I beat it last year around this time and I absolutely loved the game. It's atmosphere was amazing, the characters were all interesting, and the stories in the game all hit me emotionally.
I WILL get the 3DS remake because I loved this game so much.
I got the 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time not long after I played the original N64 version at a friend's house.
I would love to play Bayonetta 1&2 this Halloween. It would seem, though, that I'll be playing some ZombiU or watching horror movies...if I'm not out getting free candy, that is.
I really want this game, but don't have the money to get it just yet. I'll either ask for it for Christmas or use some extra cash from all the extra hours I'll work during Winter Break.
I want a physical copy because, even though I won't have to worry about space with my 320GB hard drive, I like having the physical copy. I think this was a debate a couple years back when the 3DS started retail digital downloads. The convenience of a digital copy is great, but having the physical box (in my opinion) is even better. Sure, there's not a ton of stuff in there anymore thanks to digital manuals and "going green", but it's still far more satisfying to open up my cabinet and see the shelves lined with games than to open up my Steam account and see lines of text showing how many games I have. Then, of course, there's the obvious reason of technology failure. If my laptop ever dies, there goes pretty much everything. Sure, the games will already be bought and I can redownload them on a new device, but it's so much more hassle than simply putting the disc in a new system.
Uh... Yeah, a bit of a tangent there... I'm getting it physically whenever I do get it.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly States That No First Wave amiibo Are Discontinued, More Stock is Coming
I kinda figured this was going to happen.
Re: Nintendo Reveals New Wii U Footage and Details for The Legend of Zelda, Still Set for 2015
This game looks incredible.
I absolutely cannot wait until 2015. For now, though, I'll finish Skyward Sword and Wind Waker HD.
Dear gravy, this game looks like it'll be OUTSTANDING.
Re: Review: Darksiders II (Wii U)
On sale for $10? I'll get it once I get home from my Thanksgiving trip.
Re: Video: How Does Watch Dogs Use The Wii U GamePad?
@NbaJunkie You're right. I'm completely disappointed with the GamePad implementation in Wind Waker HD... And Super Mario 3D World... And Lego City... And...
Wait a second... Nintendo didn't delay the game for six months for these games' GamePad features.
Still a game I'll get used if I'm still interested in the future.
Re: Nexis Games Defends UCraft's Multiplatform Move and PC Beta Release
Re: Eiji Aonuma Discusses Changes On the Way to Majora's Mask 3D
I hope there's a Master Quest in Majora's Mask 3D. I really liked this in Ocarina of Time 3D because it was like getting two games in one.
Majora's Mask is such a great game already, I'd like to see a Master Quest version with the world flipped and the dungeons changed.
Re: Eiji Aonuma Discusses Changes On the Way to Majora's Mask 3D
Gyorg WAS hard. He was an actual challenge unless you know the trick to beating him in, like, ten seconds. Don't act like he's the easiest boss...
By the way the easy way to beat Gyorg is by spamming Zora Link's Electric Shield
Re: The Nintendo Wii U Is Better Value For Money Than Xbox One Or PS4, Says Reggie
Re: Shulk amiibo Listed as GameStop Exclusive in the US
Re: Nintendo Outlines Confusing amiibo Save Data Limitations
Re: The Man Behind Sega's Wonder Boy Series Hates The Controls In Super Mario Bros.
Re: Eiji Aonuma Confirms Majora's Mask 3D Has Been In Development Since 2011
@jbunker7 I didn't read, but know that between Ocarina of Time 3D's release and now, we DID get Skyward Sword, Wind Waker HD, and A Link Between Worlds.
Re: Eiji Aonuma Confirms Majora's Mask 3D Has Been In Development Since 2011
I got it from Club Nintendo a couple years back.
Re: Video: Son Of A Glitch Takes Apart The Wind Waker HD
As neat as glitches like this are, I wouldn't want to skip any part of this game or any game for that matter. The journey is the fun.
Great resource for speed runners, but for me, I've watched the video and enjoyed it. That's where my involvement ends.
Re: Feature: Ten Games That Are Perfect For Halloween On Your Wii U and 3DS
I would love to play Bayonetta 1&2 this Halloween. It would seem, though, that I'll be playing some ZombiU or watching horror movies...if I'm not out getting free candy, that is.
Re: Poll: Buying Bayonetta 2 - eShop Convenience or Battling for Copies in Stores?
