Remember Devil's Third? At last year's E3 the game was confirmed as a Wii U exclusive, but we've seen precious little of it since then - a strange situation when you consider it that many assumed it would be launching this year.
While little has been seen of the game, creator Tomonobu Itagaki has still been talking about it - in a roundabout way, at least. He spoke recently to People's Daily about smartphone games, and ended up chatting about this forthcoming Wii U release as well.
Interestingly, Itagaki - who is most famous for his work on Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive franchises - revealed that the game is much more than just a shooter, and will incorporate elements of diplomacy:
We always seek to innovate in games, and so it means they will not be the same. We're currently working on a game called "Devil's Third." It is different than previous games up until now, as it is not just about fighting, but about diplomacy and forming treaties in the midst of a war in a realistic world setting. All of this is mashed up into one game. It is a world where peace is sought. My colleagues and I worked to put all this within a "war game." Eventually it became a household game for the Wii U, but we are currently developing games for mobile too.
It's likely that Devil's Third will form a large part of Nintendo's presentation at this year's E3 - are you keen to see more of the game, having read Itagaki's fresh comments? Let us know by posting something below.

Really looking forward to this. I hope it delivers.
I'm looking forwards to Devil's Third. The reveal trailer looked OTT in a great way, the multiplayer stuff looks nuts, and it's Itagaki!
I'm excited with mild expectations, but I hope we don't have to wait much longer for it.
I still would really like to play this. It looks bananas. I'm also always up for anything different in the action genre. Chopping up dudes and then forming treaties. Sounds like a load of fun.
I'm very excited about it. This e3 should show us much more, but from what we know so far I'm definitely going to love it.
Can't wait
This could be another underrated gem like TW101. I love his work so I doubt this one will suck.
Even if it will be just another shooter, it will still be one of the few for WiiU.
The trailer looked great, and I'm definitely excited about the multiplayer aspect. However the gameplay I've seen of it after the reveal was bad. But I think it was dye to being on IGN by someone who can't play shooters.
Also I think it'll launch next year and Fatal Frame will be the mature outing for this.
I will definitely be getting this game. I loved the ninja gaidens I played on PS3, ds, and a lesser extent the one on wii u.
Man, Itagaki looks like a completely different person without his rockstar shades and jacket.

PEACE!? WTF kind of fun is that!?
im 805 can`t wait play!!!!
Really hope 1: The game is awesome. 2: The game get's publicity and isn't forgotten
This is starting to look interesting. I'm not sure how well Team Ninja can pull off something ambitious, but it's on my radar for now.
I forgot this game existed again...
Maybe it'll appear at E3!
I'm very hopeful. Ninja Gaiden 3 was weakest in the story department with a grossly uneven tone, but that comment about treaties and such gives me hope.
Totally forgot about this one! Hopefully we get it this side of Christmas.
From what I have seen the game certainly looks to be interesting in comparison to the loads of other action shooter games on the other platforms but I will have to admit that if it wasn't coming to Wii U I probably wouldn't give it a second glance but seeing as that genre is pretty rare on that system I will be keeping my eye on this one.
Love the sound of this diplomacy, hope it's implemented well.
I am VERY eager to try out this game! It has been one of my most anticipated games for Wii U since its announcement at E3 last year. It just looks like my type of game. Crazy characters, mixed with swordplay and gum combat. AND with an Asian aesthetic. Really looking forward to this game
"Diplomacy and making treaties". Sounds a lot like The Phantom Menace if you ask me. Let's hope they don't introduce an idiotic character for "comic effect".
And you thought Platinum came up with some bizarre ideas. I was originally completely disinterested in this game but I'll be curious to see if it can be any more than a paint by numbers shooty game.
i keep forgetting about this game! witch is odd ad I like the look of it ¬_¬ Dame my memory.
E3 can't come soon enough with the lack of Nintendo news going on.
This and project zero are my must have games on WiiU
They have also always specialized in taking the most out of the platforms hardware, they have been working on.
Wiimote would be very powerful piece of hardware in this case, as this is a melee and shooting game. They could take that autoaim away and make players do their shooting for them selves.
I hope, that they would at least use they gyro aim option.
Nintendo should've bought them out, really.
Would've been nice to see a few more games for 3DS while we're at it.
I really hope we get a release date at E3. This, Splatoon and the FE duo are my most anticipated games this year.
I need a release date!
@Damien I really doubt that this game will be part of the Nintendo E3 demonstration! It's way too hardcore for a general audience to get into! :/
I'm not a big fan of first-person shooters, but I'm willing to at least consider this game if it gets good reviews. I would be giving the genre another try while also supporting a third-party exclusive for Wii U, which could be nice even if I end up not enjoying the game that much.
I hope along with "diplomacy and forming treaties," we can bake cookies too.
@Ryno That would be more like making treats... (depending on your baking skills, otherwise there's gonna be war and diplomacy again)
I really hope the did an overhaul on the character design.
@LUIGITORNADO Why should he? It was just beta footage, but this guy looks kinda cool to me:

And they are kind of meant to be crazy looking, since they're over the top characters. They might get a bit of a finishing touch, but don't expect any major changes.
I'm excited to hear more on the game, and eventually play it
@TheRealThanos
I think it looks grating. The tats, the shades, and I think he was a chain smoker. Then there is probably that gravely almost inaudible voice he'll have.
Took over the top for me.
I think the main character looks a little too "dude-man-bro"-ish. I would be much more willing to forge diplomatic ties (wink wink) if he looked hot.
(>_> )
But, I'm willing to give the game a chance. I think I could end up liking him. I mean, I like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Old Snake, and Old Snake is really just a pervy, grumpy, old man (with a heart of gold).
This guy is a genius and artist rolled into one. There is not nearly as much hype for this game as there should be. I have faith that he will deliver us from gaming mediocrity!
I give Itagaki way more leeway for his creativity and charisma but he still needs to deliver an awesome game. DOA Volleyball was such a let down in the gameplay department.
Definitely going to grab this game.
Right now, it seems like we'll be looking at a Bayonetta 2 scenario with this.
@Shiryu I was about to comment the EXACT same.
@Shambo You know, "brilliant minds think alike", etc...
is it E3 yet?
The crowd is growing insatiable, Ideki. We demand video footage.
I'm so eager to play this game! Making treaties and stuff sounds even more interesting. But I'm not sure there will be anything on E3...
I hope the game runs really smoothly. I wonder how close this developer has been working with Nintendo. Nintendo hardly ever has issue with their games. I know super Mario sunshine had slow down issues. and Project Cars wasn't able to get past 23fps on wii u.
Instead of teases let's get some WIP footage. It would be interested to see what it became since last year.
@gohanrage Nintendo has been shown to be able to run games at a smooth 60fps (or near) Project Cars was done with little knowledge of the system according to the company
Well, that was the first time I found this game interesting. Good.
Cool, I wasn't impressed by the E3 trailer. As such, I am glad to know the game might incorporate some novel mechanics and thus be more than it appears.
Itagaki tickles my lust for gaming masochism more than From Software. The fact that I actually beat Bloodborne makes me wonder if the Souls games are becoming too easy.
I'm hoping Devil's Third is more brutal that the first Ninja Gaiden remake. It'd make this diplomacy element of the game more instrumental in progression, I think. May give you more assets to use against enemies and such.
I'm still pretty psyched about this game. Everyone complains about the visuals, but I really don't see the problem. Plus, the online stuff looks so rad.
I can't wait to see more of Devil's Third. The multiplayer in particular looked really great when they showed it last year.
Should be interesting, let's see if it comes to E3 again and gets a release date.
I'm getting this game simply for dem thongs
Hope to see more of it from E3.
I laugh at his sentiment of it being "real world." No sir, everything that has been shown for that game is the exact opposite of anything in the "real world." Ha ha ha! Oh my... Diplomacy, huh? Actually that does exist in quite a few other games. Like Fallout.
