My black DSLite still turns on and says its battery is full. I turn it on 3 or 4 times per year to play around with some old favorites. The last time was probably some time in fall last year.
@Dman10 I kind of get the desire to own a physical copy. Whenever I feel nostalgic and get out my DS it is nice to just pick up a game from the shelf and play it. On the other hand, buying physical only in 2026 seems like a big hassle. Plus, while I have several Nintendo consoles, my main gaming platform is the PC, where Steam killed physical releases over 15 years ago.
@OctolingKing13 the NPCs didn't bother me too much. Miles is annoying when you are in the desert area, because he tells you were to go every 10 minutes, but once you enter one of the "levels" he looses radio contact and you are on your own again. One level focuses more on fighting alongside the NPCs but I would say at least 80% of the game is just Samus exploring an area alone.
@obijuankanoobie They already made the same skin for the Joy Con colors that come with the Switch 2. It shouldn't be too hard to find reviews on YoutTube or something like that.
@metaphysician I guess you could argue that people watching Netflix on a Switch would have less time playing games, but Nintendo didn't seem to be very bothered by this during the Wii and Wii U era.
@Qwiff maybe turn off your ad blocker? I was bombarded with Prime 4 ads on every tech site I visited from mid November until Christmas. They also had a lot of Metroid stuff on the Nintendo Today app and their official accounts on X/Twitter (which I don't use anymore, but someone made a bot that reposts everything to Bluesky).
It's so weird to me that Nintendo doesn't seem to care at all about streaming, especially since the Wii, WiiU and even 3DS had a lot more support. The WiiU was my only TV streaming device. Using the gamepad's touchscreen to browse YouTube and then send a video to the TV and continue to browse on the gamepad was the best streaming experience ever.
I had to buy a Fire TV stick when I replaced the WiiU with a Switch, but still preferred to use the Switch whenever possible. It was just much faster and a controller is a lot more convenient than that dinky remote. YouTube was my most-played "game" on Switch according to Nintendo's statistics
Now they even killed the existing few apps they had in Switch 2 with a generic "We are looking for a solution" and nothing has happened in 6 months.
I haven't played Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, so I don't know how much they deserve all the awards, but I find the discussion about it being Indie or not kind of weird.
For me it doesn't really matter how many people worked on something or how much it cost to make. If something was made by a studio that isn't owned by and without financial support from a big publisher, it is Indie. If I compare it to movies, every Wes Anderson movie is Indie (because he has his own production company) but they have moderately big budgets (tens of millions of $) and the cast is loaded with big Hollywood actors.
That said, I think it would be more interesting if a game that wins overall game of the year, that it would be disqualified from the other categories of best ... game. Obviously, best music, best debut and stuff like that is fine, but one game winning game of the year, best RPG and best Indie feels kind of redundant.
My biggest surprise is the relatively high score for Other M. Everybody seems to hate it. I had fun with it. The technical aspects were great and I liked a few plot points (especially the "big reveal" at the end). But overall the script was just very dumb. My biggest issue was the stupid reason why Samus can't use all her abilities from the start. "Your weapons are dangerous, you can only use them with my permission" just makes her look weak. "Oh, you just climbed through the inside of a volcano, maybe I should allow you to use the varia suit" was just silly. Just go with "Oh no! Suit malfunction" like every other Metroid game
I love Prime 4 so far, but your companions going "you have been wandering around for five minutes, why not try that door over there" is a bit annoying. I could also live without Miles briefing me on where to go at the beginning of an area. But to be fair, the ship's computer in Metroid Fusion does the same thing and that is probably my favorite game in the series
What's with all the misinformation in the comments!?
From the top:
If you buy the Switch 2 Edition (red box, red cartridge), it contains the Switch 2 Edition on the cartridge. You can also put it in a Switch 1 to play the Switch 1 version. I'm pretty sure it is a Switch 2 cartridge, as it has the additional pins on the back.
If you buy the Switch 1 version (clear box, grey cartridge) and put it in a Switch 2, the day one patch adds a menu entry telling you there is a paid update to the Switch 2 Edition.
@Giancarlothomaz The entire trilogy on Wii fits on a single DVD (so max. 8 GB, actual size is apparently 7.5 GB), why does the remaster for Prime 1 alone take almost the same amount of space? Doom 2016, which is probably comparable to Prime 4 in length and graphics quality, was 50 - 60 GB on PC and other consoles! The Switch version was smaller but also a noticeable downgrade in visual quality. Hi res textures, voice acting etc. need space.
@rallydefault I have connected my official dock to my PC monitor because it is in 4K and the TV isn't. It would still be nice to have a second one for the TV and third party docks are a lot cheaper.
I couldn't even buy an official dock if I wanted to. Amazon and Co. don't sell it and the official Nintendo Store for my country is always out of stock.
Did Meteoid Dread get a dedicated Direct? Did Nintendo hide that game out of embarrassment as well? Yes, we did have more information on Dread before launch, but the situation is different. Dread was the first 2D Metroid on a home console since Super Metroid and was made by a completely different developer.
We know what a Metroid Prime game made by Retro Studios will be like. It makes sense to tease the new stuff like the bike, the environments or the antagonist without spoiling too much, instead of giving in-depth information about the game.
@1UP-HUSKY I'm no expert, I have only played Pikmin 2 + 3 for a few hours each. As far as I know you find objects in the game that hint to a presence of humans in the world, but you never see any actual humans.
How can you watch a two minute trailer with 20 whole seconds of Samus riding a bike and come to the conclusion that "Metroid is now open world and it sucks"? Have you never played Halo? Or Half Life 2? Or ridden through Hyrule Fields on Epona in Ocarina of Time? Are those all open world games? What even is an open world game? Aren't Metroidvania games by definition kind of open as well?
The characters on the JP and US version are cute, but the backgrounds look a bit cheap.
I like the EU art, but it seems like they told the artist "it's a game about a farm and it is called Harvest Moon" and nothing else and didn't even show them screenshots of the game.
@Peteykins they haven't put in this much effort because they didn't have to. All previous instance of backwards compatibility were on the hardware level, which causes much less issues.
Wii: hardware was almost identical, I think they just reduced the clock speeds down to the Gamecube levels.
DS: contains the complete hardware of a GBA 3DS: contains the complete hardware of a DS (including the GBA parts)
WiiU: hardware is basically 3 Wiis glued together, it even boots into the Wii OS when runnig a Wii game
This meant they had almost no compatibility issues but it also meant that the games wouldn't benefit from the faster hardware.
The Switch 1 was the worst Wifi device I owned. While my phone, tablet, PC etc. have good reception in the entire house, the Switch started to struggle or completely lose connection as soon as I went to the sceond floor. I even set up another hotspot next to the TV because it was impossible to play online.
The Switch 2 is much better and pretty much in line with the other devices.
@Nintyname my guess is that we will get a Direct once the release hype around DK has died down, so end of July or early August.
@cylemmulo I think she will be a rock at the beginning of the game because the bad guys cursed her or something. And DK will find a way to break the curse fairly early in the game.
I don't know how many times I have heard "this twitter reveal/trailer/mini direct means we won't get a proper direct" and then Nintendo did one a week or two later anyway. @Uncle_Franklin Good old supply and demand. As far as I could find out, Team Sonic Racing sold around 4 million copies. Even on the WiiU, Mario Kart 8 sold twice as much! The Switch version sold 60 million copies and most people still pay full price for it. If I was Nintendo and wanted to establish higher prices, I would probably try it first with a new Mario Kart as well.
@Uncle_Franklin On Android? I couldn't find it through the search in the Play Store as well. If you choose any of the other Nintendo apps and tap on the company name, it shows up in the list.
@Princess_Lilly it has always legal to use Nazi imagery for education and art in Germany. Art was defined very broadly so stuff like the Indiana Jones movies wasn't censored. Since then games like the modern Wolfenstein series have been released uncensored.
@Yoshi3 what are Nintendo's lawyers supposed to do about it? Let's assume person A already has a Switch 2, because they are a game developer and they give it to person B. If B leaks information about the Switch 2, Nintendo can sue A because of breaking an NDA, but they can't sue B as they have no business relations and the leak doesn't break any laws. The only thing they could try is take down posted images with a copyright claim, but as I understand it, the leaker only showed them to The Verge and hasn't made them public.
Very sad news. I always preferred Bayonetta's Japanese voice, even if the English voice is technically the "original" (AFAIK, the first release of Bayonetta 1 didn't have Japanese voice acting). The first Ghost in the Shell movie is iny top 10 favorite movies.
@Radbot42 That's normal. Sometimes Mario looks to the left or right, like he does in the official character render in this article, but most of the time he looks cross-eyed. Just checked to make sure and examples are the 3D head when you start Mario 64 and the cover art for Super Mario World.
I got the PC version yesterday, because I want to play it in 4k/60fps and it has already crashed twice First when I tried to start it for the first time it just closed immediately again and second it crashed when going into a loading screen. Unlike the original version it does save automatically at least so I only lost five minutes of progress instead of having to restart the game from the beginning.
@LoroTalby to be honest, 3D games from that era didn't look good even back then. Every gamer I know made fun of Lara Croft's triangular boobs for example. But 3D graphics where new and exciting nonetheless.
The title of this article is a bit confusing, because it sounds like only the Switch version got delayed. The pointer controls worked well in the first game, both on the Wii and Switch, but I think I'll play it on PC with a mouse.
I completely missed that they announced this back in December. World of Goo is one of my favorite games, so I'm looking forward to it a lot. Not sure were I'm going to get it. The pointer controls worked pretty well on the Switch version of the first game, but I think I prefer using a mouse.
@DwaynesGames "Console exclusive" just means it won't be available on Xbox and Playstation. It will be available on PC on day one.

I completely missed that they announced this back in December. World of Goo is one of my favorite games, so I'm looking forward to it a lot. Not sure were I'm going to get it. The pointer controls worked pretty well on the Switch version of the first game, but I think I prefer using a mouse.
@DwaynesGames
"Console exclusive" just means it won't be available on Xbox and Playstation. It will be available on PC on day one.
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase?
Pretty good, several interesting games, not many must haves. The Rare games are a nice surprise, Snake Rattle n Roll is a personal favorite of mine.
But, but... World of Goo 2??!! Did we know that was coming? I'm very excited!
