Re: Metacritic Shares Updated List Of "Every Metroid Game, Ranked"

countzero

My biggest surprise is the relatively high score for Other M. Everybody seems to hate it. I had fun with it. The technical aspects were great and I liked a few plot points (especially the "big reveal" at the end). But overall the script was just very dumb. My biggest issue was the stupid reason why Samus can't use all her abilities from the start. "Your weapons are dangerous, you can only use them with my permission" just makes her look weak. "Oh, you just climbed through the inside of a volcano, maybe I should allow you to use the varia suit" was just silly. Just go with "Oh no! Suit malfunction" like every other Metroid game

I love Prime 4 so far, but your companions going "you have been wandering around for five minutes, why not try that door over there" is a bit annoying. I could also live without Miles briefing me on where to go at the beginning of an area. But to be fair, the ship's computer in Metroid Fusion does the same thing and that is probably my favorite game in the series

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Has Been Updated To Ver. 1.1.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

countzero

What's with all the misinformation in the comments!?

From the top:

If you buy the Switch 2 Edition (red box, red cartridge), it contains the Switch 2 Edition on the cartridge. You can also put it in a Switch 1 to play the Switch 1 version. I'm pretty sure it is a Switch 2 cartridge, as it has the additional pins on the back.

If you buy the Switch 1 version (clear box, grey cartridge) and put it in a Switch 2, the day one patch adds a menu entry telling you there is a paid update to the Switch 2 Edition.

Re: ICYMI: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Estimated Switch 2 And Switch File Size Revealed

countzero

@Giancarlothomaz The entire trilogy on Wii fits on a single DVD (so max. 8 GB, actual size is apparently 7.5 GB), why does the remaster for Prime 1 alone take almost the same amount of space? Doom 2016, which is probably comparable to Prime 4 in length and graphics quality, was 50 - 60 GB on PC and other consoles! The Switch version was smaller but also a noticeable downgrade in visual quality. Hi res textures, voice acting etc. need space.

Re: Metroid Prime 4's Sweet New Trailer Builds The Hype For Next Month's Launch

countzero

Did Meteoid Dread get a dedicated Direct? Did Nintendo hide that game out of embarrassment as well? Yes, we did have more information on Dread before launch, but the situation is different. Dread was the first 2D Metroid on a home console since Super Metroid and was made by a completely different developer.

We know what a Metroid Prime game made by Retro Studios will be like. It makes sense to tease the new stuff like the bike, the environments or the antagonist without spoiling too much, instead of giving in-depth information about the game.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Finally Gets A Release Date, Open World Confirmed

countzero

How can you watch a two minute trailer with 20 whole seconds of Samus riding a bike and come to the conclusion that "Metroid is now open world and it sucks"? Have you never played Halo? Or Half Life 2? Or ridden through Hyrule Fields on Epona in Ocarina of Time? Are those all open world games? What even is an open world game? Aren't Metroidvania games by definition kind of open as well?

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Harvest Moon (SNES)

countzero

The characters on the JP and US version are cute, but the backgrounds look a bit cheap.

I like the EU art, but it seems like they told the artist "it's a game about a farm and it is called Harvest Moon" and nothing else and didn't even show them screenshots of the game.

Re: More Switch Games Reportedly Receive Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes

countzero

@Peteykins they haven't put in this much effort because they didn't have to. All previous instance of backwards compatibility were on the hardware level, which causes much less issues.

Wii: hardware was almost identical, I think they just reduced the clock speeds down to the Gamecube levels.

DS: contains the complete hardware of a GBA
3DS: contains the complete hardware of a DS (including the GBA parts)

WiiU: hardware is basically 3 Wiis glued together, it even boots into the Wii OS when runnig a Wii game

This meant they had almost no compatibility issues but it also meant that the games wouldn't benefit from the faster hardware.

Re: Poll: How Are Your Download Speeds On Switch 2?

countzero

The Switch 1 was the worst Wifi device I owned. While my phone, tablet, PC etc. have good reception in the entire house, the Switch started to struggle or completely lose connection as soon as I went to the sceond floor. I even set up another hotspot next to the TV because it was impossible to play online.

The Switch 2 is much better and pretty much in line with the other devices.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Direct Revealed For Wednesday, 18th June 2025

countzero

I don't know how many times I have heard "this twitter reveal/trailer/mini direct means we won't get a proper direct" and then Nintendo did one a week or two later anyway. But if we want to speculate, my personal opinion is that they want to focus their marketing on Donkey Kong right now so the next direct will be a week or two after its release.

Re: YouTube Is Working With Nintendo To Make Its App Available On Switch 2

countzero

I used the YouTube App on the Switch a lot. It was just the best way to watch on my TV. The app on the TV has stopped working years ago.

The FireTV Stick I also have takes much longer to boot (I have the TV on a power strip with an on/off switch) and the app is a lot slower as well.

The Chromecast I use for other streaming services works better but requires my phone to use.

Re: Here's A Look At The Size And Inside Of Switch 2 Game Cases

countzero

@Duncanballs it really reminds me of the early days of Steam, except we didn't even have something like Game Key Cards, it was just code in a box or nothing. If you were lucky the DVD at least contained most of the game, but often it only contained the installer for Steam.

Everybody hated it, cries for boycotts all around and look how that turned out. Now we have Lord Gaben, Patron Saint of the Indies, Savior of the PC master race

Re: Switch 2 GameCube Controller Compatible With Other Games, But There May Be Some "Issues"

countzero

@dystome I haven't used a Gamecube controller in a while but I'm pretty sure the right stick is a normal analog stick, it just looks a little different. They also added a ZL button as well as a home, C and screenshot buttons to the top of the controller. The start button can likely be used as a + button, so the only one I haven't seen is the - (select) button. It probably also doesn't have a gyro sensor.

Re: Nintendo Direct: Mario Kart World: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate It?

countzero

@Uncle_Franklin Good old supply and demand. As far as I could find out, Team Sonic Racing sold around 4 million copies. Even on the WiiU, Mario Kart 8 sold twice as much! The Switch version sold 60 million copies and most people still pay full price for it. If I was Nintendo and wanted to establish higher prices, I would probably try it first with a new Mario Kart as well.

Re: Chances Are You've Never Heard Of Nightdive Studio's Latest Switch Rerelease

countzero

@Princess_Lilly it has always legal to use Nazi imagery for education and art in Germany. Art was defined very broadly so stuff like the Indiana Jones movies wasn't censored. The reason why videogames where handled differently was mostly because of Wolfenstein 3D. Back then videogames had a bad reputation to begin with, so a game full of Swastikas was an easy target and got banned by a court. Even back then some criticized the ruling but game publishers since then self-censored their games in fear of bad press. Only a few years ago an Indie developer making an educational game set in WW II had the balls to go to court against it and the judge agreed that it makes no sense to treat games differently than movies. Since then games like the modern Wolfenstein series have been released uncensored.

Re: Those Switch 2 Leaks "Might Be Legit" According To A New Report

countzero

@Yoshi3 what are Nintendo's lawyers supposed to do about it? Let's assume person A already has a Switch 2, because they are a game developer and they give it to person B. If B leaks information about the Switch 2, Nintendo can sue A because of breaking an NDA, but they can't sue B as they have no business relations and the leak doesn't break any laws. The only thing they could try is take down posted images with a copyright claim, but as I understand it, the leaker only showed them to The Verge and hasn't made them public.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition

countzero

I got the PC version yesterday, because I want to play it in 4k/60fps and it has already crashed twice First when I tried to start it for the first time it just closed immediately again and second it crashed when going into a loading screen. Unlike the original version it does save automatically at least so I only lost five minutes of progress instead of having to restart the game from the beginning.

Re: World Of Goo 2 Brings Gooey Mayhem To The Switch In May

countzero

I completely missed that they announced this back in December. World of Goo is one of my favorite games, so I'm looking forward to it a lot. Not sure were I'm going to get it. The pointer controls worked pretty well on the Switch version of the first game, but I think I prefer using a mouse.

@DwaynesGames
"Console exclusive" just means it won't be available on Xbox and Playstation. It will be available on PC on day one.

Re: Random: Former Nintendo Employees Kit & Krysta Share Their Initial Reaction To Palworld

countzero

I find all the complaints about too many articles about Palworld very funny. If you click on it and then complain about it in the comments, you tell Nintendolife "articles about Palworld create a lot of engagement, we should write more!". If you want them to go away, just ignore them!

I think the number of articles is justified. It doesn't happen often that an early access game by an unknown developer sells millions of copies in a week.

Re: The First Review For Another Code: Recollection Is In

countzero

I don't know the original game on DS but I have played the demo. It's definitely not a 10/10 game. The graphics are nice enough but everything feels a bit outdated. The camera controls are stiff. The dialog scenes are slow paced and why do I have to "choose" the next dialog option if there is only one available? With the handful of puzzles that are in the demo I could tell that they were originally designed for the DS, but I think they adapted them well for the Switch controls.

The characters and story however were interesting enough that I will probably pick the game up when it comes out. For anyone who thinks about trying the demo it is just the beginning of the first game and you can transfer your save to the full version.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Like To See More Streaming Media Apps On 'Switch 2'?

countzero

According to my Switch my most played "game" is YouTube, so definitely yes

I use streaming apps almost exclusively in docked mode. The Switch boots much faster and runs better than my FireTV stick. I also like using a controller better than the remote. For other streaming services not on the Switch I use a Chromecast. That works well, too, but it's the version without a remote so I need to use my phone which can be a bit annoying sometimes.

Re: Twitch "Ending Support" For Its Switch App Early Next Year

countzero

I don't use Twitch but I use YouTube and Crunchyroll a lot on the Switch in docked mode. It starts faster than a FireTV stick and using the controller as a remote is more convenient than using my phone with a Chromecast.

I find it weird that we never got apps for all the other streaming services and I hope that changes for the Switch 2.
