@Moroboshi876 The Zapper (or any old school light gun) could actually detect if you were pointing it a correct part of the screen when shooting. The Wiimote only detects the sensor bar, so it doesn't know how big your TV is. The pointer on the screen doesn't actually match with were you are pointing the controller.
The Joy Con doesn't detect anything. You point it at the center of your screen and press a button to calibrate it. Then it calculates the position of the pointer just by reading the motion sensors. You could point it away from the screen during calibration and it would still move the cursor according to your hand movements, but if you point it at the screen again afterwards it would stop working.
@NintendoFan4Lyf I always wanted to play the one were you play as Zelda. The only other game were she plays an active role in the story, instead of just waiting to be saved, is Spirit Tracks.
You could also count Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time, but Sheik and Tetra still mostly appear in cut scenes.
I have the standard neon ones and the left Joy Con died on me while I was on vacation in Tokyo. That gave me a good excuse to buy the red ones, as I am in Europe and as the article says they are not sold separately here.
After I had used the red ones for several month I tried the old ones again and the dead one actually came back to life.
If they release a Switch Lite with permanently attached Joy Con I'm 100% sure that you will be able to connect regular Joy Con to play Mario Party and it will also be able to dock.
Bluetooth chips are not expensive (in the current hardware it is integrated into the Wifi chip) and the ability to output video via USB C is likely a standard feature of the Tegra SoC.
@Lizuka @MeloMan she could technically hide her crown under the hats, but at least one of Peach's Odyssey outfits does not have the crown or a hat, her beach outfit.
I had no issue with swapping out discs on the Wii U. On the Switch the slightly more laborious process (take it out of the dock, open the little flap etc.) really annoyes me for some reason. So I mostly buy digital.
In addition I mostly play indie games nowadays and those are often digital only anyway.
The Wii U had a bit of a revival in my house recently. I use it mostly for streaming (Crunchyroll and YouTube) and I have been playing through the Metroid Prime Trilogy in the past month.
@NEStalgia I went to a Zelda concert once. I had no issues with the audience. The far bigger issue was that they chose to play in a normal venue were they usually have rock concerts and stuff, instead of a proper concert hall. Because of that the acoustics were crap. It was nice to see the musicians playing but the sound would have been better if I listened to the music on my phone
@GrailUK I haven't played 1+2 but I really loved 3+4. There are a lot of referencs to the previous games that I probably didn't get, but the story isn't that complicated and 3 puts you into a new city and introduces a lot of new characters. So prior knowledge isn't necessary.
@Euler The only way to stop a cartridge from working before release would be some kind of online activation. That's not a good idea, especially for a mobile system. Checking the date offline on the console doesn't work, because you could just change the date to some time after launch before putting in the game.
As there are several people in here that said they played Gradius a lot, can someone please tell me how to get past that stupid volcano in the first level?
@nintendobynature There is a rumour that we will get a Direct in November (more specifically this week!) so they will probably announced the January games there.
@jhewitt3476 Not really. It is more like a platformer/adventure game hybrid. And Square Enix is just the publisher. It was developped by ThroughLine Games, an independent studio from Denmark.
There is a Halloween sale on the eShop right now with a few more suggestions. I have played Detention for a bit. Haven't gotten to the scary parts, yet. But I like the atmosphere so far.
The other game I bought is Agatha Knife. It more gross and disturbing instead of scary so far. I like how weird an off beat it is.
@TuragaNuva It looks like it was designed for the GameCube but that doesn't mean they ever intended to release the controller for it. They just used it as a starting point for the Wii development.
It's cool how they mostly used parts from existing products. The article mentions that the buttons are from a Gameboy Advance and the cable for the sensor bar looks like it is from the microphone accessory.
It would be interesting to know how they made housings for the controllers.
@Regpuppy Nintendo doesn't really care about lore and background in their games. The do created lore to make the world feel more believable (Splatoon and Arms are good examples), but if they have a cool new game mechanic that breaks established lore they just don't care. Stuff like the Zelda timeline was created after the fact as lip service to fans.
The same is true for Peachette. They wanted to add new characters to help inexperienced gamers and already have an established character that can float and double jump. But Peach wasn't available because she got kidnapped again (just a guess, I haven't played New Super Mario Bros U), so they came up with Peachette as a workaround.
@Gridatttack I have been thinking about that as well but Peachowser doesn't sound as good.
@Liam_Doolan It hasn't been "weeks". The tweet from @ayyk92 you mentioned is 6 days old by now. It is amazing how fast this blew up, it certainly feels like it has been going on for weeks
It's good to know that this is finally clear. Nintendo's messaging on this is kind of a mess, if you look at the different FAQs:
Germany: FAQ hasn't been updated yet and still says "Details about Cloud Saves will be given at a later date"
UK: "Save data stored with Save Data Cloud cannot be kept outside of the duration of your Nintendo Switch Online membership." This probably caused all the confusion in the first place because you can interpret it as "cloud saves will be deleted when your membership ends". It doesn't help that it also mentions that your saves will be kept locally and can be reuploaded. It specifically talks about the NES games but if you miss that detail it reinforces the impression that saves will be deleted.
Japan: "Keeping of your cloud saves after the end of your membership can not be guaranteed" (paraphrasing from Google translate)
And finally US: "If a Nintendo Switch Online membership expires, users won’t be able to access their Save Data Cloud backups. However, Nintendo will allow users who resubscribe within 180 days to access their previous Save Data Cloud backups." I don't know if this info was always there or if they updated it after talking to IGN.
@Andrew5678 Duck Hunt is available on Wii U. Having visible cross hairs makes the game way too easy. It was fun to play for half an hour but it is almost impossible to lose.
@Ralek85 How did they get those gold coins in the first place if they don't buy anything on the eShop? I know that you can redeem physical games as well, but that gives you a lot less.
It's interesting how different the game feels if you play it alone vs. Co-op.
I watched a 4 player let's play and it was pure chaos. But if you play it alone you actually have to use some strategy or you will die quickly. Because of that it feels a bit slower and less random.
@Arpie I guess the service will go live at the same time everywhere. So it is late evening in the US, early morning on the next day in Europe and mid-day in Japan.
For the controllers I am hoping for a Bluetooth or USB adapter to connect an (S)NES classic mini controller to the Switch.
@AlexSora89 I always felt that the 2D Worms games that came out after World Party weren't as good. Something felt slightly off about them and because of that they weren't nearly as much fun.
WMD however feels like a "proper" Worms game again. You should definitely check it out!
@ShadJV The video capture impacts performance even if you don't use it, because pressing the record button saves the last 30 seconds before the button is pressed. That means the system is recording all the time and is keeping the last 30 seconds in its RAM.
@construx Judging by the screenshots in the article it doesn't look like a big difference. I played the first one on PC and even though it was ported several years after the original release they didn't improve the graphics much (if at all).
Even though you could see that it was a last gen title, the art style covered up the technical limitations pretty well.
@Heavyarms55 South Honshu specifically seems to have it pretty rough this year. I went to Tokyo at the end of June so I followed Japanese news a bit more closely.
There was a pretty big earthquake at the beginning of June, then heavy rain with lots of flooding and after that one of the biggest heat waves in recent years. And now this...
I really enjoyed this game. The gameplay is a bit on the simple side although it is not as simple as I had expected from a story heavy game like this. It has some nice puzzles and a little bit of adventure sprinkled in. The story is interesting but a little predictable.
What really made the game for me is the presentation. The excellent voice acting, great animations and music makes it feel like you are playing a Ghibli movie.
Transistor is such a great game. The gameplay is great, with kinda-but-not-really-turn-based combat and the ingenious update mechanics and I still listen to the soundtrack from time to time.
@Ooyah I think I read that somewhere, but I can't find anything right now. Maybe I am just remembering it wrong. The official website only says "more details will be released soon".

Re: Reminder: Zelda II And Blaster Master Hit Switch Today, Plus Two New Special Edition NES Games
@Moroboshi876 My point is, that it wouldn't be a lot of fun with pointer controls, because it is too easy.
Re: Reminder: Zelda II And Blaster Master Hit Switch Today, Plus Two New Special Edition NES Games
@Moroboshi876 You can play Duck Hunt on the WiiU with a Wiimote, but the fact that the cross hairs are visible on the screen makes it way too easy.

Re: Hyperkin To Reveal New NES Light Gun Which Works With HDTVs
Sounds cool. Playing Duck Hunt on the WiiU with a Wiimote was super lame because it was way too easy.

Re: The Wireless NES Controller For Switch Has A Few Surprises But Still Lacks Compatibility
@GrailUK Quote from Andrew Webster (The Verge) from this article:
"And while I could technically play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I wasn’t able to jump, which is a pretty big handicap."
Maybe he doesn't know that you can jump with Up ?
Re: The Wireless NES Controller For Switch Has A Few Surprises But Still Lacks Compatibility
@GrailUK No, but I was surprised that you apparently cannot jump in Smash Bros, even though there is no logical reason for it.
Re: The Wireless NES Controller For Switch Has A Few Surprises But Still Lacks Compatibility
@GrailUK Like others in this comment section I am surprised to hear that they work with other games at all.
I was sure that Nintendo said the controllers would only work with the NES app.

I can find "The Missing" on the US eshop and it says October 11th:

The European eShop on the other hand doesn't seem to have it.

Kirby
All the Koopalings
