Re: Reminder: Zelda II And Blaster Master Hit Switch Today, Plus Two New Special Edition NES Games

@Moroboshi876 The Zapper (or any old school light gun) could actually detect if you were pointing it a correct part of the screen when shooting. The Wiimote only detects the sensor bar, so it doesn't know how big your TV is. The pointer on the screen doesn't actually match with were you are pointing the controller.

The Joy Con doesn't detect anything. You point it at the center of your screen and press a button to calibrate it. Then it calculates the position of the pointer just by reading the motion sensors. You could point it away from the screen during calibration and it would still move the cursor according to your hand movements, but if you point it at the screen again afterwards it would stop working.

Re: Guide: Every Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controller Available Right Now

I have the standard neon ones and the left Joy Con died on me while I was on vacation in Tokyo. That gave me a good excuse to buy the red ones, as I am in Europe and as the article says they are not sold separately here.

After I had used the red ones for several month I tried the old ones again and the dead one actually came back to life.

Re: Gaming Analysts Predict 'Switch Pro' And 'Switch Lite' Revisions For 2019

If they release a Switch Lite with permanently attached Joy Con I'm 100% sure that you will be able to connect regular Joy Con to play Mario Party and it will also be able to dock.

Bluetooth chips are not expensive (in the current hardware it is integrated into the Wifi chip) and the ability to output video via USB C is likely a standard feature of the Tegra SoC.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda Concert 2018 Is Being Released On CD And Blu-ray Next Year

@NEStalgia I went to a Zelda concert once. I had no issues with the audience. The far bigger issue was that they chose to play in a normal venue were they usually have rock concerts and stuff, instead of a proper concert hall. Because of that the acoustics were crap. It was nice to see the musicians playing but the sound would have been better if I listened to the music on my phone

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Faces Massive Online Data Dump

@Euler The only way to stop a cartridge from working before release would be some kind of online activation. That's not a good idea, especially for a mobile system. Checking the date offline on the console doesn't work, because you could just change the date to some time after launch before putting in the game.

Re: Guide: 15 Spooky Nintendo Switch Games To Fear This Halloween

There is a Halloween sale on the eShop right now with a few more suggestions. I have played Detention for a bit. Haven't gotten to the scary parts, yet. But I like the atmosphere so far.

The other game I bought is Agatha Knife. It more gross and disturbing instead of scary so far. I like how weird an off beat it is.

@Regpuppy Nintendo doesn't really care about lore and background in their games. The do created lore to make the world feel more believable (Splatoon and Arms are good examples), but if they have a cool new game mechanic that breaks established lore they just don't care. Stuff like the Zelda timeline was created after the fact as lip service to fans.

The same is true for Peachette. They wanted to add new characters to help inexperienced gamers and already have an established character that can float and double jump. But Peach wasn't available because she got kidnapped again (just a guess, I haven't played New Super Mario Bros U), so they came up with Peachette as a workaround.

Re: Nintendo Keeps Switch Online Cloud Saves For 180 Days After Membership Expiry

countzero

It's good to know that this is finally clear. Nintendo's messaging on this is kind of a mess, if you look at the different FAQs:

Germany: FAQ hasn't been updated yet and still says "Details about Cloud Saves will be given at a later date"

UK: "Save data stored with Save Data Cloud cannot be kept outside of the duration of your Nintendo Switch Online membership."
This probably caused all the confusion in the first place because you can interpret it as "cloud saves will be deleted when your membership ends". It doesn't help that it also mentions that your saves will be kept locally and can be reuploaded. It specifically talks about the NES games but if you miss that detail it reinforces the impression that saves will be deleted.

Japan: "Keeping of your cloud saves after the end of your membership can not be guaranteed" (paraphrasing from Google translate)

And finally US:
"If a Nintendo Switch Online membership expires, users won’t be able to access their Save Data Cloud backups. However, Nintendo will allow users who resubscribe within 180 days to access their previous Save Data Cloud backups."
I don't know if this info was always there or if they updated it after talking to IGN.

Re: Valkyria Chronicles 4 - A Sublime Strategy Experience On Switch

@construx Judging by the screenshots in the article it doesn't look like a big difference. I played the first one on PC and even though it was ported several years after the original release they didn't improve the graphics much (if at all).

Even though you could see that it was a last gen title, the art style covered up the technical limitations pretty well.

@Heavyarms55 South Honshu specifically seems to have it pretty rough this year. I went to Tokyo at the end of June so I followed Japanese news a bit more closely.

There was a pretty big earthquake at the beginning of June, then heavy rain with lots of flooding and after that one of the biggest heat waves in recent years. And now this...

Re: Square Enix Collective's Cinematic Adventure Forgotton Anne Is Headed To Switch

I really enjoyed this game. The gameplay is a bit on the simple side although it is not as simple as I had expected from a story heavy game like this. It has some nice puzzles and a little bit of adventure sprinkled in. The story is interesting but a little predictable.

What really made the game for me is the presentation. The excellent voice acting, great animations and music makes it feel like you are playing a Ghibli movie.
