@JasmineDragon In Splatoon 1 Marie won the final Splatfest and as a result Callie went missing leading to the plot of the Splatoon 2 single player mode. If the outcome of the Splatfest was different, it would probably have been the other way around.
@peanutbuttercup Not too odd. Digital only games from Nintendo always release on Thursday. Physical games usually release on Friday, so it is only a day off.
Additionally November 1st is a holiday in a lot of countries so the regular Friday release would not be optimal.
I think my first picross game was the Zelda one you could get as a My Nintendo reward. Played it with touch controls for a bit, but quickly switched to d-pad and buttons.
It's a matter of taste of course but I think button controls are better by a long shot. With capacitive touch I find it almost unplayable after trying a picross game on my phone.
@Kyranosaurus Ah, now I see it. I was watching the trailer on my phone and the collar of her jacket looked like it was part of her head. That made it look like she had very short hair.
@sanderev That's not exactly true. You could always use Nazi symbols in art. The Indiana Jones movies have always been uncensored for example.
But in 1998 a court decided that this didn't apply to Wolfenstein 3D and it was banned (I don't know why it took them 6 years to decide that). Based on this decision the German rating board (USK) refused to rate games with Nazi symbols going forward.
However in the last 20 year the view on games as art has changed and they gave a rating to an educational game about resistance fighters in Berlin last year.
@Heavyarms55 @patbacknitro18 The DS can play GBA games and the 3DS is backwards compatible so I'm pretty sure the GBA games we got aren't emulated but run natively.
That's why they don't have any of the features of the virtual console games (like save states).
I want to mention Ghost 1.0. It might look like a bland Flash game, but it is a very solid Metroidvania! There are a lot of different weapons and power ups and the story is also pretty interesting. The best thing for me however was the awesome main character and her companions.
@Ayye-ant It has online and local multiplayer, but as far as I know, the only option is to play the normal game in co-op. Of course that means that you can play all the crazy side activities as well.
@Rhaoulos Parallax and 3D is not the same. While I would guess that most modern 2D games create there parallax effect the same way as Shovel Knight, it's not always this way.
A lot of 16 bit games and even some 8 bit ones had parallax effects, but those definitely weren't 3D.
@Itzdmo Cadence of Hyrule (the Crypt of the Necrodancer/Zelda crossover), Mario and Rabbids, and even Shantae and Shovel Knight stuff in Smash to a degree, show that Nintendo is getting more open to license their IP to other developers.
Also I am pretty sure Nintendo's lawyers wouldn't be a big help in their game development.
@Hughesy I also own an Oculus Rift and I am surprised how good Labo VR looks. I haven't tried both side by side, yet, but I would compare the difference in image quality to VHS vs Betamax.
The tracking and performance on the Rift however is much better. I can play Beat Saber for hours, but with Labo VR I get a mild headache after 20 min.
@BoilerBroJoe We will have to wait and see but Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice has a VR version that works similar to what they showed for BotW and that is actually pretty good.
@Spoony_Tech I am still not 100% sure about this, but I think the Switch has its own motion sensors for the head tracking. The photos on Labo VR show instances were the VR goggles are used without any Joycon attached to the Switch.
@Pod Aren't all the modders using the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild? I just googled a bit and the only Switch emulators that I found are Yuzu (according to their game compatibility list, only a handful of games run in a playable way. BotW is rated as running "bad") and RyujiNX (their compatibility list says "unimplemented service", whatever that means).
Also, the Switch distorts the two images on the screen and the lenses inside Labo VR reverse that distortion. Every VR headset has different lenses so the distortion has to change according to the headset you use.
@Savino The part of the goggles that touches your face is made from plastic and there is almost no pressure on your face because there is no head strap. That probably makes it a lot more comfortable than Google cardboard.
@mist I am shortsighted and VR does look very blurry without glasses. You can wear your glasses under most VR headsets and I think I have heard that this works for Labo VR as well.
For my Oculus Rift I have bought some special prescription lenses that clip onto the existing lenses inside the headset, because I find it a lot more comfortable.
@Heavyarms55 Well, they are bringing the Masterchief Collection to PC and are releasing it on Steam instead of making it a Windows Store Exclusive. That looks to me like Halo on Switch isn't completely impossible.
Phew, that trailer should have a seizure warning at the beginning. It didn't show a lot of gameplay and the monster aspect of the girls seems to be mostly different hair colors.
That reminds me of a crossword puzzle in an English book at school where the solutions for "character from a famous SciFi series" (or something like that) were "Hans Solo" and "The Imperator".
Come on people, it's not that hard! If you don't like an article, don't read it!
Moaning about it in the comment leads to more comments which in turn leads to more clicks, because an article with many comments is more likely to be clicked.
@Bondi_Surfer True, but 720p and 1080p have become a short hand for 1280x720 and 1920x1080, instead of just referring to the number of lines in the picture.
@astrofan1993 "Almost 800 people laid off, and the CFO still got a $15 million bonus (about £11,386,650 for this American's fellow Nintendo fans across the pond)."
Of course he did, because that was for last year. If they shot themselves in the foot, because the lay offs will actually have a negative business impact, he won't be getting a bonus next year.
Also as you can read in the article they put aside 150 million $ for severance pay for those 800 people. Of course it is bad to lose your job, but they didn't actually just kick them out on the street.
Ghost 1.0 is also great. It looks a bit bland graphically, but at least they didn't go for generic 16 bit graphics.
It has some interesting mechanics, lots of powerups and upgradable weapons. I also like how consistent the game world is. There is even an in-universe explanation for the saverooms. I like attention to detail like that.
And last but not least I loved the story and characters, especially Ghost herself.
Well someone hasn't seen the censorship in the 80s & 90s and/or has a very US/UK centric point of view.
Here in Germany there is less censorship in games (and movies) then ever. We might even get the next Wolfenstein with swastikas included for the first time.
I get what you are saying. Censorship, especially if it concerns sexual themes, seems to be more of a thing lately, but
Regarding price vs. length, I much prefer short but interesting experiences. A 60€ game that took me 100 hours to beat like Breath of the Wild I will probably only play once.
Something like Inside, which only takes 5 hours to beat, I have finished several times now.
@Wavey84 I love both Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks! In fact I started a new Spirit Tracks playthrough today.
Phantom Hourglass is the better game overall, but I love that Zelda tags along and has an active part in the story. They even make fun of her inactivity in other games. When Link gets told to go inside the Tower she tells him that she will wait for him and that this is a family tradition 😁
I played it on PC when it came out. Never finished it, but the atmosphere was great. I'm a sucker for Blade Runner/Neuromancer inspired scenarios. How many games do you know that take place in an 80s style retro-futuristic Poland?
@Anti-Matter I love the Sims (according to Origin I put nearly 400 hours into Sims 4), but I could never play it on a console. Downloading custom content (and making your own!) is at least half the fun.
I really liked the Octo Expansion. They got really creative with the level design in some cases. I have to go back to it to finally beat the true last boss.
Haven't they already released a hardware revision last summer? How are the news on that? I'm guessing that these hackers still work on their release day hardware?
I have installed Windows 3.11 inside DosBox a few months ago so I tried this out.
Everything actually works with an English version of Windows, it just displays random characters instead of Japanese text.
D:\install.exe seems to install the screensavers but I couldn't figure out the install program.
D:\OMAKE\install.exe installs the calculator, clock and a program that changes the desktop background. Those work well and contain barely any Japanese text. Now my Windows 3.11 has a Princess Peach background
Or was she still called Toadstool at that point?
The reason why they don't have any merch of their games is probably that they don't own the rights to any of them.
Bayonetta and Vanquish are owned by Sega Nier is Square Enix Okami is Capcom
Maybe they own the rights to Wonderful 101, but it looks like Nintendo was involved from the beginning of development, so it is probably their property.
I really love this game! The gameplay is fun, the puzzles are complex and require a combination of quick reflexes and thinking and the story is interesting and can get quite emotional.
@Agramonte That's because the game is built entirely with HTML5.

@Kyranosaurus Ah, now I see it. I was watching the trailer on my phone and the collar of her jacket looked like it was part of her head. That made it look like she had very short hair.
Now on a bigger screen I can see what's going on.
Re: Paradox Soul Is A Retro-Inspired Metroidvania Heading To Switch This Week
@Kyranosaurus Same. Also, that is supposed to be the main character, right? Then why does the sprite in the game look like a middle-aged man?
