Re: Soapbox: 25 Years On, I Still Can't Get Into Yoshi's Island

countzero

It is probably my favorite SNES game but it was also my first, so that's likely a big part of it.

I think it is the first modern Nintendo game. It has a proper intro and tutorial at the beginning (Super Mario World had some Text explanations, but they were pretty shallow and also only available in English while Yoshi's Island was localised in several languages). It is relatively easy to beat but hard to 100%.

I beat it countless times but I think I never 100%ed anything besides the first world and haven't even beaten the bonus level.

Re: Reminder: Use Your Switch Game Vouchers While You Still Can (North America)

countzero

@Moistnado I know what you mean. So far I have bought them once. Used one for Astral Chain and later that year they released Link's Awakening, Luigis Mansion and Pokémon so I was sure that I would buy at least one of them.

When I decided to buy Paper Mario I briefly considered buying it with a coupon but there is no game on the horizon that interests me that is confirmed for release in the next 12 month.

Worst case would be that Metroid, BotW 2 and Bayonetta 3 a get released on holidays 2021 and the coupon expires in summer.

Re: CrossCode Patch For Switch Fixes Crashes, Performance Issues And Multiple Bugs

countzero

@OorWullie considering that the developer said it would probably never run on the Switch when the PC version was released it seems to run quite well.

It has higher system requirements than you would assume when looking at it because it was built entirely with HTML5 and other web technologies which isn't the most efficient for a game in terms of performance.

Re: Soapbox: Forget Terraforming And Crafting, 'Island Hopping' Is The Best Thing About Animal Crossing: New Horizons

countzero

My biggest problem is that random villagers just move into empty houses so fast. Last time a villager moved out they left on day 1, on day 2 the house was empty, on day 3 I didn't have time to play and on day 4 a new one had already moved in.

Without new villagers to meet the mistery island tours are pretty bland because most islands have nothing special on them.

The puzzle island event some time ago was pretty fun. I wish we would get more of those.

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

countzero

I don't remember what I played on the 3DS on 2013 but for the WiiU it was horrible. Not the entire year but the period from holidays 2012 to holidays 2013. We got a pretty good launch lineup, then nothing for months, than Lego City Undercover in spring than nothing again until Pikmin 3 in summer and than another period of nothing until the Holidays were we finally got some good games like Rayman Legends and 3D World.

Re: Guide: How To Fix A Drifting Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

countzero

I just wanted to stress that Joy Con drift and Pro Controller drift are not the same! On the Joy Con Nintendo uses cheaper sticks that as far as we know will eventually wear out a lot faster than they should. They probably chose them because of the smaller size and not to save money, but still the way they handle this is unacceptable.

On the Pro Controller however they use the same analog sticks as everyone else. That's the reason why the person who wrote the repair guide posted by @wert303b was able to use PS4 replacement sticks to repair his controller. So drift issues should be a lot less common and the same as on other consoles.

@Grot Not giving money to Tencent will get pretty hard. It is funny that they always get mentioned in association with Epic (or to hate on Platinum Games for their, admittedly badly handled, Kickstarter) but nobody seems to care that they also own shares from ActivisionBlizzard, Ubisoft, Paradox or Frontier among others.

Did you know they make movies, too? I hope you didn't watch Wonder Woman, Terminator: Dark Fate or are planning to see Top Gun: Maverick.

Re: Random: Ever Wondered What Items And Furniture Animal Crossing Players Buy Online The Most?

countzero

@SyFyTy You sometimes get an island with a bunch of rocks in the middle that always give you bells, or an island that has different fruit than your home island. Also every island has coconuts which you normally also can't find on your own island.

Nook Mile Tickets are also a fast way to convert Nook miles into bells, because you can sell them at the store. You get more if you sell Bell Vouchers but it takes a long time to print several vouchers at once.

Re: Review: Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix - This Digital Diva Is Perfectly At Home On Switch

countzero

So the "Tamagotchi" aspect of Project Mirai is missing completely, right?

It was both cute and annoying (and a little creepy, considering you could dress up a Chibi Miko in sexy clothing) so I'm not sure if it's good or bad

I played the demo and totally sucked at it despite playing a ton of Project Mirai a few years ago. Played around with the latency settings but didn't get really satisfing results. Thankfully it worked perfectly without any fiddling in handheld mode.

Did those of you played it on PS4 have any issues with input latency?

Re: Platinum Studio Head Doesn't Think Next-Gen Hardware Will Be As "Ground-Breaking" As The Switch

countzero

@ShadJV I'm pretty sure the next console will be to the Switch what the 3DS was to the DS. Basically the same form factor, improved performance, very likely backwards compatible.

I'm just curious what the new gimmick will be, because every Nintendo console needs one of those. I'm not complaining BTW, it's just that sometimes it works (Wii, DS, Switch) and sometimes it doesn't (WiiU, 3DS).

Re: Nintendo President Says More Switch Games Are Scheduled For Current Period

countzero

@Moistnado Other M was such a conflicting game

Overall I probably liked it more than most people, but every great thing about it came with a catch.

I loved a more story focused Metroid game but the writing was pretty bad (I did find the main villain pretty interesting however).

It was cool to find out more about Samus` past, but her characterisation was weak.

The gameplay was very solid, but they made some weird design decisions (that boss fight were you had to constantly switch to first person to shot missiles made me pull my hair out).

It is also a technical masterpiece! I have never seen a game before or since, that transitions so seamlessly between pre-rendered cutscenes and in-engine graphics.

Re: How Well Do You Know Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

countzero

Good thing I read so many articles about the game or I would have gotten the names wrong, because I don’t play the game in English.

I think the only character I have encountered so far that does have the same name as in the English version is Tom Nook himself.

Re: Review: Picross S4 - More Of The Same, But That's Fine

countzero

Touch controls worked well enough on the 3DS with a stylus. On the Switch with its capacitive touch screen it would probably suck. I tried playing a Picross game on my phone once and it was a horrible experience.

My problems are that resistive touch screens are a lot more precise and using my finger instead of a stylus covers up too much of the screen. The kind of stylus you can use with the switch is still a lot thicker then the (3)DS ones so that doesn't help me a lot, either.

Re: PlatinumGames Admits Wonderful 101 Kickstarter Had Nothing To Do With Raising Funds

countzero

You must be new to Kickstarter if this is surprising to you in any way. Every time a bigger company is doing a Kickstarter campaign it is to "gauge interest", especially for video games . Even if the game isn't already finished when the campaign starts, it is more useful as bargaining chip with investors/publishers than for the actual money. Even if you get a million or two through Kickstarter, that isn't enough to fund a mid tier game and a huge chunk of it is eaten up by paying for fees and physical rewards.

In addition most backers treat it as a glorified pre-order anyway. I don't have a problem with developers doing the same.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Will Support Save File Transfers "Later This Year"

countzero

@Wilforce I don't think it is that complicated. They wanted to completely disable the ability to copy saves to avoid cheating and they also have to handle the saves differently because one save is shared between different accounts on the same Switch.

After the fan backlash they changed their mind but don't have enough time now to implement it at launch, because they can't use the standard implementation that is already available.

@Zyph It was a little bit different in the past. On the DS and 3DS saves were stored on the cartridge which is less likely to break than the console itself. On the WiiU you could store saves on external hard drives. But on the Switch they are locked inside the internal memory of the console.

Re: Guide: Best Cheap Nintendo Switch Games - Switch eShop Deals (Europe)

countzero

For 9.99 € I'll probably buy Rayman Legends again, just so I don't have to boot up the WiiU to play it. Together with Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze it is the best 2D Jump and Run on the WiiU IMHO.

Edit: Checked the eShop and found a few great deals:
Agent A: a puzzle in disguise looks pretty cool and has good reviews (one called it the best puzzle game on iOS) and currently costs 2,59 €

Forgotton Anne is one of the best looking games I have played in recent years (played it on Steam when it came out). It feels like a playable Ghibli movie! The game play is nothing special, but it has some neat puzzles and the story is great! Costs 8 € right now.
