@emayekayee That's another thing. Why are they called "Bells" in the first place? That's clearly a star on the bag. In German they are even called "Sternis", with Stern translating to star.
@Ralizah I have only played one game in the series, Hyperdinension Neptunia Re;Birth1,and as far as I remember it had the same issues. Poor visuals and bad performance, even though I was playing on PC.
@Mince so you didn't like them even before this article? Steamworld Quest was a Switch Exclusive (+ PC and Stadia). Or is it just when it's an exclusive on a platform you don't own?
It is probably my favorite SNES game but it was also my first, so that's likely a big part of it.
I think it is the first modern Nintendo game. It has a proper intro and tutorial at the beginning (Super Mario World had some Text explanations, but they were pretty shallow and also only available in English while Yoshi's Island was localised in several languages). It is relatively easy to beat but hard to 100%.
I beat it countless times but I think I never 100%ed anything besides the first world and haven't even beaten the bonus level.
@RidzPlays I'm not 100% sure but I think screenshots are always in 720p and all the take photo button does is remove the UI and then trigger the normal screenshit function.
@Moistnado I know what you mean. So far I have bought them once. Used one for Astral Chain and later that year they released Link's Awakening, Luigis Mansion and Pokémon so I was sure that I would buy at least one of them.
When I decided to buy Paper Mario I briefly considered buying it with a coupon but there is no game on the horizon that interests me that is confirmed for release in the next 12 month.
Worst case would be that Metroid, BotW 2 and Bayonetta 3 a get released on holidays 2021 and the coupon expires in summer.
@OorWullie considering that the developer said it would probably never run on the Switch when the PC version was released it seems to run quite well.
It has higher system requirements than you would assume when looking at it because it was built entirely with HTML5 and other web technologies which isn't the most efficient for a game in terms of performance.
My biggest problem is that random villagers just move into empty houses so fast. Last time a villager moved out they left on day 1, on day 2 the house was empty, on day 3 I didn't have time to play and on day 4 a new one had already moved in.
Without new villagers to meet the mistery island tours are pretty bland because most islands have nothing special on them.
The puzzle island event some time ago was pretty fun. I wish we would get more of those.
I don't remember what I played on the 3DS on 2013 but for the WiiU it was horrible. Not the entire year but the period from holidays 2012 to holidays 2013. We got a pretty good launch lineup, then nothing for months, than Lego City Undercover in spring than nothing again until Pikmin 3 in summer and than another period of nothing until the Holidays were we finally got some good games like Rayman Legends and 3D World.
I just wanted to stress that Joy Con drift and Pro Controller drift are not the same! On the Joy Con Nintendo uses cheaper sticks that as far as we know will eventually wear out a lot faster than they should. They probably chose them because of the smaller size and not to save money, but still the way they handle this is unacceptable.
On the Pro Controller however they use the same analog sticks as everyone else. That's the reason why the person who wrote the repair guide posted by @wert303b was able to use PS4 replacement sticks to repair his controller. So drift issues should be a lot less common and the same as on other consoles.
@X68000 If they put everything in the code from day one and just require an online check when it is unlocked, data miners would have already found and spoiled it all.
Also Nintendo has done this "release a base version and add stuff in for free over time to keep interest up" strategy for a while now. I think it started with the first Splatoon.
@Grot Not giving money to Tencent will get pretty hard. It is funny that they always get mentioned in association with Epic (or to hate on Platinum Games for their, admittedly badly handled, Kickstarter) but nobody seems to care that they also own shares from ActivisionBlizzard, Ubisoft, Paradox or Frontier among others.
Did you know they make movies, too? I hope you didn't watch Wonder Woman, Terminator: Dark Fate or are planning to see Top Gun: Maverick.
@Sean161 I watched a video recently were someone made an argument that the Pod Race is a great example of visual storytelling that shows that George Lucas is actually a pretty decent director. The real issue with the prequels is that he isn't a very good script writer.
"If you’re concerned about making too much noise, simply just bending your knees or moving your arms are also available ways to jump rope and get your body moving."
@SyFyTy You sometimes get an island with a bunch of rocks in the middle that always give you bells, or an island that has different fruit than your home island. Also every island has coconuts which you normally also can't find on your own island.
Nook Mile Tickets are also a fast way to convert Nook miles into bells, because you can sell them at the store. You get more if you sell Bell Vouchers but it takes a long time to print several vouchers at once.
Such a great game! I should really go back to it, but I found it quite hard. So I'm afraid that it will kick my ass now that I haven't played it for several months
@SkullDragr It's funny to me that you can find a lot of conservative politicians in Europe that are more "socialist" than the so called "socialists" of the US Democrats.
Last time I checked Europe wasn't a communist hellscape, even if some people in the US want you to think that.
@DWWM You sometimes get DAL items in the mail as a thank you for flying with them. I don't have the mug, but I did get a tshirt and sleeping mask so far.
With the game been completely 2D there shouldn't be any differences in performance, resolution and framerate between platforms, right? I want to buy it on Switch but only if it runs well.
@TechaNinja I can't speak for @Aurumonado but personally I liked Pirate's Curse more as well. The biggest difference is that Pirate's Curse is an open world/Metroidvania game while 1/2 Genie Hero has a world map with separate levels and feels a lot more linear in general. It still has exploration elements but it feels scaled back a lot.
@neppan I don't understand this mindset. If you bought the console JUST for those games why not wait until at least some of them are actually available before you buy?
So the "Tamagotchi" aspect of Project Mirai is missing completely, right?
It was both cute and annoying (and a little creepy, considering you could dress up a Chibi Miko in sexy clothing) so I'm not sure if it's good or bad
I played the demo and totally sucked at it despite playing a ton of Project Mirai a few years ago. Played around with the latency settings but didn't get really satisfing results. Thankfully it worked perfectly without any fiddling in handheld mode.
Did those of you played it on PS4 have any issues with input latency?
@ShadJV I'm pretty sure the next console will be to the Switch what the 3DS was to the DS. Basically the same form factor, improved performance, very likely backwards compatible.
I'm just curious what the new gimmick will be, because every Nintendo console needs one of those. I'm not complaining BTW, it's just that sometimes it works (Wii, DS, Switch) and sometimes it doesn't (WiiU, 3DS).
@YANDMAN But when they are planning to release the finished engine at the end of 2021 we will have to wait for games that are truly using the tech, instead of just being ported over from Unreal Engine 4, until at least 2023.
@stevenw45 as I understand it this glitch requires local multiplayer. You just have to create two additional local accounts on your switch and can do it by yourself with a second controller.
Overall I probably liked it more than most people, but every great thing about it came with a catch.
I loved a more story focused Metroid game but the writing was pretty bad (I did find the main villain pretty interesting however).
It was cool to find out more about Samus` past, but her characterisation was weak.
The gameplay was very solid, but they made some weird design decisions (that boss fight were you had to constantly switch to first person to shot missiles made me pull my hair out).
It is also a technical masterpiece! I have never seen a game before or since, that transitions so seamlessly between pre-rendered cutscenes and in-engine graphics.
Touch controls worked well enough on the 3DS with a stylus. On the Switch with its capacitive touch screen it would probably suck. I tried playing a Picross game on my phone once and it was a horrible experience.
My problems are that resistive touch screens are a lot more precise and using my finger instead of a stylus covers up too much of the screen. The kind of stylus you can use with the switch is still a lot thicker then the (3)DS ones so that doesn't help me a lot, either.
@Hordak As far as I know you can only get four types of fruit with regular gameplay.

@Crono1973 You can use touch controls to draw something on the bulletin board at the Plaza, but not when designing patterns. It's a little inconsistent.

@Zyph It was a little bit different in the past. On the DS and 3DS saves were stored on the cartridge which is less likely to break than the console itself. On the WiiU you could store saves on external hard drives. But on the Switch they are locked inside the internal memory of the console.
@Burning_Spear No, as has been posted several times in this comment section already, the European website says they will add a function to transfer saves between Switches "later this year" (specifically for Animal Crossing, other games support this already).
For 9.99 € I'll probably buy Rayman Legends again, just so I don't have to boot up the WiiU to play it. Together with Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze it is the best 2D Jump and Run on the WiiU IMHO.
