Meh, hardly annoying at all. Also you can turn off tutorials which takes away some of the hand holding - but not Myles on the Radio it must be said. The game is not trying to be MP1, it’s a little different and I like the intention. I do wish the biomes were interconnected and the desert area a little more imaginative but apart from that it’s a very enjoyable and beautiful game in my opinion. 88/100
@Danrenfroe2016 depends on the car. I have burnout paradise as well and the difference in handling between the cars in Burnout is pretty minimal - arcade racing. GRID autosport is much more authentic in terms of handling which varies massively from car to car and is as close to a driver sim as we’ve got on Switch. Can tweak the car set ups to suit your style etc. It’s a driver’s dream and hits a lovely 60FPS in performance mode. I just wish the online didn’t die so soon after launch.
@Max_the_German I use my Wavebird with GRID Autosport and I expect them to keep that functionality for this beauty! BUt yes I wish the Switch2PC had analogue triggers.
Hopefully they are sweet-tuning Pikmin 4 S2edition and using the knowledge gained to inform Pikmin 5 development. Is it too soon to start praying for Pikmin 5?
Gushing praise for MP4’s visuals by DF?! Nice one! It really is the best looking Nintendo game I’ve ever played. It’s so shiny and polished!! Love Retro. The original Windwaker or F-zero GX on a small to medium CRT takes some beating but I think MP4 S2ed takes the crown.
Hunting green crystals - wife wasn't happy me spending money on myself so close to Xmas when it could be spent on the kids so I’m playing a ‘free extended demo of MP4’. 🤫
Being an 80s child this game is hitting me right in the nostalgias so I'm in! Linear games are the perfect tonic after some recent big open world affairs (looking at CyberPunk and Outlaws).
@Axelay71 didn't you get the memo?! EVERY game must now be shoe horned into an open world because because... ( I can't remember the reason but trust me every game must MUST be open world).
@IronMan30 that was my thought too. The con could be “slightly too offbeat for this reviewer” or something - if that was indeed the case. If we all start second guessing what other’s might or ‘should’ think about a game we’ll end up tiptoeing around imaginary audiences rather than reviewing the game in front of us. “Tell me what you think of the game please reviewer. Nothing more nothing less. “
I should just add I think this is a well written review and the above point is only a minor criticism.
MP4 I think has suffered from ridiculous expectations. If they’d produced something very similar to 1 it would have been blasted for not innovating. So they’ve changed it up a little (and only a little) and now it’s being blasted for not sticking closer to its roots. But I don’t care, I’m only a few hours in but so far it’s easy an 9/10 for me.
I can’t help but wonder how differently the reviewer might have scored this if they hadn’t experienced the S2 version first, given how much their positionality shapes the inherently subjective nature of reviews. It feels disproportionate to deduct over 10% of the score for these technical downgrades when surely IMO without playing the S2 version first you'd enjoy this just - or very nearly - as much. When I consider how much fun I had playing one of the greatest games of all time running at 240i 20-25fps (LoZ OoT) then I think sod this technical stuff, just enjoy the game for heavens sake!
I’m liking these detailed patch notes. The attach rate for MKW is insane so they’d be stupid not to continuously update MKW with tweaks and features and then eventually offer some meaty DLC in a couple years.
Never in doubt - bring it on!! However, people will moan if Amiibo don't unlock anything good and people will moan if Amiibo do unlock good stuff. Can't win!
All along they’ve been planning to remake and release their 1980s Fishing Derby on Switch and say “there you go, told you we’d release some cod on Switch”.
Seriously, Metroid is all about me and Samus alone in a dark room exploring uncharted territories and kicking ass. I want nothing to do with look-at-me streamers. And for the record I tend to launch my streams down the john.
I hope MP4 does better than this. While I’ll don’t think this is particularly bad for Kirby - small install base, holiday season buying so behemoths like COD and MK are always going to do big numbers, game awards shining spot light on titles… - I was hoping it would do a little better. It would be nice to know actual numbers sold.
Pilotwings says hello!!! Can’t believe Mario Kart is so low. It’s still got some of the best tracks of the entire series and controls beautifully once you get back into it. Classic game
If this was F-Zero GX2 it would score 10/10 If this was Wave Race 4 it would score 10/10 If this was Excite Truck 2 it would score 10/10 If this was Stunt Race FX2 it would score 10/10 If this was Pilotwings SW2 it would score 10/10
Still getting it but would prefer Ninty to show some love to some of these other IPs
9 of the top 20 are first party titles. Holy cow that’s impressive! Other devs must be weeping when they see that! I’m weeping but with tears of joy.
Now make a new Wave Race you cowards!!
@Dm9982 yeh I find it odd that some people think buying a cheaper unlicensed product should have the same quality and protections as the real deal. Then expect Nintendo to support these devices that are completely out of their control and expect Nintendo to then fix the console if these devices damage it! Bonkers. Why take the risk?!
@liamdoolan with polls like this could you have a conditional /branching option so that only people who vote yes I have a third party dock get to then vote in the second "does it still work after update" poll?
@kal_el_07241 For me not having to carry all my games around with me and not needing to swap out the game cards are big perks. Having said that I will always buy first party physical if available to support Nintendo's commitment to physical media. (The Pokemon Company can do one!).
@kal_el_07241 I wasn't meaning to tell you what to buy simply suggesting you can buy the digital version if you want the perks of the digital version. I've edited my post to reflect this
Ok I guess. Hopefully it’s got some serious legs like many Ninty first party titles. I fear MP4 will do great for a couple weeks but then drop off completely. Please be wrong!
The first movie was ace! Change my mind, I dare you. And my kids and I are pumped for the second. The main thing is kid appeal and they nailed it in the first one. Brilliant animation, bright and beautiful landscapes, simple yet exciting story, strong Peach (my kids are all things Peach atm), hilarious moments, not too long, I could go on. Can't wait to take my girls to the second.
Wow, I've just done the Face Off and I really struggled to get through it towards the end. It's like being asked to choose between my children and some of them had me close to tears. Resident Evil 4 vs Metroid Prime, come on! Eternal Darkness vs Rogue Squadron II, leave it out! SMB3 vs World, please now stop! I need a lie down.
@LoroTalby I don't think I agree with you. I think overall the comments here are nothing like those found elsewhere. Comparison is the thief of joy. I couldn't resist after reading NLs review and I'm loving the game so far - so is my daughter who loves all things Zelda at the moment. It looks great in action. Loads of action on screen at 60PFS most of the time. Couldn't be happier.

Half of the top 10 are first party titles!! But but but Nintendo doesn’t sell in UK??!
Sad for MP4 but hopefully with it being out early in S2 life it will have some decent legs.

"Because of Greedy Nintendo's virtual cards, you do have to "swap cards" just to play digital now too."
Well in that case you can buy the digital version.
"If your system is offline for more than a day, you cannot play any games you "own"".
Is this true? I've not read about this. It says in the explainer video above that an internet connection is not required once the game is downloaded.
