Re: Digital Foundry Delivers A Technical Breakdown Of Switch 2's DLSS

WheresWaveRace

@brakeman90 yeh I agree they are educational and I did find this video interesting. I am just concerned that some people will frame some of the featured games as 'unplayable' because - as a result of these videos - they focus on the lack of anti-aliasing or implementation of low cost DLSS etc and can't bring themselves to actually play and allow themselves to enjoy the games. So my original comment was to try and bring people back to some sort of reality (or reality as I see it anyway). Is the game fun? We are still allowed to enjoy games either if they are a little pixelated at times.

Call me old fashioned but when playing my games I don't make a habit of slowing time down to 1/3 and zooming right in to see every pixel because I'm too busy enjoying the game. The Switch2 doesn't cost £1000 so let's not expect £1000 worth of performance and be grateful we are getting some awesome games. That's my old fashioned view anyway.

@B3RTAY you know, when I first read your comment I thought you were slating the game but now that I've re-read it I've realised perhaps you used the term 'purgatory' as in cleansing the soul (not a state of eternal suffering as was my initial thought). In that case I would agree, it definitely is a soul cleanser and I think it's a nice little game. I still disagree with you though and think that nice little games can fill the 'nice little game' brief perfectly and deserve the same chance to score highly as the big budget games.

Or did you mean eternal suffering?

@Cipher36 yes I can see that storing so many digital games poses a challenge at today's storage medium prices. I'm not too bothered about that at the moment as storage gets continually cheaper so in 15-20 years or whenever we get told Switch2 redownload servers will get switched off I'll make sure they are all downloaded. Also it's worth bearing in mind storing 600 physical games comes with its own storage challenge as well! As much as I love my huge collection of physical games from BBC Micro onwards (yes I'm that old) it takes up half the bloody loft. Having said this I will always buy Nintendo first party games in physical form provided the game is on cart.

Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart World Takes The Lead While Cronos Sees Weak Sales On Switch 2

WheresWaveRace

@Solid_Python this was certainly true in the not so distant past but Ninty have been doing really well in the UK since the OG Switch launched so this narrative needs to be updated to Ninty and Playstation dominated/contested region with M$ left behind (in physical sales for sure).

To back this up just look at this week
26/40 titles on Nintendo Platforms - possibly more as I'm not sure if one of those Witcher3 versions or Need for Speed is the Switch version.
11/40 first party titles!!!

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Kart World Gets Back To Demolishing The Competition

@Johnny44 yes and no. If people didn't want to buy MKW then the console only SKU is available for them so it's not that misleading like say WiiSports pack in numbers. It would be good to know what percentage of these MKW sales are bundle sales. I can imagine some people have gone the more expensive route to get the physical copy of the game. I'd be interested to know how many. Long live physical!

EDIT: wait these are physical only so does that mean pack in download codes for MKW don't count?! In that case holy mackerel MKW is absolutely killing it in JP.

@StuTwo I'd love to be in a brainstorming session coming up with new ideas for the sanity effects for a sequel. Things like the home screen popping up and it pretends to erase your game save files in front of your eyes, screen goes blank with "no input detected" message, a switch OS notification pops up saying your console is overheating and must switch off before it corrupts, then goes blank and won't turn back on (pretend of course), how about Joycon drift (that would be hilarious).

Re: Preview: Sakurai's Kirby Air Riders Is A Kaleidoscopic Adrenaline Rush

WheresWaveRace

@Ichiban a DKR story mode would have been the icing on the cake. What is clear though is that Sakurai was holding some stuff back. This felt like an introduction to the game albeit an in-depth intro and hopefully there are more reveals to come. Certainly has to be more tracks. Hopefully another game mode. Could a story mode come down the line as DLC? The mechanics are looking tight, the game speed looks incredible, the big number of permutations - riders, machines and copy abilities -on all those attributes makes my head spin, in a good way. If MP online on same console is a thing this will go down very well in my house.
