I have a TCL QLED and while I’m impressed with the image quality and game master, VRR and ALLM, the OS is sloowwwww. Not that that matters much for gaming.

@Poco_Lypso are you talking about CD Projekt or Nintendo? It sounds like you’re talking about the Zelda Switch 2 optional upgrades for people that already own the games. You’ve paid for Switch 1 games that will still work in Switch 2. You can choose not to buy optional upgrades. I see no problem here. They need a return on the work to make the upgrades.

Also “give us paid upgrade”? Do you mean provide the option to buy an upgrade? We can always vote with our wallets.

@Poco_Lypso I guess it depends on the size of the update. If it's just a tweak to get it running and a slight performance improvement then yes sure making that free could be a good move for the company to promote customer relations and to squeeze out a few more sales. If it's a big performance update to get the best out of the new console then I for one would be happy to pay for it. Something in the region of £10. If they release a new exclusive Switch 2 edition that's been reworked with all new bells and whistles I probably wouldn't double dip but would be happy for those that get to experience an improved version of such a monumental game.

I hope it’s 15 minutes of WaveRace mode - but I’m not going to watch it anyway because I don’t want anymore spoilers.

For those thinking how this might impact sales, the DS did pretty well with download play. Console and Games were obviously much cheaper but still. I wouldn’t want to guess if it’ll hurt sales or not. However I’m hopeful we’ll see this implemented on many games to lessen the blow of how expensive there are.

This is brilliant! Download play is back - sort of - and works with the OG switch. Ingenious move.

@Hank_Scorpio same here. GRID, Alien and also RocketLeague get a lot of play time in my house. Hopefully they’ll get sorted. I’d even be tempted with Switch 2 edition patches for these games to beef up their performance some what. GRID auto sport could do with some love. Great game.

This isn't their first direct sequel console...For example NES--> SNES. GB--> GBA. DS-->3DS are the most obvious ones. Perhaps he is confused because in those cases they went with adjective/prefix (super and 3) and 'advanced' instead of the boring number 2. (Still wish they'd gone for Super Duper Switch instead of Switch 2).

I really hope they flesh this out into a good full game that gains enough traction to sustain an online community for the life of the Switch 2. If only as wheelchair sports get no love and just seeing this game may help to break down some barriers and stigma around para sports in general. I’m surprised this isn’t mentioned much.

@bleeflooflah my thoughts too. This needs more attention. Could be inbox in new messaging system. Although wouldn’t that be in GameChat function? Could it be casting to TV perhaps? Possibly through the dock. Certainly the big rectangle makes me think TV and the curved lines are going towards the TV not away. I would have thought though that if it was casting the curved lines would come from under the TV as if from the console in your hands. Intriguing

I disagree with this design choice. I’ll be racing F-Zero GX on NSO with my original spice orange GC controller and GC adapter. Or I’ll go back to my original GC + GC Carby plus mClassic on original hardware (forced to output 480p upscaled to 1440p with mClassic) for the (somewhat) authentic experience and still unbelievably beautiful game.

@Samalik I haven’t connected my Wii to the internet in years and all my downloaded games are just fine so I’m not sure what your point is. They can’t just magically turn downloaded games off if they work offline.

@electrolite77 @OorWullie I agree with you both here! Obviously I’d rather the full game on cart but this isn’t such a bad idea. More transparent than an incomplete game on cart and plus get to share the game around with family and mates.

@Samalik you don’t lose ownership! You own the right to play the game that you have downloaded onto 1 or possibly more of your devices. You just can’t resell the cart if the download function ever stops.

We really don’t know how much content there’ll be in this manual/tech demo thing so I’m not getting carried away. Having said that, unless it’s got “good game content” I’m probably not going to buy it and if it was free I probably would have played it for a couple of mins only so no big loss. If it’s informative and fun then likely to be worth the money. Wii Sports pack in spoiled us me thinks.

So if the dock has a higher voltage rating are we thinking this could ‘connect’ to the dock to stream the video and then perhaps the dock also upscales the low res video as well using NVidia AI magic to reduce the burden on the battery? I’m a little behind on this Connect dual screen theory.

I’m imaging now that the top USB-C on Switch 2 could be used for a little plug-in player facing camera. And this shadow effect could be adjusted using head tracking to create an illusion of depth. As the depth of the shadow in real 3D would depend on what angle you are looking from. Could be a cool little feature in 2D-3D games.

@Clyde_Radcliffe yeh I hear you. NSO is going nowhere, why have they announced this little update now when it’s happening in 7 months time? It feels weird. I can’t get my head around this announcement.

Something is telling me this might coincide with a certain console release date. I hope not as I need that puppy in my hands sooner but this announcement feels weird. Why would people be cancelling their NSO membership at that time? Why give people an incentive to cancel. Me don’t like.

Let’s be honest most of the top 10 are some of the greatest games of all time. Personal preference will sway from game to game but let’s rejoice in just how consistently good mainline Mario games are! But anyway my personal favourite is Banjo Kazooie (jk).

Goldeneye brought joy to millions of people, bringing friends together for insane multiplayer fun like no game had done before. I had many mates that weren’t gamers at all but wanted to have goldeneye sessions late into the night. Not many games have ever had the same effect. It is legendary and this hall of fame rubbish can never change that.

I love how Digital Foundry’s “significantly different” translates to “can just about spot a difference” in normal parlance.

@SoIDecidedTo Eternal Darkness broke the 4th wall so much that we now live in eternal darkness awaiting a sequel that will never come.

I have the original mClassic and while it doesn’t do much to improve HD signals it does improve 480p signal a lot. This alone makes it worth its weight in gold for me.

I sure hope Wave Race 4 passes 10 million in the next financial year.

@Sylamp yes it’s sad, I was referring to the greatest futuristic racer of all time. And I put 128 in there which was a nod to Mario128 which laid the foundations for Pikmin, another series close to my aging heart. I do these things for my own amusement you see cos life - without WaveRace, F-zero and 1080 -is rather boring.

I want them to implant a modern SFX chip developed my Argonaut straight into my brain to enhance the visuals beyond our imaginations. Anything less and I’m not interested! Oh wait - sorry I forgot I don’t really care too much about specs. Give me fun games, stylised or not, don’t care just pump them this way please!!

I can wait. Unless it’s being demoed with the new F-Zero128 title developed my Amusement Vision. Now that I can’t wait for.

@Max_the_German this I can totally agree with! Most side quests I completed I just assumed were part of the main game because they were that good! Brilliant brilliant game

These polls are good but they’ll likely be skewed in favour of the most popular games as many people will not have played all the titles and therefore vote for the best one they know. The only other way I can think would be for each reader to assign a score to each side quest - much like rating games. This might reduce some of this bias.
