This with REmake, the Metroid Prime games and the two Zeldas make the cube such an awesome machine. Chuck in F-Zero GX, WaveRace, 1080 and a brilliant Mario Kart for good measure and racing fans are covered. Gaming nights with Monkey Ball and Double Dash were only ever matched by MK64 and Goldeneye nights a few years prior. What a time.

@Qwiff this is easily just as good as Tropical Freeze. While I’ll hand it to you that LM3 is objectively better in most ways than LM2 and I understand not wanting to buy LM2 port this is different. (Id recommend playing LM2 on 3DS anyway for the 3D effect). But DKR is one of my favourite games from the Wii era and is every bit as good as TF. Unless they bodged this HD port ofc.

@Summer235 depends on your perspective. For those that haven’t played before perhaps it’s quite steep. For those that get to experience for the first time perhaps it’s an absolutely brilliant game deserving of the price. I’m in the former category but very happy new players get to experience an absolute gem

@DiamondJim I’m not rebuying it - I have the Wii original and loved the hell out of it back in the day but don’t feel the need to buy it again. My view is this release is mainly for the people that haven’t played it before to get to enjoy a brilliant game. My nephew wasn’t even alive when the 3DS version (!) was released and he’s getting it (I insisted as obviously I wanna pop round and show him how to DK properly).

@calbeau I recommend plenty of isotonic drinks and water. While drinking water alone will help, you’ll also dilute all the other natural salts as presumably you’ve been self-medicating with only NaCl. Good luck. Hopefully this BS publicity stunt pandemic will be over soon.

So you’ll telling me the force of someone’s thumb press is enough to prise apart but with the whole hand you need to brute force it off? Something smells.

Edit: while I understand grip strength can be very strong this is Nintendo, they would design it so that kids will be able to disconnect the JC without the thumb press strength of an adult.

My prediction is the console will launch with some games to buy as well, it will play said games and some people including myself will buy console and games and play said games. Do I get a job as an analyst?

@HotGoomba perhaps SwiitchU? With a standard white version and a black deluxe version launching with more storage and NintendolandDeluxe. And then market it the exact same as original Switch (same logo etc) just to make sure everyone knows it’s a new console right?

@swoose does the warranty info on the Nintendo page reference a Switch 2 JC after inputting this serial number? Seems just as likely that the serial number was copied from a previous Switch 1 JC.

@Euler I agree they are more likely to go with a creative name more representative of whatever the new thing is about the next version that they want to emphasise. I just think if they choose to go with a numbered entry again I think they’ll consider it to be the 10th or even 11th version of MK when you add MKTour into the mix. IIRC they went with using 7 as it’s considered a lucky number in many places around the world and 8 as it makes a figure of 8 track. If there’s an extreme element perhaps MKXtreme! Who knows. I sure hope it looks and feels different to 8D.

I’m guessing the next Mario Kart will be MK10 (or MKX) as 8Deluxe is so huge and extended beyond the original WiiU 8 it’s likely its own numbered entry.

@Astropez agreed. Achievements can piss off. Player rewards should be built in to the game design seamlessly not tacked on with naff little meaningless trophies.

I’m glad all the comments so far echo my thoughts. No one artist is bigger than the IP. Get a grip.

I think this remake is targeting people like me that were so close to getting the original but put off by mixed reviews. I’ve certainly got my eye on this. If it reviews well I’ve take the plunge.

Sounds like CivVII could do with being held back to be a launch title for the SuperDooperSwitch. I’d be seriously tempted if that was the case.

Firmly in the no way camp. Wouldn’t want to detract from those last min Xmas sales. Most likely we’ll get something in Jan / Feb possibly Mar at latest.

Fortunately for us game prices haven’t gone up with inflation over the past few decades meaning now we have more choice and they are cheaper than ever before. Lest we forget Turok released at £70 in 1997 and according to BoE calculator is equivalent to £134.87 today. I like to keep this mind when I start moaning about an already cheap game getting ‘only’ a 33% discount.

In the entertainment space in general I think Nintendo’s biggest direct competition is from tablet gaming. Kids love tablets. Gamers like us might want both a PS5/PC and a Switch and so for us they are competing but we are the core not the mainstream. Basically I think a decent PSPortable can co-exist quite happily without affecting Ninty too much and so I welcome one.

Just a thought. If ninty had put loads of games on NSO upfront would people continue to subscribe to this day after having tried / played most of them early on? Would NSO be sustainable in this case? As much as I want every game available now (where’s Wetrix?!) perhaps I’m thinking it’s best to enjoy what we’ve got now and I’ll maintain my subscription to show I want more titles added. Disclaimer: having subscribed from day 1 I chose to cancel for over a year but FOMO got the better of me recently.

@Ultimapunch when you’ve only 240p or 480p resolution the required number of pixels to make legible text means the characters will be large on the screen. These days they can make tiny (but still legible text if you can see it), as they’ve got so many more pixels to play with.
