Pure speculation but possibly when they submitted for the rating they were hoping to have Switch 2 ready for this holiday season and this game would have been a summer send off. Then delayed M&L release to fill some of void left by pushing the SuperDooperSwitch back to 2025.
Edit: and I really want the console to be called the superdooperswitch now that I’ve said it.
Loved original back in the day. Loved the Wii trilogy version with WiiMote controls. It comes a very close second to its predecessor, one of the very best games of all time. Please remaster it prompto.
@roboshort good point. With the financial aspects considered why have Sony opted to make an expensive and likely to be quite niche product that’ll piss off and confuse the customer base. The PS1 and 2 sold gangbusters because they were good value first and foremost. IMO Sony have lost the plot.
@Serialsid thanks for the info. If sales do drop off to a few thousand next week as most expect the pro model really isn’t going to grow the user base that much and surely it’ll piss off those that have recently invested in a standard PS5. Not sure the (niche selling) PS5 pro is a smart move. Anyway I certainly won’t be getting one. Saving my pennies for the super switch.
Amazing news. Expected but still amazing. Now let’s hope for some performance patches for existing Switch games that boost performance. Guess this will be up to the devs if it’s indeed possible unless Ninty has done some performance magic that works on all Switch games. However Can only see that being a post processing up res effect maybe via DLSS. Improving frame rates would surely need the code reworked through patches.
@judaspete yes agreed. Seems like an easy win to me. I understand not wanting to cannibalise MK sales but MK is family oriented and these would be slightly more mature oriented and would compliment rather than cannibalise surely.
@jojobar check the returns policy and your region’s consumer statutory rights. If you have a number of days to return it and receive a full refund like in UK and EU then play it and see if you like it, safe in the knowledge you can get a refund if you don’t like it.
I knew this port was wanted but I wasn’t expecting this level of craze around it. I am genuinely very happy for my fellow gamers (but I was hoping for some Switch 2 news tbh). Nevertheless I never got round to playing this originally so this gives me the perfect opportunity to add it to my never ending backlog.
Smash could do with a longer rest til the next game otherwise it will go stale. If some switch OG games inc smash get a boost in performance / DLSS up to 4k on Switch 2 maybe the next mainline Smash can launch the switch 3. There’ll be an huge appetite then. I’m hoping this new game is something totally new. And I’m hoping he’s given the space, freedom and time to perfect it to match his vision. The guy is a living legend.
I once spent £50 on a game that cost hundreds of thousands to develop and distribute so I can do whatever I like with the game ad infinitum because it’s my game right. But holy mackerel the nerve of the actual developers doing what they like with their own IP that’s not allowed!! Jesus effing C- (throws toys and kitchen sink out of pram).
@batmanbud2 what? The surface landscape is totally ripped up with so many new features like caves, wells etc. then there’s a whole new massive map in the depths with insane verticality. And then the sky islands to boot (again insane verticality). BoTW’s map was pretty much 2D. Therefore once you add that up, ToTK’s map is nearly x3 the size and tbh is actually quite daunting.
It’s mildly and I mean very mildly annoying. No game breaker. I often remind myself that I used to love Stunt Race FX (Pal) and that was 12.5FPS so we’ve got it so so so so good these days.
The first film was a huge commercial success because… it was actually pretty good and kids loved/ still love it. Surely they can’t do a similar princess, Bowser story this time so hopefully it’s a bit less safe/generic with some good twists. I’m really looking forward to it.
@BiscuitCrumbsInMyBed I so hope this is true. I want the QoL sensor to dictate what smells are released. For example the smell of Camomile and Lavender to help me relax during RE4Rmake (or should it be the rancid smell of rotting flesh?). Some delicious cooking smells like frying bacon during Cooking Mama. The smell of salty sea air while cruising round Marina Bay in WaveRace4. The smell of freshly cut grass in Zelda. Actually the more I think about this the more I want it!
@Tempestryke yes that’s my exactly point. When download servers go off line downloaded games should and will remain playable forever (provided the game can be played offline of course). People seem to be in a right state thinking buying a game digitally means you can only play it while the game is available to download. Which is utter nonsense for most downloadable games.
I don’t understand the uproar here. With digital downloads you own the storage media containing the downloaded data that makes up the game you have a licence to play. Which is basically the same as owning an official cartridge containing the game data that you have a licence to play. And as long as you can play the game offline you should always be able to play the game. Live service games are the problem but that’s the same whether the base game is digital or physical. This clarification is to make sure the storefronts correctly reflect the copyright licensing law. Nothing really has changed. It’s always been you buy a licence to play the game. Same with music heck even books!!
@Jalex_64 thanks that’s good info. I’m hoping for a DS to 3DS style transition where the form factor is fairly similar (but not essential), it’s obviously more powerful and has that wow factor. I’m not suggesting they put in a stereoscopic screen but that was the wow factor of the 3DS. What is going to be the wow factor this time? Rumoured Second screen? although I’d love to see it, it’s not going to bring the same wow.
@electrolite77 if it is indeed a sequel to the switch. It could be something completely left field. I really hope it’s not just a souped up switch sequel. I want to be surprised and wowed.
@electrolite77 yes I sort of agree with you on form factor on the 3DS. Obviously they look very similar. But the new thing / gimmick was ofc the screen. With the WiiU yes the console looked similar but it was all about the screen in the WiiU GamePad. Totally different form factor. New style of play etc.
There is zero chance this is real. When have Ninty released a console similar in form to its predecessor? Upgrades like GB pocket/colour don’t count. Tip: the answer is never.
I think in Sept/Oct we’ll get a mini or full direct focussed on upcoming games and then the big reveal in early Spring building up to a late summer / autumn release. Plus it will released with WaveRace 4 - the last part is a joke.
My thoughts are it has to be cheaper than the competition and it has to be in impulse buy territory. Most parents don’t care about specs as much as they do price and quality games. 500USD is DOA. Even 400USD feels too high to me.
Is Resident Evil scary? Serious question. I don’t remember ever feeling scared. Sure I feel the low ammo tension with a zombie round the corner but that’s manageable and a challenge. Dogs jumping through windows? Bring it on
Couch MP with Goldeneye will always be some of the very best days of gaming. Thank you for the memories. You and your work will live on in the hearts and minds of millions of people for generations. A true legacy. Rest in peace.
The fact that they’ve bothered to release this so late in Switch’s life might indicate JoyCons will be hanging around for a while ie they will be compatible with the super ultra switch and we will need an official way to charge them if they can’t attach to the super ultra switch.
No it won’t be a switch 2 game because the switch successor will be called Super Ultra Dolphin Simulator so it will be a Super Ultra Dolphin Simulator game. Come on you can do better NL.
I can’t wait for the complete left field device that we all thought was switch 2. No chance will they go with the name Switch 2 as much as a shame as that is.
