Re: Mini Review: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (Switch 1) - An Impressive Version If You've Yet To Upgrade

WheresWaveRace

I can’t help but wonder how differently the reviewer might have scored this if they hadn’t experienced the S2 version first, given how much their positionality shapes the inherently subjective nature of reviews. It feels disproportionate to deduct over 10% of the score for these technical downgrades when surely IMO without playing the S2 version first you'd enjoy this just - or very nearly - as much. When I consider how much fun I had playing one of the greatest games of all time running at 240i 20-25fps (LoZ OoT) then I think sod this technical stuff, just enjoy the game for heavens sake!

Re: UK Charts: Kirby Air Riders Narrowly Misses Out On A Top Ten Spot

WheresWaveRace

I hope MP4 does better than this. While I’ll don’t think this is particularly bad for Kirby - small install base, holiday season buying so behemoths like COD and MK are always going to do big numbers, game awards shining spot light on titles… - I was hoping it would do a little better. It would be nice to know actual numbers sold.

Re: Pokémon Pokopia Is Seemingly Nintendo's First Game-Key Card Release

@kal_el_07241

"Because of Greedy Nintendo's virtual cards, you do have to "swap cards" just to play digital now too."

Well in that case you can buy the digital version.

"If your system is offline for more than a day, you cannot play any games you "own"".

Is this true? I've not read about this. It says in the explainer video above that an internet connection is not required once the game is downloaded.

Re: Poll: What Do You Make Of The Mario Galaxy Movie's Leaked Yoshi Design?

WheresWaveRace

The first movie was ace! Change my mind, I dare you. And my kids and I are pumped for the second. The main thing is kid appeal and they nailed it in the first one. Brilliant animation, bright and beautiful landscapes, simple yet exciting story, strong Peach (my kids are all things Peach atm), hilarious moments, not too long, I could go on. Can't wait to take my girls to the second.

@LoroTalby I don't think I agree with you. I think overall the comments here are nothing like those found elsewhere. The overwhelming majority of comments - and users for that matter - are in my honest opinion respectful and true gamers at heart and I enjoy being a part of this community. Please don't start sullying this community because of a couple of silly comments

Re: EA Is Diving Headfirst Into Generative AI With New Partnership

WheresWaveRace

I’m a research scientist. This morning I’ve been working on a dataset. I wanted to write a script to process and graph the results. Quite basic really. I could have spent a few hours working on this either writing from scratch or finding and adapting someone’s script to use but instead I prompted co-pilot AI to write the script and within a few mins I had it done plus the code is much better annotated than I would have done. It’s this type of AI assistance that is transformative for me and I could imagine this really helping game developers albeit on a more complicated level than data processing and visualisation. Having said that these tools already exist so I wonder what this AI partnership is really designed for. Hopefully not generative art and character design. Leave that to the devs please.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws Lands Another Update On Switch 2, Here Are The Patch Notes

WheresWaveRace

@mlt I think you need to factor in that Nintendo is half a generation ahead (or the others are half a gen behind) in the traditional generations because the WiiU was such a commercial flop. Yes the WiiU compared favourably to the PS3 but the PS3 had been out for years competing against the Wii. And the WiiU was miles behind the PS4 in terms of power. But then the Switch arrived thank the lord!

Re: 50 Best NES Games Of All Time

WheresWaveRace

@Dr_Corndog other way round for me. I think it would be comical if the scores weren’t low - particularly as these user reviews are being applied decades after release - as that would indicate after decades of learning, games haven’t gotten objectively better - which of course they have. And when I think about it like this and how well Mario 3 has stood the test of time, it really makes me appreciate how good for its time it truly was. A ground breaking and standard setting game.
