This ain't the type of game I would associate with Nintendo players anyway plus the Switch 2 probably couldn't run it as well (if at all) as the other platforms so cross play wouldn't be good.
I'm not usually a Mario Kart fan as I get bored quickly but I'm quite looking forward to this one, being open world and hopefully having more stuff to do in the open world sounds great.
Well whilst true it makes the Switch 2 look more lucrative you have to remember the PS5 is still a lot more powerful and will still have third party games that won't make it to Switch 2 and games that have full features compared to the Switch 2 versions. So I don't see this price increase effecting much for the Switch 2.
Sad to not see Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma and Bravely Default Remaster up there as they are two of three launch games il be getting along with Mario Kart World.
Why not mention it's a paid upgrade for the Switch 1 to Switch 2 version but it's a free upgrade from the PS4 to PS5 version? Makes absolutely no sense unless Nintendo are forcing developers to charge for upgrades as they know they will get a cut.
Does it really matter if it's not as powerful as a PS5 or Series S/X? The Switch 1 was also under powered compared to the competition and yet it sold incredible amounts. The Switch sold best because of its form factor and because it had (by far) the best software and exclusives at a steady rate that kept it relevant and kept people talking about it the whole generation, it's not like the Series consoles where no one was talking about it just after a year or two even though it offers the cheapest gateway into current gen gaming, why? Because there's no brand power and the exclusives ain't there anymore especially now that they are going full third party.
Nintendo won't allow that to happen to themselves, they have the brand power, the form factor and they will keep the Switch 2 relevant and wanted by releasing a consistent flow of exclusives, that's what makes the Switch 2 worth the price tag, the games.
Let's face it there will 100% be some Zelda HD Remasters and Remakes coming to the Switch 2, but I don't think this is one of them. I just hope that whatever does make it over doesn't force us to use those awful looking mouse controls.
I suppose the price being a problem varies depending on the person. For me it's a combination of two things, the IP and how much I like it, and the amount of hours I will get out of the game. If its an IP I like like Zelda, Splatoon or Xenoblade then I'm willing to pay more as I know i will get 100 hours of content from them, I suppose the same can be said about the new Mario Kart World. But once they start charging £75 for games that's can be completed in 10-15 hours then I'm out, I will just rent the game or get cheaper second hand.
Don mattricks speech was more damaging, but we can't ignore the multitude of negatives surrounding the Switch 2. The Switch 1 launch was nothing like this, was pure hype from everyone and hardly a concern with the fans.
Its also doesn't help with trumps tariffs which are now 104% for China, there's absolutely no way the US launch stays the course. I'd expect either a delay just for the US (or whole of North America) or a huge price increase that prices people out of getting one.
Just pre ordered at Argos as I could use PayPal pay in 3, cancelled my Shopto back order and will probably cancel my pre order with my local game shop as well as I trust Argos more.
@Bizaster You know what you're right that was ignorant of me and I've removed my comment. Though as someone from the UK I despise the guy and his decisions, he says he wants to make America great again but all he's doing is making life harder for his people and making America more enemies.
It seems to me Nintendo are putting a lot of things in place to discourage developers from going physical and encourage players to buy digital. I wouldn't be surprised if the Switch 2 is Nintendo's last console that will support physical games, and I fully expect a mid gen refresh (similar to Switch OLED) that's digital only.
For the UK you're looking at £396 for the console, £75 for a proper controller, and then £120+ for two launch games, of you want online and voice chat you then have to pay a subscription fee as well. Then for me (and many others) I feel necessary to but a screen protector and a case. So currently I'm looking at £600+ on launch day which is probably the most I've ever spent on a console launch. And that's without buy any of the expensive extra storage cards.
I didn't think a console launch from Nintnedo would ever cost this much just to get a similar (it's less) experience to other consoles on the market but I suppose that's the price to pay to have a hybrid system that has mid tier PC capabilities. I think once the console had launched and players get the system in their hands and tried the new features and played games in 4k HDR then maybe they will ease up their opinions on the pricing and appreciate what the system offers.
Not a fan of the big red space at the top and then there's the text on the upgrade versions that ruin the art. Probably the worst game cases I can remember in a long time if not full stop.
Only two wants for the launch line up, that's Mario Kart World and Bravely Default Remastered. Tbh even if I couldn't get a Switch 2 at launch I don't think I'd be that gutted due to the games I want the most coming later.
That doesn't surprise me, tbh from what I've seen so far of Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza and the new Hyrule Warriors I don't see why they can't be on the Switch 1. I honestly think these games started off being developed for the Switch until maybe 12 to 18 months ago that got changed so they could have launch games for the Switch 2.
@OldGamer999 Already have mine pre ordered with my local game (not GAME) store paid a deposit today and I was first on the list. Thanks for the heads up though 👍.
Had a quick look and checked out they require the money straight up which I don't have right now, if there was an option for PayPal pay in 3 I would have bought it and had it for the misses.
It's sad to see honestly as Nintendo are using the success and popularity of the switch 1 to be greedy. Getting rid of gold coins, no more 2 for £84 vouchers, locking voice chat behind a paywall, charging £75 for physical games and probably the most absurd of them all charging for the Switch 2 tutorial.
@ButterySmooth30FPS it wasn't £70 physical though, it was £60 at its highest
Mario Kart World is £75 for physical which is a absurd as there's no way it has a bigger budget than Tears of the Kingdom.
This is their way pricing people out of physical and paving the way for an all digital upgraded Switch 2 later on and potentially digital only Switch 3.
Personally it will depend on the game but I think I've got no choice but to buy most of my Switch 2 games digitally as I can buy Nintendo eshop credit for a cheaper price than what I'm getting, no way I'm paying £75 for a standard game.
Just found out physical games are going to cost £75..... Wtf 😬. Plus they have removed the 4 for £84 game vouchers so gaming on the Switch 2 is going to be one hell of an expense and could price some out of not getting one (especially parents).
9/10 from me, what they shown of the Hardware looked good and they showed a lot of games. Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bonanza, Hyrule Warriors and Bravely Default Remastered are all day one.
@OldGamer999 I can't remember seeing if you can use the Switch 1 pro controller but I don't see why not, the new pro controller has the new C button, a headphone port and two extra mapabble buttons on the back.
Got mine pre ordered at Shopto and at my local game shop just got to pay a deposit tomorrow to guarantee my day one place. Super looking forward to it, day one games will be Mario Kart World and Bravely Default Remaster.
@Friendly How so? These aren't heavy demanding games like GTA 6 and Monster Hunter Wilds which the latter surely would have been shown today if it was coming to Switch 2.
Plus the majority of these games coming to the Switch 2 are PS4 version games not PS5.
Going to be Dead on Arrival, no one wants the main consoles never mind an handheld which will most likely cost £600+ and with the Switch 2 right around the corner.
@Slideaway1983 Yeah that's my concern too, are Shopto going to take the money once the pre order price gets announced or do they take the money at dispatch? If its the former then I may also have to cancel as I probably won't have the money spare especially if pre orders go live properly next week. Fingers crossed its that they take money on dispatch 🤞.
@Slideaway1983 Yeah that's the one I did, i think I did it the day after it went live so I'm hoping not many people knew about it and I'm high up in the list.
