On PS5 i will be playing YS The Oath in Felghana and the Tales of Arise DLC
On Switch 2 I will be continuing with the amazing Donkey Kong Bananza currently on the Tempest Layer and don't want it to end although I have a feeling I don't have much left. I will also be starting either Mary Skelter Nightmares or Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Kid, depends what mood I'm in.
Also just completed The Adventures of Elliott demo and it was great, reminds me of classic Zelda and YS games. Definitely a day one buy for me.
Physical media is dying, it's nonexistent on PC, the next Xbox likely won't support physical and Playstation won't be far behind as 95% of game sales are digital for them already. Nintendo will eventually be the same, I wouldn't be surprised if we see an digital only Switch 2 launch in a few years time. Selling digital games cheaper than the physical version is them trying to convince you to go digital, key cards are already making you go digital just in a round about way.
There's nothing anyone can do to stop this trajectory, best get used it as there's no where to turn to as every other platform is even more digital focussed, either stop complaining or just give up playing games altogether when the time comes.
Also how are people moaning about lack of exclusives? The console is barely 2 months old.....
The console looks too similar to Switch 1? How would you make an handheld console look so different from each other? All these handhelds (pc handhelds) look 95% the same.
Don't like the idea of digital games? Then where you going to go? Playstation and Xbox focus way more on digital, there's a lot more games that are digital only on their platforms. PC? Everything is digital full stop.
£80 games? Yeah this is going to be the industry standard across all platforms, Playstation and Xbox will be doing the same very soon and so will the bigger publishers. Definitely by the start of their next gen consoles, only difference is Nintendo will still be offering physical copies with digital being cheaper but the rest will be forcing you to pay that price for digital only whilst they abandon physical games.
Am I the only one not bothered by these game key cards? As long as I can play the game I've bought then that's all that matters to me. This is much better than the code in a box we were getting with the Switch 1, this time i can actually still sell the games once I'm done with them which is going to save me hundreds. I understand for those who want to collect games and play them many years after the store has closed down then it's a problem, but for those that just buy games and play them once I don't see this as a problem at all.
@LastFootnote I know it's highly unlikely but one can wish. I also have a suspicion Professor Layton is getting delayed, it's Level 5 after all. I do think they will have one release in October which is Pokémon, one in November which will be Metroid, and then one in December which will be either Hyrule Warriors or Splatoon Raiders.
If they can release Pokémon Legends Z-A, Metroid Prime 4, Hyrule Warriors and Splatoon Raiders in the last three months of the year then that's a insane end to the year. Even more so if Professor Layton releases as well.
Great to see, hopefully it keeps this momentum and does as well as the Switch 1. My money's also ready for a special edition, I wonder what the first one will be.
I think I may skip this one live and watch the trailers seperately. Not really interested in third party games that are already on PS5 as that's where I will be playing them or have already played them. The Switch 2 for me is an exclusives machine, so I dare say there will be a couple of third party exclusives like Professor Layton but I will just watch the trailer on YouTube for those.
Clearly they couldn't get it running on the Switch 1, either the game is too demanding or they are too lazy to spend more time optimising. They will probably announce a Switch 2 version at some point.
@Mgalens Exactly, it's either 30fps or Switch 2 don't get the game. It's better than nothing and to me 30fps is perfectly playable and has been for many gaming generations, we are still getting PS5 and Xbox games that run at 30fps so it's not just a Nintendo issue either.
I'm not surprised and I never expected the Switch 2 to run these bigger games at anything higher than 30fps. People need to get used to this, just because it's more powerful doesn't mean it can start running games like the PS5/Series X can.
@ParrakerriRush Pokémon is the biggest franchise in the world, and that's not an opinion that's a fact. So it makes sense to do a Pokémon bundle over anything else. I'm just surprised they didn't do a special edition console, maybe too soon.
On PS5 i will be playing Flintlock The Siege of Dawn and Valkyria Chronicles Remastered. I will also be starting Banishers Ghosts of New Eden on the Portal.
On Switch 2 it's more Donkey Kong Bananza and Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma
I don't see the big fuss on why it should be hush hush as it was nothing amazing, just their attempt at copying Roblox/Minecraft which both are far ahead in terms of quality.
@NinjaWaddleDee yep, and to top it off they also have voice acting, something that Pokémon games should have by now but I suppose that billion a year revenue isn't enough to fund VAs.
@ChopperDX The 30th anniversary is next year and will be a year long celebration, so I'm certain gen 10 will be announced at next year's Pokémon day and will release in November that year.
Anything else is possible though at next week's showcase, I suspect some kind of mobile game will be announced, some Pokémon songs for the music app and maybe even a Remake announcement (fingers crossed it's Black/White).
@NinjaWaddleDee Now maybe I'm part of the problem as I will buy any game they put out as I've been a huge fan since it first came over to West all those years ago. But, even I have admit the quality isn't the best, infact for the amount of money Pokémon makes per year there's absolutely no excuse not to make better quality games, no excuse not to upgrade their game engine, no excuse not to upgrade their development size and do more testing before release. They need to treat the games like an AAA mega franchise instead of an Indie level rushed niche title. I've seen better improvements from smaller jrpgs like the Atelier Series.
I'm going to be gutted (but not surprised) if we see delays to Metroid and Professor Layton. I mention these two specifically as I have a feeling if there was going to be any delays these two are the likely suspects.
@HeadPirate I remember reading an interview which they said if the series does well in the west then they would consider doing English VA again, that was around the time Ryza 1 released and in my opinion that trilogy has sold very well. But yet Yumia and Resleriana don't have English VA.
Edit: Actually he said if enough fans requested it they would add English VA again.
@HeadPirate But didn't the previous DX versions have English VA because the base games had English VA to begin with. Both Sophie and Firis had English VA but Lydie didn't so with the DX versions Sophie and Firis kept the English VA whilst Lydie skipped it. So the chances this trilogy will have been dubbed is pretty much zero.
People need to understand Sony don't really care about the Japanese market as much as they think they do. They are still selling incredibly well in Europe and America and are getting a bigger market share in China and Korea than they ever have. It's unfortunate as the high end Japanese games still have to rely on Playstation for the majority of their sales as Xbox brings them nothing, but Sony really have moved on from fighting for the Japanese player base. We shall see how Marvel Tokon and Ghost of Yotei do but I don't expect anything amazing sales wise.
@FredBiletnikoff True that, thinking about it both have a lot of skill trees depending on what you focus on, Fantasy Life has a skill tree for every job whereas Rune Factory has a skill tree for every weapon and sacred treasure. I just feel Rune Factories is easier to do and less of a grind.
@Linkus I've put over 50 hours into both and in my opinion Rune Factory is the better game. The combat is way better and has easier to unlock skill trees, it's less repetitive, solid voice acting (Fantasy Life pretty much has none), the town management and village building is well done and much better than the building/village mode that's in Fantasy Life.
Great device, feels great in handheld mode and I've had a blast with MKW and Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma so far. My only complaint is that my joy con's somehow do not charge properly in docked mode, every time I play docked mode and i check the battery the joy con's always show around 60% and that's with the console being docked non stop for over a week.
So far its The Hundred Line Last Defence Academy, there's just so much to do with the branching routes, interesting story and plot twists just kept me invested the whole time. Fantasy Life is second and whilst I enjoyed my time with Fantasy Life I just found it too grindy towards the end, also played Xenoblade Chronicles X but gave up part way in, for some reason I just couldn't get into it like I did with the rest of the series.
@Anti-Matter No need to worry, PS5 has sold 7 million in Japan so far and will not be missing out on any games going forward on consoles, so there's no need for you to concern yourself over the weekly sales, you are still going to continue to get the games you usually play.
@SuperBro64 Mario Kart World is the evolution the series needed, especially for me to get interested in Mario Kart again. I hope there's plenty of updates/DLC to come.
@tourjeff They have Pokémon Legends Z-A, new Hyrule Warriors and a new Professor Layton listed for 2025 also. I also think Splatoon Raiders will launch this year but other than that I don't think we will see anything else this year. I hope I'm wrong and a direct is around the corner that reveals something else for 2025.
@Keman The Switch 2 sales won't be affected by lack of third party support, last gen outside of a few indies most third party games that did release on the Switch still sold better on Playstation. The main reason 90% of Switch owners buy a Switch are for its exclusives and parents who want their TV to themselves whilst their kids play Mario/Fortnite/Minecraft in handheld mode.
I'm mainly a docked player so I'm not too bothered by this but still for the price we paid we deserve better, but instead it's a downgrade from the previous gen. This pretty much means the OLED version is inevitable now.
Why is it 10 dollars more for the Switch 2 version? The PS4, Switch and PS5 version are all the same price so what does the Switch 2 version add to justify charging more?

@Ulysses You may be right, or maybe Splatoon 4 as surely that can't be too far away now.

Probably the worst direct we've had so far, I'm happy with Monster Hunter Stories 3 and Hyrule Warriors but nothing else interested me.

Somehow I'm not surprised by this score, as soon as I saw the gameplay trailer I knew this would flop. That delay should have been permanent.
Re: Poll: So, Have You Tried Out Pokémon Friends On Switch Or Mobile Yet?
I've done the daily puzzles every day since it came out and it's just too simple and for the price of the add ons (£34.99) it's just not worth it.
Take away the images of the Pokémon and this would be a £4.99 game on the eshop.

@kmtrain83 Yeah it's definitely a great game, but it's also getting quite hard now (on chapter 12). Looking forward to starting VC4 and Revolution.
