Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 15th)

The_Pixel_King

All these weeks later, and after 190 hours of gameplay, I’m still knee deep in Tears of the Kingdom. Yes, I’m dragging it out, but I just don’t want it to end. So, more Zelda for me today, that’s for sure.

As for tomorrow, me and my family will be spending the afternoon and evening with my brother and his family. It’s my 50th birthday this weekend, so we’ll be getting together for a very low-key celebration. I’ll be taking my copy of Street Fighter 6 and my DualSense controller so we can have a few in-person fights on his PS5 and I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully it’ll be like Street Fighter II on the SNES back in the nineties. With me reaching the big FIVE-O it’s high time for a(nother) mini midlife crisis and relive some of my youth.

Also, with both our families all together in the same place at the same time, I’m sure we’ll squeeze in some four-player split-screen chaos with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, too. Gotta check out Wave 5 as it’s meant to be played, right?

While we’re there, I’m lending my brother my copy of God of War Ragnarok and borrowing Hogwarts Legacy. My youngest daughter is really looking forward to us playing it together over the summer break… if she can drag me away from playing Zelda for more than five minutes, that is!

Whatever you’re doing this weekend, have a great one my friends!

Re: Poll: Super Mario All-Stars Is 30 Years Old - Do You Prefer The NES Or SNES Versions Of The Classics?

The_Pixel_King

My wonderful wife isn’t a gamer by any means, but she did happen to play the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES back in the late 80’s. The most recent time she played it was shortly after we got married in 1995 and she still knows the game like the back of her hand.

Now funnily enough, earlier this very week, she asked me if SMB was playable on Switch. When I replied in the affirmative, she asked me to fire it up. But when I booted up the All-Stars version on the SNES NSO app, she asked why it looked so bad. Funny how our memories trick us like that. Then I showed her the original on the NES app and I think she began to appreciate the upgraded visuals of the 16bit version.

We proceeded to play it over the next few evenings, finishing it last night, and it’s safe to say that we both had an absolute blast playing together, taking turns each level. That’s the first time we’ve played any game together since 1995. I really do hope I don’t have to wait another 28 years until the next time!

Re: Random: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Sunset Wilds Is Missing One Key Thing

The_Pixel_King

That’s a real shame, but I hold out hope that Nintendo will patch it in the coming weeks or, at the latest, when Wave 6 eventually drops.

[EDIT] I play MK8D pretty much every weekend with my daughters (who are 27 and 19). And much like with Wave 4, they’ve sworn me not to try the new tracks until they come home on Sunday so we can all race on them together. The wait is kinda excruciating, but this weekend will be extra special as we’ll also be (very low key) celebrating my fiftieth birthday. Yep, the big FIVE-O has crept up unawares on me. I have a serious illness and in 2008 the doctors told me I’d never make it to fifty. Well, in just four short days, that’s exactly how old I’ll be. Woohoo for life!

For everyone else out there who are playing the new tracks, have a blast my friends! We may by crying out for MK9, but unlike me, 8 Deluxe never gets old.

Just like the past eight weekends, lots more Tears of the Kingdom for me. I’m 82 shrines and two temples down so far, and loving every last second. This is a genuine once in a generation experience, so I’m still taking my sweet time with what, so far, has become my favourite game of all time.

Also, after really enjoying the demo and loving the DS original, I’ve been itching to start Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, but I just can’t pull myself away from Zelda. Soon though, Sissel. I’ll see you real soon.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Oh it’s easily Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective for me. It’s an incredible game with some of my favourite visuals and animation in all of gaming. I’m so happy to have the chance to relive this cult favourite thriller all over again on Switch.

Lots more Tears of the Kingdom for me. I’m 120 hours in and still nowhere near finishing it. Nor am I even close to feeling burned out.

It took me SIX YEARS to put 125 hours into Breath of the Wild, but I’ve done almost that in just over a month with Tears. With the caveat that I’m still yet to actually beat the game, I can say with certainty that it’s my new favourite game of all time.

All these weeks later, I’m still playing Tears of the Kingdom and literally nothing else. No game has ever gripped me like this, and 95 hours later, I’m still enjoying it like the day it came out. Maybe even more. I’m someone who always has at least two or three games on the boil at any given time, so this alone, indicates what a truly special game this is. Will it end up being my favourite game ever? Almost definitely!

I’ve downloaded some demo’s to play, such as Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (Switch) which I adored back on the DS, Final Fantasy XVI, Street Fighter 6 and Lies of P (all PS5), but I just can’t tear(!) myself away from Zelda.

@Ooyah Good luck with any withdrawal symptoms, buddy. I’ve been there and I know what you’re probably going through. If it helps to talk, I’m here.

Just lots more Tears of the Kingdom for me. I literally haven’t played anything else since it released last month.

I even bought a pack of Zelda Amiibo cards from Amazon for something like £12.99, and they arrived this morning. To my complete surprise, every single one of them worked. Super happy I bought them!

Re: Dead Cells Tops 10 Million Sales As Evil Empire Teases New Projects

The_Pixel_King

I’ve bought Dead Cells and every DLC on both Switch and PS4, and I absolutely adore the game. It’s hands down my favourite indie ever made, and I’m excitedly looking forward to seeing what Motion Twin and Evil Empire do with the game in the next year or two.

If you haven’t yet played it, I urge you to give this game a go! It’s got hundred’s of hours of content and the Return to Castlevania DLC is just sublime.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 27th)

The_Pixel_King

@Dom_31 Oh boy, you’re in for a treat with Death’s Door. I put 47 hours into that game on PS5, playing through it twice to pop the platinum trophy. In fact, it’s so good, I even picked it up again on Switch when that version released and beat it once again.

@JimNorman Over on Nintendo Life, the Zelda content has been coming thick and fast.

Over on Nintendo Life? Unless I’ve gone completely mad, this is Nintendo Life! Isn’t it? 😂

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 27th)

The_Pixel_King

As I suspect will be the case with most Switch owners, I’m playing nothing but Tears of the Kingdom. I literally haven’t touched any other game (including anything on PS5 and Series X) since it dropped two weeks ago.

That’s extremely rare for me, as I usually have at least a couple games on the boil at any given time, but Zelda is literally all I want to play. That there is an indication of just how truly exceptional this game is.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 20th)

The_Pixel_King

I’m 25hrs into Tears of the Kingdom and am literally blown away by its scope, creativity and beauty. I’ve spent at least 3-4hrs in the Depths, which is my favourite part of the game so far, and I’ve not even reached my first temple yet. I can’t remember the last time a game grabbed me like TOTK has. Genuinely. BOTW included.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 6th)

The_Pixel_King

I started a second playthrough of Kirby and the Forgotten Land this week, so I’ll be continuing that this weekend. I played the entirety of the game in handheld mode while on holiday in Mauritius last year, so this time I’m playing on my 65in living room TV and enjoying it even more!

Having preordered it on the eShop last month, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom pre-installed onto my Switch yesterday and the Home Screen icon is taunting me. With my 50th birthday looming fast, I wouldn’t normally want time to fly by any faster than it already is, but damn, I wish next Friday would just hurry up and be here already.

Elsewhere, I’m also playing Resident Evil 4 on PS5 and falling deeper and deeper in love with the game. Capcom’s wonderful remake is comfortably my Game of the Year so far, but I’m hopeful that honour will be passed onto TOTK from next week onwards. Fingers crossed and all that.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer Gets Creative With Vehicle Building, Fused Weapons

The_Pixel_King

I’d say it looks a fair bit prettier than BOTW, but I’m still yet to see anything to make me want to go out and buy Tears of the Kingdom day one. I mean, will we get dungeons this time? Or how about a proper story? Will the performance still tank like it did in certain areas in BOTW or will that be a non-issue this time around? These are some of the questions that still need answering for me.

As it stands, I’m just not seeing anything that’s truly grabbing me. Aside from Triforce Heroes on 3DS, this is the first time that I’m not anything but hyped through the roof for an upcoming Zelda game. I wish I was as excited for Tears of the Kingdom as most fans of the series are, but sadly, I’m just not.

Having bought it at launch and proceeded to neglect it ever since, I’ve finally gotten into Super Mario 3D All-Stars this past week, and I’m having an absolute blast with Super Mario Galaxy in particular.

Having recently finished yet another play through of Super Mario Odyssey, once I’m done with Galaxy, I’ll be excitedly moving onto Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, both of which I’ll be playing for the very first time. On a hardcore Mario kick at the minute!
