After this week, we think it's fair to say that showcase season is well and truly upon us.

Coming off the back of Summer Game Fest, a collection of our brilliant writers came together to give their hands-on impressions of a boatload of games coming to Switch including the excellent Metroidvania Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, spooky sequel OXENFREE II: Lost Signals and the much-anticipated Sonic Superstars — which we reckon is "exactly what Sonic 4 should have been".

This was also the week where we learned that the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy is headed for Switch, and we got to dive into huge eShop Summer sales for both Europe and North America.

On the review side of things, this week has been slightly quieter, but that didn't stop us from having a great time rolling around in We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie.

Now, a few of us have come together to share our gaming plans for the weekend. Have a read through what we're up to and then take to the comments to get involved too.

So aside from playing something for review, I really don't have a whole lot going on this weekend in terms of gaming. I decided to replay Oxenfree after going hands-on with the sequel, so I'm looking forward to getting stuck into that at some point.

Over on the PlayStation 5, I finally managed to play through the demos for Final Fantasy XVI and Lies of P. I enjoyed the former so much, I may actually go back to it for another round before the full game launches.

In a break from playing a certain huge open-world game, I think I’m going to spend most of my weekend checking out some demos that dropped over the past few weeks.

Venba, Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland (both on Steam), and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective are all on my list to download – the latter I’ve never played and it’s a game I know I’ll adore. I’ve already tackled the Final Fantasy XVI demo on PS5, but maybe I’ll play it again. Enjoy your weekends, everyone!

This week, I have played no Tears of the Kingdom (I know, what a concept)! It turns out that there are actually some other games out there and they are really rather good...

I have finally come back to carrying on with Hollow Knight and it is so darn tootin' fun — despite the fact that I am currently having my confidence repeatedly shattered by one particularly frustrating boss. I would really love to polish that battle off this weekend so I can finally get back to some spooky exploring.

I am also in the process of giving Sonic Mania another crack. It never really glued with me when I first played it, but, inspired by the Superstars announcement, I have come back to it and I'm now having a great time — that handling is just sooooo sweet.

Now that I have completed The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom my gaming life is hollow and empty. I have thus returned to my previous Nintendo 64 exploratory duties and the latest Bitmap Books venture means the PC Engine Mini is once again assembled in front of the TV set. What an utterly great little system! Hopefully, next month's big Nintendo release (Pikmin 4 in case that’s not on your radar) will help me regain my gaming mojo.

Game of the Week is Grimace’s Birthday on Game Boy Color. Don’t make that face till you try it.

Thank you for reading! You can fill out the following poll to let us know what game you will be maining this weekend and then head to the comments to share any other titles that you hope to take on.
