While my daughter is getting hopelessly addicted to Animal Crossing on my Switch this weekend, I’m playing Fantasian and World of Demon’s on Apple Arcade! Can’t complain 😊
I was hoping to buy day one, but have had some unexpected expenditure this month. However, I will be picking Rise up at some point. It’ll be my first MH game, but I loved the demo.
Really looking forward to this one. Do we know the price of the standard eShop edition yet? If only they’d also remaster IV Apocalypse, too. Super excited for the eagerly awaited SMT V the most though!
I do love a good twin-stick shooter, but I’m not 100% sold on this one yet. I may just stick with Nuclear Throne and Nex Machina (PS4). Speaking of which, I really do wish that Housemarque could bring some of their older titles to Switch... such as my favourite ever twin-stick, Super Stardust Delta (Vita), which would be amazing on the bigger screen!
@OorWullie I’m so jelly! How much is ESP Ra.De. on the Japanese eShop? And do we know if there’s any chance of it ever releasing on our virtual shores? If not, I may just crack and finally get myself some yen credit from Play Asia. Though I do really want that Aleste Collection, too!
[EDIT] I actually just checked. Am I right in saying it’s 4,500 yen? Apparently that works out at around £30 GBP, which is very tempting. I guess my next stop is to find out which denominations Play Asia does for the Japanese eShop.
I’m wrapping up my second game file on Link’s Awakening and I’m having a blast. The entirety of my first playthrough, at the time of its release, was in handheld mode, but this time around I’m playing on a 65” TV. And boy, what a difference! The visuals are so much more vibrant and beautiful. In fact, you know what? I think I prefer Link’s second Switch outing to even the wonderful Breath of the Wild. Does that make me a bad person?
A little blurrier or not, you just gotta love the folks at Panic Button. They really love the Switch and you have to admire their dedication to the platform. I know I do.
@Debo626 I really don’t think that the implementation of folders would have a detrimental effect on Nintendo’s ability to improve system performance. Besides, performance is on a game by game basis and not related to the power of the current system itself. Unless via individual game updates, we won’t see improved frame rates and/or increased resolution until the oft-rumoured hardware revision arrives.
And just because you wouldn’t use folders, doesn’t mean many of the 80+ million worldwide Switch owners wouldn’t. Some of us have literally hundreds of games installed and could really do with a means of sorting them in some coherent fashion other than alphabetically or in order of most playtime. Three simple folders would make all the difference; first-party, third-party and indie.
It really isn’t asking much, and besides the brand new systems from Sony and Microsoft, just about every other console has them, so why not the most popular of them all?
Please, please Nintendo, will you just give us folders already?!! I mean, its been four years now and it isn’t like the Wii U and 3DS didn’t have them. Surely it can’t be that difficult, right?
@Bobb Absolutely! Isn’t it about time we got some Vanillaware, erm... ware on Switch? I’d buy full-priced ports of Muramasa Rebirth, Dragon’s Crown Pro and Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir in a heartbeat.
I’ve even been thinking about picking up a PS Vita so I can play those three and Persona 4 Golden again. In fact, I’d prefer a Switch port of P4G over P5R. It’s the game that got me into JRPG’s in the first place.
Is it even worth asking for Persona 4 Golden or Persona 5 Royal at this point?
Other than that, or more so in fact, Odin Sphere: Liefthrasir, Muramasa Rebirth and Dragon’s Crown Pro, please?!!! We need Vanillaware on Switch. No, we deserve their games!
I started a new game file in Link’s Awakening last weekend and I’m currently negotiating the walrus in search of the Angler key. Such a weird, wonderful and utterly gorgeous game. Having so much fun. I’ve also just rolled the credits in 3D World’s main campaign. Other than that, the odd run in Dead Cells. Though I may change things up and switch to Hades for a run or two this weekend. I’ll see how the mood takes me. Oh, and with my daughters home this weekend, we’ll more than likely fire up MK8D, though I’m going to try and convert them to Smash Ultimate instead. Wish me luck!
@mr_somewhere "It takes time but it's very rewarding, also helps a lot if you happen to have friends in or around the same skill level as you to play with/against".
My eldest daughter comes round every weekend and, along with my youngest, the three of us usually play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for hours. After the fun I had with Smash today though, I’m gonna get them to play that instead this weekend. I couldn’t get them into ARMS when I tried last year, but I reckon they’ll have a blast with Smash.
@JimmyFleck @Merry_Blind @mr_somewhere Thank you so much for the advice, guys! I really appreciate the help. I’ve always wanted to get into Smash ever since the Wii U and 3DS games, which I bought, but never played more than about an hour of each. However, I refuse to let that happen this time around. Ultimate is such a gorgeous game, and even though I sucked, I had a ton of fun. But I imagine it’d be way more fun if, you know, I actually knew what I was doing! 😂
Thanks again for taking the time to reply. It genuinely means a lot.
I’ve had Smash Ultimate on my Switch since day one, but only really played it properly today for an hour or two. It’s my first Smash game (I had the Wii U and 3DS games, but never got around to them) and I’ll happily admit it.. I was pretty useless. With this in mind, is there anywhere I can find a beginners guide? I’d love to get good, because the game is absolutely gorgeous. Please my fellow NL readers, HELP ME!
I loved Afterbirth and was lucky enough to be randomly given an eShop download code for the game on the day of it’s release. However, after around 80+ hours of dungeon crawling enjoyment, I’ve fallen off this one since the release of Dead Cells and, more recently, the fabulous Hades. After reading this article though, I may just dive back in for a run or two.
This is right up my street! Looking forward to that western release from ININ.
Speaking of Western releases, will we ever see ESP Ra.De. or the Aleste Collection on western eShops? Or should I take the plunge and finally set up a JP eShop account or even buy the horribly expensive JP physicals? My entire Switch collection is digital, so that’s my preference.
Not a Pokemon guy, but the 2022 title sounds very interesting to me. Looking forward to learning more about it in the future. Especially the real-time combat!
Out of order that it’s actually more expensive on the UK eShop than in North America. In 99% of instances, if a game is $39.99 on the NA eShop, its £34.99 over here. So it’s basically a tenner more than it should be. Still want it though! 😂
[EDIT]: Just read all the previous comments about the price issue. Glad it’s not just me that’s unhappy about it. So often, I see people actually defending steep pricing in the comments on this site.
@Slowdive Though I focus on the review content more than the score at the bottom, I too am really hoping it gets the 10 that it deserves. Though I guess it’ll boil down to how good the Bowser’s Fury expansion part is. Either way, really looking forward to the review!
I loved Phantom Hourglass, which I didn’t get round to playing until I got my first 3DS. If it did end up on Switch, in some kind of anniversary collection, so I got the opportunity to play it again, I’d be absolutely stoked. Especially if they remade it in the Wind Waker HD engine with regular controls!
@BeastMode44 Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. 2pm tomorrow or Thursday. Was just wondering if any of the editors picked up my comment and could confirm. I’m getting it regardless of any review, but I’m looking forward to reading it all the same.
As someone who’s dip into the Rise demo was their first Monster Hunter experience, I really enjoyed my time with the game. Though I did find the wire bug pretty fiddly to pull off with any discernible grace. I did, however, really enjoy gobbling up ground on my Palamute. Thank heavens for 3D World coming out this week, as I impatiently await the full release.

I still want to pick Immortals up, but can’t decide wether to get it on Switch or wait until I can eventually get my hands on a PS5...
At this rate however, by the time PS5’s are available, the UK could have left and rejoined the EU twice over and I’ll be buying in euros!
