UK Charts: Super Mario Odyssey Caps Off The Top Ten With Strong Sales

Goodness, Prime is just a juggernaut. I really hope Nintendo capitalizes on its success with more Prime remasters

Not sure what’s more surprising, Odyssey back in the top ten or Hogwarts Legacy knocked off of the top spot. Either way, it’s great to see more Mario in the charts. Come on Nintendo, give us Super Mario Odyssey 2 already!

It's nice seeing Prime up so high, it does really feel like Metroid's returning back to its popularity 20 years ago.

I hope Nintendo had realistic expectations for Bayonetta Origins.

A spin off from an already pretty niche game series that plays very differently to it was always going to struggle big time.

If it hits 200 hundred thousand sales life time that would be a good showing.

Good to see Metroid Prime Remastered continue to do really well. Give me all the first party Gamecube games in HD remastered versions akin to Prime (Wave Race, Eternal Darkness, F Zero etc) at 35 quid a pop and I'd snap them all up.

@The_Pixel_King the majority of ps5 and xbox sales are digital while the majority of switch sales are physical.. digital sales are not included in these lists.

@Olliemar28 it doesnt matter that Odyssey was a game bundle, it was a download so wouldnt be counted in this chart.

Very impressive for both Metroid Prime Remastered, and Super Mario Odyssey. Metroid Prime Remastered is a game that I would have expected to drop off the sales charts by now, but the quality of the title shows and I am glad more people are getting to experience it either for the first time (like me), or are experiencing the game again with improved visuals. And I honestly forgot how good Super Mario Odyssey was until I started letting my kids play it and watched them have a go at it. Nintendo really nailed Mario for the modern audiences with that one.

Is it safe to say, the Switch, has made Metroid, mainstream?

Just shows that the appetite for Nintendo Switch, despite slowing is still there. All Nintendo need to do is a Switch 2 with beefed up power and backward compatibility. They literally will not fail if they do that.
If they try to be too off the wall they will have another Wii U on their hands.

Super Mario Odyssey was like for me Mario 64. Like that level. Because it is new game.

I finally made it to the last challenge in Odyssey (you'll know the one if you've played it), and I think it might just make me weep actual tears of frustration. It's Wario's Castle from Super Mario Land 2 all over again. Still an amazing game though, goodness knows how they'll follow it up.

Seems like Metroid Prime retail sales are only limited by supply at the moment.

@Rooty Nintendo EPD group 8 are quite masterful at making Mario games magical and different, I remember thinking after completing Mario Galaxy 2 that I couldn’t see where they could go with Mario from then on

Mario Odyssey seems to be extremely underrated. I would have expected it to stay in the charts long term, just like Mario Kart, GTA 5, Animal Crossing etc.

And generally when a Mario Odyssey article appears here on NL, there's loads of comments from people saying they didn't like it.

It really surprises me. I absolutely love the game, it's relentlessly fun from start to finish, and pretty much the spiritual successor / true sequel to Mario 64.

Nintendo is still dominating the UK charts even 6+ years into the Switch's life cycle. Unreal.

I bought SMO at Best Buy last week for $37 US. Still sealed (physical). Going to play SM64 first (and maybe also Sunshine as well as Galaxy If I decide to spend a tiny fortune on 3D All-Stars).

@Raffles I love Odyssey as well. I think the issue some people have with it is that it's ultimately a "fetch quest." Not saying other Mario games are not, as all Mario games have some element of "find the stars/coins/etc.", but it's really emphasized in this game. That's not enough to make me dislike the game, but I could see why others would find it annoying. The thing I find strange is how there has been absolutely no DLC or expansion packs with this game.

@123akis As a fellow Wii U owner, I remember the long droughts of no new games being released. The Switch I swear there are at least two new games released every week that I want to buy, haha.

@SBandy1 I love the Bayonetta series and have absolutely zero interest in this new game. I will likely never pick it up.

Cereza is really good. Hopefully more people will give it a chance when it goes on sale.

Not really a big Bayonetta fan, but I found the presentation and story telling in Cereza intriguing that drew me in. The gameplay is interesting / different and I found it fun and engaging. I also like puzzles and I found them designed very well.

@JohnnyMind then I’m pretty sure you’ll like it! I’ve played some of the main series and for me, it didn’t pull me in enough to make time for it, but I will play them someday for sure. Cereza was the exact opposite effect.
